Look, I've been with a GP for 25 years who doesn't like over the counter drugs and if I can get rid of the headache through other methods I really don't see why I should take chemicals. Besides, NHS advice changes all the time, and advice also varies from the country to country - in Germany advise is you shouldn't take Paracetamol but Ibuprofen is fine until the 3rd Trimester, just as an example of the madness.

I'd rather avoid the whole issue - it doesn't mean I expect anyone else to go with that!

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 11:17

In a completely non related post - my friend is in a lesbian relationship & they are looking at getting pregnant via artificial insemination. They get to pick important physical characteristics etc - apparently the idea is to match as closely to the non genetic parent as possible. I was like - why would you do that?! My husbands 5.10 with grey eyes - I'd be pushing for 6 ft 2 with blue or brown eyes & in some incredible profession - I realise I'm probably missing the point slightly :)

BEEwitched · 04/01/2014 11:18

Awww, that's a bit harsh. Wink

Also, DH is 6' 2'', I'm not looking forward to pushing his offspring out...

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 11:33

Haha don't worry Bee my Uncle is 6 ft 6 and his wife 5 ft 2 (!!) his baby is more likely to be longer but not have a bigger head which is all that matters to you :)

BEEwitched · 04/01/2014 11:38

No, but my side of the family will take care of that bit...

jaykay987 · 04/01/2014 11:39

Ahhhh...that's good to know bumble (given there is a 16inch height difference between me and DH!!

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 12:06

Yeah it's a common worry. There are differences between races but that's a whole different ball game & still not worth worrying about. A 7lb baby born at 37 weeks is likely to have a smaller head than a 7lb at 42. Newborn humans are rubbish developmentally compared to other species but we can't physically carry them any longer because of those damn big heads :)

Redcliff · 04/01/2014 12:08

I am also overweight ( just into the obese range) so have tried to be as healthy as possible although had a bad couple of weeks when FIL was here as he only has limited food he eats none of which are any good for you so we just fell in with him which was a big mistake. Getting back to normal now but bump is big - I look about 6 months from certain angles !

Thanks for the tip about serapina clothes - am very tempted by their over the bump jeans. For work stretchy dresses have been great and not to mumsey. Just got my gap sale delivery - all the stuff looks really nice!

superlambanana · 04/01/2014 12:45

My bump doesn't seem to have grown in the past week or two... Is this normal?!

LadyGoneGaga · 04/01/2014 14:37

Super, you could just be a bit less bloated. Or baby is in a different position. Don't worry. They won't start measuring your bump for quite a few more weeks yet and that is SO inaccurate in any case.

SleepyNess · 04/01/2014 15:02

Hi all, in bed with a massive migraine, lucky me.... But at least there's a dinner party next door and I have a very good excuse to avoid all the smoke, etc!

My bump is definitely out there.. It's a little bit scary to see my skin so stretched out, I can phisically feel it stretching and it doesn't feel very nice and I'm not even half way! More importantly, where does all this excess skin go after..?

BEEwitched · 04/01/2014 15:29

Not that I'm generally pleased to be overweight but that's where the fact that I've gone down and up and down a couple of stones over the last few years comes in handy, whereas 'underneath' feels slightly uncomfy due to my muscles being stretched, my skin isn't too bad yet, though I do need to get better about massage/cream.

I hope the migraine gets better soon and you can enjoy your leisurely evening in bed! We have tickets to see an ice-hockey game and I'm regretting it.

SarahSPT · 04/01/2014 15:54

MrsCharlieD - I turned 18 weeks yesterday so we must be due day next to each other? I'm on the 6th Smile

Been getting lots of fluttering's too - baby's been going mental in there for the last week!

Let me know any good maternity places you find - got several tattoos myself so always good to find new styles for clothes.

I've not started maternity shopping yet apart from a belly belt so I can still wear my own clothes for now. if anyone knows any good websites for nice funky clothes, please feel free to share....

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 16:26

I am definitely in the 'is that fat or is she pregnant?' stage. Yuk!

SarahSPT · 04/01/2014 16:37

Me too - not that obvious in the morning but I get more bloated towards the end of day. People must be really confused when they see me.

wispaxmas · 04/01/2014 17:21

Bumble, I'm in the same phase! I swear I just look fat Hmm

chestnutmare · 04/01/2014 17:21

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow, and have been feeling my first flutterings this week! Wasn't sure what it was to begin with, with this being my first! It's quite exciting isn't it! Grin

wispaxmas · 04/01/2014 17:23

Oh, and I'm 18+4, really been paying attention and trying to recognise fluttering or bubbling feelings, but absolutely nothing. Even though I know I shouldn't worry I think I'm starting to, but just hoping I have an anterior placenta or something... Anyone else that far or farther felt nothing yet?

ohcluttergotme · 04/01/2014 17:27

I'm the same as some in that I don't look noticeably pregnant but look like I could of just put on some weight. I feel as the day goes on I look more pregnant though but must be bloated.
Will be 17 weeks on Tuesday and think I've felt a couple of flutterings Smile

chestnutmare · 04/01/2014 17:31

wispaxmas I don't think there'll be anything to worry about, I certainly didn't expect to feel anything for a few more weeks yet. I have friends who didn't feel anything until 20+ weeks and others who started to feel things after 16 weeks (all first babies). It'll all be fine! Smile

Jolay100 · 04/01/2014 18:19

I'm 18 +5 but haven't felt any convincing movements yet either. Every now and then I wonder if there is something, but I've been thinking that for 3 weeks and go for days with absolutely nothing so I think the early stuff was probably just wind ( I def have a lot of that !!!).

Liquidambar · 04/01/2014 18:21

wispa I have an anterior placenta and I haven't felt anything yet. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow. I was hopping to feel something as this is my second. I think the average is 20 around 20 weeks. Don't worry.

MrsCharlieD · 04/01/2014 18:58

Hi Sarah i bought a couple of dresses from simply be that I've added my own twist too with footwear and accessories. A friend has given me an extender panel so i can wear my old jeans which i think will be a god send as i like skinny jeans but as soon as you go plus size they're massive in the ankle which i hate. I've been trying on my old clothes and i think I'll get away with wearing stuff for a while. lucky we are having summer babies so when Im huge i can just wear dresses and leggings. what tattoos for you have? X x

MrsCharlieD · 04/01/2014 19:00

Btw Sarah Im due 7th June x

MinaLeeds · 04/01/2014 19:22

I'm 17+3 now and started feeling movements at 16+3 but while they were very noticeable in the first couple of days, I need to be paying attention to feel them now. Not quite sure why!

As far as ML goes, I have to go off at 35+5 cos of issues with my contract length, and will also have about 2 weeks of leave left by then (unless I need them when/if we move house) so all being well...I'll be stopping work at 33+1. And you know what? I can't wait! Just three more months of working. That's just 12 weeks! Woop Woop!

My bump has nearly tripled in size in the last week. Suddenly it is very very noticeable. The rest of me has (thankfully!) shrunk and I've had to go down from a size 14 pair of mat jeans to size 12. In weight terms though, I haven't gained anything. So my flab is being replaced with baby. I have been eating so much more healthily than I have in a long while, with my sugar cravings being filled by fruit rather than cake and ice cream so it's not surprising that the weight hasn't gone up yet. What's irritating now though is that I am finding it harder and harder to cope with food. I feel bloated and horrible all the time. Even if I only eat a small amount of food, it leaves me feeling unbelievably uncomfortable. The only thing that helps is going for a 10minute(ish) walk after every meal, after which I can go sit down without feeling like I want to throw up. That's easy while I'm at my mum's in Kenya with her huge garden and warm climate, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I get back to the UK!
