Riblet Have you considered a side-sleeper or even maternity pillow? I find that I can sleep half on my side, half on my front with it propping and cushioning my bump a bit, which seems to be the most comfy option (though my arms still fall asleep....)

summerbaby2014 · 13/01/2014 15:51

I agree with Bee. A maternity pillow really helps. Mine is like a big sausage and you out it between your knees, it'll support the bump later on too.
It's great! Really comfy and relieves the hips too

Riblet · 13/01/2014 15:51

Thanks Bee - I do put a pillow under bump as it needs a bit of support, but when I tried putting a pillow under my side, which I imagine a maternity pillow must be like, it still hurt. Maybe I should try a proper maternity one though? I wonder if part of it could be the sproglets lying on my nerves or something, plus already have dodgy lower back- had the same thing last week for a couple of nights then was ok until last night. Thanks for the tip though, I will try the half side half front, while I still can!

Riblet · 13/01/2014 15:52

Thanks Summerbaby, that may well be the way to go.

MarlenaGru · 13/01/2014 16:14

You definitely need something between your knees. I had a maternity pillow last time and it was great. This time it has been in the loft for 6 years so I am not sure it is salvageable!

SleepyNess · 13/01/2014 16:22

My back has been aching too! I look forward to starting pregnancy yoga and the swimming pool as I always had a bad back and used to manage discomfort with exercise.

Mitchell2 · 13/01/2014 16:51

Sad my bump isn't big enough yet (18 weeks) or there is still enough padding aka fat for me to be able to go to sleep on my stomach.

jaykay987 · 13/01/2014 17:33

ahh riblet I'm having that problem. I used to sleep on my front - thats now impossible.
On my back I could get comfy the last few weekd with a v pillow raising ny back and shoulders and supporting my neck. But now this hurts my lower back.

On my side - a maternity pillow is a must and was working before with it supporting my bump and between my knees. But now - the hip I am laying on burns. It really hurts. So I can't find any position comfortable.

Back is still best - as hurts my back the least - but don't think this will work much longer as I know as you get bigger you're supposed to be on your side. I imagine my hip pain will only get worse though? Let me know if you find a comfortable position.

Mitchell I am beyond jealous front still works for you. I'm only 16weeks and it's been uncomfortable at least a week or two now Sad

GillyBillyWilly · 13/01/2014 18:14

I'm sleeping somewhere between my side and my front and it's ok for now. I'll be sad when I can't sleep like this anymore because I hate sleeping in any other position!

Redcliff · 13/01/2014 18:35

I couldn't get comfortable last night either - I have a massive pregnancy pillow from last time but wasn't doing the trick so tried a cushion which sort of worked. But this morning found a small wedge foam cushion from last time so hopefully I will sleep better tonight.

I thought work was going to be winding down over the next few months only to find out we have a big project with a tight deadline! Have decided to bury my head in the sand for now and wait for the start (which might be a few weeks from now) and then see what happens.

SleepyNess · 13/01/2014 18:45

Gilly, that's exactly how I sleep! And I usually feel a lot of poking in this position, perhaps because part of my uterus becomes squashed and baby moves out? :)

Liquidambar · 13/01/2014 21:57

My sleep is still rubbish. I tend to sleep on my back or my side. I like my pregnancy pillow but haven't got used to it yet.

I had my second yoga class this evening. Yoga is not really my type but I like feeling stretched. Hopefully will sleep better tonight.

Good luck for tomorrow's scans. Keep us posted :)

MrsCharlieD · 13/01/2014 22:23

Thanks vickyvix!

Redcliff · 13/01/2014 22:36

In bed with wedge pillow - it is lovely!

Vickyvix · 13/01/2014 22:42

Sleep wise I'm with gilly and sleepy kind of half side half front which is working ok for now. It's impossible to lay on my front, boobs still hurt way to much and I worry about sleeping on my back. If my half front, half side combo stops working I'll be stuck. I Have a bit of painful hips every now and then bit otherwise it seems ok.

Btw I totally forgot to say thanks for the flu jab advice a couple of days ago, sorry, and thank you. All very useful. I completely forgot to ask MW about it today but think I'll just book it in the gp.

While I am here, has anyone tried natal hypnotherapy?? I had a long chat with the MW today about it and after reading up DH and I are definitely tempted to book the hospitals 2 day course, just wondered if anyone has ever done it?

Biffle · 14/01/2014 07:03

Just had the best nights sleep I have had since falling pg. Still feel like I have been run over tho! I have a massive sausage shaped bean bag which I drag around the bed. DP is away during the week and I somehow manage to use the entire bed!

superlambanana · 14/01/2014 07:59

I do the half side half front thing too. We may be a little pushed for space when my bump grows though!

Feeling sorry for myself - back in bed with morning sickness. Made lunch but then started heaving (nice) so having a lie down before I attempt breakfast. Sigh...

MarlenaGru · 14/01/2014 08:24

vicky a friend did a hypnotherapy course and recommended it. I am quite tempted.

I also slept really well last night! Only woke at about6 for a nice change. Decided to get to work early and brave the earlier train and of course it was cancelled so now on a packed slow train. So will be later than normal. Angry

chestnutmare · 14/01/2014 08:24

Hey ladies.

So yesterday I booked a private gender scan for the 31st January (same day as my 20 week NHS scan)! They don't tell people the sex of their babies where I live, which was fine for me initially as I thought I wanted a surprise. DH on the other hand was keen to find out!

Recently however I've been more and more curious about what we're having! I was finally persuaded when it turned out DH can't make it to the NHS scan due to an essential work course he needs to attend that week, so I've went ahead and booked the private scan. Am pretty excited now to find out what we're having!

jaykay I have a rocking chair already which I love, can't wait to start using it more once the baby arrives, it just sits in one of our spare bedrooms doing nothing most of the time just now!

ohcluttergotme · 14/01/2014 08:38

Yay for those having good sleeps and boo to those not.

My little boy got up at 5am this morning, I could cry! I'm off sick this week as had ear & throat infection and feel I am craving a good nights sleep.

Good luck to those with scans today Smile

Vickyvix · 14/01/2014 09:11

Thanks marlena I think we will book it, I'm going to call today to find out when is the best time to do it.

That's exciting chesnut :)

My baby on board badge seems to have stopped working, had to stand for whole 45 min journey today and now my back is hurting, didn't help I had a laptop to carry as well. Humph

GinandStripes · 14/01/2014 09:35

When I go to bed, I lie on my back with my hands on my bump - to see if I can feel anything. Last night I swear I felt a tumble turn followed by a headbutt! Smile

Riblet · 14/01/2014 09:56

Sorry to hear so many are having rubbish sleep too! Definitely looking into the maternity pillow idea now though, and am heading into town at lunchtime so will have a look- think you need to see things like that in the flesh and have a good squeeze etc! Made do with using a V pillow under bump and between my knees last night which was ok for a while but the hip ache came back in the last few hours. Did have some 'interesting' dreams though, one of which was that I gave birth. At 28 weeks. To two kittens. And Claudia Winkleman was my birthing partner. Confused

That's exciting Chestnut, something to look forward to!

Vicky, that's bad- a few people could be forgiven for not noticing the badge but not everyone. I would say ask someone if you could have their seat but then I wouldn't be brave enough to do that.

Hope everyone has a good day, and those feeling poorly/achy feel better!

ohcluttergotme · 14/01/2014 10:13

That sounds an interesting dream riblet Smile were they boy or girl kittens?
I had a very strange dream that involved an ex from 14 years ago who had moved 2 doors down from my parents and was really together and sorted and nice, not the ex I split up from! Not sure what that means?! Shock
