Anyone else having frequent nosebleeds? Hmm

superlambanana · 12/01/2014 22:16

Sleepy I think that's quite common - not nice though so I feel for you!

We've definitely chosen our boy's name but while we had settled on a girl's I'm now wavering as it's really popular - it's a classic popular so I think it'll 'age' well but I'm still not sure.

There's a newly qualified doula near me offering her services free so she can get references - quite tempted. Does anyone know much about them?

MarlenaGru · 12/01/2014 22:30

I amquite tempted by a doula but not sure how you choose one.

I love Jude too. My DDad is a massive Beatles fan so I grew up with it. DH only likes boring names though, especially for boys!

hackneybird · 12/01/2014 22:36

clutter that's such a good point about making sure an older sibling knows to expect a baby and not a toddler! My son has been talking abut sharing his toys etc. which is very sweet, but yes, it's going to be a while before he or she is old enough to play Batman games.

bumble you are being so kind and generous in looking after your neighbour's child. Fingers crossed he'll be good as gold with you - my little boy can be a real handful at bedtime too, but whenever he's with anyone else he goes off about an hour earlier than normal without a peep!

I've started looking for a doula. www.doula.org.uk is a good start for those who are wanting to know more.

rainbowweaver · 13/01/2014 03:57

Still no names this end. Last time we had a good list and DH in the end came up with the perfect name which wasn't on our list after DD was born. We have 6 weeks after birth to register (I think).

sleepyness your nosebleeds could be due to high blood pressure caused by pregnancy so may be worth a check with the midwife?

sareva was you who asked about the sling I used? It was moby wrap when DD was newborn - a stretchy wrap, which is easier to get used to. DH liked babasling. Then didymos woven wrap for me as DS got heavier. Finally the connecta mei tai, which we still occasionally use. The meitai was most convenient when DD was older.

rainbowweaver · 13/01/2014 03:58

Not DS, DD!

ohcluttergotme · 13/01/2014 06:19

Bumble, agree with others that maybe the little boy will be great for you. My little boy is like like this when he has sleepovers, goes to bed well, doesn't get up a million times and sleeps later than he would for us....not fair!

Liquidambar · 13/01/2014 08:21

sleepy I have frequent nosebleeds. I had them in the past so it's not a new symptom, it's just more frequent due to the higher volume of blood. I believe it's commkn in pregnancy and never thought about asking the midwife. But if you are worried perhaps you can give her a call.

Bumblebeesmum · 13/01/2014 08:38

Thanks all - fingers crossed you're right & he won't be too horrendous. I've been unable to sleep since 3 so I'm absolutely shattered. Cursing the headaches :(

Lmf679 · 13/01/2014 10:27

I'm starting pregnancy yoga tonight, very excited! Has anyone else been to similar classes yet?

Vickyvix · 13/01/2014 10:42

Phew only just managed to catch up.

wispa if I were you I would def just go for it with your trip, lots of people fly with young babies and I am sure you (and everyone else) will be fine.

red love the fact your ds wants to be a scientist policeman, and pleased to hear he's agreed to back off regarding names. He sounds a sweetie

Great news mrscharlie congratulations to you :) you must be so excited to find out and I love the name.

We will definitely be finding out the gender at our 20 week scan and can't wait!! Very early on, way back in early November, I had an overwhelming feeling that this baby is a girl. I have no idea why, it just really felt like it and still does so I am really really intrigued to find out. We will be so happy with either.

We have a string of girls names already but no boys names, so hoping that by finding out we can just focus on one name list. We won't pick for definite until we meet the little person, just in case we change our minds though.

Have MW appointment in an hour, a bit nervous for some reason.

jaykay987 · 13/01/2014 11:34

lmf yes I started last week. It was an nct led course.
I was the least pregnant there at 15weeks - next lowest was about 22weeks. But I really enjoyed it.
I wasn't very strenuous - but so relaxing and I felt better - especially my back - after all the stretching. I slept the full night through afterwards which is a first! FX that wasn't a coincidence - as I could do with another full nights sleep after class tomorrow!

So, despite not wanting to buy anything until after my 20week scan- I won a wooden rocking chair on eBay! I really want one for the nursery - don't ask me why! Smile I collected it yesterday. It needs a bit of sanding, but a nice little project for me! A bargain at less than £30 so happy with that.
Dh and I were out shopping at the weekend, and fell in love with these handmade felt animal heads. (Think cartoon versions of an antlers head hanging on the wall in a country retreat!) They are a completely useless, waste of money. We loved them and bought three! oops!
They will look pretty cool in a line on the wall of our newly painted nursery - but given we haven't bought anything practical/useful yet it was a ridiculous purchase! Grin. Hopefully we've got that out of our system now, and from now on will save our money and only buy planned and researched purchases!

best wishes to anyone with a scan today!

ohcluttergotme · 13/01/2014 12:15

Congratulations on the rocking chair Jaykay, I think that sounds a very practical and useful purchase! Smile

Vickyvix · 13/01/2014 12:38

jay a rocking chair sounds lovely, that's given me an idea now.

Just had my appointment with the midwife and heard the little heartbeat, it was so lovely so now I have a big smile on my face, it was a steady 150bpm Grin

GinandStripes · 13/01/2014 13:18

Mitchell You've got me into a little panic, I think I read (pages back) that your Trust won't tell you the gender.

If I remember rightly we are in the same area. Where do you have your scans?

noseymcposey · 13/01/2014 13:47

We'll be finding out the sex too. We did with DS and like someone said upthread I found it really lovely thinking 'my son' about the bump rather than 'baby'. Also, I had a bit of a preference for a girl at the time, and for me personally I think it was a good idea to find out earlier to get used to it. It definitely didn't spoil the rest of my pregnancy and meant I was excited about all things blue by the time baby actually arrived.

I have thought about waiting this time because I honestly will be delighted either way.... but I am just too impatient!

Mitchell2 · 13/01/2014 13:47

Gin At the Royal London - but I could be wrong it was the sonographer said it who was a locum who didn't always work there. What she was saying did make sense though re it being because of cultural considerations in the area but maybe she was applying another hospitals policy onto that one.

Maybe give them a call to confirm, as because I already knew I didn't really follow it up - it maybe that you specifically have to ask or pay extra for it?

Jessiebaba · 13/01/2014 13:49

nosey I think that's the truth of it for me too - I'm just too impatient!! Wink

Mitchell2 · 13/01/2014 13:51

BTW gin are you at the Royal now to give birth potentially? We did a tour of the labor ward last week and it was surprisingly good. Going to check out the birth center on the Isle of Dogs as well but feeling a bit better about being there and not homerton.

Riblet · 13/01/2014 14:08

Hello all, just catching up after the weekend.

Congrats Charlie on you little boy, lovely name. Although I am still tempted by finding out (never realised how much stuff is pink or blue- maybe because so many people find out nowadays), we aren't. We both love the idea of it being a surprise and as my friend who has a 6mo DD pointed out, it means that DH can (probably) tell me, which would be nice. Odds are in favour of one of each for us, which I'd like but even though I'd like a girl in there somewhere I don't mind either way.

Considering we need to think of two boys and two girls names, never mind middle names, our name shortlist is certainly that, short! Probably about 5 boys and 6 girls, plus a few which are middle name only and another few which DH has vetoed but I'm keeping on 'my list' in case I can persuade him! No decisions until they arrive though so am in no hurry to think of anything.

Sleepy - Apparently nosebleeds are pretty common as are bleeding gums, to do with more blood flow to mucous membranes I think. I haven't had nosebleeds as such, but have had blood in tissue when I blow my nose and certainly bleeding gums, moreso in the last couple of weeks.

Chair sounds great Jaykay Smile

MarlenaGru · 13/01/2014 14:24

riblet my friend found out she is having twin boys the other day. She said she was expecting one of each or girls but was very shocked with boys! She already has a daughter though. She was so shocked they were twins she said she needed to plan the genders at least!

BEEwitched · 13/01/2014 14:32

jay The rocking chair sounds great!

Well, we've decided to get the Easy Walker Sky our local pram shop has on sale, it's the last one they have as it's a discontinued model and would normally be really expensive, they're selling it with all the bits for £299. Might still get a smaller stroller or BJCM later, it was a bit hopeful to find one pushchair that would work for roughing it on the beach and travelling on planes/in the city, anyway.

Whatever tummy bug DH had yesterday, I'm feeling it today. Nothing horrid, just very queasy, gippy tummy, slight temperature.... Just glad to have DH home and have a lazy sorting out baby stuff and watching the Food Network.

GinandStripes · 13/01/2014 15:02

Mitchell Yeah we're at the Royal London too. I've been mostly impressed with them so far and the views are stunning! :-)

Riblet · 13/01/2014 15:25

Sorry to hear you're poorly bee, hope you feel better soon.

That's interesting Marlena, and I can see what she means about needing to know something! We've just about got used to the idea of 2 now so are kind of the other way - now we know that we want to have something as a surprise, although I have to say that DH is more into not finding out that me, just because I am nosy! 2 of my schoolfriends (more like just facebook friends now) have twins, one set identical and one non-id but all girls. The couple with non-id girls recently had a third, don't know if hoping for a boy or what but had another girl- my friend (the dad) must feel a bit outnumbered!

Super - didn't you say you were in Liverpool too? Do you mind me asking where the doula is located? Never thought of using one before but is interesting to consider. Thanks Smile

Moan alert- my back and hips are killing me, and didn't sleep well because of it. Used to sleep on my front and end up on my back but obviously front is now out and back is starting to make me feel squashed, so am left with either side which would normally be fine despite a dodgy back but now it makes my lower back and sides ache. Ended up awake for ages last night and in the end propped myself up on a V pillow and eventually managed to get back off like that, no thanks to DH and his snoring. I had a whinge to him about it this morning and she claimed it's because he's getting a cold - er, what's your excuse the rest of the time then eh?! Moan over!
