OK I caved. Here's thread 13!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

:o space. The nurse put some kind of fancy manuka honey dressing on it to stop infection. It stings like a bastard but I smell delicious.

Congrats on maternity leave, tooth!

extracrunchy · 13/12/2013 15:50

Tooth - woop!! Happy maternity leave!

Spacefrog35 · 13/12/2013 15:52

toby awesome - so now not only do we have to greet each other by sniffing we also have to lick your knees Xmas Confused

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 15:54

It's not compulsory, but you can if you want. You might not be able to stop yourself :o

Felix90 · 13/12/2013 15:57

Thanks everyone. I've cheered up a bit as just had an email from our old letting agents saying we will have our deposit from our flat back in the next few days, and also a refund of half a months rent as we paid up for the full month in advance. This means we can spend the deposit money on nursery furniture and then me and OH both have £260 each to keep! I have no idea what to spend it on, it's quite exciting Grin

Extra I have a sweep next week too, on Wednesday. Not sure if it will even work as I'll only be 37 weeks but really hoping something happens as I'd rather go in to labour naturally than be induced the week after. Has anyone ever had one before? I'm really nervous about it as I read it hurts like a motherfucker.

Hooray for maternity leave people! Today would have been my last day too but I've been signed off sick. A bit miffed that I've not heard from anyone at work at all though...

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:03

I've had sweeps before, felix. They're definitely not comfortable or pleasant but they're not unbearable. Much like a smear, it's easier if you relax and go with it rather than tensing up. And it doesn't take long.

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:06

That said, though, I've never had one any earlier than full term (40 weeks).

Felix90 · 13/12/2013 16:08

Thanks Toby. Midwife said she might not even be able to do it anyway as it's early and my cervix may be closed or something. I have read that if you have OC, babies tend to come early anyway so hopefully my body is thinking I'll be ready soon and the sweep can be done!

sarahleanne · 13/12/2013 16:14

Oh god curly I didn't know you had pre-e!! Where have I been! How many weeks are you? I hope everything goes ok. I had the same with DS and praying my high bp doesn't turn into preeclampsia this time around although I've been told there's a higher chance it will.

Good news on the nursery money felix.Sweeps are uncomfortable rather than painful although undid have a painful one in hospital but the doctor was seriously rough and I had thrush too which really did not help.

toby hope your leg heals ok. Mmmm honey.

Just found out DH is being sent away for 3 weeks on the 21st so he will get back on my due date. He is so going to miss this babies birth.

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:18

Have you tried evening primrose oil, frizz? You take it orally but from 37 weeks you can also stick it up your foof, as close to your cervix as possible. It's supposed to help your cervix to efface, which (if it works!) ought to make your sweep easier.

Felix90 · 13/12/2013 16:20

I'm guessing you mean me Grin never heard of using it! Where would I get some from? I'm a bit wary of messing around with stuff like that - is it allowed? (I'm assuming it is otherwise you wouldn't mention it!)

MrsGSR · 13/12/2013 16:21

I thought I'd posted earlier but the laptop battery died, it'll probably randomly post it when I find the charger!

Manuka honey is magical toby, but it is weird putting honey on injuries!

Can't remember anything else, but I hope everyone who's ill/in pain/worried feels better soon and has a good weekend!

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:22

Oh, bloody hell! Sorry, felix Blush

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:25

You can get it from supermarkets. It's just an idea. It certainly won't do any harm but there's plenty of info on Google about it if you want to research it for yourself. Lots if midwives recommend it, it seems :)

Felix90 · 13/12/2013 16:26

Haha it's ok! I will have a look for it tomorrow, it's worth a try.

MrsVDB · 13/12/2013 16:34

curly 2 days how exciting! I know you've answered before but how many weeks are you again?

extra woop!! So we might get 2 babies on Tuesday!!

felix woop for you to! Can you all stop being ready when I'm still at work (and living in a building site)

tooth I'm v jealous! Can't wait until next Friday!!

TobyLerone · 13/12/2013 16:38

It's with all the vitamins etc. I've been taking it for a week or so in the vain hope that it might be the thing I do differently this time which means I don't go overdue!

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 13/12/2013 16:59

I had a sweep last time, and found it far more uncomfortable that a smear, which don't really bother me. I wasn't screaming in agony it anything. But it really wasn't nice. But still, nothing compared to labour so I guess it's just a precursor to the main event! Sorry, that's not too cheery, is it?!

Evening primrose IN foof? As in, a capsule??

TarkaTheOtter · 13/12/2013 17:09

I'm in the car and have been for hours, travelling back to home town for an early Christmas catch up with family. Not sure why I thought 8hrs in the car would be a good idea - so uncomfortable. Dh keeps asking me if I'm in labour because I keep whinging about it. It's pretty constant pain not contractions so I think it's just backache.

I'm seeing a few former work friends on Monday who don't know I'm pregnant as I haven't actually "announced" it this time round so that'll be a fun surprise!

fryingpantoface · 13/12/2013 17:30

I'm going to put epo, the capsule, in my foof tonight. The closer to the cervix the better, as i can touch my cervix that shouldn't be a problem.

I've heard great things about it.

Felix90 · 13/12/2013 18:05

Ha Tarka please let us know their reaction!

How on earth do I know if I've reached my cervix?! I don't think my chipolata fingers are long enough...

Sultanajo · 13/12/2013 18:12

Wow, lots going on!!!

enjoying yay for exchanging!!!

curly ekkk! Fingers crossed for the next few days...

Toby manuka honey is amazeballs! Glad they saw you today...

Arghhh, really thought I was gonna remember more this time....

Had a cake morning with the NCT girls this morning and met the first baby. She is just gorgeous and chilled out and her mum made it look so incredibly easy! Took to breast feeding the second latch and managed to do it so discreetly with all of us there as though she had been doing it for ages! Would love to be so confident and chilled within such a short amount of time!

AnotherStitchInTime · 13/12/2013 18:35

I might be joining the early delivery crew.

Been on labour ward since 6am with bleeding. First dose of second dose of steroids in. They were going to deliver this afternoon, but it all settled down a bit so now a wait and see scenario. They would like me to get to 34 weeks if possible, I am 33 + 3 today.

extracrunchy · 13/12/2013 18:57

Another hope everything's ok.

Re evening primrose - I tried it for a couple of weeks on recommendation of MW but it gave me thrush Blush I am a bit sensitive "down there" though...
