Hello!

So I'm actually due around 27th July but I went two weeks overdue with my first so I'm pretty sure this will be an August baby Smile

Is there anyone else who is newly pregnant and would like to join me?

After more nausea / horrible taste / watery mouth, I had my first rush to the loo moment - although I didn't actually throw up.
Ended up telling the admin lady I was pregnant and was heading home, not the way I wanted to announce it, hopefully she'll keep quiet.

Now home and sipping my new nausea cure, marmite tea.

flymo79 · 10/12/2013 13:47

ha! yeah baggy, apart from the restless legs that is me too!

Ruggle · 10/12/2013 13:50

deuscat, I didn't think you were being insensitive at all. I just wanted to explain why some people (ahem...me...ahem) have this obsessiveness about testing. I must have peed on well over £100 already!

Hollyjokes, I'm getting restless legs day and night. It's soooooo annoying...and I'm not even 5 weeks along yet!
I don't think I've had more than 3 hours sleep per night for the past week, what with peeing every hour, legs jumping, partner snoring and step-monkey getting up in the night. Last night I had foxes howling outside my window!

I had my doc's appointment this morning. Got told off for not taking folic acid, but I've done a lot of research into it and not found any conclusive evidence that it does anything helpful, and I'm not one for taking something just because it seems to be the done thing.
Anyhow, I'd rather get my vits and mins from natural sources rather than synthetic, so I'm overdosing on salad, fruit and cheese at the mo!

Congrats to the newbies, and peeps with twinnies!

HungryHorace · 10/12/2013 14:22

Science, I think it's the potassium content in bananas that helps. I think someone also recommended magnesium supplements last time as I suffered really badly with restless legs with DD.

Holly, maybe bananas aren't great for you. Mine today was a bit old and the texture almost tipped me over the edge!

SliceOfLime · 10/12/2013 14:42

Aa ahh I'm not the only one who thinks dh is stinky! Poor husbands! Fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow funky.

Bleurgh to marmite tea tallulah - but whatever does it for you! My new anti sickness trick is nibbling a fry's peppermint cream - had a mouth full of it yesterday when I was turning the pram round and nearly ran over Mr Bates from Downton Abbey buying his Xmas tree! So nearly spat it out. Charming Grin

sillymeagain · 10/12/2013 14:46

Grr...to the not sleeping. ..I have had shocking nights sleep for the past week and I am only 5 weeks. I never had that before and thought it was coincidence but reading above it seems a common theme. I am soooo thirsty in the night and manage to drink a pint of squash(mainly in my sleep)...therefore adding to the need to pee! Drinking loads in the day as well so not dehydrated just really thirsty.

Shakshuka · 10/12/2013 14:50

I know this sounds awful but there's a homeless guy who always sits with all his stuff pilled up next to him on a bench on the subway platform and I have to walk past him on the way home. He really stinks to high heaven, poor guy, and him and all his stuff are totally filthy. I tend to get queasy in the late afternoon/early evening which also when I'm coming home so that doesn't help either. I find myself gagging as I walk past him and I've taken to having to hold my breath before I get close. I feel so rude but I'm assuming that's better than retching as I walk by!!

Thankfully working from home today!

Even more so because there's a snow storm outside so I can watch it from my window without being in it :)

HungryHorace · 10/12/2013 15:00

I struggled last time as I commute to work on the train and the smell of stale and / or fresh smoke on smokers used to really turn my stomach!

Also strong perfume. When one of my nasty bitch colleagues found out about the perfume she used to spray it excessively and more often. DH told me I should have puked on her as punishment! Tempting, but I managed not to!

Shakshuka · 10/12/2013 15:04

The subway here smells of piss. It's revolting although it's even worse in summer when the urine obviously evaporates and you get really strong whiffs of it that make me gag even when not pregnant. The Underground smells of roses in comparison!

Hollyjokes · 10/12/2013 15:24

Hungry I think I might have to give the bananas a miss after all - I haven't kept a single thing down today yet! I'm off to the EPU tomorrow for help because I'm really struggling.

Ruggle I'm not really managing to keep my folic acid tablets down as I'm vomiting them back up within minutes. I was the same last time and remember asking a doctor about it and he said not to worry about it! So I'm not stressing too much if I don't manage them some days.

Hello all, sorry for the silence of late. Had no other symptoms than sore boobs and tiredness so didn't have too much to contribute but I've been enjoying reading how everyone is doing.

Midwife contacted me for the first time today, my first apt (I guess the booking in one?) is being done at my home. Is that normal? My house is very clean anyway but I'm going to make sure it's totally spotless before she comes over! Feel like my house will be assessed along with me! But I guess they see all sorts!

She also said my scan will come through in the next week or so. Not sure if she meant the letter for it or the scan itself. Fingers crossed the scan so I can get it in before Xmas. Will be nearly 10 weeks at Xmas so will be within the range I guess.

All seems very real now! Excited! Can't concentrate at work again now!!!

isitnearlyteatime · 10/12/2013 15:57

hi all - hope everyones ok

After worrying about my lack of symptoms Im now suffering with sickness at 5 + 5 - think I spoke too soon before! Im not throwing up just feel like it most of the time and am struggling to eat very much as nothing is appealing and I just feel nauseous pretty much all the time

just wondered as a few of you talked about a sickness band and I think I might give that a go - would you be able to give me the name of it or the link - thanks so much

still no sore boobs whatsoever but the sickness is really focusing my mind now most of the time - poor you Holly as I know you've had this really badly for some time - total sympathy for you - Ive only had it for a few days and Im almost beside myself wondering what to do

I also have not been sleeping and have the restless leg syndrome and the waves of tiredness where doing anything is almost too much - oh the joys of pg!

any other hints for treating the sickness gratefully received as Im wondering how Im going to want to eat at the moment :(

QueenOfGeeks · 10/12/2013 15:58

Holly, I hope the EPU are helpful tomorrow.

I will join the ranks of the not sleeping, I don't remember it starting so early last time.. I seem to be freezing during the day and boiling at night, is anyone else getting that? What with the peeing, dh snoring, and a toddler waking at 5:30 it's not going well, then I tell myself I'll try to get an early night tomorrow, but then I can't get to sleep.

Talulah, I am curious about marmite tea, it sounds nice, do you just put some marmite into hot water?

I am currently using opal fruits for morning sickness as the chewing seems to help, but you can't really eat too many of them because of the side effects.

talulahbelle · 10/12/2013 16:03

Queenofgeeks - yes, a spoonful of marmite in hot water. Something about the salty and savouriness of it cuts right through the metallic watery mouth I have. And it's full of b vitamins too.
I'm going to try and get a doctors appointment tomorrow though, I am only fit for lying on the sofa at the moment. No vommiting but the constant nausea is so draining. That and the lack of sleep due to constant peeing. And the fatigue and breathlessness.

isitnearlyteatime · 10/12/2013 16:03

yes Im getting the freezing cold in the day and boiing at night queen - I don't know what that's all about but its most strange

the marmite tea I know I couldn't handle but glad it works for you talulah - hope I can find something that works for me as so far Ive just had water and biscuits which I had to really force down

is anyone else getting mild cramping? mine comes and goes and is a worry - hope Im not the only one with this :(

Ruggle · 10/12/2013 16:17

isitnearlyteatime, I think cramping is normal, as long as there's no bleeding with it. It's supposedly just your uterus and things stretching.
I had a couple of episodes of quite bad cramping last week, but they were short-lived. Very very mild cramps at the moment. How far along are you? I'm only 4+6.

PinaColadas · 10/12/2013 16:32

talulah I'm the same with the sickness, aside from the odd retch I've not been sick but nauseous all the time! I'm finding work really hard even though I'm only in an office. When I get up in the morning the thought of the day ahead sitting at my desk trying to keep sickness at bay is dreadful. Has any one even tried those sea sickness bands?

isitnearlyteatime I'm 6+3 and having mild cramps every now and again. as Ruggle said its normal as your uterus is stretching and there's a lot going on in there. Mines often followed by wind though! Embarrassing but true. I can't look my husband in the eye at the moment I'm so un ladylike Blush

DinkyMole · 10/12/2013 16:53

I still get cramps at 6+4. Sometimes quite bad and if I move too quickly it feels a bit like pulling a muscle.

HungryHorace · 10/12/2013 16:59

Holly, will the EPU prescribe something else? It's good you're being looked at ASAP as dehydration wouldn't be good. Is this as bad as your first pregnancy or worse?

I'm quite crampy too. Doesn't hurt to cough / sneeze yet, but I imagine it's just around the corner though.

I've no idea what the being hot at night is about, but it's really horrible.

isitnearlyteatime · 10/12/2013 17:49

thanks all
Im 5+ 5 today Ruggle - I got bad cramping last week and its returned again this week :(
reassuring to know Im not the only one with the cramps - thanks ruggle, pina, dinky and hungry for your reassurance -sorry to hear your getting it too but Im very relived - every cramp I was getting I was panicking but now I know others are getting it I will try and not over worry!

really loved your comment pina - :) that made me chortle - I feel the same with my DH - the other day I was in pain with cramping and thought I could breathe it out only for it to be loud wind - I don't know who was more embarrased me or the DH and neither of us knew where to look! This pg is not the most glam thing with all these symptoms Ive never felt less ladylike!

Im so shattered, crampy, nauseous, irritable, emotional, sense of smell of a basset, insominic hot sweaty wreck - I don't know how people "glow" in their pg - Ive never felt less "glowy" in my life!

Ruggle · 10/12/2013 17:51

I just caught a glimpse of my reflection at work, and I actually look huge! I can't hold my tummy in at all, and I know it's just bloat at the moment...but still....I'm only 5'1", and so it's really noticeable. I shall have to start moaning on about how much I've been eating recently, or my colleagues will guess....

deuscat · 10/12/2013 18:21

Ruggle I'm exactly the same with the bloating Shock

Isitnearlyteatime in 5+3 and have also had fairly regular cramping. I've also had what feels like pulling a muscle in my abdomen when making any sudden movement.

Sorry to all you ladies suffering so much with the sickness. I'm just still having sore boobs. Nothing else really. Struggling to sleep but I'm not sure why really.

Funky I hope your scan goes ok tomorrow.

Holly I hope you get something sorted at the EPU.

funnyfish2 · 10/12/2013 18:36

holly queen and baggy, I don't know if I have restless legs but I have been sleeping terribly for days now, just not able to sleep deeply and every noise imaginable keeps me awake. body is so uncomfortable and i don't even have a belly yet! to make matters worse, instead of hot flashes at night, i get this bizarre feeling of being absolutely freezing and i have to wear, seriously, three layers of clothing and wool socks into bed even though i've got two duvets to keep me warm. you can imagine how sexy i look to DH with all this on!

tallulah, I hate the metallic mouth feeling too but i don't think i can stomach the marmite tea. I'm of the marmite-haters half of the world and I'm not convinced PG has converted me yet. But it's an interesting one!

science, i wouldn't worry too much about the spotting as long as it's only a bit and you don't have really bad cramps. i say this although i was terrified when it happened to me last week, but after a few days of the same thing I am less anxious when I see it. i called the local pregnancy clinic and they were very reassuring, so you may want to chat to someone if that will help.

hungry, all i can say is that your colleague is of the lowest order imaginable. i can't believe people can be that spiteful! sorry you had to go through that and i agree with your DH that she deserved far worse.

RoseHoney · 10/12/2013 19:37

Tried to catch up on messages but got totally lost lol.
Hello to any newly pregnant people!
Thanks for the welcomes Smile

I've felt as sick as a dog all day Hmm and the worst part is I've totally gone off tea, I love, no, ADORE tea Hmm it's traumatising!! lol.

isitnearlyteatime · 10/12/2013 20:05

thanks deuscat - that's reassuring for me to hear - we sound like pretty similar dates

Ive got the nauseau now but no sore boobs at all - my boobs have not responded in any way whatsoever! Much to the disappointment of the DH!

does anyone take anything for the cramping? Keep wanting to grab something to help as I do for AF but then feel I shouldn't and don't really know what to do - anyone take anything for the cramping??

yes me too rose - felt v sick today and have gone off sweet things infact gone off most things and am struggling to eat much at all - am hoping that my appetite will return - the thought of an omelette now is making me run for the hills whereas I used to love them!
