I've had the flu jab and this is definitely just a head cold - but they really do floor you as a pregnant woman, especially trying to get decent sleep and not being able to take anything decent for it.

midnight1983 · 19/11/2013 16:14

I seem to have had a head cold since the beginning of pregnancy, and then had bronchitis for about 15 days a couple of weeks ago. I had the flu jab in September and felt awful for about 24 hours, but I really, really don't want the flu. I still remember having real flu as a child and it's horrific.

mrsksays · 19/11/2013 17:36

I had flu last year and I thought I was dying! Flu's no joke!

apprenticemamma · 19/11/2013 20:12

Been to mw today and, well it turns out I'm only 24 +4 and not 25+4 as had thought phew! Spoke to hr and they seem ed v chilled about matb form however it's all sorted now.

I may have placenta pravae but they can't tell me for sure if its a csection I'm needing till end January so I have no idea what to do about annual leave etc in case I need to go in 2 weeks early. Yet I feel so snowed under at work have no idea what I can do I don't feel I can have more than a month off before edd. Argh.

On a positive note heard puffins heart beat today. Music to my ears Grin

And I'm totes exhausted its taken all my energy to pick up ds feed put to bed clean house and I can't face cooking dinner now Sad Sad Sad Sad

PainAuxRaisins · 19/11/2013 21:45

BWP and Panto are you going to get the flu jab? Get well soon to anyone who still has a cold/bronchitis/sore throat etc - there seems to be loads of it around at the moment. My DH is convinced he's just had the flu (manflu more like). He was still able to go to work and had no temperature/aches etc so in my book that's just a bog standard cold. Apprentice you sound like you deserve an early night! Finally handed in my MATB1 to HR so now I just have to work out how soon to leave. When's everyone else's last day??

IceNoSlice · 19/11/2013 21:52

Gah, cough is now worse. And I am most unimpressed to have joined the pissy knickers club Sad. This didn't happen at all last pregnancy and I thought I'd got away with it (I thought that surely one benefit of CS would be not getting screwed up pelvic floor but no!)

My last day at work is supposed to be 7 Feb - am due 26 Feb so I might finish a bit earlier and use some leave. We'll see. 26 weeks tomorrow!

OwlinaTree · 19/11/2013 22:16

Last day at work 14th Feb but first day of mat leave 24th cos of half term. Baby due 9th but will have it early.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 19/11/2013 22:21

Pain, no I'm not intending to have the flu jab.

Rockchick1984 · 19/11/2013 22:22

Apprentice glad you got your matB1 sorted. Caesarians are generally done at 39 weeks, is there a reason you'd need it earlier? My placenta is low lying but I'm just hoping it moves!

Ice I think its pregnancy more than labour that cocks up your pelvic floor sadly Sad

My back is killing me today, currently bouncing on birth ball while watching obsessive compulsive cleaners and nagging DH to do more housework for me Grin

liberuna · 19/11/2013 22:45

I know this is very minor compared to what others are going through but don't have anyone else to talk to . So sorry for having a silly whinge but my work is craaappppp!

took day off yesterday because of sleep issues - no way i could have gone in compos mentis. forgot to tell my boss (you doesn't give a rats arse anyway and who didn't notice i wasn't in till gone 4pm)
but told my counterpart and my relevant HR advisor. I specifically didn't say i was "working from home" because I lay in bed all day and knew I wasn't going to do anything.

Today I get an email saying you won't get paid for it. Now , I know my work place is crap because they don't pay any sick as it is discretionary up to the managers.
and I could get done as I didn't follow procedure i.e tell him specifically but he's not stated as such. i have 1 day sick over the last 12 months and can't afford not to get paid but damm him if he thinks I'm putting my baby at risk.

any suggestions before i ring his neck tomorrow?

Rockchick1984 · 19/11/2013 23:09

Do others on your team tend to get paid while off sick? If so, then challenge him (sexual discrimination for being pregnant etc) but if it genuinely isn't usually paid then there's not much you can do - if you're off for more than 3 days then SSP would kick in, but that is unpaid for the first 3 days anyway.

dizhin79 · 19/11/2013 23:18

I would check ur hr policies, do u get pregnancy related sick days paid, also not counted towards any sickness record? If so he may not be aware of that policy. Trouble is without speaking to him u can't find out exact reasons.

Good luck and I hope u sleep tonight so can be fresh tomo Smile

dizhin79 · 19/11/2013 23:24

pain last day of work 28th Feb, baby due 14th got to try. and hold out for that extra bit of pay!

apprenticemamma · 20/11/2013 07:01

rockchick u work in hr? Seem v knowledgeable! Mw said c section could be up to two weeks prior depending on placenta situation. So as long as I take annual leave and mat leave over a month then would have at least two weeks off.

Commiserations my fellow pissy knickers Wink

mrsksays · 20/11/2013 08:30

Yuck, cold has progressed into a full blown chesty cough - this is not what I need! Really glad the nurse gave me a fresh batch of inhalers when I got my flu jab. Loving the free prescriptions!

So I've been granted another duvet day thank god. Haven't had any pissy pants accidents yet but yesterday when I blew my nose really hard it felt like my fanny was abut to fall out - what the hell??

This pregnancy lark is ironically very un-ladylike!

mrsksays · 20/11/2013 08:35

Oh and maternity leave - well as I'm self employed it s a bit different but I plan to stop going into the office by the end of Feb and hopefully work from home til the baby comes, at least for the first two weeks of March. I'm due on the 17th so if I can get that extra 2 weeks work in then I will earn half a months wages - which we could really do with as SMA is basically bugger all!

I'm not sure how long I'll be off for - I can only really afford 6-8 months off completely but I might be able to do a phased return where I work from home completely to start with and build up to 3 days a week back in the office. Who knows, it's all such I chartered territory.

Pantomime · 20/11/2013 09:26

Pain If I ever stop coughing and sniffing I may have the flu jab. Given how many people feel ill after though its not exactly a tempting prospect but still better than real flu.

I think the worst part is having to tense my stomach muscles before I cough. If I just cough it feels like I am ripping something inside. Doctor and Midwife both blame my hypermobility which is a pain in the arse because if it gets any worse I have to go to physio. On the plus side though I am blessedly free of pissy pants (touch wood!!).

I am thinking of working up to a few days before my due date if I'm able. Working at a desk means it wouldn't be too hard and other women at work have done it. May wuss out though closer to the time...

Anyone else worried their baby will show up weeks late? I don't really want too much intervention when the time comes...

Imeg · 20/11/2013 09:49

I'm stopping end of January, 5 weeks before due date, as I drive a long way to work and just don't think I'll cope with 12 hour days, especially in the winter, scraping the car in the early hours etc. I will have essays to finish for a training course that I won't have finished yet.
I saw my belly wriggling while in the bath last night - very weird!! First time I've seen it happen (don't spend a lot of time with belly uncovered...). I think the baby may have shifted position or something as the movements feel slightly different now, so maybe that may be making it more obvious - maybe limbs are facing outward now?

Rockchick1984 · 20/11/2013 09:49

Apprentice not in HR but used to be in retail management and they basically paid for all of us to do HR training so that head office had to involve themselves as little as possible! I'm planning on getting back into something similar when I return to work so make sure to keep my knowledge up to date!

mrsksays · 20/11/2013 10:11

Imeg I've noticed the movements feels a bit different too - higher up and more rolls and presses rather than little jabs and pokes.

I can't wait to have another little peek in there and see what the funny little thing is getting up to in there - having a bonus scan on Dec 4th.

FoxMulder · 20/11/2013 10:35

Hi everybody! How's it going?

liberuna · 20/11/2013 11:27

Hellooo fox what you been up to?

Jealous of thise with scans to go. I've used my quota :(

Been sat in doctors for an hour as had ridiculous palpitations last night. Then back to work to beg to be paid. Feeling extremely sorry for myself. I hate hormones normally would just get on with things

FoxMulder · 20/11/2013 12:18

Ah Lib that sounds crap. What did the doctor say? Why wouldn't work pay you?

I've been on a bit of a long weekend. Not being at work is bloody brilliant. I can't wait for mat leave now!

commsgirl · 20/11/2013 13:32

Lib how crap. What did the doc say? I hope you can resolve things at work. You're doing the right thing putting baby first but you know that already :)

Mat leave - my last day will be 21st Feb. Due on the 14th.

Mrsk hope you feel better soon!

liberuna · 20/11/2013 15:13

Sorry to hear panto & mrsk

Been signed off for a week by gp. Getting hospital appointment to get me wired up and heart monitored for 24 hours. Baby us fine bit they want to keep ab eye on palpitations. Work won't pay for Monday (weird policy, my boss is hr manager) but obviously will now pay for the rest if week.

Re: mat leave trying to work as late as possible. Take 1st 2 weeks of March as holidays and mat leave from 14th. Still have to run it by hr as im due 9th march. :s
