6 hrs til scan now! I am so so nervous. How does it work, do you know if all ok quite quickly?

MyNameIsWinkly · 25/11/2013 08:54

Yes cheesy, the ultrasound technician should be able to see the baby near enough immediately. Fingers crossed for you.

cheesysmile · 25/11/2013 09:02

Thanks Winkly Smile

HannahC1989 · 25/11/2013 09:05

Good luck with your scans today ladies. Mines thursday taking soooo long to get here.
Quick question... someone on my fb posted a picture saying they were due in may and they knew it was a girl? Is this possible? Isnt it too early?
Thanks xx

MyNameIsWinkly · 25/11/2013 09:10

You can have a private gender scan from 16 weeks apparently, and if she's due in May she could be 17 - 18 weeks I suppose.

HannahC1989 · 25/11/2013 09:16

O can you... good to know! Thanks for clarfifying... we didnt want to know the gender of our first so i wasnt sure when you could tell xx

Mitchell2 · 25/11/2013 10:44

Hi Hannah - I am currently waiting for my harmony type test results (10+5 weeks at the moment) and as part of that they tell you the gender, so I will be just over 11 weeks hopefully and will know Smile

MTMD · 25/11/2013 11:05

Does anyone know how we're supposed to treat cold sores? I have a nasty one on my lip and it hurts.. . :(

kittygirl33 · 25/11/2013 11:28

Typhoon, I had the same procedure but it was about five/six years ago. It came back as CIN 2, and at the time they told me that they had removed an "average" amount of tissue and that it would not affect any pregnancies at all. Since then I've had annual smears, and everything has been fine. I told my midwife about it at my booking in appointment and she didn't seem concerned at all. Sorry, not sure if this is any help. I think if you have repeat procedures then there's a chance the cervix can become shortened, but with one treatment I think things should be fine? Also, with CIN 1 it's likely that they didn't need to remove very much tissue. I'm sure your midwife will be able to put your mind at rest.
I've also got my 12 week scan this afternoon so feeling very nervous. Good luck to everyone else with scans today!

wispaxmas · 25/11/2013 12:09

Hannah, like Mitchell, my sister had the harmony test done at 10 weeks and at 12wks she knew she was having a boy!

Cherryjellybean · 25/11/2013 12:28

mtmd I would love to know too! I have a beast of one and it is so annoying when I try and smile. I haven't used anything yet because I was hoping it would disappear quickly.

Good luck to everyone having scans today!!

hackneybird · 25/11/2013 12:30

Mitchell I'm also waiting for Harmony results! Going in next Monday to have my nuchal and then get results. Feeling apprehensive.

I'm not going to find out the gender as we didn't with DS, and I really liked the 'it's a boy!' moment when he was born. It was really nice not knowing exactly 'who' I was going to meet during my pregnancy with him. Plus I don't have any strong feelings about whether I'd like it to be a boy or a girl.

super I very much hope that you are able to see a sympathetic health worker to help you get some stress relief. Please don't worry about harming the baby though - you won't, although being without the stress will help you enjoy the pregnancy more and turn it into a positive experience for you.

wispaxmas · 25/11/2013 12:59

mtmd, can you not use zovirax? NHS says you should only use it if your doctor says you should, so perhaps call the midwife or GP?

From motherisk.org: 'Studies have shown that the use of acyclovir or valacyclovir is not associated with an increase in birth defects. Limited data exist for famciclovir and therefore it would not be considered a first-line choice for treatment of herpes during pregnancy.' (www.motherisk.org/prof/updatesDetail.jsp?content_id=942)

Zovirax is acyclovir, so studies apparently say it's fine.

MinaLeeds · 25/11/2013 13:43

So excited for all you ladies with scans coming up! I'm hoping that a letter with my scan date will be waiting for me at home. We're on the road back to Leeds after a weekend of no Internet in the Forest of Dean. We were having a Girlie weekend with my 3 best friends from Uni & partners and it was wonderful. One of the girls (who got married just a few weeks before me) is also pregnant so we got to have lots of mummy to be chats which was awesome. What's not so awesome is the fact that I seem to have become somewhat blocked up over the last few days. I'm drinking about 2L of water every day and eating healthily & getting fibre so I don't know quite what to do. :(

On an aside, house we were staying in had apple trees laden with fruit so I've got a boot full of apples to turn into baby food and bottle for when the little one arrives. Have plans for apple & beetroot (from FIL) and apple & rosehip (wild) purée so far. :)

BEEwitched · 25/11/2013 13:56

Re: cold sores, maybe try Zam Buk? I'm constantly getting nicks and cuts on my fingers at the moment and weird spots on my face and they all turn angry and red (my immune system is clearly shot) and Zam Buk works a treat!

superlambanana · 25/11/2013 14:34

Could you use tea tree oil? Would that work?

Made it to 2.5hrs in work before I gave in and came home. Feel awful!! Thrown up twice today! Train on way home was cancelled too so had to spend twenty minutes sitting on cold damp steps (as I couldn't stand, feeling too faint) waiting for replacement bus which was late. Email to train company has already been sent!

Have staggered upstairs and collapsed in bed. Can't see me being in work tomorrow...

Junebabyjoy · 25/11/2013 14:40

Sounds like most of you are feeling just as sick, tired and generally shitty as me then. Still puking daily despite everybody telling me this would ease of as I approached the 12 week mark. Usually puke after tube/car journeys and after taking boots own poisonous pregnancy support tablets (not buying these again). Must be so exciting for those of you who are having 12 week scans already, mine will be delayed as I referred myself to UCLH after first midwife appointment at the hellhole that is the Whittington. Has anyone else been here?? It is a crumbling mess! got lost and ended up just strolling into the prem baby unit. No security at all so cancelled all further appointments there and now have to wait until 13 weeks for booking appointment and 14 weeks for 12 week scan, oh well, at least UCLH has a great rep and is clean, organised and secure!

MyNameIsWinkly · 25/11/2013 14:40

Oh super you poor thing, you really are having a terrible time :(

MTMD I'm pretty sure that once the cold sore is fully fledged, zovirax etc aren't any use. They have to be applied right at the start. You'll be better off managing the pain. Tea tree could be a good idea but may sting! Hope it goes soon. In the meantime do remember to wash your hands obsessively, especially before going to the toilet as well as after, to reduce the chances of re-infecting yourself somewhere else.

MTMD · 25/11/2013 14:46

June, you're scaring me, I'm registered with Whittington. Seeing MW on Wednesday. Appointment is not in the hospital though but in a children's centre across the park from me.

Re: cold sore. I read mixed stuff on Zovirax.. Bought some witch hazel which is meant to dry it out. Never heard of it before but it's definitely pregnancy friendly so let's see...
