gummy Yes lets share Smile we want to wait until we meet her to be sure sure so have a little list with Annabel at the top. Also prefer the spelling Annabel and it's the Scottish version so good from a family side too.

Toby I love Sebastian but DH didn't so off the short list for boy's before the 20 scan.

We have another scan at 32 weeks, thinking of asking if their still sure babies a girl. Hope so as family have bought us a lot of pink...

Sultanajo · 09/11/2013 15:05

Loving all the names! Toby, Alex and Seb were all on my list and vetoed by DH.... DH also did a lot of vetoeing without much input.... Its annoying you have to think of bullying when thinking of names. We would have had Guiseppe otherwise as DH is from the Med, but I ended up vetoeing it from a fear of him being bullied and me sounding like a twat calling out his name with a british accent! Wink

Hadnt considered it as a middle name though.....hmmmm.....

BookTart · 09/11/2013 15:06

Luckily gummi I know this is a girl, so I only have to fight the battle on one front :) I get to choose the middle name apparently. We'll see about that...

Swannykazoo · 09/11/2013 15:36

Names - should have worked this out before I got upduffed I think. DH is a bit of a pain at the minute. He's really keen to give the LO loads of middle names after his relatives - who are still alive and pains in the bloody tonsils to boot Frankly I don't think you can be named after one grandmother/mother etc and not expect the other one to feel a bit left out so I'm not going down that road. I'm also a bit fussy that I think one middle name is plenty - at the Royal Wedding/Royal Baby extravanganza I was scoffing at the Gerge Arthur William Louis Charles Uncle Tom Cobbly that was going on. His other genius suggestion is if its a boy to name him after his grandfather, which happens to be same name as my Dad - a Dad I'm on bare speaking terms with and reconciliation seems unlikely...Hmm
Possibly have a girl's name, still arguing on middle names. I like Grace a lot - my heroine was Grace Darling when I was a child so I like the Grace/elegance vs Grace Darling contrast. DH wants Constance after the character Beryl Reid plays in the original Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Can you tell I'm not keen?

AnotherStitchInTime · 09/11/2013 15:51

This name thing is a bit of a nightmare isn't it? My DH is just unhelpful and suggests names like Ragnor and Sven, we have no Scandinavian connection and even then I wouldn't choose those names anyway.

I like Grace far better than Constance puggle, Constance is the name of that silly barrister who got embroiled in the Huhne/Pryce mess and got charged with perverting the course of justice.

In hospital till Monday as still had light bleeding today. MRI inconclusive, but suggests some embedded placenta. Got to have another ultrasound on Thursday to look at placenta again. Good news is placenta is moving posterior away from cs scar which reduces the risk of having a major haemorrhage during my ELCS for this birth because they might not have to cut through the placenta to get baby out.

BandontheFun · 09/11/2013 15:51

Totally agree on men saying 'no way' then giving no
suggestions.

Frizz those are lovely names.

Really liked the name Henry but that's been vetoed.

I really like Harrison for a boy (fave Beatle) Dh seems to like it but is still not sure! Have no other boy names that we can agree on, think cos names remind him of people he grew up with so they are a no go! Strange how someone having a name can completely put u off! Many of the boys names I have said have been 'too gay' as well.

I really like Harley or Hannah for a girl.....think I may have a thing for H names. :)

I floated the idea of Percy. It was a no go! Lol.

BandontheFun · 09/11/2013 15:55

Cross posted

another, That's good news! Is it bad that I had no idea they had to cut the placenta if u get a section and its in the way?...kinda just thought they would lift it up, may have to pick up those pregnancy books again or brave watching OBEM.

GummiBear74 · 09/11/2013 16:28

another, that sounds like good news. If they don't let you out on Monday, one of us will bake you a cake with a file in it so you can saw through the window bars!

book, that's probably a good thing! I was allowed to choose the middle name as well (they're so generous!), so it'll be Annabel Rose.

I'm liking Harrison and Grace very much. I've also noticed that there are no Georges! Did anyone think about George and then change their mind because of the Royal baby?

BookTart · 09/11/2013 16:49

another - hope you manage to escape again soon! Good news about the placenta moving. Grace is a gorgeous name. Agree with you on Ragnor as well ;)

If you like H names band then Helena and Hazel were both on my list, and then banned by DH.

gummi middle name might end up being Isobel after my favourite elderly auntie, but I'm a bit put off by the millions of little Isobel/Isabelles out there at the moment. Annabel Rose is lovely :)

fryingpantoface · 09/11/2013 17:17

I love the name George, but DH isn't keen, he was coming around and then Prince George was born blah blah

I figure we've got ages before need to decide. We need to buy a cot for heaven's sake, so some time left :-)

GummiBear74 · 09/11/2013 17:32

Thanks book! I love Isobel with an 'o' rather than an 'a'. Unfortunately DSis already nabbed it (the 'a' version) for my niece, so not really an option for us.

Sultanajo · 09/11/2013 17:48

Yep, George was on my list and then the prince was born....

another sorry u r stuck til Monday but great news about the placenta moving out of the way. Grin

littlealien01 · 09/11/2013 18:44

gummibear weve also tried to find names that work in dutch and english as dh is half dutch and were hoping baby will be bilingual. its tricky, so many names that dont translate. think weve finally agreed our choices tho.

im lucky tho dh has been more flexible than me ( even if he has vetoed most of my "granny era" names

GummiBear74 · 09/11/2013 19:04

Hi littlealien! We got the PIL to bring a book of Dutch baby names over so I could go through them and make a short list. It was a bit useless, though, most of the names were from other cultures. Ramses, anyone?

It seems like a few of us are going to try to bring up bilingual children. Our plan is just for DH to speak to her in Dutch & me in English. Has anyone done any research into the best way to do this?

Swannykazoo · 09/11/2013 19:24

Poor you another - hope USS on Tues is reassuring and you get out soon and safely. If your other half wants Scandi names what about Eric? DH not at keen cos he doesn't like Eric Cantona (FFS!) but I really like it.

I'm absolutely knackered after lots of (small) box moving and unpacking.
Our new house has a double bath so I'm really really hoping I can manage to go into labour on my own as the bath looks great - but definitely too tired for it tonight, I'd need a lifejacket given the chance of falling asleep in the bath...

enormouse · 09/11/2013 20:02

George was on our list gummi as its a family name for DP. He has it as a middle name, and his dad has it as a first name. Basically, all the men in his family have george in there somewhere and we didn't bother with DS.

So thought we'd use it as a first name for the new baby but vetoed it because of the royal baby. And I can't seem to seperate the name George from Hugh Laurie on blackadder.

Swannykazoo · 09/11/2013 20:04

Actually no chance of falling asleep as my lunatic of an OH has "fiddled" with the central heating last night and now even though it says it is on - cold radiators all round. And the guilty party is away tonight getting another load in our van. Was all working fine yesterday too GrrrrrrrrrrrrAngry

Sultanajo · 09/11/2013 20:09

gummi thats an interesting idea! Dont think DH would be up for that as it knackers him going back to speak his native language.

puggle....a double bath? Is that double the width of a normal bath? I am super jealous! We both want a big bath but our bathroom is tiny, so it will be a future dream if we end up putting up an extension.... I used to love taking baths with DH, but no way we could do that in this house, especially currently with bump and my ever growing ass Wink

Toothfairy78 · 09/11/2013 20:16

Evening all!

I've just done my homework for NCT class tomorrow, so back to mooching around on the internet!

We had a name picked out for a girl before ttc, but seem to be struggling for boys names. DH has been very good at both vetoing names and suggesting a couple. DH did suggest Sebastien as a name, but really with Seb in mind for general use. I quite like Arthur but that's because I like Art as a short name. Because my family are Chinese, I really want them ToothJr to have a chinese middle name. For a girl that's easy, as I've always wanted to give them my mum's name as she died 15 yrs ago. For a boy, I'll need my dad's help.

It is hard picking names cos for every name you pick there will be at least one pillock with that name famous or not, who you'll object to. Might try my friend's tip for testing names which involves shouting it across the garden as in "[name] come in dinner's ready!" or "[name] you little xxxx stop that right now!"

OP posts:
Swannykazoo · 09/11/2013 20:16

It is double the width - yay! Would be very comfy for two normal people or just one pregnant lady...I'll be very cross if I end up being induced at the hospital as I really fancy a good wallow in this for a while

Sultanajo · 09/11/2013 20:31

Ah puggle that sounds like absolute bliss! A girl can dream.....what I wouldnt give to be able to wallow in a big bath right now.....

MrsGSR · 09/11/2013 20:41

Loving all of the names, quite a few have been said that we would use if they weren't the names of close family members! DH was a nightmare when trying to chose boys names, he's been in the army for 12 years, moving to a new camp every 2 so a lot of names remind him of people he knew!

We just ordered our pram! I've also had a bit of a spree on eBay and bought loads of clothing bundles, we'll have more than enough for at least the first 6 months!

Gummi DHs best friend has done one parent one language with his daughter, he speaks English and his wife speaks German. Their daughter is 4 and speaks both really well. I first met her when she was 2 and her English was better than most 2 year olds I know who only speak English! She's really good at knowing who to talk which to as well.

GummiBear74 · 09/11/2013 21:13

Thanks mrsg, that's good to know. She obviously needs to be able to communicate with that side of the family and it's so much easier learning languages as a baby, when the brain is set up to do it.

So jealous of your bath puggle Envy We haven't had one at all for about 4 weeks while the bathroom is being redone and I miss it so much! I think it'll still be ages yet, but hopefully before Christmas...

quackojuliet · 09/11/2013 22:05

I think teaching your children to be bilingual is just a case of speaking to them in that language regularly from birth. Though them being able to read and write the language is different I guess.
Definitely worthwile trying to give them both languages as it'll be so useful to them in future, without any of the hassle of having to learn consciously. Plus I think it's really important that the child understands their background from both cultures not just the one they live in.

Naturegirl82 · 09/11/2013 22:14

Wow lots of talk of names today!

another hope your next scan goes well.

I've well and truly done myself in. A couple of hours driving and walking round the shops together with baby deciding today was a good day to move position and start booting me very hard has well and truly exhausted me. Back is killing and I most definitely feel like I've been kicked in the lady area! Was lovely seeing my friend though. Off to bed for me as busy day again tomorrow. Night all
