gummy the bilingual boards on here are pretty good if not super active for ideas. i think the main thing is consistency and providing a need for the language. my dutch is still pretty ropy so will be very much dh speaking dutch and english with the odd dutch word from me. we have some dutch nursery rhyme videos tho and plan to get some books. mil has also been asked to only speak dutch to baby

littlealien01 · 09/11/2013 22:22

who else is aiming for bilingual babies??

extracrunchy · 09/11/2013 22:25

My big boy is called Rory Smile he's also hit terrible twos with a bang but intersperses nightmare tantrums with being utterly adorable.

This evening we went to see some fireworks - he was totally spellbound throughout, and then at the end he grabbed my face and pulled me really close and yelled "tank you mummy for taking me fireworks!!!!" totally spontaneously. He breaks my heart every day!

TobyLerone · 09/11/2013 22:33

Aaawwwww, extra, that's adorable :o

I really love the name Rory.

extracrunchy · 09/11/2013 23:44

I broke the MN rules I'm told. Used "totally" twice and gushed.
Bugger it. He's ace!

enjoyingscience · 10/11/2013 03:40

That's lovely extra! What a sweetheart.

I've just discovered what heartburn is, so am up drinking milk. Pregnancy insomnia is the best, eh.

We're very stuck on names, but I like cassia or grace for a girl, and theo for a boy. DP likes none of those. I will win eventually, as he hasn't made any suggestions at all.

Hope everyone else is sleeping soundly :)

TarkaTheOtter · 10/11/2013 03:51

Hi enjoying I'm up too - toddler not pregnancy related though.
We went to the fireworks tonight too. Had a nice day getting all the baby stuff down from the loft. Most of our newborn stuff is neutral so we're actually pretty prepared.

SarahJayne321 · 10/11/2013 04:42

Also up with heartburn, gaviscon and milk not helping yet.

Enjoying, Theo is lovely, I got told no by dp about that one too. Men!

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 10/11/2013 05:34

Lovely names, everyone!

enjoying i really like Grace, so very elegant. Top of our list is Eva at the minute. DD loves Wall-E, and i like how classic it sounds. Its had quite a revival at the minute though, and i thought we would go with something less popular, so i'm still wavering a bit. It works with DD's name though, and our surname, so that's more important.

I had an awful dream last night about being in a plane crash, and DH having to kick out the windows of the plane (they must have been pretty flimsy!) so we could swim to the surface of the lake we landed in. We went to he hospital, and i was desperate to find out if the baby was OK. They kept trying to tell me there was no baby, and that i'd never even been pregnant, despite my having a huge bump. It was horrible, very 'twilight zone' and i woke up feeling all weird. Thankfully DD was extra snuggly this morning and insisted in eating her porridge on my lap, snuggled in her blanket, which fixed the weirdy feeling.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. It's a working day for me, although i work from home, and would rather be on the sofa watching rubbish TV and eating Jaffa Cakes. Must. Resist.

Sultanajo · 10/11/2013 07:56

enjoying and sarah so sorry about the heartburn. I cant believe the gross disgusting gag inducing gaviscon seems to be working for me! Doesnt get rid of it completely and I still have to sleep practically upright, but it has made it 85% better. I just couldnt sleep last night - finally properly slept from 3am and have been awake since 7am! Sooo annoying as am completely knackered! Really wanted to sleep on the sofa again last night but DH wanted to stay up watching zombie films and match of the day.....

I am soooo relieved I only have one more week at work! I feel very lucky. Grin Then I really have to get my ass in gear and get myself organised.....suddenly dont feel prepared at all! Confused

TobyLerone · 10/11/2013 08:09

I know tons of Evas/Evies/Avas, purple, including my niece (who is Ava Grace).

Yes, it's very popular, but that doesn't mean it's not a lovely name.

DS is called Joe. It's not particularly trendy, so its appeal is fairly constant, I suppose. He's one of 2 Joes in his rugby team and one of 3 in his year at secondary school. There were none in his primary school year, though. I suppose he'll always meet plenty of other Joes in his life, and it doesn't matter :)

Is Eva definitely popular where you are? DD has one of the names which is apparently very popular for babies currently, especially in the South East (she's called Esme), but I've only ever met one other and she was a similar age to mine (12).
Maybe I just don't know many small children, but it's quite common on MN to hear people say that they don't know of any children with the supposedly popular names.

Sorry you had a horrible dream, Purple :(
I keep having really frantic dreams about having to do something/be somewhere, but not being able to.

Plans for today include emptying cupboards for the electrician to finally come round tomorrow, visiting my poorly nephew and sitting on my arse catching up with everything we've recorded on TiVo.

Have a lovely day, all!

Angelesque · 10/11/2013 08:11

My favourite boy's name is Theo too! I absolutely love it, I think it's classic yet a bit different. DH has totally vetoed it though... Arrrgh! I'm not giving up just yet though. Toying with sending him out to the pub to celebrate just after little 'un is born so I can sneak off and register the birth... And call bubs Theo, ha ha!

Frizz1986 · 10/11/2013 09:45

I love the idea of my child being able to speak another language and am rather envious of those with additional languages in their lives who are able to pass it onto the kids. I am useless at languages and just had to give it my best shot when we go on holiday.

Ahhhh Sunday. Had a pants day yesterday (just boring). Dh went to play a star trek model game thing with friends from 11am until 4:30pm (it was a bday thing) then we were supposed to go out to the party after tea. However when Dh got home he really couldn't be bothered going to the party and the more I thought about it the more I couldn't be bothered either. It was a house party but I expect it will have been rather student like. The people haven't quite grown up yet and lots of their friends are still at that 'let's drink loads' stage. Plus Dh said they only have about 6 seats in the house so I thought what's the point if we wouldn't stay long.
So I spent the whole day sat doing nothing which was really draining and unenjoyable.

Today's plan to is to wash some more baby things and make some lemon cupcakes for work. Have had a few cake requests but am going to have to turn them down unless they are for a Monday as I just don't have the energy midweek to be baking after work.

Had a nice meltdown on Friday after work. Am supposed to be finally having my mat meeting this week but I think I overheard the guy saying he was off this week, then my boss is off next week so hell knows when I am going to get anything. Plus I worked my ass off on Friday as someone was off and it was just too much. The same girl is off next week (the same week as my boss) and i am already stressed. It was too much just her being off so I won't be able to cope with my boss off too. The boss says her work can be left but someone will have to check emails and take phone calls and sort problems and do petty cash etc and that would normally be me but as this other girl is off as well who is going to support me? No one!
Then on Friday my boss told me that another woman is off on thurs and fri this week so we can cover her work between us! Wow wait a second. Someone else needs to be taking charge of cover. I only have 6 weeks left and they still expect me to step in. They have changed my role at work to do a customer that we lose at Xmas so that they can get themselves set for next year (essentially if they can plan themselves properly I will just do this customer and so when I go at Xmas so does this customer so there won't be any extra work for them to sort out)
I walked in the door and just burst into tears. Need to have a word with my boss early this week and tell her it's too much but feel bad as I am just pregnant so I shouldn't be expecting special treatment really, but on the other hand if i don't start slowing down (to the speed that the rest of the staff seem to be allowed to work at) this baby could come early and then they are screwed.

Sorry for the me ranting post just need to destress as woke up today feeling stressed about it being work tomorrow.

quackojuliet · 10/11/2013 09:58

Aww frizz definitely speak to your manager tomorrow. Sounds like they'll keep taking advantage of you until you speak up and get some support. At 8 months pg we really do need to slow down, and things like not sleeping well, being anxious about the birth and trying to get everything sorted mean work is just not a priority right now!
I am going to talk to my manager tomorrow too and say I'm leaving at 35 weeks. Just finding it too much of a struggle.

Sultanajo · 10/11/2013 12:37

Oh frizz it sounds like they are really taking the piss! That situation would be stressful enough without being preggers! Who authorised all those holidays at the same time? Thats frickin ridiculous and if anyone should be taking on more responsibility it should be your boss! Its always the frickin same though isnt it? Problem is they will carry on unless you say something. I really feel for you frizz! I felt absolutely awful calling in sick this week, the week before I go off. However, after struggling thru a day of diarrhoea and vomming while trying to work I realised something had to give, but actually felt quite empowered when I actually called my boss the next morning and simply said "I dont want you to think I am skiving off but I struggled thru yesterday and am not working today and will come back when I am better. I have delegated a few bits to my mat cover and everything else can wait until I am back...."

Do you know how things could be resolved? Are you able to take both the problem and solution to them? I have found in the past I have had my greatest successes tackling things that way - the less thinking they have to do and the easier you can make the decision for them, the greater the chances of you getting the solution you want....

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 10/11/2013 14:00

I actually have no idea if it's popular over here Toby, I think my research pool of small children is too small! Friends at home have an Evie. Isabelle seems to be one of the most popular names here - literally a quarter of the girls in Dd's nursery class are called a variant! (I was eyeing the first day class lists in September for inspiration) Esme is lovely, and Joe was going to be bumps name if she had been a boy (Joseph, after DH's late grandfather.) I don't know... I can't decide if it bothers me that it's popular or not. DD has a traditional Irish name, and I like Eva as it reminds me of Oife, which I would love, but people over here would pronounce phonetically and that would just grate on me.

Hugs frizz, I hope they can do something to help you. You and your baby are more important than work (something I keep having to remind myself too.) Hope it gets better.

MrsGSR · 10/11/2013 14:00

:( frizz, that sounds like too much work for anyone, let alone someone in the 3rd trimester!
Lemon cakes sound good, I've been baking for DHs work but running out of ideas!

itsonlyapapermoon · 10/11/2013 14:15

Ugh. It's 1am and I'm up cos my stupid legs won't stop jumping (despite slathering on magnesium oil which is supposed to help), DH is snoring, it's too hot in bed, stretchmarks are itching like a mofo and heartburn is pissing me off so I've been up drinking milk too. Haven't checked in in ages but have been lurking. I'm 32 weeks now. Got an ultrasound next Monday to see if my placenta has moved as it was low-lying at my 20wk scan. Just want to get comfortable and go to sleeeeep Angry

Sultanajo · 10/11/2013 14:59

papermoon poor you! That absolutely sucks! Hope you manage to get some sleep soon....

I have been craving orange juice and lemonade for two weeks, so today I ventured out and bought some mini cans of lemonade and some freshly squeezed orange juice and had it with tons of ice. It was the most refreshing thing ever!!! Have now had tons of gaviscon to hopefully cancel out any heartburn it may cause - but it was soooo worth it! Grin

itsonlyapapermoon · 10/11/2013 15:18

Ooh Sultana that sounds nice (minus the heartburn of course!!) :D
I think I might pack myself off to bed now and try to get some sleep. It's DD's 6th birthday tomorrow so I'll have to be up to give her bday pressie :)

TobyLerone · 10/11/2013 16:15

Ugh, frizz, that sounds like a nightmare. You poor thing Flowers

Good luck talking to your boss, juliet.

I love Aoife, purple. I'd have it on my list if it weren't for the fact that I know there are tons of Evas/Avas around here.

paper, poor you :( what a horrible night's 'sleep'.

I love orange juice and lemonade, sultana! It's delicious.

I've been needing a roast since I woke up, but the electrics in my kitchen are still screwed so still no cooker. DH eventually got fed up with my whingeing and took me to the pub for a carvery. I only really wanted roast potatoes, veg, yorkshires, gravy and horseradish. It was delicious!

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 10/11/2013 17:42

Ooohhh, carvery! Lovely. I miss a good carvery. It's hard to find a decent Sunday roast over here for less than about £30 a head, which i tend to pooh-pooh in disgust and resolve to cook it myself. And then the thought of all the prep and washing up hits me, and i don't bother. Glad yours was delish!

Sultana I'm down with your juice and soda combo too. I have to limit myself to one a day otherwise i'd drink fizzy juice non stop. My favourites are orange and soda, or red grape juice and soda. Really refreshing. I bought some non-alcoholic beer at the supermarket this week. We don't get so many options here, but i managed to find one i quite like so am currently supping on one of those whilst watching the footie with DH and pretending to work.

MrsGSR · 10/11/2013 17:50

You've all made me so homesick, dad makes a big roast every Sunday, always with lemonade and orange juice :) made do with a curry at DHs work after the remembrance parade today.

Sultanajo · 10/11/2013 17:56

purple those combos sound awesome!!! Mmmmm! I havent been able to drink anything fizzy since the first trimester, but really enjoyed it today!

Toby yummy carvery! Grin Glad you enjoyed it. I went out and bought steaks earlier and DH made roast potatoes as he too had a craving! Have just scoffed as much as I can (which isnt very much these days).... It was yum and I feel all cosy and toasty inside now! Grin

Really craving another oj and lemonade (its suddenly like a drug...Wink ) but I know I will be pushing my heartburn luck. Will treat myself tomorrow after work - will give me something to look forward to (apart from the end of the work day obviously....) Grin

We just got the pram out of the box and started working out how things work. Managed to get it to collapse down but cant now open it out again. Dont tell me I have broken it already...! Hmm

Sultanajo · 10/11/2013 17:58

Oh mrsg I was exaggerating...it really wasnt that nice. In fact it sucked! Will force another one down tomorrow just so I dont waste it, not because I am dribbling at the thought of it....Wink Poor u!
