Congratulations umlauf on baby Bertie Thanks

I started a journal but put it away when we decorated and didn't start again. More meant as a record of when things happened to remember next time.

Good luck charleston!

Been to nct class today, feels like the weekend :)
Off to midwife appointment now. Hoping she will say baby is engaged and ready to come soon!

PseudoBadger · 27/09/2013 14:27

Ok so unfortunately she does have a small to moderate sized hole in the heart. The cardiologist was very upbeat and said it would be unlikely to require surgery, however it will need to be assessed a few weeks post natal as the pressure in the heart changes after birth and this would either make the severity/degree easier to diagnose, or it may have gone by then. He said that he would fully expect her to be well at birth. So we are as happy as we can be.
Thank you every one for your thoughts today.
I'm now fed up with pregnancy illness/conditions/scans/monitoring etc and am ready for it to be over. She feels so low today it's painful to walk. SC 37+6.

OrangeBlossom2 · 27/09/2013 14:33

Pseudo sorry it was not the news you were hoping for. Thanks If it helps, my friend had a hole in the heart that was not discovered until his 20s. We asked why they didn't check earlier(it was just before our 20 week scan I think) and was told they don't check at 20 week scan because so common and usually go away on their own before birth or in the he first year and don't cause any problems. Fingers tightly crossed that baby pseudos will heal up by itself. If not, at least they know about it now and can fix it if necessary.

ImpOfDarkness · 27/09/2013 14:38

Thanks pseudo. FWIW my BIL was born with a hole in the heart and is now a strapping forty-something-year-old built like a brick shithouse.

Pinkforboys · 27/09/2013 14:47

Pseudo more Flowers and another positive story- my friend's DD was scheduled for a hole in the heart op this summer (at 2 almost 3) but it was cancelled cos it had sealed up on its own.

Sometimes they can almost know too much from the scans, but I guess it's good to be aware. Cake Biscuit Wine for you and DH x

ananikifo · 27/09/2013 15:00

pseudo I'm so sorry to hear about the hole in baby's heart but it's good that it's unlikely to cause a problem. You have every right to be fed up!

I've finished work now and I'm not sure how I feel. It's like I'm heading straight into the unknown. Also on the walk to the bus stop it almost felt like my hip dislocated, and now it hurts to walk. I'm sure it's not serious but I'd prefer not to feel like this now.

I have tickets to the baby and toddler show, although I'll probably just get there in time to collect my goodie bag and go. (Kind of my plan anyway). Has anyone been to one of these things before?

And happy birthday blondies, I think I missed you before.

MrsHoratioNelson · 27/09/2013 15:06

Thanks Pseudo. Good that they have been able to diagnose now though, means that they will be able to get cracking with appropriate treatment as soon as she's old enough.

I'm sorry I just can't keep up today, I've forgotten everything I've read

But just wanted to say sorry about the baby's heart pseudo although its reassuring that now they are aware of it they can now monitor it from day one, and by the sounds of it the outlook is optimistic I hope u and dh are now on talking terms and supporting each other xxx

Natalieand · 27/09/2013 15:51

P.s tarlia my mum just put her baby shower plan into action she texted me and said if I come over tommorow at 3pm she will give me the bits she has brought the baby and cook dd, I'm getting nervous for a suprise party I think its cos I dunno how I'm gunna act suprised lol

Natalieand · 27/09/2013 15:52

Sorry let me re-phrase that... She isn't going to cook dd se is going to cook dd dinner lol

MrsZzz · 27/09/2013 16:05

Hi All,

I haven't posted since the early days but thought I'd send an update. 39 weeks today and started having contractions- about every 15 minutes atm. Bit of a shock as DS was 11 days overdue so wasn't expecting anything for another week at least!

Sorry to hear about baby psuedo's heart- positive that the cardiologist seems upbeat about it though.

Congrats on the new arrivals and happy birthday blondies
Xx

MrsO27 · 27/09/2013 16:12

pseudo my nephew was born with the same and he is like any other 13 year old racing around playing lots of sports etc. Thanks

natalie I would struggle too! Just smile lots and say surprised things like "oh wow", "I did not expect this", "how long have you been planning this" etc. etc. Do you think you'll reveal that you knew about it or are you going to keep that to yourself?

claphammama · 27/09/2013 16:13

pseudo so sorry it wasn't better news but, like many others here, I've also heard so many stories about babies with holes in their hearts who didn't need any treatment and the holes just closed themselves within a few years, not giving them any trouble. I wonder how many of us were born with them before the scans were available and noone knew! Hope you feel OK and no wonder you feel fed up... you, tarlia, MoN (sorry if I'm forgetting someone else...) went through so much with this pregnancy... our common discomforts pale in comparison... hope you have a lovely night to relax! xx

MrsH can't believe some people... have you had some gin? Grin

char1 excited to hear your news soon!

ana and sparkleigh congrats on your last day at work! yay!!

MIL is currently engrossed in the daily study of The Daily Mail (cue ongoing commentary) - they published an article today about Polish women experiencing a surge in sex drive when they come to the UK, apparently they have 4 times more sex here than they used to have in strict Catholic Poland, and the research shows that they are more likely to engage in risky sexual activities such as group sex, swinging etc.... The article was read to me in its entirety as we were watching Jezza Kyle's "it's not your baby and I can prove it so you can get out of my life for good". I was then asked what I thought about the article, especially engaging in group sex and swinging. I just asked "doesn't everyone"? Grin

The article is now waiting for DP on the kitchen table. He will be probably gutted he's picked the wrong one... Grin

monkeytree · 27/09/2013 16:14

congratulations GT and Umlauf

SC at 36 weeks today! Clapham I'm with you at the back of the bus.

Maybe a strange thing to think about at this time of the year but I was wondering if anyone has holidays planned for next year with their new arrivals. It feels like I've missed out on holidays this year (although we have been away for short breaks) and I was wondering if anyone has any travel plans with a young baby? We are campers but don't know if camping with a then 8 month old is a wise plan. A lady who has just had her baby tells me she is going to Spain to a Villa (part of a hotel complex) a couple of times next year and made it sound easy! So just wondering what your plans are?

claphammama · 27/09/2013 16:17

natalie could you try to arrange some botox before tomorrow for a permanent and effortless surprised look?

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 16:23

Pseudo Thanks really sorry to hear your news. I offer no advice but echo what everyone else has said about it being picked up now, and hearing many stories where these conditions sort themselves out or an operation at a young age and all is well.

Clapham your MIL sounds like a good laugh to me Grin I loved her daily mail story telling session..

Enjoy the baby shower Nat...shocked face practising in the mirror tonight Shock

MonkeyTree dp and I are hoping to travel to either Bali or Thailand in late feb early march next year I'm totally insane, crazy woman we have friends who live in Oz and they've just had a little girl, so the intention is to meet up as we don't get to see one another regularly and it'll be lovely having babies the same age. I asked about this way back and everyone seemed to say travelling with a small baby rather than a toddler was much easier.

AnythingNotEverything · 27/09/2013 16:30

Pseudo - it must be a shock but it's better that you know. From what others have posted already it sounds really common and not as serious as one would think. Thinking of you though - put your feet up.

And another lady in labour?! We are on fire this week! Good luck MrsZzzz - our NCT lady said second labours tend to be twice as quick as your first ... Keep us informed!

Natalieand · 27/09/2013 16:31

Haha love the Botox idea clapham

Good question mrso I think I might tell dh tommorow evening that I knew but not my mum etc it might dissapoint them I may just be like 'I knew u was up to something u never invite me round for no reason and cook dd dinner'

monkey my parents are taking my sisters kids to Spain next year they are older though 8+9 years old and dh and I were going to book to take dd (age 3 and baby 8 months) but have since decided against it next year and are going to stay in the UK then go abroad the following year and the baby will be the same age dd was when we took dd abroad for the first time so we will feel a big more prepared xx

cazboldy · 27/09/2013 16:39

Oh Pseudo, sorry it wasn't the best news, but after all the positive stories on here, and from what the doctor said to you, hopefully all will be fine xxx

Good Luck Mrs Zzz Smile

BowlFullofJelly · 27/09/2013 16:41

Bit late catching up today, but congrats GT and umlauf. Sorry to hear you news pseudo, as with everyone else though i have never heard of a bad outcome for a baby born with a smallish hole, so massive fingers crossed for you that bubba is fine.

Still cooking here, 39+4, no signs at all. I am going to defiantly come and join you at the back of the bus ladies, getting pissed off with all these babies arriving on time Grin. jelly i can say confidence i am going to be after you - bet your waters go tonight Envy.

KarmaBiatch · 27/09/2013 16:58

Oh Pseudo, I know it's not the same when it's your own baby that has a condition that is outwith your control, I'm sending lots of positive hippy vibes your way! To add my families story of holes in the heart, both my mum and brother were born with them and both healed up of their own accord. My mum was a nervous wreck when my brother was born (first born and with hole in heart) and apparently treated him like he was made of glass. That glass baby is now a 6'4" rugby player just about to hit age 31! My mum was born in 1952 when holes in the heart were a big shock, but she is still fighting fit and apparently has an extremely healthy heart (must be all that red wine consumption Wink).

Congratulations to all babies born over the last 24 hours, I'm not jealous in the slightest!

Good luck to all those currently in labour Thanks

36+4 and SFC. I'm so frickin' impatient.

kd83 · 27/09/2013 17:06

Hi all, I'm a bit of a lurker, can't keep up enough to ever reply to all your messages.

Great to hear the babies are coming, I'm 38+1 and SC. getting desperate for baby to make an appearance now so downing the raspberry leaf tea.

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 17:12

Good Luck Mrs Zzz hope you have a speedy labour.

I've taken the bull by the horns and am sat here looking rather odd with my breast pump on as I heard nipple stimulation is supposed to help bring on labour, bouncing on my birthing ball, sipping RL tea...Not so keen on this nipple stimulation.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 27/09/2013 17:15

Apperly - did you have a scan to see if there was still fluid around the baby? My scan showed normal fluid around her. I can't believe that the fluid would still be normal after how much came out. I've had no more signs of anything at all so I think they must be right and it was just wee Blush

pseudo so sorry to hear about baby's heart, but really glad they don't think surgery will be necessary.

blondies sorry i forgot to say happy birthday! Hope you're having a lovely day.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 27/09/2013 17:17

Oh and good luck mrsz!
