Clapham you are very naughty!! And yes, I may have to have a gin and tonic this evening. It can't possibly do any harm at this stage, can it?!

Monkey funny you should ask about holidays, DH and I have been having a similar disucssion. We're big fans of France and before I got pg we would usually go at least once a year, even if only for a booze cruise the weekend since we live near a ferry port. We'd been talking about a mobile home type holiday with the baby next year (we've done it before and I did it lots as a kid) and really looking forward to it, but I had also been wondering about going to back to a hotel we know in Kefalonia. Its really relaxing there and I can't help thinking it would be a good time to go, before the baby needs masses of stuff and is too mobile. But the baby will be 8-9 months old then and I guess would be well into weaning. We'd go half board - after all two
weeks of cookin won't be much of a holiday for me - but I'm not sure if we could get a room with a kitchen area so that we could do some fresh stuff for the baby, rather than relying on jars all week.

Do those of you who've got small ones already have any thoughts? It's certainly makes a change from our last few trips - a Californian Road trip and two weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia. Good job we got it out of our systems Grin

For those of you who will be pumping (Flyer just reminded me) there is a vest by Gilligan and O'Malley that you pop the breastpump head in to so that you can pump handsfree (if pump is electric). It's a bit funky looking when you don't have the pump attached as your nipples just poke through the holes Grin but i've given it a wee test and it's awesome that you don't have to hold on to the bottles!!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 27/09/2013 17:27

Waves to mrszzz good to hear from you, hope the contractions continue nicely.

Haha at the article Clapham!

Monkey we have a wedding in Toulouse in May which will be our first holiday as a three. People have said it is easier with a little baby than a toddler that needs entertaining. Not sure if we will fly down or drive in stages. Definitely won't camp, but we rented a cottage really cheaply in France before.

Just had a long appointment with midwife, was very reassuring. She seemed supportive of my birth plan. Husbands allowed to stay throughout if go to MLU. Not if stay in triage area or if end up needing to be induced (done at 12 days here) but will do everything I can to make it come on time and hoping to stay at home until last minute. DH can also stay the night afterwards as long as they remain fully clothed and sleep in the chair (!), and you can stay in your birth room for up to 6 hours, you don't have to go to the ward with everyone else. They have to inform a doctor after 2 hours of pushing but that doesn't automatically mean they have to intervene if I don't want it. So That is most of my worries dealt with and I think we will stick with there rather than a home birth.

I asked for an extra blood test because I keep getting dizzy and faint in case it is iron related. Not blood pressure related, that was fine.

The baby is 2/5ths engaged so heading in the right direction, although it is back to back now so DH has banished me to my ball for the next few weeks. He is happy to have the poang to himself, he is rather fond of it.

KarmaBiatch · 27/09/2013 17:34

We are flying back to the UK in February to introduce our 4 month old to our family and friends! It's a 10 hour flight, and then a 5 hour wait in T5 before flying up to Scotland! Not entirely looking forward to all that travelling with a wee one, but i'm sure it's not impossible Blush

In other news.. at just a few days shy of 37 weeks i have FINALLY looked out all the gubbins to pop in the hospital bag! Baby is now allowed to make an appearance (swallows the EPO horse-sized pills and guzzles down the Raspberry Leaf Tea like it's going out of fashion).

Is anyone going to attempt the Blue & Black Cohosh concoction to bring on labour?

Shootingstarsandcomets · 27/09/2013 17:36

mrshn we took ds too Italy this year at 9 months. I took lots of Ella's kitchen pouches and also cooked stuff for him as we had a villa. Think if you can get a villa it would beuch easier as then once baby is asleep you can sit out and enjoy a glass of wine and supper. He loved being on holiday and was a superstar on the plane. I'd say go but maybe think about a villa instead of hotel.
Pseudo, sorry for your bad news but as others have said at least knowing now you can have baby monitored from the off and great that consultant was upbeat flowers

Shootingstarsandcomets · 27/09/2013 17:37

Or maybe Thanks for psuedo

JellyCurls · 27/09/2013 17:49

Aaaargh just had an argument with DH over alcohol. He just announced he was going to shop for a bottle of wine to have with dinner tonight. I asked him who would take me to hospital if he gets drunk and his response was " you won't go into labour tonight so why worry" he's probably right but still annoyed. Then he huffed when I said I didn't want him getting drunk till baby arrives, am I being that unreasonable to ask him not to get drunk when I over 39 weeks pregnant?

apperleydapperley · 27/09/2013 17:52

Heffa no i didn't have a scan (but had extra fluid in that preg so don't know why they didn't), but hopefully you're right and you can stay on track for your section Smile. (On another note this time I am def leaking wee after pretty much every loo trip!!! Blush )

We went on hol when DC2 was 10 weeks old (to Mallorca) and it was really easy - I was BF so didn't need to worry about food, he'd had his first lot of immunisations and we had a really nice holiday. Might plan for Feb half-term next year.

Thanks to Pseudo - I echo what others have said, i'm sure all will be fine but nonetheless so worrying for you.

MrsHoratioNelson · 27/09/2013 17:53

Um, no Jelly. How does he know you're not going to go into labour tonight? Confused

Have I missed a name change, r u new to the thread apperly or name changed ?

Pinkforboys · 27/09/2013 18:04

My twopenneth on holiday convo... We travelled to Oz with DS at 6-7mo, he was great- easy when bf, tho agree, the weaning bit was tricky. (Bf helps clear their ears at take off and landing) You really need your own kitchen or take a suitcase full of Ella's pouches. I seem to remember that France has a nice line in horsemeat based babyfood Grin
Travelling at that age is great tho- free ticket and they stay put! Enjoy as much travelling in the first year as possible...

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 18:12

That's good to hear Pink about travelling to Oz. The reason we go to far away destinations is because it's dependant on where we fly to with work, as it's where I get my concessionary travel. I looked into a villa in Bali and that's probably the best idea, seeing as we will both have babies. I'm going to request one of the baby bassinets as well so baby can hopefully probably wishful thinking sleep part of the journey.

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 18:15

Which part of Oz is dh from pink?

MotherOfNations · 27/09/2013 18:20

Hi everyone. I'm still here. Was just really tired lady night and then had pre-op today as they decided they wanted Mr to wait and speak to the pediatrician.

My c-section is happening on Thursday now and not Friday s originally planned. Apparently they think it'll be better for the baby if not done so close to the weekend.

I'm feeling a bit enotional. I've been told for the first time today that Eliana has a very severe case of Tetralogy of Fallot. They also neglected to tell me until now that she will be transferred to Yorkhill sick kids hospital within hours of her birth and will have her first op (presumably the op to open her lungs) within the first week or two.

I don't understand why the change. The cardiologist from Yorkhill told me that she would have minimal intensive care and then I'd have her with me and would have a normal hospital stay. I told the pediatrician that I feel like I'm not being told anything unless I ask the right questions and he said they're not hiding anything from me it's just that they don't know, but they didn't even bother to tell me what they did know until today. I think I'm going to phone the cardiac liason nurse tomorrow and ask her why I wasn't told all this and to make sure it is necessary and not just the hospital I'm delivering at being over cautious.

Congratulations to Gt and Umlauf and hope things progress nicely for char1eston.

I hope you've had a lovely birthday threeblondies.

Apologies to anyone I've forgotten.

Shirehobbit · 27/09/2013 18:23

That's a lot to process, MoN
Big hugs xx

MotherOfNations · 27/09/2013 18:25

Pseudo Not to minimise what you are going through but going on all of the information on heart conditions I've read the last few months a hole in the heart is pretty minor and it may even close on it's own. I understand how worrying it must be. I'll be thinking of you Thanks

MrsHoratioNelson · 27/09/2013 18:25

Oh dear MoN what a nasty shock.

OP posts:
JellyCurls · 27/09/2013 18:32

MoN I am so sorry to hear this but we too have experienced docs changing minds at last minute. If only the Queen Mums was still open you would at least be close by. A lot of info to take in today but do call nurses tomorrow to ask for advice. Sending you big hugs x

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 18:33

Thanks Mon don't know what to say tbh, as always you are a courageous lady and I'm thinking about you. X

ImpOfDarkness · 27/09/2013 18:33

Thanks MoN. Big hugs to you.

FFS, I've just had my second wasted trip to the hospital of the day, after this morning's class was cancelled it turned out that the extra class I was down for this afternoon was an administrative error. Plus I left the garage door wide open Blush. Luckily our bikes were still there when I got back...

Shootingstarsandcomets · 27/09/2013 18:50

Oh mon sending you a big hug and very best wishes for Thursday.
flyer re long haul flights and babies. My friends took their 12 week old to oz and they said it was tiring but really not as bad as you'd think. Breastfeeding helped a lot I think as it does help their ears and is such a comfort for them.
Do you think ds could know something funny is going on? He is so clingy at the moment. Always used to be so easy to put to bed and never cried, now he cries and clings onto me and it breaks my heart to put him to bed sad when he's normally so happy. He's only 13 months but perhaps he senses a change somehow?

Pinkforboys · 27/09/2013 19:02

MoN big hugs. That's a lot to process let alone deal with xxxx

Pinkforboys · 27/09/2013 19:02

Flyer unfortunately DH is from Perth Grin
(I much prefer Sydney...)

roofio87 · 27/09/2013 19:08

mon thinking of you and baby eliana and all your family.

pseudo try not to worry (easier said than done I know!!)
wish I could wave a magic wand and make all this pg and baby stuff easyThanks

Flyer747 · 27/09/2013 19:19

I've never been to Perth pink, always fancied going. Everytime I go to Sydney it rains believe it or not. I like Melbourne, we looked at emigrating their early last year, never amounted to anything though. You not fancy living down under?
