DPs uncle just came over to our house and said I shouldn't be burning scented candles whilst pregnant?! Has anyone heard this before - it seems a little over the top to me! Read some thing about not using scented oils on skin or in the bath but can't see what harm a scented candle can do really?

moominleigh94 · 18/09/2013 19:34

babycenter (is it reliable?) says that green top milk is unpasteurised... but we just looked at the bottle and it says pasteurised. I hate red top milk please don't make me drink it Sad Grin

moominleigh94 · 18/09/2013 19:34

Pretty sure that one's false AliOh - the websites say to use scented candles instead of using scented oils in the bath.

AliOh · 18/09/2013 19:43

Thought so, like I said seems way over the top. Feel like I can't do anything whilst pregnant! Silly really, I know so many people who carried on drinking/smoking whilst pregnant, DP seems very surprised (and slightly jealous) that I've thrown down my lighters and tobacco so easily, funny thing is I don't even miss it!

mumof2aimingfor4 · 18/09/2013 19:43

I know we should avoid lavender in any form, I like the lavender scented rice bags things (alternative to hot water bottle) but cant use it now.

thistlelicker · 18/09/2013 19:51

Hey how's everyone?? Been having a dried blood discharge!! Rang epu they not concerned!!!! Why can't thus just be straight forward!!!!

Sparkles23 · 18/09/2013 20:08

I know certain oils certainly have to be avoided like cinnamon and some other ones (cinnamon food is ok it's just the oil!). I thought lavender was ok, oh god I've been sprinkling the pure neat oil in my bath, on my pillows (love lavender!) It came in my Neals Yard Mother to be/New Mother kit I got as a gift in my last preg so hopefully should be ok! Green top pasteurised milk definitely ok, it must be that unpasteurised come in green tops or something too!

Sparkles23 · 18/09/2013 20:13

Hope you're ok thistle x

moominleigh94 · 18/09/2013 20:14

Hope everything's ok thistle.

I've got a scar from a previous operation right across my tummy, and it's infected and feels like it's trying to pull apart.... but it's been there 18 years, so it's not actually going to come apart is it? Argh what should I do? It hurts Sad

thistlelicker · 18/09/2013 20:24

I'm hoping its remainder of blood from bleed from last week - sorry tmi !!! Very anxious thistle

ThePFJ · 18/09/2013 20:24

moomin Unless you want a late night in A&E - which is an option.... I would treat it with dettol or anything you have in the house, like warm salt water etc.... and get an emergency appointment at the doctors first thing to get it looked at.... you don't want a serious infection while you are pregnant...If it's only just started playing up you should be fine. Don't panic. Relax. Put your feet up tonight and don't do anything to make it worse. xxx

ThePFJ · 18/09/2013 20:26

thistle huggggggggg!!!! Anxious is allowed. As long as its old blood you should be ok.... keep us posted ok?

moominleigh94 · 18/09/2013 20:30

I don't have anything really in the house, just moved in... not even salt which we all forgot to buy last night. I also don't fully register with the doctor until next week when I have to take the forms in. Got a damp cloth on it at the moment and lying really still which is stopping it hurting and pulling, but it's been like this for a couple of days now and it's getting worse. Should I call out of hours or is that over the top?

mumof2aimingfor4 · 18/09/2013 20:32

Sparkles see how contradictory the info is when pregnant! Although I am going back 10 years when carrying DD1 and was told not to use lavender. So things have probably changed! I agree with Lolablu we woild all live in a bubble for 9 months if we listened to every bit of advice!

Chip86 · 18/09/2013 20:42

Oh poor thistle look after yourself

moomin no harm in going to see the doctor

My mum asked if i would be ok with computer at work because when she had me (100 years ago) it was unsafe ahhh times have moved on hehehe well i have given her lots of new things to worry about bless her hehehe

Sparkles23 · 18/09/2013 20:46

It's so contradictory isn't it! And it changes all the time! I do know have to be so careful with essential oils so maybe I'll lay off the lavender just in case!

NannyPlumForPM · 18/09/2013 20:59

moomin that sounds a bit horrible! You have to do what you feel comfortable with but personally I would say that it shouldn't pull apart if it's been an 18 year scar! If it starts getting unbearably sore then I would see the dr but otherwise I would probably leave it until morning. Is it weeping? (sorry if tmi)

thistle old or dried blood is the best kind (if any) to have as it is usually fresh blood that indicates a new problem. I would definitely assume that is the remnants of your last bleed!

Also can't remember who posted it but the babycenter site usually redirects me to a us site- so it could be American info in which case their green top may be unpastirised!

Thanks ladies !!! X

moominleigh94 · 18/09/2013 21:03

Yeah it is NannyPlum.... again, sorry for TMI, but weird white stuff Sad not sure where I can go in the morning though, doctors won't see me until I'm registered and I can't get home to the doctor I'm still registered with now.

NannyPlumForPM · 18/09/2013 21:10

The walk in?

OP posts:
mumof2aimingfor4 · 18/09/2013 21:17

If your not registered at gp yet then you have no choice but to go to a walk in clinic or hospital, surely.

bouncysmiley · 18/09/2013 21:21

Snap loopy I ended up pulling over on my way into work and having to come home. I swear morning sickness wasn't this bad last time around.I feel awful...

shanks313 · 18/09/2013 21:32

Hi everyone.
Come to join in.. I got a BFP last Friday and still trying to get my head round it.
This will be DC3,already have DD 6 and DD 5.
Been getting the sore boobs tiredness .. a little nausea and definitely needing to wee all the time.
Very nervous this time with every little ache etc as had a MC 18 months ago at almost 17 weeks.
Went to see GP yesterday and was put on higher dose of folic acid and booked to see midwife at 8 weeks...seems such a long time to go.
Hope you are all well x
