sorry spamming - the operating system thing could just be a rumour though as I'm not up with tech stuff, (you can also download it probs for whatever phone you have anyway) and only see whats been posted around on social networks etc haha

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2013 19:38

Thanks Grey and Rock. I believe the new one is being announced tomorrow so I'll wait and see what features it offers. You're right, Grey, that the OS will probably be available to 4S users but I still haven't upgraded to iOS6 though I keep meaning to.
In terms of style, I prefer the glass and metal case of the 4S - the 5 looks less pretty to me. Also, if I keep my 4S I can switch to a sim-only deal which should be pretty cheap. I'm currently paying about £45 a month on O2 and that doesn't even include unlimited data. I could get that with 3 but their service here is patchy. DP is with 3 and sometimes he has connection issues.

rescoonetwothree · 09/09/2013 19:45

i think you must be on the same contract i was on lyra - I've also noticed 3 has less coverage so good that your dp has it to test the waters for you haha! if you're looking sim only, i think giffgaff giffgaff.com/ is the cheapest by all accounts!

rescoonetwothree · 09/09/2013 19:45

giffgaff.com/ even

rescoonetwothree · 09/09/2013 19:46

ffs posted too soon, although i don't know about what the connection/service is like!

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2013 19:59

Thanks Grey. I'm going to shop around for a bit before deciding. I saw some good sim-only deals in Carphone Warehouse when I was in there buying DS1's first phone. I'm not too bothered about call time and inclusive texts because I have whatsapp, tango, imessage, facetime etc. All free on wifi. But I do use a lot of data so 1G per month minimum. I frequently ran out before the end of the month before I upgraded from 250mb. Or was it 500mb? Preg-brain...

lumpylumps · 09/09/2013 20:03

I've just bought a pram!!!! icandy apple. 2nd hand £140 it's a bit bigger than I wanted and usually have a no buying before 20weeks rule but it was to much of a bargain.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2013 20:15

Ooh, fab! Where did you get it?

SoSurprised · 09/09/2013 20:27

Sarahb8990 · 09/09/2013 20:29

The main criticism I'd heard about NCT classes is that they are so keen to promote breastfeeding that they were apparently very dismissive of people's questions about formula feeding, in case they had any problems breastfeeding. The general message seemed to be that of course everyone can feed the baby themselves, and if you're having trouble with it you must be doing something wrong... I have a few friends who have done their very best to breastfeed and have been unable to, and have felt a bit of a failure, so I think that while in general it's good to promote it, there should be an acknowledgement that some people do have genuine difficulty. But as someone else said, I'm sure it depends very much on the teacher/leader.

I have quite a few friends who've had babies but none of them live nearby so it would be good to meet other people. I do know quite a few retired people locally though and many of them have experience of both children and grandchildren so I'm hoping they will be useful support!

lumpylumps · 09/09/2013 21:23

It was off a Facebook selling site!

greymoose I got your Facebook link but need to do it at work. I'm on my kindle at home and its faffy!

Rockchick1984 · 09/09/2013 21:40

Giffgaff is part of O2 so if you have good signal with one you'll be fine with the other.

Lumps I love the Icandy Apple, its gorgeous!

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2013 21:49

Just had a long listen to bubs with the doppler. There's a LOT of activity going on in there and I can barely feel any of it. So lovely to hear him Smile

SoSurprised · 09/09/2013 22:03

Did u find out the gender already Lyra? Congrats!

PramQueen1971 · 09/09/2013 22:03

Lumps! I'm totes jel! Envy Well done!

Imeg, I swear if anyone attempted to denigrate my choices re feeding my baby I'd punch them in the fucking mouth. It's all political bullshit.

So, no, just assuming the baby's a he until I know otherwise. I don't like calling unborn babies "it".

faithfulandtruthful · 09/09/2013 22:15

Lyra have you thought about going down the baby centre route and calling baby 'he' one month and 'she' the next!

Funnily enough all my family including my husband refer to baby as 'he' I don't think they have noticed, but I have !! I think it is a boy but I will be happy with either.

Hi guys, you are very chatty! Have been telling work colleagues today, all very exciting.

I am considering the NCT classes now you guys have pointed out you can meet other preggos. We have only lived here 18 months so don't know that many local people. I did pre Natal yoga last time which I really enjoyed, but as I'm unlikely to have a natural birth this time seems a bit pointless. Might give NCT a chance.

I'm so jealous of those who can feel movement. I've not felt anything yet...

Coolhand · 09/09/2013 23:01

There was someone in my thread who had really excellent ante natal classes offered by their NHS trust/hospital. A midwife had done research/produced a report to show that hypnobirthing led to decreased medical interventions and persuaded either her hospital or trust to offer classes for free, the argument being that interventions are so costly it would save money in the long run. No idea where that was.

Like NCT classes, NHS probs vary dramatically and depend a lot on your teacher. Ours were ok last time until the teacher/midwife was demonstrating a birthing model and the baby got stuck in the plastic pelvis - she went on to break the pelvis trying to get baby out - not exactly the reassurance needed for first time mums 4 weeks before birth!

PramQueen1971 · 10/09/2013 00:00

What does hypnobirthing do supposedly? Can it make a baby smaller or a fanny bigger? No? Not interested then Grin

FrankelInFoal · 10/09/2013 07:05

I've found a Lazy Daisy birthing lady who runs a 6 week antenatal course for £54 in my area. That's better flipping value than the "local" (15 miles away) NCT class which is £150 for a 6 week course.

She also does dedicated couples workshops and baby care workshops for numpties like me who have no idea what they're doing Grin Even if we booked all 3 different courses/workshops it would work out cheaper than the NCT classes!

Jolleigh · 10/09/2013 07:37

My 'local' NCT does courses of 5 × 2.5 hour classes. The cheapest rate is £12 an hour, most expensive is £15.40. I'm not entitled to any discount. So that would be in the region of £200 for 5 classes. But apparently that's ok because they offer to pay by installments. Hmm

MummyPig24 · 10/09/2013 07:50

Oh I'm so emotional. Dd goes into school for her settling in today (for an hour and we stay) and she's dressed in her uniform. She looks hilarious, so small and super cute! I can't believe she is growing up so fast. Ds is so excited she is going to his school.

x0gawjus0x · 10/09/2013 07:54

Wish I could feel movement would be reassuring at least :( might buy a doppler.......
