Looks like we need another new thread Blush- we've been rather busy!

Up to date (ish) Stats thread here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1694946-September-2013-STATS-THREAD

As previously- Welcome newbies! If anyone wants to join the Facebook group (better for sharing documents and pictures- especially picture of gorgeous babies), please message myself or jennimoo with your real life name and email address and we can add you to the group!

Bring on the irritating texts from family members and best friends to find out whether you've had your babies or not (like you wouldn't tell them.....), more weird and disgusting labour symptoms, more internal examinations than you can shake a stick at, and LOTS OF BABIES!

jennimoo · 10/09/2013 23:56

Jukiper - With DC1 I was 5/5s palpable just a couple of days before birth so its definitely possible. If you're worried it might be labour just call and speak to someone. If you're meant to go in right away I'm sure they won't mind. Good luck.

Mooster1709 · 11/09/2013 02:24

Good luck peregrin - sounds stressful, but hopefully your dh will get back in time. Remember paracetamol - it helped me a bit in the early stages.

I had the injection and the Pulling/rubbing was really fine, and pretty minimal - the midwife just did an occasional gentle tug to see if it was ready and then when it was just gently 'encouraged' it out. Writing it down it sounds worse than it was-I hardly noticed any of it.

fl0b0t · 11/09/2013 05:30

Agreed about the pulling and ribbing being fine. .. I had just pushed an 8lb baby out on gas and air. .. there wasn't much more could shock me at this point! !!!

Today has been a long day but got a shower and fed which all helped. Our little man is amazing but still struggling to feed. Lots of helpful midwives doing their best to give us lots of options and he managed to latch on for about 4 mins this morning which is a huge improvement. I hands expressed about three teaspoons this feed too so no more formula on this feed :) so pleased. Let's hope he is getting it!

:)
I've even had a little sleep between feeding schedule and already had at least double nights sleep. Not sure they will let me home till we sorty feeding. In feeling much more capable than yesterday when I couldn't even get our of bed to pick him up myself! learning to call midwives for little things. ... couldn't get into my cereal this morning.

Hosp foods surprisingly ok but a bit short supply so snacks needed. I can't reach my cereal bars or Choc buttons but having a lovely cuddle so happy to be hungry!

Surprisingly easy to miss stuff. .. medicine trolly this evening. Every muscle in my body is stiff from pushing including neck and arns madly but missed my last lots of paracetamol.

Good luck to those waiting. ... what an experience this all is! :)

I had the injection to deliver the placenta both times. There may have been tugging but there was definitely no rubbing! I can't even remember delivering it the first time but do remember pushing to deliver it this time

Apparently with an induction they prefer that you have the injection.

RunningBear78 · 11/09/2013 07:10

Good luck dorita and peregrin - hope your dh makes it home in time.

Congratulations fl0, and well done on a gas and air delivery! I hope recovery and feeding goes well (and you can start reaching food soon) and get home asap.

Can't wait for my little bear to arrive, both super nervous and excited at the same time.

PurplePoppySeed · 11/09/2013 07:46

Thanks for all the 3rd stage experiences everyone, it's the bit ppl don't talk abt and for some reason it's been worrying me! Maybe it's just that worry abt things going wrong at a home birth, don't know. Fingers crossed I barely notice it too!

Juniper - I've been getting all sorts of different pains, aches & cramps for the last week + yesterday felt like the day my period is due, yet still nothing! Def worth checking with the MW though, I have been just in case!

TripleRock · 11/09/2013 08:07

YY to various twinges, cramps and periody type pains all coming to nothing.

Also can barely walk due to John Wayne style gait and pressure low down. What's going on, I thought 2nd babies didn't engage until start of labour but I've been like this on and off for days!

Today is DDs nursery day, so really looking to a quiet day. Plus new washing machine is being delivered after 10 days without, thank goodness. I suppose I shouldn't wish baby here until the backlog of washing is cleared...

Manoodledo · 11/09/2013 10:34

Can I just ask, who went for a sweep and was it worth it? I'm now 40 + 9(!), due for induction on Sunday. I declined a sweep last week but now I'm reconsidering, but I am a wuss and also feel the less footling around in there the better. This is probably partly due to the fact that with my previous two births it wasn't even necessary to have an internal. I have a really sore lower back today, but otherwise no symptoms. It doesn't help that I had a visit from a friend last night who works in neo-natal in a different district which doesn't allow people to go past 10 days over and she was slightly shocked my induction was booked for +13. Has panicked me a bit. Why are the guidelines so varied?

On the subject of the injection, I will definitely be having it. Had it twice before and there wasn't any pulling or rubbing required at all.

kimjayne · 11/09/2013 11:11

manoodledo- im 40 + 7 today and booked for induction at 40 + 13. I am feeling very much the same about the varied rules for different districts. Concerned this kids gonna be bigger than me when he finally arrives Shock
Two midwives have attempted to perform a sweep on me over the last week unsuccessfully. For whats its worth, they werent too bad! So I would definitely recommend giving it a go. My cervix is still too posterior for the sweep to work properly Sad but Ive been offered another try on Monday and I think I will definitely go ahead with it. id much prefer a sweep than a drug induction! I really dont want to scupper my chances of a water birth ideally.

CheeseStrawCraving · 11/09/2013 13:12

michaelcaine have ou it anything else ou can shove, surely you need your mobile to chat to us?

Manoodledo · 11/09/2013 13:17

kimjayne thanks for that. Maybe I will give a sweep ago. It would be worth at least finding out if my cervix is remotely favourable. I've just been out to try and get some castor oil. Thought it was worth a try. Turns out you can't get it in chemists any more! Maybe that's a blessing in disguise though. I'm wondering too about the size of the baby. So far it's been measured as average, which, if that's the case, means it'll be way bigger than my other two who were/are tiddlers. Eek!

Peregrin · 11/09/2013 14:04

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Thankfully we are still in one piece. DH arriving on the last train tonight.

Kittenkatzen · 11/09/2013 14:34

Goodness, I've been rubbish at keeping up with the thread.....I blame all the gorgeous baby pics on fb that keep distracting me!

Finding all the talk of 3rd stage really interesting and helpful so thanks for that ladies. I've had a vague notion of declining the injection in the spirit of keeping things as natural as possible, but having read this I think I'll be keeping a much more open mind - I'll hopefully be in a birthing centre an ambulance ride away from the nearest hospital so if there is any placenta retained I'm guessing it'll be a much bigger deal from there, so maybe giving it a helping hand isn't such a bad idea after all.

badguider · 11/09/2013 15:15

I was hoping for a natural third stage but they had to check little Mr as there was meconium in the pool.
DH cut the cord while i still had my eyes shut, then I remember saying "ouch" at the injection!! :) :) - seriously? After pushing out a baby on gas and air???

Then they said I'd have to push it out but the push required was hardly more than going for a pee and it all came.
Before I knew it DS was back on my chest and it was all over.

Joskar · 11/09/2013 16:56

I had a sweep this morning. It was a bit sore but not that bad. My cervix is very posterior and so nothing doing. Even though I knew in myself that it wasn't time I'd sort of psyched myself up for it so I'm feeling all low and disappointed now.

Have been forced to eat a Snickers, a vanilla slice, two choc chip biscuits and a small packet of mini-cheddars washed down with a can of lemonade in an effort to cheer myself up. Can you give the bairn diabetes in the last few weeks in the womb?!

kimjayne and Manoodledo my SIL was 40+13 when she was induced (at Stirling hospital) and her LO was 7 12. I don't think it necessarily gets any bigger after a certain point. SILs first baby was well over 9 so she was expecting to have another whopper.

badguider · 11/09/2013 20:43

TMI alert - I think I might have a small 'pile'... will it go away by itself? Or do I need the stuff from the chemist? Is the stuff from the chemist worth getting anyway?
It's not causing lot of problems but makes needing the toilet a bit uncomfortable. I think it bleeds a little bit but as I still have lochia I can't tell for sure.

Manoodledo · 11/09/2013 20:44

Boo! Sorry to hear that Joskar! I'm such a wimp, I didn't call the midwife about a sweep after all. I get the impression that it isn't that painful when your cervix isn't ready 'cos they can't really do it. Oh well, back to being a sex pest, poor DHWink.

I was also wondering if it's too late to give myself GD as I've fair been going at it with the biscuits in the past few days.

SaltySeaBird · 11/09/2013 20:46

Just crashing by to wish all the September Mummies good luck. This time last year I was in labour, I can't believe how fast time has gone. My amazing DD is one this week!

I'm jealous of you all with your newborns and maternity leave. Enjoy it!

I'm currently TTC#2 ;)

Joskar · 11/09/2013 22:47

badguider Mine have all gone away by themselves. Lots of figs (fresh, dried and in biscuit form) and plenty fluids and wet wipes (or wet loo paper) rather than dry paper.

It's all glamour in pregnancy ain't it?!

Mooster1709 · 12/09/2013 00:40

badguider mine went away on their own too, after about 8 days (or at least I think it was a pile, never had one before, and didn't want to investigate too thoroughly!)

SGJ · 12/09/2013 01:37

Badguider - bowel issues run in my family so I often get fissures (bleeding) and have had Hemorrhoids in both pregnancies (or 'Roy', as he's affectionately known) and though not troublesome, if it's causing you some stinging when using the loo then Germoloid cream or ointment is your best bet. It numbs the area and shrinks the pile. You can get Germoloid wipes as well which are good.

fl0b0t · 12/09/2013 01:50

Hi all. Good third stage chat. At home cuddling Robin in bed as he won't settle in moses basket. No idea but halt with a cuddle. Due next feed after first epically shite home feed (ended up spooning in hand expressed colostrum formula top up after failbto latch on for morethan a couple of mins over an hour then HUGE meconium and pissing up himself). He had been dieting a few feeding cues so will try nappy change then Boob first, then hand express then formula. Really want to bf and really thought we had it this morning but he has gone back to latches for a few moments then either falls asleep or loses it. Supply good (leaking all over his cuddle).

Thanks SaltySeaBird !

Mooster1709 · 12/09/2013 03:43

fl0, my LO only stayed on for 5 mis at a time maximum for the first few days and then fell asleep. The mw didn't seem worried though and she actually gained weight by her 3 day check. Slowly she started staying on longer. Blowing on her face used to wake her a bit and get an extra minute sometimes.

RunningBear78 · 12/09/2013 04:33

I'm so bored of being awake for no reason in the middle of the night :(
