Just Shagging Grads, here is your shiny new Fred!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The last thread saw plenty of births and we've got loads of new Grads to add to the mix. Bring on the TMI posts, the midnight moans, the birthwatches and the pom poms!

Our stats thread is here, so if you find us, please add your stats too.

There is also a Just Mumming thread for grads of the grads thread

And if you want to find out what Just Shagging is about or catch up with the undergrads go say hello to the Just Shaggers here, now on the 17th thread.

It was only one old (suspicious) work friend and she pm-ed me so I confirmed!! Bit paranoid others will be thinking same though - esp ginger nut girl!

RPopz · 28/05/2014 20:17

Slightly freaked out how many people seem to know now though...

DulcetMoans · 28/05/2014 20:17

Evidence is stacking up popz! If you are sick in a meeting then you're outted completely!

You all have much better snacks than me...

wilhelminand · 28/05/2014 20:35

I'm getting really confused which thread I'm on. Too much talk of food!

I keep nearly slipping up at work. I think it's virtually impossible to make it to 3 months these days without people finding out, especially at work. That's where I was outed last time. So far no one knows but am sure it won't last long.

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 20:48

I kind of disagree with Wil (sorry!).

I wouldn't buy newborn, I'd buy 'up to 1 month' as it's slightly bigger, and you have a large baby like me (9lbs 7oz!) newborn won't fit, but up to 1 month will.

We also didn't get huge volumes of stuff bought for us, so were glad of the babygrows and vests we'd bought. I'd agree not to buy daytime clothes though as a) you get quite a few and b) you may not feel like dressing them much, so they're a waste of money (I have so many barely used / unused clothes from DD).

For a cheap, new, cotbed, look at Kiddicare. Their basic one is about £60-£70 quid and is fine (emergency purchase when our secondhand one failed to materialise). We did spend £99 on a mattress though.

Tip: download the Mothercare app onto an iPhone / iPad and you'll get a £10 discount off £50 spend (or you used to).

Muslins are very very handy. We also use terry towelling on the changing mat for those wees that escape straight after taking the nappy off! Tesco do 6 for about £7.

You can never have too many bibs.

That's all my tips for now!

Dulcet, what time is your scan tomorrow? Good luck!

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 20:50

Best way to get to 3 months un-outed is to still be on mat leave when you get upduffed! :-))

wilhelminand · 28/05/2014 21:12

Haha good point Horace! Yes, you're probably right about 'up to 1 month' size, I actually forgot that existed. Although usually you have a fairly good idea of if baby will be big or not before it comes along. Mine was 7lb 6oz and was in 'newborn' for about 3-4 weeks. And YES to muslins, hundreds of them. But do not buy from mothercare as they are about a million pounds in there.

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 21:22

You have to pick and choose what to get from Mothercare! Some stuff is good value, most stuff isn't!

Nobody guessed DD would be heavy. I was palpated by 3 different midwives close to my due date and they all agreed tall, but not heavy (she's slender but solid!).

Most of our muslins are from Asda. :-)

DulcetMoans · 28/05/2014 21:25

Check out all the handy tips!! I'm thinking no buying anything until 12 weeks but will see if i can resist the baby aisle.

I'm doing some planning at the moment and been looking at 2015/2016 academic year (I work in education). Trying to steer decisions to fit my year off! Grin

Scan is 1100 horace. Excited actually. So hopeful it's all looking ok. Will update you all I course!

RPopz · 28/05/2014 21:28

Same Dulcet - not going near the shops til after 12 week scan! Which feels like forever away!!!!

Eeek so exciting, you won't be able to sleep tonight Grin

Nessalina · 28/05/2014 21:29

Random pant action has been par for the course around here Rpopz! Even if there is a little blood it's pretty usual. I only freak out for LOTS of blood, and even that was ok, so I reckon you're good Smile
I've only been taking frolic acid and vit D up til now, but Pregnacare was on 3 for 2 in super drug today and as the nausea has stopped I reckon I can give the big fat tablets a go again (they made me yacky before)!
Oh god, the thought of buying STUFF for the baby brings me out in cold sweats Confused Is a crib and a cot a different thing? Do I need a travel system? It's all so complicated!!!
My bump is starting to firm up... It's weeeeird Confused

Nessalina · 28/05/2014 21:29

Ooh good luck for your scan Dulcet! Grin

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 21:41

A crib is smaller than a cot, which is in turn smaller than a cot bed.

Do you travel much by car? Would you like the convenience of being able to take the car seat out and put it on a pram base? If so, you'll want a travel system (though remember the 2 hour max limit for baby to be in the car seat).

I took Sainsbury's pregnancy vits initially (Pregnacare doesn't agree with me) then moved onto the Healthy Start ones once they'd run out. I like to take zinc in early pregnancy.

Dulcet, at least your scan is in the morning. My 20 week was at 2.30 or something. Far too late to stay sane waiting!

JuniDD · 28/05/2014 21:54

Evening all!
I was taking Pregnacare conception and now I'm taking Pregnacare...pregnant? They also do a fish oil which I try to take every other day although it repeats on me really badly. My mum is obsessed with fish oil "for brain development"! Of course, we all managed to be born ok without all these supplements. Wink.

The buggy thing really messes with my head so I'm not thinking about it for a while longer. I had a quick look at nappies today though! And I'm thinking about clothes for the baby etc. I also just emailed the Nappy Lady my questionnaire to get some advice...getting excited now, so hope all is ok at the scan next week.

I told work via email this week but I've not been in so doubt anyone's guessed from afar. No one has said anything, anyway. It'll be obvious when I go back though as my bump now sticks out beyond my boobs (not by much) so the "drapey" tops won't be doing much for that anymore.

Good luck for tomorrow dulcet

Oh, the extra pant snot has a special name! Leucorrhea I believe. Can't remember why but I've been reading Ina May Gaskin and she says women often get even more "juicy" before going into labour. Not sure I like the sound of THAT, it was so gross it stuck in my mind!

FurryScoob · 28/05/2014 21:58

Good luck tomorrow dulcet
Where's minion did she have a scan this week too or am I getting mixed up?

I'm so glad some of you ladies have done all this before & can explain what you really need to buy, who knew such a small person could need so much stuff!
We've decided which pushchair travel system thing to get but were not buying anything yet spare rooms still full of crap

wilhelminand · 28/05/2014 21:59

Eeek good luck Dulcet, mucho excitement.

I think I was about 7/8 months before I agreed to buy anything last time. Very nearly didn't have the pram in time. Yes Nessa crib is so baby can sleep in your room for 6 months nobody does it for 6 months because babies are bloody noisy.
Of course you could co-sleep and not bother.

I'm thinking of getting a sling this time to have hands free for toddler. Did you have one Horace? God this question is so blooming premature coming from someone who is only 6 weeks upduffed.

wilhelminand · 28/05/2014 22:02

I think Min said her scan was in 2 weeks...but that might have been last week.

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 22:03

Not a sling, but a carrier. Didn't yes it much though.

I've already bought a Moby wrap for this time...I figure strapping baby to me will make it easier for me to deal with DD at the same time. Still scared of how I will deal with 2 at once!!

We managed 4.5 months before DD outgrew her bednest. I cried the first night she was in her own room!

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 22:05

6 weeks, Wil? That really sounds like forever ago...I'm 30 tomorrow!

wilhelminand · 28/05/2014 22:12

I'm so jealous Horace. I'd love to be that stage already. Don't want to wish 9 months away but it's a bloody long time! Let me know how the Moby works out for you.

HungryHorace · 28/05/2014 22:25

I will do. :-)

And I can empathise there. Pregnancy feels very long and drawn out!

DulcetMoans · 29/05/2014 07:08

Day off, wake up early obviously! Can't get back to sleep now - DH snoring away next to me. (Not actual snoring, he's good like that - for now!)

I fancy a sling too, hands free!

RPopz · 29/05/2014 08:41

Good luck today Dulce! It'll be lovely to see the bean Grin

DulcetMoans · 29/05/2014 13:02

All done and all good. Measuring behind as expected but won't change the saying until 12 weeks. Probably wasnt entitled to scan but they offered i! Lady was lovely about it all.

Anyway, saw heartbeat and lady said that 96% chance of taking baby home once it gets to stage of having heartbeat. I liked that stat!

wilhelminand · 29/05/2014 14:01

I meant to write that stat for you this morning Dulcet as read it in my book last night, but didn't have time. So glad it all went well.

God my boobs hurt.
