thanks holly nom and ccsays
Baby Rose is a....... GIRL!!! I can't believe it, totally thought it was a boy. but we are over the moon.
I've always loved Zoe or Zoey for a girl. My first language is french so it goes really well in both languages. the issue is that I made the big mistake to tell that to my MIL like 4 years ago and she totally remembers and we don't want people to know the name before the birth. arg me and my big mouth.

anyways, just a question - for the 20 weeks scan, they didn't do any blood pressure test, blood test, or anything - just the scan. was that the same for everyone else? then I was told I need to take an appointment with my GP for week 25, and with the MW for week 28 or 29 or something. I find that odd - is that normal?

QueenofWhispers · 10/08/2013 08:53

They always make me pee. All the time. 'Please pee in this tiny vial' and they always take my bp...

although, I was told I didn't need to see my consultant until 28 weeks at my 20 week appointment, but then she called me in yesterday to see me at 24 weeks...so it must have been my mistake.

MildredH · 10/08/2013 09:19

Congrats Rose- welcome to team pink! We were exactly the same- convinced she was a he til that scan!

Me and DH have found out but are keeping it to ourselves.. Is that an option to get out of the name situation?

I had scan only at 20 wks and have booked in for midwife at 24 wks this wk for check up. Our mat notes have a timeline of when you should be seen- which is handy as we can never remember what they've said!!

MildredH · 10/08/2013 09:21

Ps- Queen glad I'm not the only one who struggles with the teeny pee pots.. I panic if asked to do one on the spot. Usually like to pee into a plastic cup then decant. Trying to aim into that 1cm wide tube just ends up with pee everywhere! Confused

MrsShrubs · 10/08/2013 09:36

Congratulations roselau on your little girl.
I was told at my 16 week MW appointment to make another one with her at my GPs at week 24 so I think it's normal. Also no bloods, no urine test no blood pressure at my scan (and also no weighing yay!!). I think the 20 week scan is just all about making sure baby is developing properly and then all your MW appointments are double checking you are okay, no sign of diabetes developing or UTI and blood pressure etc.

Chilli81 · 10/08/2013 10:02

congratulations roselau. glad there's some of you having girls out there otherwise we might well become extinct with just boys.
I've been a bit quiet as we have all been struck by the vomiting bug this week. I was finally struck down yesterday. Grim! from all I've read online baby should be ok as it just takes everything it needs from me.
hetsto glad they did the procedure do quickly. Hopefully will be a bit less stressful from now on.

itsliz · 10/08/2013 10:29

Congratulations on your little girl, Roselau! At my last midwife appointment I was booked in for 25 and 28 week appointments so it looks like it's standard procedure. Haven't had my 20 week scan yet so I can't compare notes on that one I'm afraid...
Is anyone else still counting down the days to their 29 week scan?! It feels like I'm the last one left here!

And Mildred, you're not the only one who's glad of the timeline - I'm so bad at remembering appointments that I actually turned up at the wrong surgery once! Blush

Hope you all feel better soon, Chilli Smile

And best of luck with the party preparations, Queen. I'm loving the sound of the dinosaur theme!

Alyssa1978 · 10/08/2013 10:31

frouby a strimmer and rake that made me laugh out loud for sooooo long, dp was staring at me like I was mad Grin

Congrats on all the healthy scans and your pink or blue babies.

When I had my 20 week scan I only had the scan and an appt with the mw next week at 24 weeks but then I've got my growth scans every 4 weeks after that.

When I need to give a sample I put the little pot directly over the little part where my wee comes out (sorry mind gone blank and can't remember what it's called) Blush normally have no spillage, it is however to difficult now as I can't see down there, bump too big x

mumoftwoboysS · 10/08/2013 13:17

Congrats on your scan and finding out Rose I think it's a lovely idea to find out with a piece of paper over dinner! Makes me wish I'd found out now!

My next appointment is @ 28 weeks. Nothing between my scan and then- maybe because its my 3rd?? They just don't care! That's 8 weeks away!

That's rubbish chilli hope you're better soon if not already. Stomach bugs are horrid Sad

LadyMedea · 10/08/2013 14:03

NHS standard antenatal care appointments are given here. Really useful page as let's you know what should be happening.

merr · 10/08/2013 20:15

Queen, my son was 5 on the 6th, but I had his pirate picnic party before school broke up for lazy/easy reasons!

Rose, congrats on joining team pink , I also love Zoe and you get to play them that lovely Lenny Kravitz song. Last time I saw the midwife she said it was just 20 week scan and 28 week app coming up for me, as its my 2nd.

Itsliz - My20 weeks scans next Friday, I've got myself really wound up that somethings wrong now, not helping that i've put on almost 2 stone......

PistachioTruffle · 10/08/2013 21:07

Hetsto, great news that not only have they done something for your twins, but they did it so quickly for you too! Congratulations on your little girls, and here's to a smooth remainder of your pregnancy Flowers

Roselau, congratulations on your little girl too!

We are going to b and q to get tester pots for the nursery tomorrow, I'm ridiculously excited.

Thinking back to the first couple of threads, there's a few people I haven't seen pop up for a while, I hope they are ok.

13loki · 11/08/2013 06:24

We started stripping the wood chip wallpaper in the baby's room pretty much as soon as we moved in in the middle of June. After 7 weeks of holiday, we have nearly finished stripping the room. The we need to fix the holes and paint. At this rate, it will be done by the time the baby moves out! DD said that the room should be blue and pink and purple and orange and green. I think it will be very light grey with different coloured frames with IKEA postcards of elephant and owl pictures in them.

Getting an exercise ball to replace my chair at work. I keep getting halfway up the stairs and forgetting there is a lift I should take. And being training days, we have been spending hours on the lunch room chairs, which are not comfortable.

Hope everything is well

Roselau · 11/08/2013 07:51

Thanks all. Glad to hear that it was just supposed to be a scan, although I do find that weird to go that long without checking bp or weight or urine. anyways, I guess I'll just go with the flow.

mum I think for a second / third one maybe I wouldn't find out. It's just for my first one, there are so many unknowns already that I needed a bit of certainty.

itsliz I know it's freaky to wait for your scan - especially because you're due at the end of the month and it seems that everyone's had it already. but I'm sure everything will go well. keep us posted!!!

hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

froubylou · 11/08/2013 09:12

Morning all

I'd like to point out that the 'good idea' I had of leaving my fanjo fluff to grow to avoid ingrowing hairs was a bad one.

On the plus side I haven't had any ingrowing hairs.

On the negative side I didn't realise just how much fanjo fluff I had until I had a look last night in the mirror. Twas indeed a forest as DP had so nicely pointed out.

So I set about it with DP's hair clippers. How hard can it be I thought.

Fecking hard is the answer. First of all I couldn't see anything at all if I looked down apart from some boobies and a bump. So had to rely on mirror. Mirror was fine for front of it but had to sort of cock my leg a bit and angle mirror back to get to underneath bit. And visabilty was still poor, plus the wrong way around due to mirror image. It also kept steaming up for some unknown reason. Didn't think fanjos could breath!

Cut myself twice. Feck. That hurt.

And still had to resort to a good old fashioned razor to get to underneath bits on one side as I was too scared to use trimmers after nicking my undercarriage.

So the upshot is that I now have a neatly (ish I think) shaven ladygarden. The bad news is I am waiting for the ingrowing hairs to arrive.

So the moral of the story is I think to try and keep on top of your ladygardens if at all possible. Because if you leave it like I have done you have to be prepared to leave it until the bitter end.

I was slighlty cheered to note though that my natural hair colour must be a really dark blonde as I thought. Its been that long since I was natrual both upstairs and down I had no 'base' colour to work on.

That is all this morning. If I'm not around for a few days I'm trying to pop ingrowing hairs.

MildredH · 11/08/2013 09:26

Haha frouby that's hilarious!! I've gone for the ignorance is bliss method! What I can't see isn't a problem, and I avoid mirrors when in the buff.

Am working up to going for a wax- sometime as I'm not delivering with everyone down there looking at an overgrown jungle!! Shock

PistachioTruffle · 11/08/2013 10:12

Haha Frouby! I was trying to give myself a little trim the other day and nicked myself with the scissors as I couldn't see, no method is foolproof, clearly! Grin

MrsShrubs · 11/08/2013 11:29

That's brilliant frouby!!

OH is now able to feel little boy kicking away, so happy!!

itsliz · 11/08/2013 19:12

Haha, now THAT'S what I call determination frouby!

merr, it's good to know I'm not the only one still waiting! I was given the option of having my scan on Friday too but ended up going for the following Monday (19th) since I'll be 21 weeks by then, so hoping there might be a bit more to see...!
Kind of wish I'd chosen Friday instead because I'm getting impatient!
Hope your scan goes well though, let us know how it goes won't you?

And thanks so much for the kind words Roselau Smile I really hope you're right! Either way, I'll be sure to keep you all posted.

MollySJ · 11/08/2013 20:25

Eeeeps! DON'T go for a wax when heavily preg! I speak from experience (preg with DS 37 weeks, thought I'd get 'tidied up' in preparation for labour/birth.....)
Easily the MOST painful thing ever - beautician said its to do with increased blood flow etc- not til afterwards mind (bitch!)

QueenofWhispers · 11/08/2013 21:03

I have to keep on top of the waxing or else I get uncomfortable...I am the hairiest person ever. blah.

froubylou · 11/08/2013 21:14

Fook waxing my flue lol. Had my eyebrows done once. That was enough for me lol.

Roselau · 12/08/2013 08:00

bleh monday.

yogafan · 12/08/2013 09:08

Had to pop in and add to the hair removal chat - I had to get DP to help trim down there when preg with DD. Haven't quite got to that stage yet, but almost...

Also, I had a wax pre birth - yup, very painful even though I've been waxing for years. BUT the worst thing was the rash I got post birth - so so so so soooo itchy. Gave me more misery than the stitches. It was June though, so maybe the heat made it worse - hopefully it will be different for December births...

QueenofWhispers · 12/08/2013 09:24

speaking of waxing, I want my husband to have a back, sack and crack. I feel like he doesn't appreciate the things I do for our relationship.
