Oops, sorry about the super-long post!

Holly1977 · 09/08/2013 16:14

Sorry, I missed your post Hetsto. That's fantastic news, so glad it went well. I've got everything crossed that your girls keep on doing well. And huge congrats on being so calm Smile

hetsto · 09/08/2013 16:28

Thank you Holly1977! I think we crossed posts. The little kicks are lovely once you know what they are, eh?

Holly1977 · 09/08/2013 16:32

Yeah, thinking they were just pains / discomfort isn't half as nice as thinking "oooh, that's my daughter moving around practising her yoga moves that is" !!! Grin

So how did the surgeon actually do the operation then? Sorry, I'm just being blatantly nosy!

hetsto · 09/08/2013 16:47

No worries Holly1977; it's quite interesting once you get over the potential horror!

They gave me lots of pain killers and a local anaesthetic, then inserted a tube through which they poked a camera and a laser. Then he just used the camera to look at what was going on an laser-ed the blood vessels they wanted to sever between the babies. He then used another tube to drain some of the fluid from our biggest girl, removed the tube and stuck a plaster over the insertion. It was properly scary but also kind of fascinating, and amazing that we were able to watch what he was doing on the screen as well.

hetsto what an adventure! so happy to hear your little girls are hanging in there. I'm impressed by the treatment you're getting and how quickly things get addressed. it must feel so comforting to know that you're in good hands (although still freaky I'm sure).

on a side note I should start getting commission from cowshed - i've sent so many people there haha :)

MrsShrubs · 09/08/2013 17:12

glad everything went well today hetsto fingers crossed it continues and the up side is you're able to see your little girls so often you'll know them so well by the time they arrive! Will be keeping everything crossed for all of you!

DaleyBump · 09/08/2013 18:07

Thanks holly! :)

Glad it went well hetsto sounds scary!

In need of some advice. I've been experiencing decreased movement over the past week or so. I've been checked out and scanned and baby is fine, and yesterday he was wriggling about like normal but today again he's slowed down. I was scanned yesterday so I know he's fine but it's so, so worrying when he doesn't move for a while. Should I just wait it out and see what happens over the next few weeks? Because I've been checked over and there's no reason for him being slow, and I do feel him during the day, just not as much... I can actually feel him kicking my bowel right now which is uncomfortable but at least he's moving. I just don't really to know what to do about it. I'm probably just being overdramatic, please feel free to kick me up the arse!

NomDeClavier · 09/08/2013 18:47

Babies in utero have sleep/wake cycles just like we do. Eventually you'll get to know the pattern of your baby's movements. Also the position you're in, the baby's in relative to you and the placenta etc - all these things make a big difference. When you say decreased do you mean you get nothing or the movements feel faint?

hesto that sounds properly scary but wonderful at the same time. Technology is just so amazing these days.

rose have a lovely dinner tonight!

itsliz don't worry about eating the wrong thing too much. I alternate between a great diet and a crap diet - I just watch quantities. Takeout pizza and burgers are fairly standard fare on days I can't be arsed, and one week I just craved burgers so had 2 for dinner about 3 times that week. The place no knows DH by name Shock oh and we're having pizza tonight, but I've been eating salad every meal all week with PiLs!

I'm not nesting. I never did with DS either and we live in quarters so I can't do anything to the nursery. I'll just content myself with buying a new crib and refurbishing my beloved carriage pram.

DaleyBump · 09/08/2013 19:04

Sometimes they're faint but I can get nothing for hours and hours and then I start to panic. They dopplered me at the hospital and you can hear him kicking away but I just can't feel it sometimes. Other times he'll have hours where he'll go mental and my belly will jump about all over the place. My placenta is at the back and high up, so the MW said that it shouldn't really interfere at all. Thanks for the information Nom :)

MrsShrubs · 09/08/2013 19:21

Daley I really wouldn't worry too much but what always makes baby boy kick about for me is sweet things, fruit juice etc or like I've just had a drumstick lollipop (old school I know) and within 10 mins he's been kicking all over the place! Other than that he's just done a couple of flutters here and there today.

NomDeClavier · 09/08/2013 19:30

Think of your placenta as a big cushion. A baby on their back cradled in your pelvis will be kicking pretty much into it, and your pelvis will mask the pressure from their head and bottom - soon you'll be able to tell pretty much where baby is lying and work out where you should be feeling kicks/punches. As you get to know your baby's rhythm you'll know when to worry, but lying down and having down thing cold or sweet should trigger some movement.

Thank you so much, really appreciate the reassurance :) feel like such a numpty!

Welcome LateBear!! :)

MrsShrubs · 09/08/2013 20:13

Welcome latebear !!

mumoftwoboysS · 09/08/2013 20:28

I know how you're feeling Daley today and yesterday going through a quieter phase with mine- was getting some big kicks and now it's back to very faint movements. I guess baby is also still small enough to move around quite a lot and as Nom says they could be facing the other way and kicking other parts that aren't as sensitive. I'm pretty sure mine is kicking my cervix area atm as I'm getting some strange feelings but don't feel like big kicks!

I'm sure in a few weeks the kicks will be stronger and we'll all feel more reassured (well those of us who are closer to 19/20 weeks anyway)

DaleyBump · 09/08/2013 20:42

I know what you mean mum :) I'm 24 weeks tomorrow (oh my god oh my god) and I'm just petrified something is going to go wrong and we're going to end up without a baby.

LateBear · 09/08/2013 20:51

Thanks guys :) I'm 21 weeks, kicks are intermittent so far and I think I'm getting better at identifying them, seems to be more activity in the evenings.

ccsays · 09/08/2013 21:44

Gosh, this thread moves fast! Thanks for all the well wishes, scan went fine, all looked ok apparently. I then had a look at my scan print out which said image quality: poor, reasons: baby position, BMI. My bmi was about 28 when I got pregnant and it just sent me off on a bit of a spiral seeing that, been feeling a bit teary Sad Should probably just be celebrating healthy baby, but that put a bit of a dampener on it, tbh.

Congrats on all the other good scans, hope you've had a lovely dinner tonight roselau

Aaw, thank you harry, that really does make me feel a bit better Smile Just left the scan feeling a bit guff and teary, but thank you for your kind words.

hetsto
That all sounds very frightening and fascinating. It must be quite a shock for you all.
I'm sure your little one will catch up with her big sister soon!

I'm glad everyone's scans have gone well too!

I'm v jealous of the knitters,I wish I could knit!

froubylou · 10/08/2013 07:08

Morning all

Hetso that sounds terrifying for you all, but how fabulous is it that they can basically perform an operation on your babies whilst they are still safe and sound inside! Twins are very, very special but carry there own set of risks but I am sure that this will be your 'big scare' with them and you will have a normal labour from now on. At least you are getting lots of monitoring so will be reassured at every stage. My DD has 3!! lots of identical twins in her class, all perfect little 9 year olds and very special for being twins.

Daley I suffered with ingrowing hairs for the first 12 or so weeks. My solution was to not bloody do the bikini line. However it hasn't been done now for about 10 weeks and its like a forest down there pmsl. DP commented last night that the baby will have to come out with a strimmer in one hand and a rake in the other to get through all the fluff. So think it's perhaps time to take action lol. What DP doesn't know is I have his hair trimmers on charge this morning! No way am I giving it a 'close' shave, it can have a short, back and sides!

Went to my sisters yesterday to pick up the stuff she has for me for baby. Dear lord. Bags and bags and bags of clothes. Was a bit gutted by it all to begin with as shopping for clothes is half the fun but luckily she gave a away 2 big bags to charity of her 0-3 months stuff so just have a dozen or so vests and babygro's and a couple of outfits. So can justify some more. But when he goes up into 3-6 months he will need very little!

I also have the moses basket and stand, a bath, changing mat, baby gym thing and a bit of moses basket bedding! And as soon as her little boy goes into his cot bed, the cot! And my other sister has offered me her pram, subject to her in laws not being arsey about it. Is a silvercross one with carrycot and car seat but her little one can now climb out of the pram part and she also finds it too heavy for the back of the car so she's looking at getting a smaller, lighter pushchair which she can see into better to stop her DD doing the Great Escape whilst she's on the school run.

So not much really left to buy!

And now we know its definatly a boy we have decided on a name and I think it is going to stick. Sebastian David. Seb for short.

DP hated Sebastian to begin with but it's grown on him and Seb sounds just right I think!

QueenofWhispers · 10/08/2013 08:06

I had an appointment yesterday, it went fine. To be honest, I thought I didn't have one again till 28 weeks, but apparently I did. Thank goodness they called to let me know I even had an appointment. I'm such a flake!

So, I have to organise Ds's 5th birthday party today. I was going to make lovely little dinosaur invitations but don't have the time. I may just text everyone an invitation and then make invitations just for the families with children? Invitations are a dying trend, but it's my only real 'skill'.

ahh! now I have to find a green dinosaur cake from somewhere. blah.
