Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MightBeMad · 25/07/2013 13:55

Congratulations phie! That was quick!

Silver15 · 25/07/2013 13:56

Congratulations Phie.

cheekbyjowl · 25/07/2013 15:04

thanks vinegar and dinky ..it's late afternoon brentford to liverpool st..so tube and sling sounds good. I'm going to practice the sling hold in the wrap to see if he will feed that way. wishful thinking but worth a try.

well done phie Grin

SlouchingPanda · 25/07/2013 15:08

Congratulations Phie!

Thanks for the stitches and tears support Dinky and Vinegar - I have a cold pack, and lavender oil and things are improving slowly. I am going to rename myself ClenchingPanda for the PN thread... both as a reminder to do our PFEs and because slouching is also not going to help my divarificarion. ClenchingAndStandingUpStraightPanda perhaps.

Junior Panda was weighed at lunchtime. He has lost 10.7% of his BW which is too much apparently. My milk only really came in last night, plus as he was born late at night he is really 3.5 and not 4 days yet so am feeding like a trooper today re-weigh tomorrow. Fingers crossed as I am very reluctant to give formula top up when he seems to latch and suck so well.

OP posts:
MightBeMad · 25/07/2013 15:39

Slouching, 10.7 strikes me as enough to keep an eye on but really not enough to get stressed about at this stage. Hopefully the feed-a-thon today will make a dent and it will all be fine again Grin

Princess llama - I hope you don't mind, I ask mnhq if perhaps they could edit your earlier post to remove phie's rl name x

TomDaleysTrunks · 25/07/2013 16:08

Quick post for slouching. Dd lost 11% of her birth weight in 3 days. I declined re-admission to hospital or formula top ups for another 48 hours. Dd was just knackered after a long birth so I woke her 3hourly religiously to feed. Seemed to do the job but was hard work. Just wanted you to know that you don't necessarily need to do formula top ups.

Grin At your new name, love it!!

esme80 · 25/07/2013 16:45

Congrats Phie! Wonder which baby will be next, very exciting!

MW has taken blood test to check A's jaundice. Waiting for results tonight, if not good then we will go into hospital tonight for light therapy or what they call it. MW seemed confident that A seemed well though, alert, feeding well, lots of wet and dirty nappies, so am hoping it wont be necessary.

I havent bought a breast pump yet, thought I would wait to see how BFing went as didnt manage w DS. So now that it is going quite well, touch wood, could I ask for recommendations? Not planning on expressing that often really, but would be good to have option.

dinkystinky · 25/07/2013 17:19

Well done on the trip with 4 kids Thinking - and glad M saved her poonami for the way home!

Slouching - love the new name idea! Hope the feedathon does the trick.

Esme - good luck with As test. People seem evangelical about the medela swing pump. I have an avent one which is OK.

dinkystinky · 25/07/2013 18:05

Sorry had to hop off as j was screaming for service. Totally - could you use sling and take car seat (assume you'll need it at the other side) if you want a break from carrying her?

Well, this baby doesn't seem to want to join the outies list just yet, but maybe getting there slowly :-)!

Congrats to all those with new little snuggly bundles :-)

If anyone is looking for a pillow to help with stitches/sore bits, mothercare had one half price...obviously don't know what it's like but might be worth it!

40+8

evelynj · 25/07/2013 19:41

Congratulations Phie!

Busy baby day :) I'm in awe of all you brave ladies travelling out already-I'm scared still & only live in a little rural town!

We were up most of last night feeding-got a total of 2.5 hours sleep & so,tired & emotional today. Fx for a better night tonight-a 3-4 hour sleep stretch as someone said earlier really makes all the difference.

Can I also recommend to new mums to wrapround them & sleep with Muslins & sheets as F defo doesn't settle as well when they're changed & smell different

Also, what does everyone recommend in the way of slings? I'm a larger lady so no sure if that makes a difference to fit & comfort?

Re driving after c-section, I was doing it 3 weeks after DS & checked with insurers yest-same as most I've found-they are happy for me to drive as long as doc says it's ok. May ring docs next week if
I can't take it anymore.

Also DS lost 15%+ of his birth weight in first week but put it back on ok, please don't stress about it.

Hope all the labours are going well & looking forward to some more arrivals soon :)

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 19:57

slings wise, I am normally a huge fan of stretchy wraps - I have a Moby but the absolute easiest is something like a Close carrier (no wrapping or tying involved). However in this heat I have mostly been using our Connecta which is much cooler for B and DH/me.

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 19:59

Meant to say, the Connecta is a lightweight very easy to use (partner friendly) buckle carrier that can be used into toddlerhood on front and back. There is a special hot weather version called the Solarweave but I can't justify another sling!

dinkystinky · 25/07/2013 20:03

| have a close baby carrier Evelynj - J loves it and happily goes off to sleep in it (his big brother Ds2 hated it though). I do have to strip him down to a nappy in the heat to make sure he's not overheating though. I have a beco butterfly for when he's bigger/heavier. DH is a huge fan of the baby bjorn still...

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 20:12

Oh yes, Beco are fab, too. My personal favourite for a birth-to-toddlerhood sling is the Manduca. See if you have a sling meet locally and you can have a play with a few types. Or you can try before you buy from various sites eg petitpoppet.co.uk (I know Cathy who runs it and she is fab and so helpful).

twirliedobbit · 25/07/2013 20:30

Just checking in to say still here and still bored had a pro pess (sp?) in for 24 hrs which was removed today and now have to wait 24 hours before I can have a pessary gel as nothing is happening still.
2cm dilated and central cervix but just no bloody labour. Everyone is really nice and helpful but I am so booooored.

evelynj · 25/07/2013 20:55

Oh twirled, I feel for you, hope things start to move-when it starts it will go really quickly I'm sure. I read a saying today which has become my new mantra-'tough times don't last, tough people do'

Thanks for the sling recs-lots to look at & research-easy on & off etc sounds good for me. Nice to have something else to research while I'm stuck in my feeding chair!

I'm going to try to waken F for a last feed now & get to bed by 10ish in the hope of getting a 3hr sleep. Best laid plans and all that.....

MightBeMad · 25/07/2013 20:58

Twirlie - lots of mnetting? I find trawling through 'classics' can help at times like these! Have they said if they are going to try and break your waters at any point?

MightBeMad · 25/07/2013 20:59

Good luck Evelyn and I love your new mantra!

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 25/07/2013 22:08

Evelyn yes I love that mantra too! I just got a hana baby sling which is like a moby but lightweight/ cool material. M falls asleep as soon as i pop her in it. I find it very easy to put on but have used moby before for ds2 and ds3 so I've had plenty of practice!

twirlie how frustrating!! I find mn good to pass the time - try looking in an area you haven't looked before

To all the other labouring ladies, hang in there you will meet your babies soon

Oh and ds1 lost 12% of his birthweight but a sensible mw reassured me to keep going with bf and not top up. He didn't regain birth weight till he was 6 weeks old!! He is a totally normal boy who has always been skinny and quite tall.

princessllama · 25/07/2013 22:49

Twirlie dont lose heart, it'll happen soon, must be v boring stuck in hospital. Glad its a bit cooler.
All the sling talk has made me think i should try again- i am always so uncomfortable with baby bjorn that we've been given, i had a kari me sling for dd which she absolutely hated. I think the close one l

princessllama · 25/07/2013 23:00

Sorry phone error-Twirlie dont lose heart, it'll happen soon, must be v boring stuck in hospital. Glad its a bit cooler.
All the sling talk has made me think i should try again- i am always so uncomfortable with baby bjorn that we've been given, i had a kari me sling for dd which she absolutely hated. I think the close one looks good but even 2nd hand they are quite expensive. I can see that if you have a good one that your lo likes then they are brilliant.
Might be, i didnt think about the name thing, apologies everyone, especialy phie. What a revelation dinky that all the names slare on the pinned post! I've been trying to figure it out for ages!
Meanwhile back at the llama house, the baby llama is asleep i want to go to sleep but as usual dh is still working. Sometimes i dream of blowing up his computer, ipad and phone, still must remember am grateful he can pay the bills and he loves his job.

Shockingundercrackers · 26/07/2013 01:44

Morning all. Can I join the wide awake club please? Drumroll.... I've had my baby!

I have no time to catch up on anything so forgive lack of personals and will keep it brief. DS2 arrived 14 days overdue, whilst I was in hospital, waiting for them to start my induction. I don't think anyone thought I was in active labour and when they finally took me to the delivery room, 2 hours after breaking my waters he arrived safe and sound with just g&a - no time for anything else!

He's perfect. 8lb 1.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their newborn snuggles!

Silver15 · 26/07/2013 02:04

Congratulation Shocking.
