BB01 · 25/07/2013 07:25

Cheese is right about breast pads. Have tried Asda ones too and they were awful. Not tried any others since I discovered how good Lansinoh are. Thinking of all those in labour today! You can do it xx

SundaySunshine · 25/07/2013 07:59

Wow it's all go, good luck to you all: Phie hope you make it to hospital in time! Icing hope you manage to get some sleep through the pain, mrswildermac fingers crossed this is it, it's amazing how quickly things can turn around. Photographer hope things are going ok with you and you have a new midwife by now Flowers (hope I got that right, I'm on phone so relying on my nonexistent memory!)

Cheeseandbread · 25/07/2013 08:14

Good luck mrswildermac and photographer! I somehow missed you earlier.

MightBeMad · 25/07/2013 08:51

Good luck phie, icing, mrswild and photographer!!! Sounds luck we coud have a collection is outies today!!

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 09:32

Things can definitely go quickly from an unpromising start mrsw - both of mine I've gone from being found to be "unfavourable" with baby's head still high to having the baby within hours (almost minutes with Bethan!). Seems I don't really do latent phase!

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 09:33

Meant to say good luck everyone, including poco

cheekbyjowl · 25/07/2013 11:12

Good luck to the labour party glad you all get to meet your sons and daughters soon. how exciting!

poco is it this morning you have another check? hope the pain eases

Hello baby libby happy youre feeding so well for your mother Smile

evelyn my midwife says I can't drive till 6 weeks because car insurance companies won't insure you. it might be unique to c sections but check

londoners. on sunday we ideally need to cross london and I'm dreading it. what would you do with a newborn, car or tube? it's about an hr each way.

not ready for excursions as joseph is still not feeding unless I'm lying down which is hard to do in church or costa. Sad

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 11:17

cheek - from where to where? I'd normally vote for public transport plus sling, then he'll probably sleep all the way, you can pace around, bounce/rock/sing etc - but it does make it more tricky if you can't feed en route if necessary. Mind you you presumably can't feed in the car either? Also depends on how he feels about being in the car - DS hated it and screamed constantly.

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 11:24

Meant to say, slouching and anyone else with tears/stitches, my best advice is

Pain relief - regularly (paracetamol/brufen or diclofenac)
Peeing in the bath/shower or pour a jug of warm water over you as you pee
Daily salt water baths
Maternity pads soaked in water then put in the freezer to act as ice packs
A valley cushion or for a cheap alternative, pound shop kids' inflatable swimming ring
Leaving things to air as much as possible
And finally, Pelvic floor exercises

Oh and don't worry about loss of bladder/bowel control in the early days. It's ridiculously common.and almost always resolves quickly by itself.

princessllama · 25/07/2013 11:25

So SJ (edited by mumsnet) has anounced her baby's arrival in fb, but which one is sophie, i'm sure it's not phie or icing or photographer, is it you poco or mrs wildermac??
Congratulations anyway

lancslass83 · 25/07/2013 11:35

That's phie - big congrats phie sounds like you did amazingly well

princessllama · 25/07/2013 11:41

No way! That was so quick! Well done phie, great news!
Btw- how did you know that lancs, is there a list somewhere with the 2 sets of names?

dinkystinky · 25/07/2013 12:23

Its the pinned post at the top of the fb page Princess llama. Well done Phie and welcome tothe world to your dd! She was clearly v keen to come out when she decided to come.

It seems to be a labour epidemic at the moment - hope all going well for all of you. And mrsw I went from 0-60 with ds2 and j ( who wasn't engaged till just before he popped out) so it is possible for things to change v quickly.

Slouching - excellent advice from Vinegar on tears. I like to add lavender to the salt baths, few drops of comfrey in the jug of warm water, blot with mat pads to keep dry, feed lying down where poss, take arnica and vit e supplements (to speed the healing) and eat lots of fruit and veg so no constipation issues with stitches. And remember to do your pelvic floor exercises which will promote healing down there.

Cheek - if j likes the car seat and you're crossing London early on Sunday then drive - Jackson hates being put in the car seat but goes to sleep when we drive so its easy to drive with him at the moment. If venturing out later in the day then I'd say tube it with a sling.

Cheeseandbread · 25/07/2013 12:31

Congratulations Phie!! Flowers

TotallyEggFlipped · 25/07/2013 12:57

Vinegar - you can feed in the car! It's not easy, but it is possible. I BF DD1 sitting next to her in the back of the car as we drove along once. Both of us were legally restrained at all times. Grin

Whilst we're on the subject of travelling with little babies, I need to get the train in a couple of weeks. (Just me & N). Journey is probably 3-4 hours with a change in the middle. I'll need the pram when I get there, but I could send it up ahead with DH. My question is - sling or pram for the train? It feels like a long time to not be able to put N down for, but the carry cot of the pram is so big I'd need a whole table to put it on anyway, so it'd probably end up impossible to use even if I had it.

TotallyEggFlipped · 25/07/2013 12:57

And congratulations, Phie!

esme80 · 25/07/2013 13:02

Wow its all go here! Off to mw for weighing, wonder what will be happening when I get back? Good luck everyone in labour!

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 13:03

Oh yes, I know it's possible (as is feeding on public transport - Done it many times!) But cheek said she can only feed lying down at the mo....

VinegarDrinker · 25/07/2013 13:09

I'd definitely vote for sling. We did long distance train journeys with DS from 4 weeks and always used the sling. If you or N want a break from it you can just lie her on the seat next to you, on the table (if you have one) or across your lap. Btw if you don't already have a Family Railcard it's worth getting one. Obviously babies go free, but it's worth paying a couple of quid for a ticket for them as the railcard then gives you 1/3 off plus you have 2 seats reserved instead of one.

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 25/07/2013 13:43

Congratulations phie and good luck to the others in labour today. Was twirlie being induced today too?
Lots more babies arriving today I hope.

Well I had my first trip out with 4 kids today. Was feeling brave so went to a soft play place with a couple of friends plus their wee ones. Ds1 had a great time, ds2 enjoyed it for a while then had a strop, ds3 was a bit clingy. And dd was fine, had a feed while we were there then went back to sleep. We then stopped off at mil for lunch and back home to await mw visit this afternoon.
Overall went ok, and good for building my confidence. Dd did her first proper poonami on way home (poo all up back, down legs etc) so I was very glad she didn't do that while we were out!!

Anyone else a bit teary watching little Prince George the other night? Not as cute as dd obviously but v v cute!!
