BLW = 'Baby-led weaning'.

It's basically what we used to call 'giving the baby some food'.

LittlePeaPod · 19/06/2013 12:04

Ahhh... Thanks.. First timer!

OP posts:
Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 12:07

I was wondering that too pod. By the way tried pming and it keeps erroring so will try again later.

sarah what a cock! How dare he! I hope he realises what he has done and comes to his senses! Sending you hugs and a punchbag for stress relief!!!Sad

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 12:09

I have been concentrating so much on pregnancy books that I havent even thought about when the baby is here! I started looking at antenatal classes yesterday evening which apparently get booked up really quickly, so will get us signed up I think.....that will make it feel more, real! Grin

Vatta · 19/06/2013 12:14

pod - I'm a first timer too so no actual advice, but there's a mumsnet thread on the books people have found helpful

SarahJayne321 · 19/06/2013 12:17

Thank you again everyone!

I've not bought any books yet, I'm so paranoid I daren't buy anything until the scan, although we had one at 5+ weeks and saw a little heartbeat, I'm just far too superstitious.

Will not be surprised if I cave and get a private scan, even though nhs one is less than 2 weeks away!

LittlePeaPod · 19/06/2013 12:33

Thanks ladies and thanks for the link Vatta

Sultanajo have had problems with pm. Tried to respond earlier.

SarahJayne I totally understand where you are coming from. I felt exactly the same and its the first purchase I have made. But I am now 11+1 and I have had 3 scans already so took the plung... But DF and I have agreed no baby staff until after next Thirsday if all ok after next weeks scans.

Oh sarah that's an awful thing to say. Not excusing him ar all but my DP has also said some hurtful things in the last couple of months when he's more stressed than he's realised about the baby. He's in the doghouse today as he forgot it was my booking in appointment this morning & couldn't come with me as he had a work meeting. I've bought him a book called Pregnancy for Men which will hopefully help him understand what I'm going thru & why I'm so tired & moody.

Frizz1986 · 19/06/2013 12:52

Thats awful sarah Sending hugs. I would be so so mad!

I have only got 1 book and I think it's the dummies guide for pregnancy. I only got it as I know I'll have a kid at some point so even if this bean doesn't stay around I'll eventually want something. It only really does a week by week guide for the pregnancy and has some things to think about. Am not too worried about a book for when baby arrives as I plan on just relying on my own thoughts and instincts and advice and thoughts from my mum and sisters. Am sure it will take some trial and error but I'll find something that works.

Dh chose a book too which was a bit of a fun guide to what is going on so hope he feels a bit more involved by having it.

sarahleanne · 19/06/2013 13:04

That's bloody awful sarah!! I'm sure he didn't mean it . Hope ur ok.

For ladies on 2nd or 3 rd babies.... Is anyone not very excited about the thought of the amount of stuff you have to buy? I got rid of all my baby stuff and am avoiding buying anything at the moment . Just can't seem to get excited about buying things yet, I just feel like it's money we havnt got and we've been trying so hard to pay off debts and save for a house deposit. God I sound really selfish . Am I the only one who can't b assed to buy things yet?

chocoholicalcoholic · 19/06/2013 13:09

Afternoon,

Crikey you ladies can talk!

MRSGSR I'm a bit late to the conversation about announcing but as someone whose had children before marriage, I wouldn't be offended in the slightest. Yeah it's a tad sickly but who cares - you're having a baby and can be as sickly as you like! There's no right or wrong way to announce, do what you want to do and enjoy the moment.
We haven't told anyone yet and don't plan to. We are interested to see who dares say anything when the obvious bump appears! I hate the attention of announcement and the interrogation questions that follows as I find it quite a private thing but I understand other women love it.

Buntcadger My midwife said 3rd deliveries tend to be very fast if the 2nd was quick. Guess whose 2nd flew out in just under two hours!? Shitting myself slightly that this one is going to fall out on the school run... What were your previous labours like?

chocoloulou Bless us poor chocos! Well done on a full day at work and minimal vomming yesterday. I have quite a selection of foods that I now know are NOT COOL to throw up. Some fly up quite smoothly, others like bread, pasta, scones HURT and tend to get stuck on the way. Tea is a bitch as is marmite on toast Grin. I hope you start to improve very soon. Same to you fellow vom buddy MRSAVB and anyone else struggling. It's horrible and relentless but strangely reassuring isn't it?

Toby Lots of stretching and pain here too the last few days, I kinda like it though, shows things are happening in there!

sultana Hugs for your bad day yesterday, hope today is better.

enjoying and extra hope your DS are feeling better and that you don't catch it!

FX for scans coming up today and this week.

Excellent news for those of you who've had lovely scans, very jealous!

So glad some of you on 3rd pregnancies are chubby! I feel so conscious of it especially as we haven't told anyone yet. I'm normally a size 6/8 so the bulge is really obvious, well to me anyway. Argh!

Have a good day :)

Gabbyj · 19/06/2013 13:15

Hi all. Excellent news on all the lovely scan results! Mine seems an age away...

Still enjoying the constant nausea - I must admit that I do find it quite reassuring though! Struggling to keep awake at my desk! Fun times!

Sarah - hope that your dp recovers his senses very soon xxx

chocoholicalcoholic · 19/06/2013 13:16

sarahleanne I hear you. We got rid of everything baby related so it's back to square one buying it all again this time. It does feel like a huge expense. They need so much for such tiny babies! We plan on looking secondhand on some things or borrowing from friends/family. If we buy something new we know we can sell it again after to ease the cost a bit. At least third time round we know what products are pointless and what to avoid buying!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 19/06/2013 13:52

sarah your DH needs a good kick in the goolies. What a prat. I'm sorry he was so hurtful.

Booking in went v well - lovely LOVELY midwife, the Royal London's antenatal unit is shiny and new and lovely, i have my notes and Bounty pack and I'm eligible to consider the Barkantine MLU for birth, hoorah!
Scan is 2nd July - only 13 days away!!!

Oh, and I vommed for the first time this morning. Apparently I am going to systematically experience ALL the joys of pregnancy. I can't wait for the excess body hair and swollen feet ones. Hmm

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 13:56

Thanks chocoholic - today has indeed been a bit better so far - it was definitely shit yesterday but I think hormones made it even worse and pushed me over the edge!

Well today so far I haven't felt perfect, but have felt better than I have for a while and have also eaten a small amount of pasta which I haven't done for AGES because it normally makes me heave. Sooo, without jinxing myself and worrying that it means something is wrong perhaps I may be coming out the other side finally? It's probably just today and by tonight I will be feeling like shit again, but I am feeling a tiny glimmer of hope along with the obvious panic! OMG!

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 13:57

Yeay! Great stuff Humpty (not about the vomming) but exciting you have a lovely midwife and the location of your choice! Woop woop! Only 13 days until your scan too - it's all happening!!! Grin

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 19/06/2013 13:58

Oh, and I have lost 4kg since my GPs appointment 5 weeks ago... Which isn't to say I couldn't lose another fourty but still! MW said not to lose any more. Easier said than done - i managed half a salad (no carbs) at lunch. Half. Of things made mainly of water, FFS.

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 13:59

Meant to say - thanks for the link Vatta. Will dip into that when I get a sec...

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 19/06/2013 13:59

sultana sounds like your placenta is taking over! Pasta! Yay! I know what you mean - WAY too heavy at the moment. I hope this is the turning point for you - where are you up to?

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 14:00

Arghhh humpty! It's so hard isn't it and I have been thinking "why couldn't I have eaten like this BEFORE I got preggers - would have been super skinny by now!!!" Wink

Sultanajo · 19/06/2013 14:01

Humpty, unless they change my dates AGAIN on Friday then I should be 12+3 today. Can't actually believe it! So happy to have made it this far this time....

SarahJayne321 · 19/06/2013 14:06

Thanks Humpty. I've completely cut him off as it stands, Its hard to just blank him but he needs a taste of his own medicine. Looks like I'm finally growing some balls... Possibly literally if it's a boy!

Taking my little cousin on a girly day soon, I say little she is 17! Sure it will keep my mind occupied for a few hrs at least.

Out of interest where is everyone from? I remember a London majority a few threads back?

LittlePeaPod · 19/06/2013 14:21

I am in Yorkshire SarahJayne

Great to her yor feling better Sultanajo. FX this is the start of the glowing trimester or you....

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 19/06/2013 14:25

sultana I know - easiest diet EVER. No desire to eat, certainly no desire for much apart from fruit, salad, crunchy veg and salt and vinegar crisps.

Sarah glad to hear it, he deserves it. I hope you have a fab girly day out!
I'm London (East).

Rubberstamp · 19/06/2013 14:29

Hello all - just saying hello. Due 1st jan by dates. Had nuchal on Monday and everything looked fine with very small measurement but have to wait for bloods. That dated me a little earlier but apparently they don't change it where I am, so still due 1/1.
Structurally everything looked ok which is good as last time had to have a termination after the 12 week scan because of incompatible with life prognosis. Bizarrely didn't really worry about it too much - these things happen but this time I get lots of extra scans because it could happen again, 1 in 4 risk.
Next scan at 16 weeks so hopefully all still be good then.
Good luck everyone.
