Re weight gain, please don't panic, especially not if you breast feed! I gained the same as Clapham with DD (prob 2.5-3 stones), but I did eat things I wouldn't usually! Lots of cakes etc! DD fed lots and within 12 weeks (I didn't even attempt before then) I was back in my jeans, albeit there was a buldge at the top... The best advice ever given to me was "9 months on, 9 months off". Sure enough, without even remotely trying (actually eating lots more than pre pregnancy), 9 months after DD was born I was back to slimmer than I had been just before getting preg. And I stayed that way until now. Honestly, especially if you breastfeed (the extra weight is for milk production), it WILL all come off in 9 months or so. Hope that helps!!

pinkbuttons · 26/06/2013 12:24

haha roofio its not very often that you can take pride in putting on weight is it Grin you must look good though for them not to have noticed! theres no hiding my tummy anymore.

I put on 4 stone when I was pregnant with DS and lost 3 stone within about 6 months. I did have to work to get the last one off though, did weight watchers and it was fine. This time round have only put on half a stone so far, but Ive felt like my whole pregnancy has been different including much more sickness. Does anyone know if the growth measurements at 20 week scan correlate to how big baby will be?
DS was 8lb 1 and was only in his newborn clothes for a week, but this baby was showing much smaller on her scan, so am wondering if shes likely to be smaller when born?
Feeling a bit overwhelmed about knowing no one in our new city. DH has had this week off which has been lovely but suddenly feeling very anxious about next week alone.

Flyer747 · 26/06/2013 12:27

That's good news roofio :-) chemo is not nice so I hear.

Hayle you've made me day losing a stone when it's born...happy days.

I've come to realise that pregnancy and high heels don't go together.

claphammama · 26/06/2013 12:58

High heels and pregnancy are very Kim Kardashian flyer. Please don't do Kim Kardashian :-) I'm too lazy for high heels at the best of times... Flats and trainers here all the way!

You are so lucky roofio. My friend had chemo and she can't have children now. Luckily she already has one. Happy it worked so well for you xx

Just booked myself a hairdresser appointment for this afternoon. Might as well make the most of my week off!

pink and hayley when I was pregnant with DS midwives told me boys tend to be born a bit bigger than girls.

roofio87 · 26/06/2013 13:04

yes I know how very very lucky I am to have survived and now be expecting my lo. feeling truly blessed!!Smile

claphammama · 26/06/2013 13:10

roofio Flowers

Flyer747 · 26/06/2013 13:23

I lol at that clapham! Kim Kardashian is a bit of a chav isn't she...I want to wear heels at a wedding I'm only 5ft 4 so feel like a short ass in flats.

I reckon my baby will be a beast I'm going for over 9lb!

Enjoy the hairdressers.

BowlFullofJelly · 26/06/2013 13:48

Love this thread - just been catching up - where else do you see comments like 'glad your cervix is holding up' and 'how is your pelvis'? Grin.

Are people starting to have ideas to how big their babies will be? DS was 8lb 6 so quite chunky for a 1st, and I have already had some helpful comments about how I look ready to pop, and haven't I got big really quickly Hmm. So i'm going over 9lb as well flyer

Booked a last minute half price weekend away at Sandyballs snigger in the New Forest and going to take DS to Peppa Pig world - very excited!

Natalieand · 26/06/2013 13:51

bowlfull we took dd (2 years 7 months) to peppa pig world a week or so ago she absolutely loved it!! It's only about 40 minutes away from us xx

I put on 2.5 stone with dd and lost 1.5 stones instantly virtually she was 8.8lbs so I'm expecting a similar weight baby this time in already rediculously big!

I rarely so heels when I'm not pregnant despite only being 5ft 2 so I don't attempt them when pregnant, I shall be wearing flats to my sister wedding too even tho I'm a bridesmaid luckily my sisters are short too so I shouldn't look too out of place in pics except my rediculously large belly

BowlFullofJelly · 26/06/2013 14:08

That's good to hear Natalie - DS is 2 and a half, and I think he might explode with excitement! We haven't told him yet, as he is going through a particularly impatient phase at the moment - he knows he is going to stay in the woods in a stick house and the bears and wolves are friendly but will be cross if he gets out of bed - instilling a bit of fear is ok right?

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 26/06/2013 17:07

Flyer I went to a work do the other evening and, even though I sat down for most of the evening (it was a dinner thing), my ankles really swelled. So it might be an idea to take some flats to change into if you can.

PseudoBadger · 26/06/2013 17:14

Oh my goodness thank god that work day is over. So bloody stressful today :(

Regarding weight, I started a thread in pregnancy as I've put on about 2st since booking. I'm not overindulging, and I know a lot of it is water.

Umlauf DS has been put on an agency's books, there's no guarantee of work. But the agency is quite a selective one (5000 applications this time) so I'm very proud and shallow :o

DS was 7lb 5 when born at 38 weeks. This baby is following a nice growth curve under the 50th centile..

I've got my doppler scan tomorrow and then a consultant appointment straight afterwards.

Flyer747 · 26/06/2013 17:21

Yeah I thought of doing that comtess, the bride is our old neighbour and she is in her 50's we were talking and she didn't know you had to do wedding favours. Anyway long story short she was asking me for ideas when I told her a wedding I attended last year the wedding favours for the ladies were flip flops (cheap plastic ones in a organza bag) and what a great idea it was, and all the girls had them on by the time the disco started....so she is going with that, so I have guaranteed comfort. :-)

I'm constantly hungry fruit isn't doing it for me today.

GTbaby · 26/06/2013 17:27

Weight gain - to add in my experience. I put on no weight until after 6months. Then put on 2stone. After lo I did not exercise nor watch what I ate. Yet booking in weight was exactly the same as previous booking weight. So I guess I lost the 2stone in 4months and that with not trying. Keep in mind I'm about 3stone over weight anyway.
I think baby weight is easier to loose then normal weight IYSWIM.
So don't worry!

DS just declared that "everything is silly and boring"... and is now lying on the floor sulking... Is "nearly 5" not a bit early for this teenage behaviour...??

claphammama · 26/06/2013 18:57

ps. he's just added that "it's not even fair". Not sure what is not fair but obviously something... shall I start explaining to him now that life is not fair?

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/06/2013 19:02

My baby is going crazy, it is like stero sound alternating kicks on either side of my tummy every couple of seconds. A little bit worried I have made a little monkey...

Sports day was fine today, for half of it I sat on a chair and wrote down first second and third place in races, a good job to have. And wore sun cream, wide brimmed hat and sunglasses to make sure I didn't burn!

I did my davina exercise DVD for the first time last night. Very tame, mainly just walking on the spot, but I think it might help to strengthen all my muscles that feel like they are falling apart.

I haven't weighed myself for a few weeks but I am guessing about two stone weight gain at least. People keep telling me that I have really grown this week. My baby was in the. 50th percentile for all the measurements my the scan, what is the average weight for. A baby these days, about 8lb? I am petite but my husband is tall and broad so I think it could be a big 'un. I was 6lb 12 when I was born two weeks overdue but I think that would be considered very small these days.

Shootingstarsandcomets · 26/06/2013 19:15

Another one here to say don't worry about weight gain. I put on 3 stone with ds and was back in size 8 jeans by 6 weeks. I breastfed for 4 months and was back to normal definitely by 3 months. I would say the breastfeeding did it all for me and I still ate cake and carbs and biscuits as was starving producing all the milk. Ds was a whopper of a baby at 7lbs6oz a month early!! I'm expecting a 9lb we this time so maybe its a good thing he or she will be a section! I'm tiny so no idea how ds got so big you would think small mum small baby but not in my case.
They might be able to give you an indication of size at 32 weeks clapham but sometimes they can be very wrong on those scans.
DH has arrived home with BBQ stuff. Yum yum. I am going to work on putting on my 3 stone by eating masses!!
Oh and we don't have isofix either, its fine Smile

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/06/2013 19:32

Just weighed myself, I've gained about 20lb so far, which is about a stone and a half. Weight gain has slowed down after an 8lb in 3 weeks growth spurt in weeks 17-20 which is probably a good thing for avoiding stretch marks but I know there is a lot more to come!

Shirehobbit · 26/06/2013 19:42

clapham there's an old saying of, "life isn't fair and that's what's makes it fair for everyone," which I rather like. Don't know how that would wash with a five year old, though Grin

claphammama · 26/06/2013 19:50

nice one *shire! must say I was preparing myself for questions along the lines of " where do babies come from" but not this kind of existential preoccupations!

Shirehobbit · 26/06/2013 19:59

As for weight gain, I'm around the stone to stone and a half mark (depending on when I weigh). I decided a few weeks ago to try to not let it worry me. Sometimes I have more success with that than others.

MotherOfNations · 26/06/2013 19:59

Clapham At least he's not constantly telling you to "get a grip" like my dd of the same age. She really does belong on mumsnet.

LostMySocks · 26/06/2013 20:05

Just met DH on the platform waiting for train home. He kissed me and patted my tummy....in public and he's not even been drinking. Quite nice but unexpectes Since it started moving and my tummy has started looking pregnant he's suddenly got much more interested in the baby.

BowlFullofJelly · 26/06/2013 20:18

Hehe Clapham and Mon - its so funny when little ones come out with these things.

Agree with everyone on the weight gain. I put on just over 2 stone with ds, stone came off straight after birth, and was half a stone lighter than I started after 4 months. Breastfeeding a hungry boy definitley did it for me, but beware, have seen quite a few threads with ladies saying they didn't drop the weight until they stopped bf, so it must differ woman to woman
