excuse me if I sound stupid, but what exactly is swaddeling a baby? and what are the benefits of it?
sorry your dp can't be there Mon I bet he feels rubbish about it x

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 20:43

Swaddrling is just wrapping in a shawl roofio . It makes the baby eel enclosed and secure just like in the womb and stop their limbs jerking in their sleep and waking them.

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 20:45

He's threatening to walk out if they create problems with all the time off he'll need when the baby arrives. I imagine she'll be in hospital for quite some time after she's born.

OrangeBlossom2 · 20/06/2013 20:46

They must have a compassionate leave policy? Will he be entitled to paternity leave or is it like mat leave that you have to have been there a certain time?

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 20:51

I think that there are so many possible conditions that the sample just wouldn't be big enough to screen for everything Natalie. I skim read one article on 22Q but don't want to scare myself by reading too much.
Something to do with a chromosomal defect. 200 possible symptoms including heart defects, kidney problems, hearing difficulties, personality disorders and autism. Facial deformities are common too.

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 20:53

Same as mater ity leave Orange but they've agreed to discuss it with him. At this rate he'll be needing the help of the association he works for.

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 20:54

He's only on a 6 month contract so maybe that's why they're reluctant to help.

Sanjifair · 20/06/2013 21:05

Oh mon I am so sorry to hear your news. After all you have gone through already. Fingers crossed for you, and more virtual hugs.

OrangeBlossom2 · 20/06/2013 21:07

Still you would hope human decency would prevail. He could always go off sick... stress and depression not unlikely in those circumstances I imagine and they should be aware of that.

Right I must get off the Internet and finish my reports.

Well done for staying away from Dr Google, you have greater willpower than me!

MotherOfNations · 20/06/2013 21:14

He works for the Scottish Association for Mental Health, so yes you would expect they of all people would understand he'd need time off given the circumstances. His line manager was quite understanding but not all decisions are down to her.

MoN Flowers

Just back from the NCT meeting - DH and I were so bemused and obvious newbies!! It's made it all a bit more real for us.
The sling library people were awesome. This particular one has only just been set up, so they're really just sorting themselves out. But they are holding weekly social meets to try slings as well as have a coffee/cake. They've taken my details and are actually going to do some research on my behalf to see if they can help me with any issues I might have with my hypermobility/dodgy back.

Natalieand · 20/06/2013 22:39

I've just spent the last hour consoling dd whilst dh emptied her bed

Natalieand · 20/06/2013 22:40

I've just spent the last hour consoling dd whilst dh emptied her bed of sick now everytime I get in bed she shouts she's guna be sick. Then when I get there its a false alarm. If there is a god up there please let us all get some sleep tonight lol

ananikifo · 20/06/2013 23:12

MoN I'm so sorry to hear the results of your scan. I hope the genetic test is negative and her condition is as mild as possible.

I've been off MN for the last few weeks. I've read somewhere that the most stressful events in life are having a baby, starting a job, and moving house. Well I'm here, my new job starts 1 July, and after a few weeks of believing our first house purchase is likely to fall through DH and I have scrambled to find a short-term lease and get everything ready to leave our current apartment this weekend. We'll be staying further fr

ananikifo · 20/06/2013 23:19

Sorry posted too early

We'll be staying further from my work likely making my commute and hour and a half or more. At least there's hope we'll get to buy this house after all. I'm dying to buy baby things but the extra expenses with this move and the fact we have to pack and m

I've been extremely stressed and can feel the tension in my body but so far baby Joshua seems ok. I panicked last Friday (21+3) when I didn't feel him move but the midwife easily found his hb and if course he kicked as soon as she put cold gel on my belly. She said they get tons of women in at 24 weeks for this reason bc amniotic fluid increases and that can make you feel baby less.

ananikifo · 20/06/2013 23:20

Ugh got cut off again. Just wanted to say umlauf I have so much sympathy for you in your situation and would help m

ananikifo · 20/06/2013 23:21

Move you if I could!

(Going back to the MN app as obviously the mobile site is not for me)

Pannacotta2013 · 20/06/2013 23:30

Oh MoN, sending you all best wishes and good luck for tomorrow. And that's ridiculous they won't let your hb attend such an important medical appointment! What would they do if he were sick? The drs have scheduled it in at short notice because it's obviously urgent and serious?! Hmm.

Smitten1981 · 20/06/2013 23:59

Urgh, waiting for DH to call me to pick him up from the station. He went to London for a meeting at 1pm and still hasn't told me when he's coming back. I'm so tired. Hmm

JellyCurls · 21/06/2013 06:51

Good luck today MoN will be thinking of you and sending all my positive thoughts your way x

OrangeBlossom2 · 21/06/2013 07:05

Checking in to wish you luck today MoN.

Oh dear Ananikifo, sorry to hear you are having such a stressful time.
I dreamt I was in hospital learning how not to be stressed. The dream nurses advice was buy a bug to stroke or do dances with cats. Hmm going slightly mad...

My baby has been really going for it inside me yesterday and this morning. I have been stressed with exams at school and trying to write reports to the deadline late last night (failed - more to squeeze in at lunch time - decided I can't do past midnight anymore) I think it gets worked up by the adrenaline. So wriggly I could hardly concentrate and it woke me up this morning. Hopefully it can have a nice rest as we are off to a wedding in Anglesey this weekend. Although VERY pleased that I can feel it moving and don't want that to stop obviously!

pinkbuttons · 21/06/2013 07:09

Thinking of you today MoN and agree with others its ridiculous that they wont let your DH come to appt.
ana also wanted to send you hugs, I have just left work as were moving this weekend too, have been so greatful for the time off as moving is so bloody stressful and Im exhausted so you have my complete respect for managing both. fingers crossed that the house sale comes through and your settled in your new house before baby arrives Smile
one more night to clean the entire house and DS finished nursery yesterday, has suddebly hit me that Im going to have to entertain a very energetic 2 year old all day everyday Confused

Hope your DH wasnt much later smitten!

juniper9 · 21/06/2013 07:20

Wishing you luck today MoM. Hope you get the good news you deserve from the cardiologist. Flowers

Natalieand · 21/06/2013 07:23
