Starting yet another thread as us chatterboxes have filled up 2 already!

Jucy, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs, wish there was something more I could say. Flowers

Frouby, if you're feeling crap just fuck the housework off, I do! It'll keep.

I'm scared and excited in equal measures about the scan on Friday. Looking forward to seeing bean and being able to get on with things. But obviously scared of getting bad news like Jucy... 2 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes to go!

My friend has offered to be a birthing partner too. I may well take her up on it, I suspect she'll be more help than OH. And as I'm planning on having a home water birth and OH has already invited his bloody mum (!) think it'll be good to have a friend there. I'm not private at all, have zero issues with people seeing me naked (as my neighbours will tell you) and she's seen me throw up enough times from our party days (though never shit myself to be fair) that I'm not too fussed about that.

Hi everyone

just had my 16 week midwife appointment, first she didn't listen to heartbeat, said they don't do that until next appointment at 22 weeks but then I've also been moved from the green pathway to the amber one as DD was small when she was born. Have to have an extra scan at 28 weeks to see how baby is growing then they'll decide after that if I can still give birth in the midwife led unit or whether I'll have to go to the main hospital bit.

Sorry rant over, glad to hear about everyones scans!

mumoftwoboysS · 13/06/2013 17:33

thanks Holly may try bump bands- or see if my over the bump jeans work folded down. Thing I found in my last pregnancies was that as soon as I had a decent bump the under the bump jeans weren't comfy- they dug in so I could only wear the over the bump ones - but they're useless for now! Tried those extenders and find they just keep popping open, rubbish.

clare has the change for listening to the heartbeat been done across the country? I thought it was definitely the 16 week appointment, how rubbish.

must be frustrating moving to the amber pathway but look on the birght side, at least you get an extra scan? and just because your last baby was small doesn't mean this one will be.

both mine were on the small side (6lb 8 and 6lb10) but I don't know what is classed as too small? Some people just have small babies! (or maybe I had too much caffeine as I couldn't kick my coffee habit Grin

2Labradors · 13/06/2013 17:37

Lovely to hear about the exciting scans

We were going to pay for a private scan around now to find out what sex baby is, but my 20 week scan (will actually be 19 weeks +3) is just over 3 weeks away and I can't justify spending £80+ which seems to be going rate around here. Bloody car's got to go in the garage tomorrow as it's sick so expecting a hefty bill!

If they can't tell at 20 week scan though (as happened with my DD) then we will invest in going for a sexing scan. Will have had another pay day by then.

clare sorry they didn't listen for heart beat today, maybe it's because they don't want to worry you unnecessarily if they can't find it. I've got my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow.

My mum & daughter have bought a Doppler from a friend for me but I've been too scared to use it, I'm scared I won't find the heart beat and then worry about it. If the midwife does listen tomorrow then I might give it a try myself.

LadyMedea · 13/06/2013 17:43

Arse. Forgot my keys so sat in porch waiting for OH to get home. Probably another 30mins at least. My coccyxis killing me and I really need a wee! Please let the nice neigjbours get home soon!

kyz1981 · 13/06/2013 17:48

clare8allthepies I am in a similar situation - under consultant care due to problems in 1st Pg had none in my 2nd but they still feel the need to give me loads of appointments.

Because my DS was born on the 3rd centile (small being 6lb 6 oz at 40 weeks so not tiny)- I am having all the growth measurements taken, However I am pretty certain I will have a good shot at being able to deliver in a Midwife unit- I will be choosing one that has the medical ward on the same site as in both my previous births I have needed my waters breaking by Drs, as I was fully dilated but both dd and dd were to high up for the midwife to do it. Small is classed as any baby born under the 10th centile.

Featherbag · 13/06/2013 17:54

The MWs here never listen for hb at the 16 week appointment, when I asked why last time I was told its because of the stress caused to both mum and MW if they can't find it, which happens often at that early stage. So they stopped doing it altogether, which I can understand!

clare8allthepies · 13/06/2013 18:12

Thanks everyone, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, extra checks can't be a bad thing and you're right it does mean an extra scan! Think I just had the hump this afternoon! Blush
DD was 6 pounds and half an ounce, didn't think it was that small (me and my siblings were all 6 pounders) so was a surprise to hear that she was just the 2nd centile.
Right off to bid on maternity gear on eBay so none of you lot better outbid me! Grin

Dasie · 13/06/2013 21:25

Lady hope you made it to the loo in time!

Congrats on all the happy scans Grin

Anyone else experiencing Braxton Hicks yet? I'm 15 + 5 and have noticed over the last few days I get a very tight tummy from time to time! Don't mind a bit of practice but didn't realise it could happen so early on! Shock

MrsShrubs · 13/06/2013 22:32

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join? Brand new to mums net. I'm 13+5 due 14th December.

violetbean · 14/06/2013 05:10

Welcome MrsShrubs!

Woke up hideously early with scan nerves today. 6 hours to go.

I'm going to try to get a bump band too, they sound great. Currently surviving on a pair of black under-bump trousers and a pair of over-bump jeans, both from New Look. Generally roll down the over-bump bit and they are ok. Tops are becoming a problem so definitely need to get the bump band asap.

Bought a v-shaped pillow in Argos for a tenner the other day and have been using it to feel more comfy in bed (sort of hugging it). Totally brilliant!

Hope all well. Thinking of you.

AuroraOrtiz · 14/06/2013 05:41

Good luck with your scan today violetbean!

froubylou · 14/06/2013 07:25

Hello MrsShrubs.

Violet it will all be fine lovely. You will be transfixed by the little moving picture of your bean and won't be able to take your eyes of it. Let us know when you are back.

Claire, Im having extra scans too. yay! Only because DD was small at 5lbs 12oz. I know why she was small and it was because I didn't eat enough and I didn't rest enough whilst I was carrying and was also very stressed. Not the case this time but it will be very nice to see baby at 28 weeks, 32 weeks and 36 weeks. Long time I think between 20 week scan and the actual birth. And at least if baby shy at 20 week scan we should still be able to find out sex at 28 week one.

Glad I had my scan yesterday though as this morning my 'bump' seems to have disappeared. Could be the eyewateringly big poo (TMI? sorry lol) I managed to part with yesterday afternoon. Think its a combination of dropping vits for a couple of days and the relief of the scan being fine. So holding off on maternity clothes for a week or 2 I think. Jeggings are my friend lol.

Roselau · 14/06/2013 07:35

Violet I'm with you. Scan is in two hours, I woke up overnight every half hour. Still no sign of a bump, still not budge on the scale. my mom was worried over the phone last night that I STILL haven't gained an ounce (i'm 12 and a half weeks) so she got me even more freaked out.
Please cross fingers and everything!!!

Alyssa1978 · 14/06/2013 07:48

Good luck on your scans everyone.
I have a consultant appt Monday to see if she wants to throw in any extra growth scans as ds1 was 5lbs 6oz but there was a lot going on and I was very stressed etc with really bad sickness throughout entire pregnancy, ds2 was completely different however weighing in at 7lbs 5oz lol.

I caved yesterday and ordered a Doppler.

MildredH · 14/06/2013 08:36

Good luck violet & rose- hoping all is fine then you can enjoy the magic of watching your bean bounce around on the screen!

Alyssa- which one did you go for? I'm still undecided ( tho will almost certainly cave too- just a matter of when!)

I'm seeing the gp about my reflux this morning - thinking of asking him to use Doppler.. Don't know if he'd be happy to?

merr · 14/06/2013 08:55

Morning December ladies,

Good luck today Rose and Violet, mines at 11 so bit longer of feelling terrified... Fingers croseed and hopefully all will go to plan for us all.

Regarding bump bands, I buy the cheap (£1.50) cami tops from primark, they are super streachy and at the moment at 5' 6 come down to my bum covering up the big gap forming between my tshirts and jeans! I used them last time as well in a load of different colours and it worked a treat

mumoftwoboysS · 14/06/2013 09:46

Good luck on your scans today violet, rose and merr!

So regarding small babies- I don't know what percentile 6lbs 8oz is (I could look in the little red book I suppose) just wondering if my first ds was classed as a 'small' baby then- they certainly didn't mention anything to me and I didn't get any special treatment for my 2nd?

tried on my over the bump jeans and surprised that one pair fit me despite my lack of bump- yay! will save a few pennies being able to wear them already then.

only 3 days till my scan...yay!...

mumoftwoboysS · 14/06/2013 09:47

seeing old school friends on saturday that i haven't seen in a year...2 days before my scan. Don't know whether to tell them (probably won't see them for another year!) I'll probably be showing a bit so they'll probably wonder anyway....bit of a dilemma...

Gannetgob · 14/06/2013 10:16

Good luck everyone with scans today - hope they all go well!

I am furious this morning. I'm not teaching so I'm hiding in a little office which is never used to calm down a bit.

A woman I work with is a twat. She thinks she's the dogs bollocks. She knows everything about everything and is so patronising because she has been teaching longer than me (by a whole 2 years!)

She has been really off with me this week and I didn't know why. I've found out its because I was asked to do something and she wasn't. (I don't particularly want to do this thing - it's having a student in with me for 3 lessons next week - i am more than happy to share the student!) However, she doesn't teach in the lessons the student is coming in because she normally has year 11 but they have obviously left now.

She has gone to our line manager to complain that I am hogging the student. Obviously, I'm not. I was asked because I will be teaching. I also heard her moaning to a receptionist about it all this morning. She has also blanked me this morning then went on to tell another teacher in the same room that she is ok but she's angry with something but the person will be 'dealt with' this morning.

So I've been called in to explain myself. It's so ridiculous. It's school girl stuff. She's nearly 60 for fucks sake!

To sum up, my line manager agreed that I wasn't at fault and my head of dept knows she's a crazy bitch so there's no worry about anything in that respect.

It's just a pathetic situation that could have been avoided if she had spoken to me or the head of dept about it rather than getting SLT involved.

It's just the latest in a long line of things. Someone left at Easter, without another job to go to, because they couldn't put up with her anymore.

On the bright side, I'll finish at the end of October and then we think she's retiring in feb so I won't have to put up with it for long!

Sorry, such a long moan. Reading it back it seems a really pathetic thing to be annoyed about. Sorry!

kyz1981 · 14/06/2013 11:21

mumoftwoboysS When my DS was born, I was never told he was small and we were home in less than 24hrs. I had a big discussion with the head midwife about DS being small as it came as a shock. It is quite a new thing they have introduced.
Since my DS has been born 33 months ago, things seem to have changed a lot. With this Preg, I have had to have a cervical scan due to laser treatment at the age of 18- despite having two full term PG after the treatment, I have to take low dose asprin due to high BP and other PE symptoms in my 1st PG. Its completely shocked me how many consultant appointments I have to attend because of the new policy's.

violetbean · 14/06/2013 11:55

I'm in the hospital, scan good, baby there with clear heartbeat, only thing is, he/she is facing the wrong way! Am sitting in the waiting room drinking tonnes of water and eating chocolate to try to get baby to move round so they can get dating measurements. Hope other scans going well.

violetbean · 14/06/2013 11:58

PS, gannet, your colleague sounds awful, lucky she's off soon! Well done for keeping calm.

Gannetgob · 14/06/2013 12:21

Have they managed to get what they need yet violet? Glad everything is ok otherwise.

Sorry for completely off topic rant earlier. Hubby wasn't answering his phone, so you lot got it I'm afraid.

Mum, I think you should tell your friends - it's great to talk about and if you aren't going to see them for some time it might be nice!

I caved and bought some sleep suits for the baby yesterday. We weren't going to until 20 weeks but I just wanted to. Just a little thing but I such a big grin buying it. Anybody else bought anything else recently?

Alyssa1978 · 14/06/2013 12:33

mildred

I went for the £39.99 one from costmad-UK from the Amazon website, it comes with 25ml of gel but I ordered another 250ml for only a couple of ££. I ordered yesterday but then went for express delivery and its being delivered this afternoon, I can't wait lol Grin
