So they scanned me. Suppose I should be happy as heartbeat and all looks ok. But I should be 7+3 but they dated me 6+4. They said its ok as it's not that accurate but that's about when my symptoms stopped. Also same as happened when we miscarried , heartbeat but dated a week earlier. Not sure what to think

enormouse · 11/06/2013 11:49

mythreeknights I think it depends whether you usually knock drinks back like there's no tomorrow or whether people will be suspicious if you just have the one glass of wine for the whole night. If they will go for antibiotics.
I went to a barbecue this weekend and I had a very small glass of wine for the entire evening. I took ladylike sips and was very decorous

enormouse · 11/06/2013 11:55

MrsVDB sending you a hug. Have you spoken to the mw about how you're feeling? I don't what the usual protocol is but can they offer you any further testing/scans to set your mind at rest? I hope someone more knowledgeable comes along soon but I didn't want to leave you unanswered.

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 11:59

MrSV so glad to hear about the heartbeat. I can totally understand your worries though folliwing your previous experience. But my sonogapher says a heartbeat at 6+ weeks means yo have a 78% all will be well. Plus you coukd gave ovulated later than usual. Will you be having another scan?

OP posts:
MrsVDB · 11/06/2013 12:12

I want another scan in 2 weeks to check if its growing but dh doesn't want to as it will cause too much stress. I'd much rather know now than in 5 weeks so will talk him around. Booking in apt on 22nd so will speak to mw then but no one thinks anything is wrong at the moment. They did write on my notes that I may have an 11mm endometrium, does anyone know what that is? Although they also wrote that the couldn't see my left ovary and from previous scans I definitely know its there!!

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 12:29

I would want another scan to so understand where you are coming from. Hopefully you can talk your other half round. Really sorry I can't help with the other queries but hopefully one of the other ladies can help.

OP posts:
extracrunchy · 11/06/2013 13:19

MrsV the endometrium thing is when you have a bit of womb tissue growing in your cervix - I have endometriosis, it's supposed to improve during pregnancy (hormones) and doesn't affect pregnancy.

Humpty which tests need to be done at certain times??

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 13:28

Extra with regards timelines, the downs test needs to be by 13+6. You can get other downs screening tests if you miss this though.

mythree oh god yes - gaspy is EXACTLY the kind of nausea I get at dinnertime! Sort of have to pant my way through a handful of veg and a bite or two of protein, like I'm about to puke!
As for drinking, last night we had a wine reception, I took a glass, kept 'sipping' it (didn't actually drink any), put it down and picked up a water instead and no one looked! As long as you pick up a wine really obviously ('oooooh, lovely, a big glass of white! Just what I need'), I don't think they'll twig.

enormouse maternity wear is shit. Mothercare don't seem to go beyond an E cup in most of their maternity bras - FFS, I was DD before we even got going on the Giant Growing Breasts of Pregnancy Tale. I can imagine it's as shit at the slim/shorter end of the scale as it is at the fatter/taller end (me!) - apparently only 5'5" size 12s get pg.

mrsV like Pod said - if there is a hb, you are at the point you were at last time, but all is well (today at least - not being morbid, but I can understand you might be feeling a bit disbelieving). Take heart from that - if you get to tomorrow, you'll have got past that point, and the hb will be very likely still there. I'd def lobby hard for another scan though! 5 weeks is a HELL of a long wait if you have serious worries/doubts.

extra the NT must be done by 13+6, or the translucency is gone, and no chance to have an early, non-intrusive look:
NT testing HTH.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 13:34

Ha, pod beat me to it!

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 13:37

Ha ha sorry Humpty Grin

I know its really early days but I've just been to tesco and picked up 2 packs of 25 newborn pampers for 1.50 each, plus a 50 pack for 3.33 in slightly bigger size. V cheap. I do plan to use cloth but wanted a few disposables for emergencies / until I convince DP ;) Could t resist that deal!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 13:48

blue that's reassuringly cheap! I'm gonna do the same - cloth, but some disps until we get the hang of it/for overnight.

Talking of such, I know some people are anti 'clubs', but I just received my 'Beaming Baby' (vom-worthy name) pack, with three free eco-nappies and some bumpf, and my Aptaclub pack with the CUTEST white polar bear toy (admittedly with Aptaclub stitched on one side, but still). I don't mind the spam so much. Still got a few to sign up to.

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 13:51

Blue don't blame you. DF and I have agreed not to buy anything until we get NT 12 week scan done. We are making a day of it if all goes well with scan . We plan on going shopping for baby stuff together post scan... Really looking forward to it....

OP posts:
Bluecarrot · 11/06/2013 14:04

I didn't plan to buy before 12 weeks either but figured I could make an exception for that. In fact unless its a super sale offer, I'm not buying anything til 6-7 months at least.

I'm "virtually" shopping plenty though- a nice spreadsheet is full if essentials plus a few fun things :)

MrsVDB · 11/06/2013 14:09

humpty I got the polar bear. Sign up to cow and gate also as you get a cow!

Thank you extra after googling I thought it meant my whole lining could come out in 1 mould thing!!

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 14:12

Blue love the spreadsheet organisation.... Grin

Mrsv I am having the same at the moment. Measured a week behind and got the talk that it could mean everything slowing down. Also saw HB but as I found I was pregnant nearly 4 weeks ago this friday, they seemed worried.

Pregnancy symptoms have flooded back toady though. By my dates I am 7+3 by their dates 6+3

I have a scan next Tuesday to determine viability.

MrsVDB · 11/06/2013 14:21

4athome I'm also 7+3 and they think I'm 6+4. Good luck. Hopefully we will both be fine :) the wait is awful

4athomeand1cooking · 11/06/2013 14:29

I am sure it will be. I have a gut feeling about these things Grin

In one of my previous pregnancys my waters burst at 12 weeks and I was bleeding. When to epu and they said that cervix was open and I was having a classic miscarriage. I had to go back the next day. That night I told my mum and dh that everything would be fine. Over the following weeks the hospital were surprised how long it was taking and I bled heavily for 8 weeks. They were surprised to find that my cervix had closed and the waters had replenished. My dd did lose an arm due to the bands left floating in the amniotic fluid but she is now a very healty 7 yo.

I have come to appreciate just how strong our beans really are and the medical profession at this early stage can only guess as much as us.

It is also entirely possible that the sonographers measurements were wrong by a mm or so and you may find they readjust your dates again at your next scan x

VeryHappyMama · 11/06/2013 14:44

Thanks LittePeaPod.
Congratulations to everyone, sorry I haven't read all the posts I've only just found this thread and there are rather a lot...
I was wondering if different areas did scans differently. I will be waiting until my 12 week scan but will be getting a private scan to find out if having a boy or a girl. Not that I mind either way, just excited to find out.
I've heard that they no longer listen for the heart beat at your 8 week appointment does anyone know if this is true?

Vatta · 11/06/2013 14:49

I've had my 8 week booking in appointment and they didn't listen for a heartbeat, have to wait for my 12 week scan. Everything seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery though so it may be different elsewhere.

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 14:58

Ladies with odd dates and spotting - fingers firmly crossed for you all! 4athome that's amazing! It does just go to show how resilient (sp?) they can be! What a fantastically happy ending! As you say, they are only guessing what may or may not happen - very frustrating playing the waiting game!!!

It has been really hard when buying things for friend's babies not to buy "one for them and one for me!" I am definitely not buying anything until later on - perhaps after the 20 week scan - then go on a massive splurge!!! Popped into Mamas and Papas however for the first time at the weekend with my Mum and I had to get out of there quickly before I started buying everything! Soooo tempting - was starting to visualise my LO on a play mat and saw a fab travel cot that would be perfect to take to Mum and Dads! Arghhhhh! Must not let myself back in there again for a while!!!

Well nausea has rocked up a couple of hours early today - fricking marvellous! Tonight is the night we are going round to DH's family for a big get together (not telling them yet) and of course it would be the day of worst nausea plus (TMI alert) things not so great at the other end either! We won't even be able to make our excuses and leave early because they are visiting from abroad! Can't describe the feelings of dread I have - will be going over there about 7pm...normally in bed by 9.30pm, so this should be interesting! I just really want to get through it without vomming or shitting myself (literally - Confused)!

MrsVDB · 11/06/2013 14:58

At the scan today the lady said they don't listen for heartbeats early due to the heat the Doppler generates?

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 14:58

Very at my 8 week MW appointment she didn't listen for the heart. It was the usual form filling etc. also I got my bloods done at week 5 but most ladies seem to have had their bloods done at their 8 week appointment. She also booked my 12 week scan then..
