Meant to say welcome "veryhappy"! Congratulations! My booking in was at 10 weeks and she said they won't listen for the heartbeat until 16 weeks!

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 15:04

Sultanajo. Loving the one for you, one for me..... Another for me and maybe that one there for me..... Grin. OMG my thoughts are with you... I would struggle to go out at 7pm.. Normally gettin ready for bed then... I hope it passes quickly for you..

Lol Pod - yep, another one and another one and maybe just that one too for me!!! Grin! Thanks very much - DH really doesn't realise what a nightmare it is for me in the evenings! Wish it had been Sunday night when I didn't feel too bad. Typical!!!

enormouse · 11/06/2013 15:06

bluecarrot could you share what's on your spreadsheet please? Luckily the stuff from DS is still serviceable and in quite good condition. Though I do want to get a sling/carrier and an electric breastpump (practically gave myself rsi using my manual one).

4athome that is amazing. They are so resilient.

Unfortunately, I'm still registered for most babyclubs under toddlermouse's name so I can't get any free cows or polar bears. Hipp and pampers clubs are quite good too. Don't forget asda/sainsbos/tesco and boots parenting clubs for offers/points and vouchers.

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 15:14

LolSultanajo. And maybe that one there, just for luck. You can never have too many of those...... Lol. I had on heart do not think I could do it... I really really fel for you...

Lol Pod! That cracked me up!

I have no choice, am beginning to think "feck it - if I end up in the toilet all evening so be it!" (although in reality I would be mortified and extremely pissed off to have to be in that situation in the first place, although perhaps I will just make DH tell them at that point, so they don't think I am a complete weirdo!!!) If only they had come over a couple of weeks later!

VeryHappyMama · 11/06/2013 15:35

Sultanajo I hope your evening goes ok. I had to tell some family early for the same reason. Really didn't want to.
I've got my 8 week appointment then another appointment two weeks later for my bloods no idea why...
They listened for the heartbeat at my 8 week scan with DS but I vaguely remember someone saying they were going to stop doing it altogether at midwife appointments and would only get it at the scans. I bought a Doppler last time as I was quite anxious will have to have a rake and see if I kept it. Would really like the peace of mind of hearing it...

Mythreeknights · 11/06/2013 15:38

Just thought I'd point out that my nausea is 36 minutes late - only just kicking in now. Anyone else starting to feel pukesome?
Also - what's this about 8 week mw checks? I'm 8 weeks and haven't heard a dicky bird from anyone (saw GP last week so perhaps I'm just catching up with all the millions of other pg people in this very rural area Hmm

LittlePeaPod · 11/06/2013 15:44

Mythree I booked my MW appointments through my surgery. Didn't bother with GP as the are as useful as chocolate fire guards in these circumstances.

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 15:45

veryhappy it's really annoying and the reason we aren't telling them is because DH's Mum is still abroad and it wouldn't be right to tell them before her. Arghhhhh!

My midwife told me she wouldn't listen for the heartbeat this early because often they can't find it and it stresses mum's out - well I can imagine it would!!!

Mythree it's sooooo different depending on where you are in the country, which is just so incredibly annoying. A lot of places (as with mine) you have to just wait for your letter and hope you can make the appointment at a minute's notice. Other places the midwife arranges it for you at your booking appointment and at others you phone up yourself (which seems the most sensible option to me, but hey ho!)

Feeling very pukesome early here too - perhaps it's the change in weather???

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 15:47

mythree totally misread what you had written! I had to register that I was preggers at my GP practice, fill in some forms and they then said the midwife would be in touch to arrange booking in....

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 15:57

mythree I didn't get an 8 week appt, my booking in will be at 10+5. It varies. Like everything on the NHS.

Just have to rant a sec, don't mind me.
So, the new person at work: the one who's being paid SIGNIFICANTLY more than the other two of us, the one who couldn't start for two MONTHS due to her 'notice period' (aka holiday) - apparently she also can't do the same weekend work the rest of us do. Even though (AFAIK) it was in the advert and should be in her contract. We all do ~ 8-10 weekends (Saturday) a year, and get TOIL. She can't do any until No-FUCKING-Vember. Which means as far as that side of work is concerned, we are STILL understaffed. I am so furious I am struggling not to spit/cry/go home. I fucking hate my cunting job.

Rant over. Sorry ladies. Had to get that off my chest.

enormouse · 11/06/2013 15:59

It does vary a lot. Here in ni, I went to gp and then gp contacted the midwives and they sent out the appointments for booking and the first scan together. About a week/10 days after I went to the gp.

I am really at the end of my tether with the toddler. Have tried to put him down for a nap about 4 times. (Since 2ish). He is tired, whingy, grumpy etc. he's had lunch and been changed and isn't thirsty. He has to take his nap now, any later and he won't sleep at bedtime. It's making me feel sick and dizzy whenever I have to go upstairs and check on him. To make things worse He grins when he sees me. Like he's won. I am almost crying and feel so crappy.

I am pretty tempted to call my DP and ask him to come home early. Sorry, self pitying moan over. Just needed to vent.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 16:05

Enormouse oh you poor love. Can you sit down, have a drink and put your feet up for 20 mins (ignore him - he'll survive?) and hopefully make yourself feel a bit better?
If he goes to sleep a bit later, that's annoying, but he'll survive. You sound like you need the rest much more. xx

enormouse · 11/06/2013 16:06

humpty can we swap? I'll trade my boundary testing toddler for your irritating (future?) colleague?

It's finally gone silent so I think he's asleep at last. I'm going to make myself some potato waffles.

sobs quietly and rocks in the corner

Bluecarrot · 11/06/2013 16:08

Its funny cause you live in the same heath and social trust to me Enormouse but I just went straight to calling the midwife and had an over the phone booking-in appointment and she sent off referral for scan. Ill see her 4-6 weeks after the scan next Monday!

And Id stick him in front of tv and snuggle up on sofa with him. Go easy on yourself!

VeryHappyMama · 11/06/2013 16:08

Mythree You don't see the GP where i am either when you are pregnant just go straight to the midwife for an 8 week appointment. I guess it's different in different areas.
Yes I would panic if they couldn't find a heartbeat at the first appointment guess I was lucky they did last time and am just looking for reassurance everything is ok which 12 weeks feels a long time to wait for.

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 16:21

Oh bloody hell humpty that really does take the piss! Why the hell did they employ her if she can't do the things you need her to? What a load of shite!!!

enormouse thank god he is asleep! I can only imagine how you feel - it's bad enough feeling rough when you are just trying to take care of yourself, but with a toddlermouse it must be soooo hard! Have a good cry - you deserve it! Mmmmm, potato waffles - why haven't I got any of those in the house! Really really want some now!!!

Well my useless as a chocolate teapot GP told me it would be OK to take immodium during pregnancy - am getting a bit desperate now so dug some out and then in a moment of paranoia though I would just check online - both the NHS website and the Immodium website say don't take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding! So bloody glad I checked and I am DEFINITELY gonna change my GP now - fecks sake! Where did he qualify from?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/06/2013 16:26

enormouse deal. We'd each probably find each others' situation easier for the moment - distance and perspective and all! Well done you, though. I am sure he was smiling from love, but I can SO see how it might have seemed gloating.

sultana you tell me. Actually, I know why - it's cos my boss is a cuntdonkey... I don't want to curse anything, or set the devil on the fence, but ROLL ON MAT LEAVE!
Your GP is a twat - FFS! I am sure it would have had no real ill effects, but still. We are understandably paranoid concerned!

Mythreeknights · 11/06/2013 16:32

Hmm sultana well my useless GP said taking chloramphenical for my acute conjunctivitis (both eyes, both half shut, both swollen, both gunky) when I 'might have been pg' (as it turns out, I was) would be ok. It's not ok. Apparently it can cause 'gray baby syndrome'
I did ask if it was safe, he did read his MIMS book, said it was fine in first trimester. So, there we go, but I'm not going to panic - apparently 3rd trimester is worse for chloramphenical and as far as I can tell if the nugget hadn't implanted into my uterous yet then it shouldn't have been affected by the drug. Or would it? (should I panic?!)

Sultanajo · 11/06/2013 16:55

Well mythree I took immodium quite early on too because I had an important meeting and the shits and I was about 4 weeks then, and LO is still happily in there (well was last week...) so I wouldn't worry too much about a one off, but the fact that we could have happily carried on throughout pregnancy, totally oblivious to the risks really pisses me off! You ask them because you trust them, because they have had the medical training and you haven't. You don't expect to then have to double check. He didn't even look it up - straight away he said it was fine, so the fact that he didn't even look it up made me think "oh it must be totally safe then"..... Humpty he is a twat - you are right!

Humpty I am with you! As you say, without jinxing things, roll on Mat Leave! There are soooo many issues at the moment, I really can't wait to distance myself!

enormouse · 11/06/2013 17:04

bluecarrot larne and Carrick are covered by the northern trust (I think) so I would assume they'd use the same system but I did see a locum gp.
sultanajo all gps are given a formulary which has every drug on the market, dosages and side effects, whether it's safe for pg/bfing, listed in it. And I think it's updated every year or so. (I studied to be a vet briefly, and there's a veterinary version). If he says not sure or whatever, ask him to consult his formulary to doublecheck. No doctor bothers to learn every single drug because they have this book. I only learnt things for pharmacology exams and then forgot them.
