Thank-you all for the warm welcome.

claphammama - did you mention ages ago that you are due to give birth at Kingston Hospital? (apologies if I've mixed you up with another poster) I know it was a good few years ago now but I had DD there and had a fantastic birth experience. If you meet a male midwife call David please pass on my much belated thanks!

It was very busy though and found it wasn't so hot on post-natal care. This time around - all being well - it will be East Surrey Hospital and I feel a bit sad I'm not going back to Kingston.

roofio glad all went well with the scan.

Welcome bridget and penelope

I have heard of miss scanning in RL they thought they was having a girl and done lots of status updates on Facebook 'can't wait to meet our baby girl' etc etc and actually had a baby boy. Not heard of it the other way round though.

Was just gunna ask the same clapham about the colour of textbooks buggy? I ordered my oyster with the grape colour pack before I knew baby's sex as I was sure I was having a girl and I seriously need to call them and change it to a more masculine colour lol

Didn't end up needing an X-ray at the dentist but I'm not sure what's worse that I need anti biotics? My wisdom tooth is infected :-( never had this in my life before

Glad everyone's scans and re scans are running smoothly :-) I keep telling dh about the boy/girl ratio on here and he has a little chuckle to himself about it. My friend who is due a week after me 21/10 found out she is having a girl so that's quite exciting for us to having one of each sex I think specially as I no longer need to panic she will give birth first and choose the name we choose lol

Tarlia · 07/06/2013 17:59

As others have said, mistaking boys for girls is much more likely. I've known it happen to a couple of people, typically went pink mad for first child, only for everyone to rush out buying blue/boy gifts. It doesn't happen very often though, so hope I didn't panic anyone!!

claphammama · 07/06/2013 18:00

bridget I gave birth to DS in Kingston almost 5 years ago :-) When did you have your DD? I also had a great experience despite the fact that my birth didn't go according to plan. The midwives were lovely and, because I had a long and painful birth without pain relief, they gave me a private room with private bathroom so I didn't have to stay in the post-natal ward and got some rest. So sweet... and made so much difference. They also helped me a lot with first feeds - I struggled with one nipple. I know a couple of girls here are going to Kingston this time - orange and I can't remember who else...

I would love to go to Kingston this time but am too far now and they don't provide ante-natal and post-natal care in Clapham... so going to Guy & St. Thomas instead. Anyone else? They have a very good reputation but does anyone have any first hand (so to speak :-) experience?

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 07/06/2013 18:24

Clapham I had DD back in December 2006. We used to live in East Sheen so Kingston was our nearest maternity department (although all my scans etc were over at St Mary's in Roehampton).

I'm very envious of the private room Envy but not the long, painful birth prior! I was very lucky that DD arrived pretty sharpish. Unfortunately, I didn't get much help establishing breastfeeding before I was discharged, and, once home, things rapidly went downhill. It was right before Christmas though and the staff were really stretched. I was also a bit naive about it all and didn't push enough for the help I needed.

pinkbuttons · 07/06/2013 18:43

Dont worry too much about antibiotics natalie there are some that are safe in pregnancy. im on my second lot of them with my second UTI today. My Dr said that antibiotics are much safer for baby than having any sort of infection. Hope your feeling better soon.
Congrats on positive scans Smile
My parents were told my brother was a girl too and got a shock when he was born, that was 10 years ago too though.

textbook · 07/06/2013 19:34

clapham and natalie - it's the denim limited edition fabric, but I think we will get a bright coloured nest to cheer it up a bit. What colours do you like? I'm having a girl (unless mis-scanned Blush) but am not fussed about everything being pink at all.

Sorry to hear about the wisdom tooth infection - there's no pain quite like it. They can deffo give you safe antibiotics though, and its probably worse for the baby to have all that infection in your body than it will be to take them, so don't worry Smile

Natalieand · 07/06/2013 19:46

textbook think we are gunna go for the lime green colour pack for the oyster xx

OrangeBlossom2 · 07/06/2013 20:32

Congrats scanners and smitten on your cleaning spree. I think my DH is nesting too. He emptied all the office. Furniture out of babies room and ripped down an old wardrobe today as a nice surprise when I got back from work. W have been doing lots of clearing out.

Yes I am gong to kingston (The MLU). Welcome again Bridget and Penelope.

Another teacher at school announced she is pregnant today, that's four of us now. It seems to be contagious. Probably lots of opportunity for potential part time work if I decided I wanted to go back though really don't fancy it at the moment.

Whoever had tummy pain today, me too and I look huge, definitely stretching at the moment.

MrsO27 · 07/06/2013 21:33

Hi everyone, good scan today, all well and how it should be but I'm also joining the anterior placenta club!

Natalieand · 07/06/2013 21:52

Did u find out baby's gender mrs0? Congrats on everything being well :-)

MrsO27 · 07/06/2013 22:06

Thanks natalie and no, they don't tell you where i live. The local NHS were sued a couple of times for getting it wrong so now have posters up saying "don't ask us the gender as we won't blinkin' tell you" or words to that effect! Smile We're in the surprise camp.

MrsO27 · 07/06/2013 22:10

....But happy to be in the surprise camp I should add. There are lots of private places we could go to but we're happy waiting until the birth.

terrifiednewbie · 07/06/2013 22:15

wow things move fast-just reading through the thread now. glad all is going well legally and great news about all the scans!

Im also booked at guys and tommies clapham although i have a feeling i'll end up delivering near work for some reason! i have this nesting urge but i think its more to do with the fact that i am sick of waiting to complete on our new home and having everything in storage.

Had a fab trip away until flight delay of 48hrs- am still absolutely furious with virgin Atlantic for the shoddy service but at least its the weekend!Smile

Natalieand · 07/06/2013 22:16

I have to say I admire those who choose to wait until baby's birthday too find out the gender I wish I could but unfortunately I'm such an impatient person it wouldn't be possible lol

Smitten1981 · 07/06/2013 22:46

Terrified - I think you can claim reimbursement if your flight is that delayed. In case you haven't already.

Flyer747 · 07/06/2013 22:54

Terrified I work for Virgin Atlantic, you should contact customer services if you're not happy! Where were you flying back from?

terrifiednewbie · 07/06/2013 22:57

i think virgin are bring inundated with complaints from our flight and the earlier inbound one. flyer-from cancun.

Flyer747 · 07/06/2013 23:02

Oh dear....did they put you up somewhere? I had heard ( via Facebook) that the flight had been badly delayed! I guess you are entitled to claim back for delays, so give it a whirl, and it's always worth sending a letter or email to customer services, I always tell my passengers too if they aren't happy. I guess if you have to be delayed anywhere then cancun isn't a bad place to be delayed :-) did you enjoy Mexico apart from that?

Irishfairy · 07/06/2013 23:02

I've actually heard of three cases recently of the scanner being wrong and saying it was a boy but baby turned out to be a girl!!! One was my aunt's daughter, they were very surprised! The other was the third child of an acquaintance who had two boys already, the mum had really wanted a girl so was thrilled when their 3rd "boy" was a little girl! Not to panic anyone though, I'm sure it is a rare mistake!

roofio87 · 07/06/2013 23:13

Hehe getting the gender wrong is a scary thought, although I've had two different sonographers tell us boy now.and I saw some very boyish looking parts today so feeling fairly certain. once the baby is here I'm sure I wouldn't really care to be honest!!

GTbaby · 07/06/2013 23:22

Sounds like quite a few ladies are around/in the Kingston part of London!
My nov12 post natal group have so many meet ups unfortunately most in bham or Glasgow! So I've never been. Nice to know there is potential for a meet up locally with some lovely ladies from this group Grin

MotherOfNations · 07/06/2013 23:33

I've not had a chance to read through the thread today. Maybe TMI but I've been suffering from really bad constipation. I bought some fibre sachets and syrup of figs on the way back from my scan yesterday but nothing is working.
I went to bed at 4.30 yesterday afternoon and stayed there until a couple of hours ago when I decided to phone NHS 24 who sent me to the out of hours service at hospital, but all they've done is prescribe senna tablets. On my way home in the bus now feeling miserable.

Irishfairy · 07/06/2013 23:39

Sorry to hear you are suffering MoN, really hope something works and you feel better... What about a warm bath?
I am suffering too in another way, definitely TMI but if I can't share it on here then where can I? Last Saturday had a lovely afternoon/evening at an open air music event in my town. Spent almost the entire time sat on the hard, cold ground and well now I have the dreaded piles Hmm they really are not nice!!! Hope no one else as the pleasure of suffering through them!

PenelopeLane · 08/06/2013 00:09

Ow to piles.

Thanks for the welcomes Smile

I HOPE that the scan wasn't wrong re having a girl as i have bought a lot of girly clothes since finding out Grin At least if they're wrong I have all of DS's stuff to use I suppose.
