Birth story: TMI WARNING

Well, this went much faster than no #1! Latent phase was very much the same, about 22 hours at home before going in to the hospital.

Once checked in, I asked for gas and then epidural. Got gas, and the midwife recommended sterile water injections as I was really feeling it in my back. I remember reading about this for DS1 and thinking "no thanks" but she convinced me, so I agreed. It hurt like hell!! Thank whoever for being out of it on gas at the time! I think it possibly helped, my back did seem to go numb afterwards, but I don't think I would recommend them...

I was all getting very intense and I begged asked for the epidural. Midwife set me up and rang for the anesthetist. He arrived and had put in the local, ready to put in the big needle, when DS2 decided he was ready to arrive. My water broke, and within about 3 pushes, was here! (With DS1 I pushed for about 45 minutes and was exhausted).

Overall impressions: I am so glad that's over, no more wondering when or how bad... In hindsight, it was fast and relatively easy (bwa ha ha - like labour is ever easy). And now we have a wonderful little man lying here, ready to get to know!

Oh - and from arrival at hospital to DS joining the world was about 1 1/2 hours! Glad I didn't wait until contractions were actually 4 minutes apart, but went in earlier because I wanted pain relief!

Congrats rhienne Smile

wrigglerchick · 16/05/2013 20:29

Congratulations Rhienne! :-)

tasmaniandevilchaser · 16/05/2013 20:31

Hiya purr, they just told me the time for the induction, no negotiating done. Hope it goes ok x

tasmaniandevilchaser · 16/05/2013 20:31

Oh and you're not intruding purr! Stick around, we'll transform into a post natal group soon

BeauticianNotMagician · 16/05/2013 20:35

Congratulations Rhienne sounds like quite a nice birth story I would be happy with that.

You ladies with an induction date must be pleased to have the end in sight. I presume I will get my date when I go to midwife next Wednesday.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 16/05/2013 20:37

Rhienne, congrats! Glad it's all over and you have your baby now. And thanks for the tip about the water injection, not even heard of it before and I had raging backache with DD

Beaut, thanks for the labour vibes, fx that mini tas is listening!

Good luck to everyone else waiting, won't be long now

babygeek · 16/05/2013 20:43

Hey Rhienne, that's great news. Congrats x

cuppateaandagingersnap · 16/05/2013 21:35

Congratulations frus and rhiene!

40+1 today and had sweep at MW appt, apparently 2-3cm dilated but funnelling rather than effaced. I didn't find it uncomfortable really at all but I had taken a couple of paracetamol before I went in case it was so maybe that helped? Have been walking/bouncing all day too but still barely a twinge, think I just have to resign myself to waiting (im)patiently!

lollypopsicle · 17/05/2013 07:37

Congratulations rhienne great brith story. Enjoy your little man Smile

Well I vomited until there was nothing left last night before bed. I wondered if it was a sign. Have felt period like aches and sporadic contractions all night but it was nothing consistent/regular or that painful yet. Really hoping this is the start of things, though.

In other news the scan went fine so still on track for a home birth. She is definitely a girl so I can stop worrying about needing to prepare for the possibility of a boy.

Reckon I need to get some floors scrubbed today Grin

39+1

BeauticianNotMagician · 17/05/2013 07:53

CupOfTea Ill be joining you in the waiting. I'm fed up trying things now. All the ball is doing is making me need a wee all the timeGrin This lil man will come when he's ready. Tight now I feel like my body is going to refuse to labour spontaneously this time and that he may need a helping hand.

Lolly That sounds positive at least something is happening. Hopefully today will be the day you go into full blown labour. Good luck.

40+1

DXBMermaid · 17/05/2013 08:45

No signs here yet either. Just feel quite a lot of preassure 'down there' front and back...

Deceiding what to do today... Cook, clean, shop, go out for with friends or relax. Feeling quite well today so thinking I should make the most of it.

Rhienne congrats! And thanks very much for sharing your birth story.

MammaBrussels · 17/05/2013 09:07

Congratulations Rienne, I'm encouraged to hear your second was faster than your first.

Still waiting here, and getting rather fed up. I had a really emotional day yesterday, couldn't stop crying, getting really angry with everything and everyoe and I have no energy at all.

I'm still having tiny tightenings which occasionally become mild period like pains and lots of TMI thick discharge. Got a Drs appointment later so will have a word with him about getting things started. Feeling enormous now, have a disgusting double chin and just want to get the delivery over with. DH doesn't really get why I'm sick of waiting which is pissing me off too.

40 + 4

Inthesleeplessnightgarden · 17/05/2013 09:07

Ladies, I've been following this group since the very beginning, just never posted. Think I might join you when it turns post natal though if that's ok. Just wanted to give some hope to those waiting to be induced. My DS2 was due 1 May and I had absolutely no twinges, shows or anything else going on so after 2 attempted but failed sweeps went in to be induced on 11 May at 10 days over. Midwife on ante natal ward checked me out, said she could feel very bulgy waters so sent me straight up to delivery unit as she didn't think gel or anything would be necessary. They broke my waters at 5 pm, I went for something to eat and a walk, contractions started. Notes say established labour at 8pm and baby born at 10.10pm weighing 9lb 5. No drip or anything needed and just gas an air.

My hospital told me to call at 2pm to check they weren't full with emergencies, and that once they've started an induction they won't allow you home.

So not always a bad experience (though ds1 was induced at term, and took 25 hours, 2 pessaries, syntocin drip and forceps. Think he'd still be in there if he'd been allowed!).
Good luck to those of you waiting, my experience is let the cook as long as you can.

babygeek · 17/05/2013 11:18

Congrats sleepless, Thanks for sharing your birth story. Glad to hear your had a pretty straightforward labour with induction. Now you get some lovely newborn cuddles Smile

TMI alert, after having some irregular contractions 15-30 mins last night after my sweep, contractions stopped at bed time and I woke up just once for a pee and felt a small contraction. I guess I could have been having them all night and not noticed if they were just mild. Anyways, lost my mucus plug this morning woohoo! it is pretty gross I have to say but DP and I were very excited about it, oh dear Grin

Hoping that it means baby is on the way but not felt any more contractions Confused I was reading about long latent labours and some people mentioned that when labour does establish, it can be really rapid, eek! Will have to be on high alert as hospital is 20-40 mins away depending on traffic.

Have arranged to meet with a friend from London and her partner for a late lunch at our village pub tomorrow as they are up in Manchester for the weekend. I hope I can change that to newborn cuddles at ours.

Come on slacker May babies!!

For anyone interested in some stats on baby arrival, there is a great website - spacefem. I am not sure how to link it but if you just type that into google then it should be the first page that comes up. Apparently I have a 10% probability of going into spontaneous labour today. Not sure if that is comforting or not, I would prefer 100%!

scooby26 · 17/05/2013 12:24

Morning.

Congrats to all the new arrivals!

Bit fed up here- though unfairly I suppose as
Only 39w! That said I would have bet
Money on DC2 arriving
Early... Hmmmm. No way I can imagine going 2 wks over and still being here in 3 wks!

Saw midwife today for BP check. Back to normal so no excuse to bring things on sadly. Apparant sweep here is 41 wks.... Not that I'd let HER do it anyway....

No signs at all ! :-(

Baby geek- my waters broke within hours of show last time so here's hoping for u!

InNeedofSomeSleep · 17/05/2013 12:29

My little girly is here 3 days late

Her full name is Kathryn Jane Doris Brown but we will call her Kate. named after husbands mum, my mum and husbands nan.
She was born this morning at 7.27am and weighed 7lb2. Were just waiting on the ward now to get home to her big sister who I have missed so much. This is the longest I have been away from her and it was only a night. Was another quick labour, came in at 4am wad 3/4 cm dilated so had diamorphine and a bit of gas coz the pain was horrible. Didn't have water birth was way to comfy on the bed dozing in-between contractions. So glad it's all done now tho she is snoring away next to me as I type.

Hope everyone is doing ok will update stats and read through today's posts when I'm home later and finally had some sleep. Been up since Thursday 6.30am starting to get a bit sleepy now

TigerSwallowTail · 17/05/2013 13:31

Congratulations inneed, and welcome to the world little Kathryn!

DXBMermaid · 17/05/2013 13:43

Inneed congratulations! Little Kate sounds like a dream and glad you had a quick delivery.

babygeek interesting site. Will show it to DH as he likes numbers and was commenting today that he finds the wait worse then Christmas.

TerracottaPie · 17/05/2013 13:51

Congratulation Rhienne and InNeed!!

After the slow start to actual born in May babies I'm struggling to keep up with all the new arrivals now! Sorry to anyone if I've missed you.

sleepless congratulations to you too. And yes of course come to the post natal thread when it gets done :)

40+10 today. Induction tomorrow. I don't mind as such but I'd rather not have all the hanging around that comes with it. Trying to explain to my Mum that they can't and won't just start things off as soon as we arrive at 8am was hard work. I know exactly what wards are like at that time of the morning...
