Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Artichook · 10/05/2013 13:23

Sorry guys, half my post didn't show up. Basically she said there was loads of blood and protein in my wee and it was probably an infection and to get ABs from my GP. I pointed out it was Friday and I'd never get to see the GP today and her response was "oh well, you will be induced on Monday so just leave it!". Then I questioned whether we needed to worry about the protein as my BP was also up and I have the history of pre-eclampsia and she said "no it's just an infection". Not sure I trust her to know that. Then she swept me and said my cervix is less favourable than 48 hours ago (yeah right, maybe she just messed-up 48 hours ago).

When I then said I wouldn't want an induction on Monday is my cervix was the same she said "luckily that's not my problem, talk to the doc on Monday". Oh and when she was examining me she covered me with an already used paper sheet: yuk, I could see gel on it and everything.

Arti your midwife sounds horrible. How rude is she. I would make a complaint about her.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 10/05/2013 14:03

Oh arti glad you're back with an update, thought you'd suddenly gone into labour mid post! your mw sounds awful! Can you beg for an urgent appt with a GP today? Our GP has phone consultations where they 'triage' you and call you in if they need to. I've forgotten why you're being induced at 39 wks

Zorra · 10/05/2013 14:28

Arti I would also complain, and maybe get a second opinion so you don't spend the weekend worrying. Poor you :(

TigerSwallowTail · 10/05/2013 14:28

"luckily that's not my problem,"

Shock arti definitely complain.

beaver33 · 10/05/2013 14:37

Yeah Arti am so glad you came back! Thought something awful might have happened mid-sentence there... I think your midwife is actually professionally incompetent and you should make an immediate complaint. You clearly know that yourself - no midwife should dismiss what could be the signs of pre-eclampsia, regardless of how close your induction date is. I think the thing that came through most clearly from your post was the fact that she really didn't seem to give a sh*t and that worries me enormously.

Trust your instincts, and if you feel you need to see someone else today then go straight into your nearest maternal assessment unit for a second opinion.

I hope that doesn't come across as overly dramatic, and I also don't mean to unnecessarily worry you. But you've always come across as being the pragmatic sort and the most important thing at this stage is that you feel cared for and that you feel you and your baby are in safe hands. If you don't, do something about it.

No-one will think you're being overly paranoid.

Hope it all works out and you're managing not to flip your lid about that stupid woman - honestly, that sort of dismissive care makes me so livid. Take care.

MammaBrussels · 10/05/2013 14:48

Zorra, sorry to hear your DP hasn't sorted himself out. It sounds like you're dealing with a difficult situation in the best way for your and your DC. Stay strong.

Arti your midwife sounds incredibly unprofessional, I'd make a complaint she shouldn't be treating anyone in that way.

BeauticianNotMagician · 10/05/2013 16:30

Arti That is shocking Shock I would be straight on the phone to report her and if I were you I'd get to the hospital and get checked over. I'm sure all is fine but you won't rest without any reassurance and given your past history of PE better to be on the safe side.

Let us know ASAP how you are Smile

Livingwithmymother · 10/05/2013 16:42

Hi all,

Ng happy birthday to your dd

Well aren't these may babies living up to their Taurus traits being stubborn. Haha

Yesterday I had my 38 week appointment, I don't always see the same person, sometimes just student midwives. But
I had the head midwife and I geared myself up to tell her about my
Birth plan (it's not much just get baby out safely and I would like to be as active as possible ) and how crampy I been feeling every night and also my headaches.

She completely dismissed them ALL. She was very stand off-ish. I understand they are stretched but literally just told me there was something in my wee, I need to drink more, got students to do my bp, and measure the baby and listen to the baby. All this while her eyes never left the computer screen. At the end she said all the best and I just stood there thinking ooooookay. Wish I would of had the balls to stand up to her and say i haven't got the answers that I need. I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and my next appointment is at 40weeks 2 days. I feel com

Livingwithmymother · 10/05/2013 16:44
  • completely clueless, don't know if baby has engaged anymore, don't have a birth plan, don't know what happens about sweeps or induction. I have got a DS but he's 5 and everything is
Completely new again .
lollypopsicle · 10/05/2013 22:43

Once or twice a day, when baby is active, a clicking noise comes from my bump like she's cracking her knuckles in there or something! It's freaking me out a bit! Anyone else had this?

I googled, of course just to stress myself out. Think it's relatively common but there's no definitive answer as to what causes it. Confused

Sparklyboots · 10/05/2013 22:57

Evening everyone, I think I'm up, just sorting my stuff and ordering a taxi... 40+2. Would promise to keep you posted but am pretty sure I won't be doing very that requires attention for the next 12 hrs... Will let you know.

lollypopsicle · 10/05/2013 23:08

Good luck sparkly

BeauticianNotMagician · 10/05/2013 23:11

Sparkly Good luck. So exciting. I will be phone checking now for updates Grin

Lolly I haven't heard of what you describe I'm afraid. The only clicking I get is my hips with the Spd

rachywhite83 · 11/05/2013 02:30

lolly - my bump is the same ! I thought it was just me. DH does the same so I thought it was something he had passed on to the baby !

MammaBrussels · 11/05/2013 08:26

Lolly had to Grin idea of a baby cracking their knuckles menacingly in utero - she just letting you know who's in charge.

Good luck Sparkly, keep us posted.

We have the full retinue of grandparents in Brussels this weekend. Really feeling pressure to expel this child today. Sadly there are no signs that anything's coming. 39 + 5.

ng1412 · 11/05/2013 08:33

Mamma we have the same, both sets of grand parents over and now DD has had her birthday everyone is expcting baby to pop out today.

One set of grandparents fly back to the UK tomorrow. No pressure on me then....

BeauticianNotMagician · 11/05/2013 08:51

Ng Hope your dd has a lovely day. I have the opposite pressure to not have baby on Monday. It's ds2 7th birthday and he keeps reminding me no baby on his birthday. Either way I think their birthdays will end up so close together we will have to do joint parties. Really not sure how its going to work.

BeauticianNotMagician · 11/05/2013 08:53

I'm taking a chance today and getting my hair dyed. They happen to have an appointment and I'm fed up with sitting waiting for labour to start.

BeauticianNotMagician · 11/05/2013 09:07

Ng Ignore me. Your dd had her birthday. Sorry I can't remember anything just lately its driving DP mad. Well hopefully ill make it through ds birthday or baby will arrive this weekend. I'm thinking now more likely to go over Smile

beaver33 · 11/05/2013 09:46

Good luck Sparkly! So jealous!

Went for a curry last night and a long walk but all I can feel (I think) is wind Blush. Anyone else confused about whether the waves of cramping are back or front, so to speak?? I have near-constant low down pressure/pain at the moment and BH but can't work out if I'm about to give birth to a baby or a poo. Sorry, TMI. But quite honestly I have no shame or glamour left.

Bunnychan · 11/05/2013 10:29

beaver lol! I know what you mean! I get little cramps when I need the loo now!

lolly I hear that clicking noise from the top of my bump too sometimes. I have no idea what it is.

I've decided that I don't want baby to come yet as I'm full of a rotten cold and think labour would literally finish me off. So gutted I'm starting my mat leave feeling lousy.
38+2 x

lollypopsicle · 11/05/2013 11:04

Well at least I'm not the only one with a clicking bump!
bunny big respect for getting through the last week. Put your feet up! My auntie had flu and when she went into labour the symptoms went away. Once the baby was born the flu came back! Shock

I'm the same with toilet cramps too. Think I'm just hyper tuned in to any possible niggle!

betsyb75 · 11/05/2013 11:37

Hi -just checking in.

Lolly I have also had the clicking noise in my bump- it totally freaked me out! Glad not just me.
So I didn't have a sweep yesterday in the end, but have a date to be induced-next Friday 17th, unless he comes before then. Am scared!

Am struggling to do much, lots of pressure down there, I am 3/5 engaged, and have only had minor aches and BH at night time...I think he just really likes it in there-starting to worry there is no baby and it's just a massive cake!
Good luck to everyone, and have great weekends.

40 + 5- yikes

ng1412 · 11/05/2013 12:15

Beaut thanks anyway for the best wishes for my DD's birthday and thanks to the others who sent them too. Was a lovely day if very tiring and I am so glad that baby didn't make an appearance. I don't mind when it comes now, and of course it will be Wednesday at the latest anyway!

I am the same btw with my cramps, can't work them out at all.
