Running out of space over here so a new thread for all our fabulous birth stories!

Thanks, Beaut! Alice is doing fab. She's had the all clear about her eyes and got her 6-8 week check at GP tomorrow. She'll be 38+4, but I'm very proud to announce she's met most of the milestones anyway! She's still ridiculously teeny. 3lbs 15. She feeds really well so it's a bit frustrating.

How many babies now? More than a week into May and I can only think of two (?) born actually in May!

BeauticianNotMagician · 09/05/2013 18:58

Nofork Thats great news. Are they concerned about Alice's weight? Some babies are just small. My SILs 16 month old is teeny way below average for her age. Health visitors have flagged concerns and yet she eats anything and everything. There was a BBQ at weekend and Ive never seen someone so small eat so much.

I think there have been two so far in MayWirra and Roast . Reenypip is having a c section today

Boodstress · 09/05/2013 19:55

Congratulations Roast, beautiful birth experience you lucky duck, I wanted a water birth so much first time round. I am enjoying my little Alice so much - enjoy yours too. All these girls, I can't believe it x

MammaBrussels · 09/05/2013 20:05

Congratulations Roast, sounds like you had a really wonderful experience.

Zorra · 09/05/2013 20:29

Congrats, Roast and Alice, how lovely x

Rhienne · 09/05/2013 20:47

Congratulations Roast!

40+5 here and still waiting...

Congratulations Roast! :)

What does the show/plug like? This morning I found a big blob of clear discharge-y gluey like thing in my underwear, I initially thought it was the evening primrose oil tablet I had inserted in the night before, but just realised now the evening primrose oil tablet is actually yellow ... Could it be the plug??

TerracottaPie · 09/05/2013 21:32

Congratulations roast! You sound so very happy, it's lovely to read :)

NoForkNKnife · 09/05/2013 21:35

buttery could be the plug, but normally a bit bloody too.

beaut I think I'm more concerned than them. She is under the dietician and is having 3 formula ( preemie high cal stuff) to supplement the BM. I think it's making her constipated though.

Are there any more babies on their way soon?

Sparklyboots · 09/05/2013 21:58

Congratulations, roast what a lovely birth story.

I also have a very stroppy 2 year old, with a speciality in chucking stuff and cackling if he notices that he has pushed any buttons... I'm sort of glad it started before bub arrived or I'd have been despairing that he was in emotional turmoil - this way it's really clear that it's 'just' developmental - i.e. you have to ride it out rather than solve it. I think he is calming down a bit and we've had some more settled nights. I feel a bit rubbish that we are going to be throwing a baby into the mix while he's having a tough time, though.

TMI alert - IME, buttery the plug is very much like snot, more like snot than like cervical mucous. Sorry for the grossness but HTH...

Nowt happening here, despite having to do a full on sprint after wayward, scootering toddler down a very steep hill today. Poor chap is bruised and has massive scrapes on his (utterly beautiful) face. I haven't moved so quickly since before I had him and certainly not since being pregnant.

40+1

lollypopsicle · 09/05/2013 22:50

Glad I'm not the only one with a demanding 2yo. I'm worried about adding a baby to the mix as well. It's going turn his little world upside down for a bit!

Zorra · 10/05/2013 06:44

I have a demanding 3.5 yo who has regressed back to toddlerhood since we got back to the uk :( I'm torn between feeling really enraged by it all and feeling really sorry for him!

Vile vile heartburn back again, up since 4 feeling like I'm having a heart attack. I thought it had gone away then I ate a bar of chocolate before going to bed last night oops

Artichook · 10/05/2013 06:49

Snap Zorra, I've also been up since 4am with heartburn and extreme anxiety about labour. This isn't like me at all so rather disconcerting. I'm also obsessing about our lack of a name. I'm meant to go back for a second sweep this morn but I might not go as I'm so wound up!

Any news from your DP? I hope things are going better with him.

MammaBrussels · 10/05/2013 09:18

Whatever you do ButteryJam do not google mucus plug the images made me vom!

Another one wondering how to cope with a toddler and a newborn. He's just had a 15 minute meltdown because his pain au chocolat was 'broken down' - he'd taken a bite out of it!

mwncigirl · 10/05/2013 09:39

Hi everyone, we've got a not so angelic 3 yr old. I've got such a short temper at the moment and little energy to take him anywhere. How on earth will we manage when baby's here?!

Zorra · 10/05/2013 09:50

Thanks Arti, no news from DP so not expecting him for the birth. I know his disappearance is partly whats making DS such a nightmare and I feel really deeply sad for him Sad unfortunately I also feel exhausted and sorry for myself, and there's not quite enough of it to go round.

Sorry about your midnight waking, it sucks doesn't it? Everything feels so insurmountable at that time as well.

Hope everyone has a reasonable day!

InNeedofSomeSleep · 10/05/2013 10:03

Struggling with sleep here to, I'm waking at 5am most mornings and not napping in the day. DH just told me he is working late today now and also all weekend. Not looking forward to that at all.

Zorra I hope your little boy is ok and you have other family around to help
you.

Does anyone else take iron supplements in liquid form?? Mine is making me feel even more sick and lacking in energy once I have taken it. just wondered how other people are with it.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 10/05/2013 10:14

Hi all

Zorra, imagine DH going AWOL is the last thing you need right now, hope that you've got some support from your parents, weren't you moving back near them?

I'm miserable, MW appt yesterday, it was a student MW and she wasn't 100% sure but she thought the baby was posterior. Can't face the thought of another posterior labourSad I know the baby can move into a better position but I was so hoping for one of those births you hear about where the baby just pops out after an hour in the birthing pool. It's looking less and less likely as time goes on and induction looms.... I've got another 10 days before they'll induce but there really is no sign of labour.

ng1412 · 10/05/2013 10:43

Zorra that sounds so difficult for you, I hope your DP comes home soon.

DD's second birthday today, have family here, all presents were either Peppa Pig or Night Garden related, so DD is in her element!

And I had a show this morning, definitely my plug but no blood so hoping nothing happens today. We are off to Germany for lunch, so hope for no action although it is only about 10mins from Swiss border so quite near to my hospital. Keeping everything crossed baby doesn't decide to make an appearance today!

beaver33 · 10/05/2013 11:08

Morning all

I really feel for all of those with toddlers right now - hats off, dunno how you do it!

Zorra you sound so incredibly calm and accepting of what must be a really tough situation for you and your little boy. I hope you've got a good support network around you and hoping things improve.

Anyone know if labour can start without losing your plug/having a show?
Been having regular, periody-style cramps this morning for a while, on and off and my bump is really tight and low. Weirdly, my legs also feel different - like they've swollen and become really stiff. Finding it hard to move around! Holed up on the sofa with a hot water bottle, which is helping.

Haven't had a show or any other signal that things are kicking off, and I'm aware that this kind of thing can go on for days...but have told DH to have his phone on him, just in case!

39+4

scooby26 · 10/05/2013 11:27

Beaver... Labour can frustratingly start in a million ways and you don't have to have had a show first..... For those that do have it - it's obvious x

Artichook · 10/05/2013 11:32

Beaver, it's quite common not to have a show before labour. I didn't have one with DC1. Regular contractions sound promising but watch the legs, water retention in the limbs could be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

Zorra, you do sound brave about your P (I refuse to put the 'D' in his title). I hope your parents are being good and that he sorts himself out.

I just had a terrible midwife appointment. My BP
was up, I had loads of blood in my urine and prot"

BeauticianNotMagician · 10/05/2013 11:56

ButteryJam Mucous plug is very snot like (sorry) and both times mine were streaked with blood.

As Ive said out of my group of friends I'm the only one that had a show. My waters have also never broken until labour. Everyone labours differently.

Zorra Sorry to hear about your P. I know its hard but I would just concentrate on you, toddler and impending arrival. I would be in two minds whether to let P back should he come back. It sounds like he needs to grow up. I have no patience for men though having been treated badly in a past relationship I'm a bit of a hater. DP knows one blip and I'm gone. So just my mean opinion. I hope you have lots of support around you. Feel free to inbox me if you need a chat or just a rant about it all.

Arti Did you post too soon as your post kind of tailed off. Hope everything's ok and that you are being looked after. I'm hoping midwife Didnt give you that info and then leave you to it.

Well today's the day I had in my mind for labour don't know why and still nothing. Other than the fact I seriously cannot go ten mins without needing a wee. Anyone else with terrible back ache? My lower back has been hurting on and off for past few days its really bad today Sad

BeauticianNotMagician · 10/05/2013 11:58

Beaver both my last two labours started off with period cramps which ramped up over a number of hours. I laboured very slowly but again everyone's different.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 10/05/2013 12:18

Ng happy birthday to your DD!

Arti hope you're ok, is there a plan of action from your mw? Hope she hasn't just left you to it.
