smitten I don't drink a lot at the best of times and ketones can rise Very quickly. When I've been in hospital they become obsessed with the quantity your consuming! However, Nothing tastes right but I have just started dunking dilute tropical squash and that's going down well.

FeministInTraining · 10/04/2013 18:49

Welcome to Shootingstars -it must have taken you a while to digest the fact you have a fully fledged person in your tum- i still haven't and I've known for what seems like forever!

Hi Claphammama you are now responsible for me wanting crispy duck and pancakes... Spring onion and cucumber and plum sauce... Just told DP I'm ordering Chinese!

Glad Natalieand's DH is on the mend, and Legally is immune to chicken pox, must be scary waiting for the results. MoN my thoughts are still with you, take care of yourself.

I always wanted a surprise and luckily DP feels the same way, I would probably cave in if he didn't. I'm not big on pastels or pink frills and bows so not too worried about clothes. Can't remember who said they weren't keen on neutrals- I'm planning on all the baby's unisex stuff being as bright as possible. There's a range at next called bright and beautiful I think, rainbow colours I love them! When I told my aunt I was going to put my baby in red and yellow she looked at me as if I was crazy Grin

Natalieand · 10/04/2013 18:57

I would love a surprise but unfortunately my impatient personality and my husbands inability to say no to me means we will be finding out as we did first time lol

FeministInTraining · 10/04/2013 19:16

Haha @ husbands inability to say no, he needs to have a chat to DP Hmm

Soupqueen · 10/04/2013 19:26

Congratulations to all today's scanners, welcome to newbies and hurray for chickenpox immunity!

I don't know when my 20 week scan is, I think I get an appointment through the post. We're not sure whether to find out the sex. I'd like a surprise but DH is tempted to find out. So much of pregnancy, childbirth etc is about me that I'm leaving this decision up to him!

I'm another fan of bright primary colours, rather than pastel pink and blue so that helps. Also plan to buy a lot of white vests and sleep suits anyway.

I definitely am getting a bump. I can't tie my jeans up. I tend to wear a lot of jersey, wrap dresses at work so I should be ok for workwear for a bit longer. I definitely need to go clothes shopping but feel silly given how tiny the bump is!

FeministInTraining · 10/04/2013 19:39

I forgot to say congratulations to everyone who had scans, how rude of me. Especially as I spent ages looking at all the scan pics earlier!

I definitely have a bump now (13+2) and have been loving wearing my maternity jeans they're so comfy.

Did some revision sessions at college and one of the kids asked me if I was pregnant yesterday! She waited until there was no one else around and I could tell she wanted to ask but let her squirm trying to decide whether to say anything (evil teacher muahaha) she said her and her friend wondered weeks ago when I was 'in a bad mood and moaning at everyone'. Funny how kids never think you might moan because they're not doing what they should be and don't even remember to bring pens to lessons, let alone homework, at 17 yrs old Hmm

Shootingstarsandcomets · 10/04/2013 20:06

smitten medical background here........ketones are produced when your liver breaks down fatty acids. Normally they are completely metabolised and excreted in tiny volumes in urine. When the body can't get enough glucose for energy it starts to use body fats which increases ketone production and makes them show up in urine.
It's common in diabetics and people with eating disorders so maybe you were hungry? Might just mean you need to eat more carbs, do you excersise a lot as that can make ketones higher too?

Smitten1981 · 10/04/2013 20:22

Thanks Shootingstars. No, I don't do any exercise at all. I used to exercise a lot, but not recently.

I had pasta bake for tea, I'm going to try and up my carbs a bit and drink lots of water and see if that helps.

I hope it's not a warning sign for the start of gestational diabetes. The doc said there was no sign of diabetes on the test stock though so that's good at least.

TheFalconsmistress · 10/04/2013 20:43

Evening Grin

DH just made me peanut butter cookies with 3 ingredients I was totally sceptical as it was just, pb, sugar and a egg Shock but they were yummy Grin I have ate a few....

Wickedgirl · 10/04/2013 21:06

Has anyone had their 16 week check yet?

I don't even have a date for mine yet even though it should be in about 2 weeks

I remember last time around, I got to hear my baby's heart beat which was reassuring as I still couldn't feel him moving

This time, the FMC listened to the heart beat at both of my scans there so that was lovely

Did anyone else opt for harmony testing?

cazboldy · 10/04/2013 21:20

Wicked booked mine yesterday for 2 weeks tomorrow - I will be 16 + 3 Smile

roofio87 · 10/04/2013 21:33

I can't book mine until 2 weeks before so will ring tomorrow!! I've heard mixed things about mws listening for hb at 16weeks;some do some don't. it can be hard too find so they don't want to try and worry you if they can't!!

Haylebop12 · 10/04/2013 21:50

I've got I ring and book. Probably do that tomorrow. My mw said at booking in that she will listen so def looking forward to that Smile

Iheartcrunchiebars · 10/04/2013 22:16

Very excited, got a second scan tomorrow as the baby was too small last time for the nuchal measurements. It will be lovely to see the baby again!

Natalieand · 10/04/2013 22:19

I'm seeing my midwife tommorow ill be 13+3 and I suspect she will book 16 week check up then :-) do u think she will listen for the heart beat? Xx

Glad we had lots of positive scan news again today :-) welcome to our new comers, we like to chat on this bus were on thread 5 already and not everyone is even 12 weeks yet lol xx

roxvox · 10/04/2013 23:13

Evening all. I can't quite get over how fast we populate these threads! I like it though; in fact I get a bit disappointed when I refresh the page and there aren't any new posts to read!

I am so flipping tired at the minute! Sleeping 8+ hours a night, plus a good few hours when I come home from work, and I am still feeling constantly exhausted. Considering I had a 2 hour nap when I came in from work I was quite surprised that I actually felt too physically tired to eat my dinner. Had 2 mouthfuls and gave in! I thought this was all meant to fade in the second trimester?!

Whoever said about dandruff too, yes I also have it! And I use Head and Shoulders as my normal shampoo (have done for years).

I am not bothered by the pinks and the blues either, and love that colourful Next range as well as their grey and white unisex sheep range. I can't really explain to DH why I want to find out the sex, but I do. However he seems to be getting more and more adamant that he doesn't want us to find out. I think it is just that thing that someone here (sorry, can't remember who) said about wanting to know everything I can about my baby. I think I am just going to have to stand my ground with DH and hope he changes his mind again!

Iheartcrunchiebars · 11/04/2013 07:19

Yippee second scan day! My DH can't come so I'm on my own. Hopefully they'll let me have photos again.

pinksky · 11/04/2013 07:37

Hello chatty people! And happy scan day crunchie, how lovely you get to see your bean today.

I was going to ask about booking the 16week appointment also--sounds like it's best to wait til 14 weeks then. Does anyone know if you also book your 20 week scan then, or is that done separately?

I'm still nauseous/sick, my digestion is just incredibly sluggish. I feel full v quickly. Anyone else? I've bought some probiotics so will see if they help. But beginning to feel more energetic- am on a work thing and managed to stay at dinner until 10pm. Rock n roll!

OP posts:
Soupqueen · 11/04/2013 07:49

My 16 week scan isn't until 17 weeks :-( hopefully it should make it easier to listen to the heartbeat though. It just seems like so long to wait, I'm 13+3 today.

I'm still exhausted too, but I'm suffering really badly with insomnia. It's so frustrating.

Good luck to today's scanners!

funkky · 11/04/2013 07:55

Hello ladies! 16+1 today and 20 week scan is 10May and well definitely be finding out sex, am one of those people that can't be patient enough to wait !

House hunting at the moment and can't believe how stressful that is! The near perfect houses seem to always miss something we really want......

Re: 16 week appointment, MW listened and found hb, she did warn b4 hand though that if she doesn't find it not too worry ( I was actually 15 weeks) but heard it loud and clear.

Also, had blood test on Friday as baby wasn't still enough for accurate nuchal measurement during scans but still no word from hospital so hoping its good news.

Claphammama · 11/04/2013 08:18

FeministinTraining I also love bold neutral colours. With DS1 I knew I had a boy and decorated his room in lime yellow anyway. It was so bright and sunny (it honestly looked better than it may sound...) I'm also going to find out this time but refuse to decorate in blue or pink... I can't do too much pink at any time so, if it's a girl, she will probably end up wearing red, blue, green and yellow.

Does anyone have strong feelings about what you might have? I think I'm having a girl... mainly because this pregnancy feels so different from the last "boy pregnancy"...

HotSoupDumpling · 11/04/2013 08:22

Re food, I also don't have any appetite and feel full within a few mouthfuls, and am constantly saying to dH 'This rubbishness was supposed to be all over by now!!'.

Re outfits, although I don't usually like Next, I do love love love their little grey and white sheep outfits. Don't like the whole blue for boy, pink for girl thing - I like both colours, so have even bought a pink bonnie baby (on sale) sleepsuit which my baby will have to wear whether its a boy or girl! Well, my DH wears pink shirts to the office sometimes. Haven't bought much though, will wait for the 20 week scan so as not to tempt fate.

wicked - we were offered the 'free' harmony test by FMC (which they offer if you have it done at 10 weeks) but although that test would have been free we would have still needed to have and pay the convntional combined nuchal test. So we were a bit stingepot and decided not to do it. We get our NHs results in the next week so fingers crossed we didn't make the wrong decision.

Booking my 16 week appointment today.

Natalieand · 11/04/2013 08:50

I'm one of these ppl who does lots of pink for little girls and blue for little boys lol. Dd basically only wore pink until recently but even now I won't put her in green or red, personally just dislike red don't even own anything red myself and dd is really girly too, sometimes she will wear navy blue etc but only if it looks girly lol.

Re feeling on this baby's sex: I am pretty sure this baby is also a girl but me and dh would like a second girl so would be very pleased if it is , although it would be equally nice to have one of each.

Midwife just text and cancelled today's appt :-( she said ones of we ladies has gone into labour so has re-scheduled for tommorow

Good luck to those scanning today!! Xxx

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/04/2013 09:07

My midwife just told me to book each appointment after I have the last one. I won't get any letters, it is up to me to book (glad I checked that as I had assumed it all worked like the first appointment where it was booked for you).

I have gone back to feeling really sick again this morning, probably because I rushed my breakfast. Now waiting for a driving lesson and hoping I am going to be able to focus on driving. Really can't wait for the lessons to be over. I find them so tiring. Just have to keep thinking about being able to drive my baby around.

Whoever is still not sleeping, me too. It is not every night now, but maybe 3 or 4 nights a week I wake up at 3ish then don't really get back to sleep again.

I dreamt that my MIL bought me an ultrasound machine to use at home. That would be addictive I think! In my dream the baby was a boy, but I keep changing my mind. No definite feelings either way.

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/04/2013 09:08

That's frustrating for you Natalie. But when it is your turn to be in labour you would expect the same I suppose.
