Hi All

I want to find out the sex too. DH wasn't that keen to last time but once we did he was really glad we had and is now dying to find out with this one. I would love the surprise at birth too but really found it helped us bond with the baby and pick a name early on.

We tried to keep it to ourselves but inevitably family got it out of us! Didn't tell any friends though

Congrats on the scan "flyer"

I'm going to tell my new boss in about 10 mins and am bricking it. I know they will be shocked as I'm only just back from maternity and only started a new role on Monday but I can't conceal it any longer as I'm showing! Will be relieved once it's out in the open but really scared at the moment Shock

roxvox · 10/04/2013 14:23

Interesting to hear everyone's opinions on finding out the sex. I didn't realise so many weren't intending to find out! I am still definitely thinking that I want to know, DH will have to do some convincing to get me to change my mind I think!

Natalieand I'm glad your DH is home. I hope these next few weeks when he's unable to work aren't too stressful for you both.

Sparkeleigh I am at 15w and am pretty sure I just look a bit chubby/bloated, but I am sat here at work with my jeans undone because, although I can just about do them up, they are supremely uncomfortable when I do do them up! I too haven't put any weight on since bfp (have lost a couple of pounds actually) so it is definitely baby!

OrangeBlossom2 · 10/04/2013 14:44

Hope it went ok Warlin!

Sparkeleigh · 10/04/2013 14:58

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll definitely be shopping then! I'm hoping I'll be able to get away with altering some of my skirts and replacing the waistbands with bump bands though.

Good luck Warlin!

pinkmoonlight · 10/04/2013 14:59

Congrats on the scan flyer! Thanks I am so bad at waiting for this scan- I'm so excited and nervous I just want it to arrive! I'm meant to be planning for school but I keep looking up baby related things online- oops!

I'm not sure if I have a bump yet really... I think it might be bloating as it defintely seems to grow later in the day! It definitely feels harder but I am still in all my normal clothes, although they are now getting a bit snug. I think I just look like I've eaten too much, can't wait for the proper bump!

Flyer747 · 10/04/2013 15:09

When is your scan pinkmoomlight? I felt totally the same, everyone has being reporting for weeks here about their Scans and it seemed to take forever for mine to come round so I can completely understand your frustrations pink!! :-)

legallyblond · 10/04/2013 15:15

I definitely have a proper bump - I look about 20 weeks! There is two of everything in there though.... Plus it's my second (and third)!! Grin

legallyblond · 10/04/2013 15:18

By the way, rachel, we have the same 20w scan date (10 May)!!

Warlin · 10/04/2013 15:37

Told the HR Director (45 yo childless woman) who was actually lovely about it. She will tell the CEO and can't relax and make it common knowledge until he knows but at least Ive told someone! Feel relieved!

I have a proper bump too (though only one in there). I am 15 weeks but think I look about 18. I am into maternity trousers now and some maternity tops as my boobs are massive!

OrangeBlossom2 · 10/04/2013 15:49

Well done Warlin.

Ugh my hormone levels must be changing. This morning I woke up with a mahusive spot on my chin and DANDRUFF which I have never had in my whole life. Is this what they call glowing?! Anyone else suddenly turn disgusting at 12 weeks?

Shootingstarsandcomets · 10/04/2013 15:56

Well done warlin I'm not sure what to do about work as I'm currently on maternity leave anyway! I am thinking about going back a bit earlier than I would have done if I hadn't been pregnant again just toget the maternity pay. I know that's not good for my employer but 15 weeks of 90% pay v no pay at all is good for me and my growing family!
Fingers crossed for chicken pox immunity legally
I don't have a bump yet but I bet I will soon. I put on 3 stone with ds and was huge. Luckily it did seem to fall off and I was back in size 10 jeans by 4 weeks and back in size 8 by 8 weeks but I expect it'll be harder to lose with number two so trying not to binge too much at the moment.

pinkmoonlight · 10/04/2013 16:04

Flyer it's on Friday at 9:40. Smile At least I don't have to actually wait once Friday is here and can just go to the hospital straight away. The hours are passing so slowly! x

legallyblond · 10/04/2013 16:07

Bloods back - I'm immune!!!!

OrangeBlossom2 · 10/04/2013 16:20

Yay good news legally. That was nice and quick! Although probably didn't feel that way for you.

Smitten1981 · 10/04/2013 17:01

Soooooo i just went to the docs (again) about the indestructable thrush issue and she did a urine test to check I didn't have gestational diabetes as that can cause it.

The test showed I have a high level of ketones, but no diabetes. She said she didn't know why it came up as that and maybe I was hungry. Bizarre.

Anyone here clued up on what ketones means? I've only ever heard of it in terms of the Atkins diet.

carcassonne · 10/04/2013 17:10

Hello, been lurking for ages as the thread moves so fast!

Just starting to feel a bit less rough. nearly 15 weeks now. All well with scan and in fact had another last week after very scary bleed with clots and midwife not being able to find heartbeat. All was well though.

Congrats on all the scans. Those of you with bumps - mine is fully fledged and has been for a while. I showed early with my first so this time I was in maternity trousers at 7 weeks!

Will try and post more regularly.

cazboldy · 10/04/2013 17:33

smitten not very helpful, but in cows they have sweet smelling breath, and it is an energy deficiency so we give them glycol (sugar syrup that tastes like candyfloss Grin) in warm water. It is very common just after they have calved Grin

have no idea if it is anything similar in humans!

OrangeBlossom2 · 10/04/2013 17:54

Hello Carcassone, I recognise you from the October home birth thread where I too have been lurking as I am undecided at the moment, and might not be allowed a home birth anyway if my asthma ends up making me high risk. Sorry to hear you had a couple of very scary moments, great news that all is well now.

Haha Caz you made me laugh about the cows. I am sure it is the same in people and actually helpful but just made me chuckle.

If anyone else ends up getting dandruff (so glamorous) do look at the back of the labels on shampoo. I've just been to buy some and some (neutrogena t-gel products) say not safe for use in pregnancy. Head and shoulders didn't say anything about pregnancy so is probably fine but I then wasn't sure so I bought some expensive and probably inefficient organic tea tree shampoo. Better to be safe and scaley...

Claphammama · 10/04/2013 18:04

Hi girls. New on this thread. Also due on 22nd October with my second one. Feeling OK but terribly terribly congested and can't recover from an awful cold. Have been ill for almost a week now and no end in sight. Wasn't that bad when I was pregnant with DS1. Had a beautiful first pregnancy but this one hasn't been fun so far. I seem to have no immune system. I have been warned - tends to be tougher the second time round!
Anyone else feeling less glowing than expected?

OrangeBlossom2 · 10/04/2013 18:09

Hello Clapham mama Smile sorry you are feeling rubbish. I have had a cold or snotty nose since conception too. Doctor said not to worry, it was just my immune system being not as good during pregnancy. It is also lowered a bit from having my tonsils out last year I think. It is not too much of a pain, just low level, except at night when It wakes me up or when my sinuses are sore. Midwife had never heard of echinacea, doctor said best avoid due to lack of research. Just trying to eat and drink lots of fruit and veg.

cazboldy · 10/04/2013 18:20

Hi Claphammama Smile

Orange maybe - we are all animals after all Grin - Smitten hope that didn't offend you Blush - I am immune to comparisons now - dh does it all the time..... anything from due dates (cows are pg for 9 months too!) to mastitis etc etc he just assumes it's exactly the same!

He always goes on about his "conception rate" too (he A.I's the cows) and have lost count of the times he has joked to farmer friends of his that natural service is better, and I'm doing well for a 6th calver! cheeky git!

Claphammama · 10/04/2013 18:21

I guess we will just sniffle our way through it Orange Blossom! Fruit and veg are delicious. I'm a big fan. But right now, for some reason, desperately craving Chinese and crispy duck in plum sauce in particular... very very specific...

Haylebop12 · 10/04/2013 18:23

smitten ketones in your urine generally mean your dehydrated. When I've been having my extreme sickness days the reason i get admitted is because my ketones are high. They present when your body begins using its own fat stores. I get discharged once my ketone levels are trace.

That's my understanding of it anyway. Do you think you've been drinking enough?

Smitten1981 · 10/04/2013 18:24

Ha ha. Not offended by the cow comparison!! I do feel like a grim cow at the moment, what with the thrush and the 4 mega spots that have erupted on my chin Hmm

Smitten1981 · 10/04/2013 18:26

Ooh thanks Hayle, I've been very thirsty lately and have been drinking pints of fizzy water. I haven't had much to drink today though, I'll make sure I have some now!
