Scan day!!!! Why does time seem to move so slowly when you're pregnant?

DH and DS (15 months old) coming along - I'm more worried about my toddler destroying all the equipment than the scan itself!

Will check in later hopefully with good news...

X

Natalieand · 05/04/2013 11:53

Good luck live keep us posted :-)

I took dd to scan and she behaved for the first half, she's 2.5 years then Cos we went away for 20 min n came back as baby as laying in wrong position when we went back on for second time she was bored by then and wanted to get on couch with me etc not so much naughty I wouldn't say just testing us a little in an orquad situation lol xx

Livened · 05/04/2013 12:03

Thanks Natalie - he's normally ok but now he can walk he's mr independent and wants to grab/eat/destroy everything he shouldn't!

Hopefully DH will be distraction enough, but he's normally as nervous as me in these scans and ALWAYS says something cringe to the sonographer trying to be funny... Last time at our 20 week scan, when the lady told us it was 100% a boy as he was showing off his Crown Jewels - my DH made some comment about him taking after his father - she laughed politely and I bollocked him on the way home!

pinksky · 05/04/2013 12:11

Good luck, Live - look forward to hearing your news later! I hope your DH managed to avoid embarrassing you Grin

Sorry about the cold, Serious, that sucks. Is olbas oil OK? I find it comforting. When I had 'flu the dr said no decongestants, but as much paracetamol as needed (ie, usual limits for adults). Lots of fluids!!!

I'm about to dye my hair--the first time since my BFP and nervous for some reason, but it is well overdue! I've had red or purple hair since my teens and I'm missing my freshly coloured look. I have done a patch test and not reacted, so fx.

Hope everyone else is doing well today? Great to hear your out, Hayle and Badger so sorry about the fall. It's good to hear no bleeding, and nice that you'll have the reassurance of a scan v soon.

Hang on - am I not allowed to use Vicks? I know no drugs other than paracetamol, but have been latering vicks on my chest all week Shock

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 12:57

or lathering even!

Rockchick1984 · 05/04/2013 13:01

Bowl Vicks and olbas oil seem to be slightly grey areas - some people say they are fine, others say to avoid. I used Vicks on the soles of my feet (best way to relieve an overnight cough!) but figured its so far away from baby that it can't cause any major problems :)

legallyblond · 05/04/2013 13:04

I did ask my GP this and she said ideally no Vicks or olbas oil to be safe... just paracetamol... Given its not ingested though, I'm sure it'll be fine!!

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 13:05

Thanks Rochchick. Please no one come up with some evidence that I will damage my baby by using Vicks as this is the 3rd cold I've had since BFP and I'm not sure I can cope the next 6 months without it Sad

legallyblond · 05/04/2013 13:06

No evidence here!!! It'll be fine. I ate a crate of pâté one day forgetting its not allowed....

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 13:07

so legally, in your opinion was it one of those vague 'avoid to be on the safeside* responses that I can just ignore without feeling too guilty (hopeful!)

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 13:07

Want pate Envy

HotSoupDumpling · 05/04/2013 13:11

Livened - good luck!

I want pate. Soooo much. I must admit I have occasionally on very bad nights used menthol sniffy things. I justify it to myself on the basis that the baby also needs mum to breathe and get to sleep!

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 13:18

Mmm, pate on a lovely fresh french stick with a large bottle glass of red.......

legallyblond · 05/04/2013 13:27

Yup, it was a throw away comment that meant "I don't really know, so I'll say no" I think.

34PinkLadyApple · 05/04/2013 13:44

Looking forward to hearing from live!

Having had lovely restful nights (only getting up once for pee and getting straight back to sleep) for the majority of being preg, the last 3 or 4 night have been bad. I just can't switch my body off IYKWIM? My heart seems to be going ten the dozen and I feel like i need to run up and down the stairs to get rid of some energy, then i try and sleep and i jump and twitch waking H2B up. I'm getting the heart rate thing during the day today too...? Anyone else? Should I be worried?

xuntitledx · 05/04/2013 14:08

I'm just recovering from a terrible cold and I used Vicks Vabour Rub...

Prior to using it, I researched online and the information on NHS states 'is not known to cause any problems but seek medical advice if you're pregnant or breastfeeding'. Most other things flat out tell you no if it's going to cause issues so I used my better(!) judgement and rubbed some on my chest.

Natalieand · 05/04/2013 14:14

untitled I've had a few ear infections since being pregnant and my gp looked all different ear drops up for me and all said ''no known problems caused to pregnant woman' and he gave me them he sati it just means that like most medical companies they don't like to go out on a limb to say safe in pregnancy incase there is one case somewhere where it does cause harm

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 14:17

I'm going to live life on the edge I think and stick with the Vicks....Grin.

While I am asking slightly dumb questions (and putting off doing any work...) - what are bump bands for? Managed without one last time, but feel I may be missing out - I'm just not sure on what?

Am getting quite despondent about maternity clothes - I really don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a new wardrobe, particularly as this may well be my last pregnancy, but anything vaguely nice seems to be expensive. I know I could just buy a few bits, but did that last time and wore everything out, hence why I have to start from scratch. Really unimportant I know....

Natalieand · 05/04/2013 14:22

Bowlful I used bump bands last time mainly for one tops r getting a bit short to accommodate bump and tbh they r so comfy I wore mine for months after cos I couldn't part from it haha

roxvox · 05/04/2013 14:29

bowlfull I bought some bump bands at the weekend as I can no longer wear my favourite jeans comfortably, but with a bump band I can wear the jeans undone, with the band covering the opening!

I am quite looking forward to buying some (probably second hand) maternity wear, but I don't want to get ahead of myself!

Hope it's all going well livened!

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 15:21

Are they really tight then? You can wander around with your fly undone (snigger)?

I'm going to have to buy some aren't I? Smile

Roxvox I've had a look on e-bay but it all looks so unappealing. I know logically it's just because on websites shops put gorgeous thin (non-pregnant) women in the clothes, whereas on e-bay they are on a hanger, but am still put off.

Natalie - so a bit like spanx for the post-pregnancy belly? Just remembered how amused I was by my deflated belly after having DS - just am empty packet of flesh flapping around. So attractive!

roxvox · 05/04/2013 15:45

bowlfull I tried some on in Mothercare with my fly undone just to make sure they would suffice! And they were tight enough, although I did purchase the smaller of the 2 sizes that I am usually in between when I buy clothes (I think that makes sense?!)

I know what you mean about the eBay clothes. I might take a risk on some, but am pretty keen to wait until after my 20 week scan before taking the plunge on any items of actual clothing (other than baby bumps of course!). I might try the Primark range too, and H&M seem to have some lovely bits and bobs, all quite plain and reasonably priced too.

BowlFullofJelly · 05/04/2013 15:51

I would like to hold out until 20 weeks, but I am apple shaped anyway so most clothes tend to be snug around the middle on me anyway.

Have told all of my team at work today - bless them they were all giggly and excited! And then worried about who would be my cover - the person that covered me last time wasn't that popular. Anyway that means the rumour mill will have started and everyone will know by Tuesday. At least I can let it all hang out now Wink.

Going to attempt to start potty training with DS this weekend - I have a feeling this will not go well Hmm. If anyone has an tips please feel free to share!

TheFalconsmistress · 05/04/2013 16:18
