Yay Frog that's brilliant news - so happy for you.

Jo I am going through exactly the sameon the bump front and everyone saying how big my bump is - although the biggest thing is everyone guessing if I am having a boy or girl - one of my very close friends inspected me and got me to turn around and then said 'yep definitely a girl as weight has definitely gone on your hips and thighs' luckily I don't get offended easily.

On maternity wear - I got a bargain summer dress from H&M at the weekend as I am going to Turkey on Friday for a week - £5 and is so comfy.

BinarySolo · 03/04/2013 07:49

People always comment on the size of your bump. I think there's a pamphlet somewhere entitled 'things to say to pregnant women' that lists: size of bump, sex of baby, how many kids you intend to have et as acceptable topics for discussion. Hmm

Grr, cut and paste fail! Had to copy the post to avoid losing it as got a message that mumsnet was down. How annoying!

JammyTummy · 03/04/2013 09:31

Oh no Binary it still isn't working!

I signed up to Amazon Family yesterday, it's brill! I get an additional £25 off cause I have Amazon Prime too, so pretty pleased with that!

I don't know what it is about pregnant ladies that makes people feel they can say absolutely anything to them. I've had nothing about my actual bump but some comments (along the lines of dont get ready too early as your pregnancy might still go wrong) have absolutely astounded me!!! I wonder if its people's way of showing that they've 'been there done that' it something. Either way it's rude and unnecessary.

fl0b0t · 03/04/2013 09:57

My funniest comment so far has been "I never got that big" from a friend who has a lot of kids. Luckily I was busy laughing at my bump at the time so I felt it was ok. I don't really have a complex on the whole about my body and weight and I know I'm healthy (and still below pre-pregnancy weight)... so I don't find comments about my bump annoying yet. I love my bump, it's SO round /me strokes it.

I really enjoyed reading this book yesterday: www.amazon.co.uk/Here-Maternity-One-Mother-Journey/dp/0091897505 Mel G from Mel&Sue talking about her (unexpected) prengnacy. Absolutely brilliant (and makes me feel very normal!)

JammyTummy · 03/04/2013 10:52

I love my bump too! I can't wait for it to get huge so I can prop things up on it, like my cup of tea.

JammyTummy · 03/04/2013 10:57

Ps flobot lolz at the absolute killjoy who gave that book the one star rating on amazon! She actually made me laugh with her miserable review.

kipsonline · 03/04/2013 10:58

Ooh lexy great, mine is 9am next tues. are you asking about the colour?!

LexyMa · 03/04/2013 11:16

kips I think I might, although I don't feel I need to know (won't make any difference to what stuff we buy, am not into colour coding children!!). DH wants to find out, so I think I'll make a deal that as long as we keep it an absolute secret, we can ask. And of course it's not 100% accurate so there could still be a surprise on the birth-day!!

Hi all, just checking in as I had my 16w midwife appointment this morning. Had a lovely midwife and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time, which was amazing and such a relief! 150-60bpm, all healthy and happy!

So excited about 20wk scan now but another 3 1/2 weeks to go! Sad

ION I have an infection in my gum where my wisdom tooth is, it's real agony! Dosed up on paracetamol and penicillin and hoping it's gong to start waring off today!

weebarra · 03/04/2013 13:05

Well, I had my first unwanted bump pat today from a girl at work who irritates me at the best of times!
She also said that she hoped I didn't double in size or I wouldn't be able to move Hmm .
Most people at work have been lovely, we're a close bunch and they know what I went through with DS2 being so ill after he was born.

RunningBear78 · 03/04/2013 13:20

Hi all, it has been a while, so just spent an age catching up on all your news! Great news frog on the scan!

Relieved to hear others still worrying about weight and bumps, I also seem to still be piling on the kgs, and although I had a bump three weeks ago, it seems to have gone, or fallen down and around into my bum. Have also progressed another bra size ... sigh.

I had my 16 wk appointment today (hence exicted and back on here!). Midwife was usual off-hand self, didn't get weighed but basically said if I started looking really fat she'd tell me! She also had a spectacular fail with the Doppler; she just got it on the belly and the battery died. Horrified as dh had taken the morning off just to hear a heartbeat! So, long story short, decided to head to the antenatal clinic in the hospital instead and had a lovely midwife (also preggers and due on the 17th Sept...wonder if she's here?) who did a great Doppler, talked me through everything we could hear. It was so amazing to hear the little heartbeat chugging away at around 150-57bpm. Also videoed the whole thing so dh can hear tonight!

On the shopping front, haven't bought a thing (charity shop moses basket and babygrow's don't count, they were both only £2!). Don't plan on getting anything till post 20 weeks, and as little as possible until after the birth. Am spending my time browsing websites and baby shops so when the time comes I know what I'm after ... and it prolongs the excitement.

Sorry ... bit long!

jemimahpuddleduck · 03/04/2013 13:23

Just ordered the steriliser set from amazon thanks frog for the link and creamtea for the info on joining thefamily club, I must make a note in my diary to cancel before the 3 months is up.

Made a big spreadsheet at work this morning with everything we have bought and what we need etc will also keep track of how much we are spending.

ION had my consultant appointment yesterday for asthma and was signed off so just midwife from now on. Was a bit of a waste of time but got to hear heartbeat again which was lovely.

kimjayne · 03/04/2013 13:44

Flobot - I love Mel and Sue! One of the main reasons I am so addicted to the Great British Bake off. Anyway, just bought that book on Amazon following your recommendation. Only £1.84 including postage! Bargain.

:)

Hope everyone is well today! I have finally started to form a bump :) Hurray! Feeling more pregnant now I have something to show for all the sickness. And I love it when the hubby rubs my tum to say hello to baby :)

13 days til the 20 week scan! tick tock .... come on 16th

EmmaDee · 03/04/2013 13:54

Hi all,

Its been an age since I posted but I've been keeping up to date with all your news! My bump is still just looking like I've eaten all the pies, and my skin has decided to flare up so I look like a spotty chubby teenager!

I have my 16 week appointment this day week, so hoping she'll listen for the HB. I have a doppler and I found the heartbeat myself this morning but ity'll be reassuring if the midwife does it!!

juniper9 · 03/04/2013 14:16

Binary's link

JoCheshire10 · 03/04/2013 14:17

Thanks everyone, clearly not just me with the inappropriate comments thenSmile

The MSE checklist was really useful! Ill be joining Amazon family too-on the lookout for freebies so anything I find I'll post on here too.

My 16 wk midwife apt will come when Im 15+1 (it was booked prior to my 12 week scan and the MW said not to move it unless it was a couple of weeks out. Wondering whether they can still hear the heart beat this early? Does anyone know?

badguider · 03/04/2013 15:51

Just went to order that book - there were only two copies left on amazon. Is that because of this thread??

Keepsmilingsunshine · 03/04/2013 16:24

Jo I had mine at 15+2 and she listened to the HB Grin.

Good luck with all the 20 week scans coming up, its odd that the weeks are whizzing by but time feels like its on a go slow IYSWIM.

Still have just about everything from DC1, except a few things which were lent out and never returned, so hoping not to have to go mad this time round.

Think I'm going to need to turn into a hermit, I'm sorry to go on but the weight/size comments are really getting me down. I was bmi 20 before preg and am now bmi 22. FFS most of the people making the comments are bigger than that and they are.not.even.pregnant! it's like gleeful joy for every extra pound that goes on Angry
It was easier last time round a few years ago when I started out at bmi 24 and had tipped into 25+ by 12 weeks, started a bit fat do noone bloody noticed the additional fat (or didn't comment at least!)

JoCheshire10 · 03/04/2013 17:17

Ahh-thanks Keepsmiling and Mummyofprawn you've made my day! Very excited for my appt on Friday Grin

JoCheshire10 · 03/04/2013 17:23

Cream tea-completely agree, I had a BMI of about 21, I'd recently got fit for my wedding and now it's all gone a bit wobbly and can't help feeling people are secretly pleased as they are constantly commenting on my size. I haven't put much weight on and other than my tummy I am def smaller than some of them still..

Suppose we'll have to put up with this for a few months yet and then we'll have a lovely little person who'll make it all seem insignificant and make it all worthwhile Smile

Least it's not just one of us and we're all getting the same

Creamtea1 · 03/04/2013 17:57

Thanks Jo, you are right and it's a good job we have here to rant on! DH is sick of hearing about I think :)

In other less moany news :) I bought a pack of 3 sleepsuits today, only from asda - really cute white with grey stars, plain white, and a grey and white stripe. I'm only going to get bare few basics and then have a shopping spree after baby is born.
Steriliser kit arrived from amazon and it's a definite bargain!

Kittenkatzen · 03/04/2013 19:09

Awww creamtea my mum went out and bought that pack of sleep suits from asda the day I told her our news! It's very cute.

I am ShockShock at all the incredibly rude comments you've all been getting - I've had the odd "well you don't look pregnant" but nothing as blatant as you've all had!

Nothing much to report. I'm still full of cold and feeling sorry for myself. DH is buying me Chinese takeout tonight though so it's not all bad Grin

Ooh and my Doppler arrived from amazon today, can't wait to try it out later!
