i am in dire need of bread! def do not want the soup i've brought to work Sad

my brain is like a cloud of fog - i am struggling to concentrate on anything in work.

i rang the hospital after getting my letter to make an urgent appt and they offered me one in 5 weeks time! i say eh thats not urgent! the receptionist got a bit aggressive so i just took it and rang the consultants secretary. she squeezed me in next tuesday.... i'm certainly up for a fight if this is what it takes to get proper care tho!

made me a bit tearful tho as i just dont want the hassle

getoffthecoffeetable · 19/03/2013 12:21

Fairy that's rubbish, sorry that the receptionist was mean, it's quite often the way I find.
I'm at work but starting to flag. Have got a meeting in ten mins, will be trying to avoid napping!
Am paranoid today that everyone's looking at my tummy. Different person to the three last week asked if I was pregnant this morning. Would like to have a scan and all clear so can finally start telling people and not looking like a greedy pig. Yesterday I had no tummy, nor this morning but seem to have developed one since eating!
Wish it was nap time.
Would send you a sarnie if I could fairy

Fairydogmother · 19/03/2013 12:52

thanks getoff

sorry all for being a moaning minnie today!

i def bloat up after eating too and its very uncomfortable! i've a week and 2 days until my scan and i'm counting the hours. really anxious that theres nothing in there although if theres not then i'm seriously not well!

vix206 · 19/03/2013 12:55

Re nipples. Everyone is different but mine never went huge like that although they did go darker. I think they look pretty much the same as they did previously to be honest but its not something I particularly focused on. No complaints from DH anyway WinkShock

Dizzy81 · 19/03/2013 12:57

Fiary, DR's receptionists can either be really nice or really mean.

I'm glad it's not just me that's feeling foggy and wants to go home and sleep. PLus I can't stop stuffing my face.

The guys I work with know as my boss let it out of the bag as I've got forms to fill in already! I don't mind they are being really nice to me as well.

DO you think work would mind if I crawled under my desk and had a nap?

I've got a sudden craving for gregs sausage rolls!

Dizzy81 · 19/03/2013 12:58

Vix, my DH is fasinated with my boobs and keeps sayinig they have got bigger.

Fairydogmother · 19/03/2013 13:03

an under the table nap would be great! i am very lucky to work an hour less a day and i leave at 3 but even thats a stretch for me at the minute

i'm nearly letting the cat out of the bag daily in work so the sooner i can tell people the better!

i am going to be the size of a house if i keep eating the way i am...

MsFanackerPants · 19/03/2013 13:35

Hi Alex and Jbrd

Feel fuzzy headed but think that's just not sleeping properly last night. I panicked that I has forgotten to read the word Not on a digital test, but I checked the photo I took, (ahem) and nope, it def says pregnant.

Booked in for first appt with midwife and just realised it's on the same day as my job interview, waaaah! Interviewing for my own bloody job as well, going to have to move midwife as really don't want to tell work yet.

getoffthecoffeetable · 19/03/2013 13:41

Have got head on desk and eyes are closing...
Too knackered to work!

artyone · 19/03/2013 14:34

Hello everyone!

I did a digital test this morning, it says 3+ weeks so I must be over 5 weeks. Am estimating I'm about 6 weeks gone now and have booked a MW appt for 3rd April. Very nervous. Does anyone know what happens at your first MW appt?? I am terrified of needles and am worried they might try and take my blood.

Fairy I've had some aggressive receptionists experiences too. It must be a stressful job trying to please everyone, but there's no need for rudeness. Just yesterday I had the Dr's receptionist be really sarcastic to me as I didn't know how many weeks pregnant I was exactly. It's not helpful and just makes me scared to call them. Glad you got it sorted.

harverina · 19/03/2013 14:37

Hi and welcome to newbies, cobngratulations!

Jbrd can I ask - if you get the job will you take it and if so, what will you say /when would you tell them that you are pregnant? I applied for a promoted post in a different local authority before finding out I was pregnant. It would be a huge change for me - I haven't been told yet if I will get an interview so this is all a bit hypothetical, but I had thought that I couldn't really go for it due to me being pregnant? I can't really be bothered starting a new job while pregnant anyway but it's a job I was really keen on.

Can totally empathise with those of you struggling with work. I could barely function this morning and had an important meeting to attend and contribute at. It went ok but I honestly could have put my head in the table and slept in front of all the people. The tiredness is excruciating! I'm sitting in a cafe just now with dd and I am feeling sick/dizzy/exhausted. My car is round the corner in a garage getting fixed so waiting for a call to collect it. I feel like I am in a daze! Blush
Dd has just called asleep on the couch so am just sitting relaxing which is nice.

Ncs hope you are ok.

Coffee hope you haven't fallen asleep Wink

Twotears my dd was born by emc and it is likely that I will get an elective cs this time. I breastfed for ages and this time hope to do it for as long as possible though I am not underestimating the difficulties of having a toddler and a newborn. My advice would be to get as much support as possible even while pregnant. Building up a support network now can really help.

Re. nipple changes, don't think mine were any bigger, they were just really dark, almost brownish. They went back to normal pretty quickly though.

MummaPanda · 19/03/2013 14:40

arty they may take your blood, but its mainly filling in paperwork, they will probably weigh u too. Possible urine sample aswell. Oh and blood pressure.

OP posts:
harverina · 19/03/2013 14:40

Fairy well done for getting it sorted. I sometimes think that medical receptionists think they are the doctors! When we used to call looking for an emergency appointment at the gp he receptionists used to be quite challenging about what constituted an emergency. I didn't get into discussions with them - they are no more qualifies than us except for we know our own bodies! (Unless any of you guys sate doctors haha)

harverina · 19/03/2013 14:43

Arty for my first mw appointment it was form filling, got given my notes and had bp taken. Brief chat about my health, previous labour etc. no bloods taken or urine tested.

Next appointment will be my official booking in Appointment and will be a weigh in, bloods and urine as far as I know.

Everywhere seems to have a slightly different system. I saw the mw at my gp surgery at 5 weeks.

JBrd · 19/03/2013 15:27

harverina - well, I think I've decided that if they really do offer me the job, I will take it and not tell them I'm pregnant until at least the 12-week scan.

Part of me squirms at the idea, but I really do want this job, I cannot face staying in my current one any longer than absolutely necessary. I know it's not ideal, but then again, it happens all the time, and employers deal with it. I think I need to be selfish with this one...
I know that maternity pay will be lousy (compared to the very generous package I would get in my current place), but I only had maternity allowance during my last pregnancy, so I know it's doable. And it would be the best thing in the world, knowing I wouldn't have to come back to this place.

FYI I started a thread in the jobs/employment section, asking the question.

arty The booking appointment where I live is just endless paperwork and form filling. Then they take bloods at a different appointment, but that might be different between areas. Make sure you tell them about your fear of needles, they can help with that.
Am jealous that you've got yours booked already, I have to wait until they midwife calls me to arrange it Envy

JBrd · 19/03/2013 15:29

Oh, and I'm amazed that some of you get weighed for their booking appt! I never got weighed once when I was pg with DS, I thought they didn't do that in the UK anymore?

OneLittleToddleTerror · 19/03/2013 15:30

Hi everyone, hope I can still hop onto this bus late. (Or maybe I should be on the October bus).

I got my bfp earlier this month. However, I've resisted jumping on an antenatal bus because I felt I jinxed it last time by hopping on early at 5 weeks. Ended up with an mc at 6 weeks.

I just came back from my booking in appointment with the midwife so it's beginning to feel more real. I was given a EDD of 27/10, but I don't believe it is right because my last period was an mc. But the midwife says I'll be dated in my 12 week scan, and they'll readjust all the appointments afterwards if needed.

I need to take myself to the hospital for a blood test before 12 weeks too. I don't remember it being so complicated last time. But then I don't remember feeling sooooo tired last time either. I'm knackered every evening.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 19/03/2013 15:31

JBrd yes I was weighed today, and the midwife even wrote down my BMI. I think it's another case of the NHS postcode lottery. I was also told my scan appointment will come through the post in a couple of weeks.

williaminajetfighter · 19/03/2013 15:54

jbrd remember legally employers can't do anything about people coming to interview when pregnant and cannot discriminate.

That said I recently offered a candidate a job and she was kind enough to say 'btw I just found out I was pregnant'. That didn't change the offer but I thought it was classy for her to tell me and also meant that she didn't have to be cagey about drs appointments etc when she first started. I'd recommend that tactic if you're successful in getting the job.

DittyRatt · 19/03/2013 16:10

Afternoon ladies, and welcome newcomers.

Re: breastfeeding; i am not planning on breast feeding, i tried BFing when i had DS and i just didn't get on with it. DS was pretty good with latching on and feeding, but i hated it, i didn't like the feel of it or anything, i quite when it got to the stage where i was crying just at the thought of doing it, and i was bordering on PND .

The doctor has put me on iron tablets Sad i have to go pick them up in the morning. Not looking forward to taking them as i can't really struggle to take tablets, i normally get my medication in liquid form. But the doctor insisted that i need tablets.

JBrd I got weighed and measured, then had BMI calculated at my doctors appointment when went to confirm pregnancy. In my last two pregnancies this was the only time i was weighed as i had almost all my midwife appointments at home.

honey86 · 19/03/2013 16:27

bleeding abit ... kindof brown blood... and starting to cramp again Sad im not sure if my bean will stick this time Sad

artyone · 19/03/2013 16:30

honey I have my fingers crossed for you. Don't panic though, call the midwife and get it checked. It could be for a variety of reasons.

Alexandra6 · 19/03/2013 16:34

Oh honey how far are you again? A friend of mine bled, went to a&e in a panic, turned out to be just something that happens and her baby was fine. Also read earlier that when the placenta is forming some old blood can pass away, keeping everything crossed for you x

Minesahotchocolate · 19/03/2013 16:35

Hi ladies - I can't believe that I only just found this 2nd thread, and it is already more than 1/2 full! I am SO not keeping up with all the posts.

I have been feeling like this pregnancy is all a bit of a dream, as a part from feeling a little queasy on and off, I haven't had (m)any symptoms. I went to the Drs today though for my first appointment and had a scan and YAY!!! all is well - apparently I'm 7 weeks preg (so my due date is now 5th Nov - moved forward a few days from the 8th). I could see this little blob and the heart beating :) (I'm living in Germany so scans are done much earlier/more frequently). Good luck to all of you who are still having to patiently wait for your scans.

Still feeling strangely disassociated from it all though - which is such a contrast to my first preg when I was panicking/worrying all the time over whether the baby was ok. I'm almost a little worried that I'm not worrying! I think I might be still a bit in denial. Didn't expect to fall preg the 2nd time so much faster so I thought it'd be just me, DD and hubbie for a while yet. Glad that I've time to adjust to all this.

Minesahotchocolate · 19/03/2013 16:36

Honey - I hope that it all turns out ok. Keeping my fingers Xed.
