welcome louby! congrats

louby86 · 17/03/2013 18:28

Oh honey, hope you're not suffering with the sickness too much! I'd obviously blocked these few months out of my mind Smile

vix206 · 17/03/2013 18:55

I've just remembered something that has made me laugh. When planning on returning to work after DS I said I would go back into work after 2 weeks (taking the baby with me).

Lets just say looking after a newborn baby was an eye opener for me :)

It took me a year to go back 1 day a week!!!!

MummaPanda · 17/03/2013 19:40

Hmm I am currently having a crisis in the going back to work department. As Im still on maternity leave from dd and not due to go back until august, unless I take the extra 3months, and go straight into maternity leave for this pg. My job is very physically demanding, dont know if I'll be able to handle it, not to mention leaving dd for 9hrs. But then with 2young babies dont know that I'll want to go back at all! Confuuused!

getoffthecoffeetable · 17/03/2013 19:57

Sounds like you've got a lit to think about mumma
For me, DH and I always said that if we had a second child that I'd give up work. Not just because of child care costs although that's a major factor obviously. Am rather nervous about becoming a SAHM though. We'll have to work out the financials nearer to the time. Scary to be reliant on anyone else though for money.
Have been feeling awful all day although thankfully the trips to the loo have become much less frequent. Now I can't decide if I feel sick because of tummy bug or MS. Said the same to DH and he told me couldn't be MS as you only get that in the morning. Bless him, he's completely clueless!

PassTheCremeEggs · 17/03/2013 20:42

Mumma I'm in a similar-ish position. I'm going back to work this coming Tuesday (totally dreading it...!) I think I'm going to stay at work until the earliest point I can go on maternity leave (11 weeks before due date) and then I'll likely not go back to work after that. It feels pretty scary that I'm probably going to be totally giving up my job. What will the age gap be between your DC? It will be 18 months between ours - eek!

MummaPanda · 17/03/2013 21:00

Oh im glad im not the only one, and there will be less than a yr between them, not sure how much less as I have no idea when my due date is yet!
Dd is 4months old tomorrow!!!!

PassTheCremeEggs · 17/03/2013 21:12

Wow! That definitely beats mine SmileI actually always wondered how that would work - would you be allowed not to go back to work at all, but run the two maternity leaves back to back? Are you still entitled to maternity pay? Sorry for being nosy!

MummaPanda · 17/03/2013 21:56

I don't know tbh! If I take the optional 3months extra unpaid maternity, they will run back to back. But because I'm on a 0 hour contract I'm not entitled to maternity pay from work anyway, I got highest amount of statutory maternity pay from the gov because I was full time between the weeks of your pg that they go from (can't remember what weeks it is now) but this time I won't get that cos I'm on ML for those weeks so prob won't be entitled to much. Will have to wait and see! Lol

Evening all, welcome to the newbies.

Mumma I am on DC3 and no there isn't much of a change with my morning sickness this time. I got it earlier but that's about it.
Oh another change is that when I was pregnant with DS I had it in the morning, when pregnant with DD I had it in the afternoon, and this time I tend to be getting it in the evening.

Gubbinsy I am exercising the exact same as I was before I got pregnant. I should confess though that I only work out at home with the aid of my Wii. I do yoga, zumba, and go on the Wii fit. I do get more tired now though.

Re: maternity leave; I am planning on only taking 6months off as I only work part-time anyway (usually in the evening) so there is always some one at home for the DC. So I don't have to pay for childcare.

6+5?x

harverina · 17/03/2013 23:29

Welcome newbies!

I'm sitting up in bed feeling very sick Hmm so thought I would pop on here and try to catch up. Craving smoked salmon and avocado big time but will not allow myself to go downstairs to have it Smile

I will be going back to work after 9 months I think this time. Last time I took the full year but we moved house last year and our mortgage has more than doubled so don't think we could cope with no pay for 3 months. I get quite good mat pay - 6 weeks at 90% and 33 weeks at 50%. I plan on breastfeeding for as long as possible so this is my main worry when thinking about going back at 9 months. Will need to sit down and talk to dh about it properly. We use and grannies for childcare at the moment. The alternative is that I quit my job and register as a childminder but I really don't want to do that I don't think...I feel like I am at a good stage in my career and have been thinking about applying for promoted posts so to give it all up would be...well tempting actually but also scary and sad. Lots to think about Grin

Does anyone know what the rules are of you have a second job - like say you were on mat leave and your main employer was paying you. Are you allowed to work for your second employer during your time off? I suspect the answer is no! I have been thinking of applying for a sideline job linked to my main job and have thought that this could maybe tide us over during the 3 months when I don't get paid?

Went swimming with dd today. Didn't do much swimming more play. Wasn't really up for doing lengths of the pool. Looking forward to getting some motivation back for anything other than sitting and eating salmon or licking crisps!! My dd has been very cuddly which is so nice. I could cuddle her all day long Smile

Honey hope your getting some respite from the sickness tonight so that you can get a decent sleep.

Williamina is it an option for you to go part time? Come back to Glasgow childcare is a little cheaper here!!! My cm is £3.50 per hour.

harverina · 17/03/2013 23:31

Oh and mumma I am on pregnancy 2 and feel that my sickness is worse this time and has started earlier than last time. Not actually being sick except for yesterday in the garden Shock just feel sick a lot of the time. Maybe in looking at my last pregnancy through rose tinted glasses! I remember feeling a little sick but generally great last time!!!

louby86 · 18/03/2013 05:04

Harverina, I think I've been looking at my last pregnancy through rose-tinted glasses too. Me and DH actually sat down and worked out how much time I had off with hyperemesis last time, just got my fingers crossed it doesn't come back

Saundy · 18/03/2013 06:52

Welcome louby & congrats!

I work 2 jobs at the min Harv so had looked into that & the answer is no unfortunately. You can work a handful of hours but not enough to be a part time job. I think the ones you are allowed are more the contact days for your current employer.

Sorry to hear there's so many sickies, I've still thankfully dodged that bullet!

getoffthecoffeetable · 18/03/2013 07:33

Feeling rough again this morning. Still can't decide if it's morning sickness I'd the tail end if the tummy bug. Am going to have today off work to try and pull myself together!
I remember last time with DS I kept a packet of biscuits by the bed a d ate one before I got up and that basically used to sort me out. I'd feel sick on the train but would suck mints to distract it. This morning have eaten a ginger biscuit and slice if toast and still feel rough which is why I'm thinking maybe tummy bug still.
It's funny the things you forget about your last pregnancy...

Dizzy81 · 18/03/2013 07:41

Morning ball, hugs for all those feeling under the weather today. I'm going to join you all today, feeling pretty sick, just hope I don't throw up at work as the flushes are terrible. Sorry tmi.

I slept for 10 hrs again last night and want to go back to bed! But can't ad I need to get my expanding bottom to work.

vix206 · 18/03/2013 08:23

Hope you feel better soon coffee. Fwiw I think it's a tummy bug...

Am I the only one still struggling with insomnia ? I awake before 5 every morning regardless of how early or late I go to bed. No sickness though so shouldn't moan!

CheeseandGherkins · 18/03/2013 08:51

Morning all. I've spent the weekend stressing over every little pain after the consultant scared me last week and almost convinced myself that something was wrong but all seems fine today.

I'm not feeling sick at all, slight headache and still really tired but other than that I feel ok. I'm getting quite fuzzy headed especially as the late afternoon/early evening comes and my moods are very up and down.

I'm so impatient, early pregnancy is so hard with nothing seemingly going on and no bump or movements, waiting is not my thing!

Fairydogmother · 18/03/2013 09:18

I had a terrible day yesterday. Exhausted and felt v sick. Spent most of it in bed!

Aso got a letter asking me to make an urgent appointment with the endocrinologist consultant so will see what they have to say Confused

Hi to all the newbies

harverina · 18/03/2013 10:06

Morning everyonw!

Woke up for an hour in the night ao feeling tired this morning and sick. Just want to go back to bed or nap on the couch but poor dd needs attention and someone to play with! Going out to soft play in a while to meet some friends which will be good. Hopefully it will waken me up a bit.

Have a dull headache this morning too which is probably due to tiredness...sorry I'm just moan moan moan!!! Roll on week 14 when all the rubbish symptoms will miraculously disappear!!

Coffee hope your better today. I guess you'll find out in the next few days if it is a bug or pregnancy related. Does sound like you have had a big though.

Dh how's away again tomorrow until Friday. He has been a great help over the weekend helping me to catch up with housework but still feel like the house is a total mess and needs a food clean Hmm its starting to stress me out a bit. We have a lot of decorating to so too before dc2 comes and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of that especially since I have no energy to do any of it right now!!

harverina · 18/03/2013 10:06

Morning ladies!

I've been away for a few days as I've been working super long shifts and all I've managed to do is work and sleep Hmm. Pregnancy tiredness makes long hours really hard.

The thread has been as busy as usual - you bunch of chatterboxes!! I will try and get back up to speed with everything that's been going on. I see lots of you are still suffering with sickness. Mine comes mainly in the morning so I have taken to having a packet of breakfast biscuits by my bed and it seems to help - haven't actually thrown up yet so fx it stays like that.

Congrats and welcome to all the newbies!Grin

GinSling82 · 18/03/2013 10:41

Random question but do any of you buy/ read pregnancy magazines?? If so are they any good?

As this is my first pregnancy feel pretty clueless about most things and was wondering whether a magazine would be informative & interesting (worried they may be boring and tedious!). Or do people feel getting a pregnancy book is better? Just wondered whether magazines would be more up to date with their advice than a book....and might contain maternity fashion etc tooSmile

artyone · 18/03/2013 11:11

Hello everyone. I'm new here.

Just found out I am pregnant, and am guessing my due date will be in mid-November but totally unsure as I don't keep track of things very well.
This is my first pregnancy and I'm very nervous that everything will be okay and mostly I just can't believe it right now and don't think I'll be able to until I have a scan. I'm thinking about getting an early scan just to reassure me. Is it worth it?

Also I am going to be getting married this September, so it looks like i'll have quite a bump for it now, which should be fun.

I've not had many symptoms yet, just more tired than normal and some mild nausea. Also smells seem stronger and I'm being more forgetful, if that's possible!

Nice to meet you all.
