Well first of all if you are doing classes, you need to tell the instructor you are pregnant. You don't have to stop any of the classes, as the instructor will give you alternative exercises for what you can't or shouldn't do. The toning class will be fine (apart from the abs, you will have to sit out of that part) as the instructor can check your posture and make sure your not going to hurt yourself. If you are doing weights in a gym on your own, unless you really know what you are doing, I would stick to resistance machines as most of these are sitting down and you won't risk straining your stomach. And keep to a low weight high rep ratio Smile
And keeping hydrated is really really important. Keep a drink with you at all times because otherwise you will faint. And that's just embarassing Wink

Thanks Vix for your advice about child minders. I work full time so it's probably going to be expensive whichever way I cut it. But, yes, child minders less expensive than very pricey daycare.

To be fair I've been thinking about taking a few years off after baby. I've got a job that is crazy demanding and about 60 hours/week, am doing a crap job of managing school homework and general stuff with my 6 year old DD and will do a worse job when 2nd DC comes along I'm sure.... it's just no fun feeling like you're doing a half-arse job of everything. But that's for another thread!!

suprisepitstop · 17/03/2013 13:18

Thanks mumma, thats really helpful abd reassuring

Saundy · 17/03/2013 13:32

Oops just me then Hmm

I don't know how you exercise I tried the Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project & had to lie down half way through the warm up! I'm not massively out of shape either but this fatigue is so intense at the minute. Hopefully it's a passing phase.

vix206 · 17/03/2013 13:43

Saundy, I'm not exercising as such. But I do run around a lot after DS so I'm not going to beat myself up over it!! And neither should you! :)

Saundy · 17/03/2013 14:19

I'm not too worried was just so shocked at my measly attempt & how much pregnancy can drain you. All my energy is pretty much going on staying awake & aware in work or managing the pain off this flipping cyst. Have not given up completely but am just gonna give myself some time & not push myself (which I dont think I could if I wanted to anyway!).

What are people's early thoughts on maternity leave? Am swinging towards splitting it 50/50 with DP, has anyone else done this?

vix206 · 17/03/2013 14:43

Ooh is that a new thing saundy? The mat leave? I will take a year again I think. It's easier in terms of flexibility as me and DH run our own business but its a sacrifice as the business (and our income) suffers when I'm not there. Confused

Saundy · 17/03/2013 15:08

Yeah it's pretty new, when I'm so many weeks he can take over. I earn more than him so it seems to make sense to take the hit on his salary rather than mine. Money aside I think it'll be a good opportunity for him to bond/appreciate how hard it is. Though he's convinced I'm all talk & won't be able to return to work when it comes to crunch time!

suprisepitstop · 17/03/2013 15:11

Thats not a bad idea Saundy, we are in the same boat salarywise. Is he entitled by law to statutory pay?

Saundy · 17/03/2013 15:24

This is from memory but I think it's as long as you're entitled to full maternity pay & not maternity allowance. If you have taken 20 weeks of it he can then take up to a further 26 weeks starting from your return to work.

Saundy · 17/03/2013 15:26

He has to be employed and earn a minimum amount per week also (£150 or something like that). Otherwise he would qualify for the time but not the money. If his company has their own scheme he could get more.

SusieSusieSheep · 17/03/2013 15:28

Hello all, I would quite like to join the group. I think I'm 4/5 weeks pregnant, though it's a bit hard to tell because I have ludicrously long and unpredictable cycles, but I've done two positive tests and the website reckons my due date is mid November. I've already got a 2yo DD :)

SusieSusieSheep · 17/03/2013 15:29

The nhs website, that is

Saundy · 17/03/2013 15:32

Congrats SusieSS & welcome!

doobeedee · 17/03/2013 15:41

Hi there. Just popping in from the Oct thread as I saw your questions about exercise. The main thing is not to get overheated and not to work so hard you can't speak. There are some recommendations about keeping your heart rate at a certain level but these are considered old fashioned especially if you are already a regular exerciser. Oh and an work is fine to do, in fact it helps in pregnancy with posture etc! The thing you have to watch out for is an work lying on your back after 20 weeks but you can still do other types. I'm 11 weeks now and still doing body attack and body pump. I've cut my intensity on the very energetic moves in attack and have lowered my weights a little in pump. I also wear a heart rate monitor to make sure my heart rate doesn't go ridiculously high. I have a fitness in pregnancy book if anyone wants me to look anything up. Hope this helps! x

doobeedee · 17/03/2013 15:41

Ab work not an work! Stupid auto correct!

vix206 · 17/03/2013 16:16

Going back to work is a real wrench Hmm at first anyway. My DS was still feeding several times a day until he was a year old and was a bottle refuser, so I was lucky to be able to spend the first year with him. It goes so fast too!

Saundy · 17/03/2013 16:45

I imagine it'll be hard but think its a situation that all 3 of us would benefit from & not financially but as a family. It must be easier to leave DC too if its with their dad, I hope!

Thanks doobee will keep it in mind Smile

busyprocrastinating · 17/03/2013 16:50

Hello and congrats to new joiners I can't believe how many of us there are.
I am feeling dreadful today. Headache, sore throat, bunged up, massive cold sore but at least it explains why I was feeling so tired yesterday. Dh has taken dd out and I'm laying in front of the tv with a blanket- although typically there is nothing on!

Dizzy81 · 17/03/2013 16:53

The plan is for me to take a year and help my dh with his business.

Got lots of implantation cramps today, boobies are really sore too and I just want to sleep.

busyprocrastinating · 17/03/2013 16:58

I am hoping to take a year too. But depending on the school holidays I might take less I need to work it out.

honey86 · 17/03/2013 17:24

oh fudgeyfudgefudge im so close to heaving up my actual stomach Confused i fgot what this felt like Sad x

MummaPanda · 17/03/2013 17:35

Awww poor honey! Can definitely empathise with you! Just think in a couple months we will all have hopefully put sickness behind us and be sporting cute little baby bumps with little kicking babies in them!

Hello everyone, was wondering if I can join you guys? Found out today I'm 4 weeks pregnant with baby number 2! DC1 was born February last year :) I'm a bit nervous about telling anyone in RL, hoping the next few weeks go quick, although I can't believe I'm a day away from missing AF and I'm being sick already Hmm

honey86 · 17/03/2013 17:54
