You poor thing. I prescribe some kind of cake. Are you working today or can you hide under a duvet? X

Umlauf · 04/03/2013 08:12

Thank you for cake! I'm currently hiding under a duvet as not working until 12! Feel rather nauseous as well which isn't helping. Must cheer up!!

How is everyone else this morning? Did you get to sleep in the end sal ?

Rockchick1984 · 04/03/2013 08:33

Umlauf I think you're incredibly brave having a baby in a country who's language you're not fluent in - I found my first pregnancy daunting enough without a language barrier!! Does your DH understand more of it? Honestly though, sounds like she was just a bitch and would have upset you no matter what!

Umlauf · 04/03/2013 08:43

Thank you rockvhick but I'm not brave, I cried at a blood test! I don't have much choice, if I go back to the UK DH might not be there, as he can't take s one month period around October off work to go to England and wait for the baby to make an appearance!

We have about the same level of Spanish although DH is taking lessons (I can't as they clash with my working hours). I feel such a failure for not speaking fluently yet as we've been here six months now. And I'm really scared of being lonely and nobody at the antenatal class wanting to bother with me and my rudimentary Spanish!

HotSoupDumpling · 04/03/2013 08:56

Good morning all!

Awww that sounds v stressful Umlauf. I'm sure someone at the antenatal classes will take you under their wing. There are lovely people everywhere. Is there a sizeable expat community where you are?

On the plus side, at least you can buy reasonably priced cartons of don simon gazpacho at your local supermarket. I bought one bottle at Waitrose for my craving last week, and it cost £3.50!! Yikes. Might have to make some myself if this craving continues.

Umlauf · 04/03/2013 09:58

Thank you for your support! Very true about the Gazpacho, Don Simon is my craving saviour... wonders if Don or Simon go well with surname as baby name

I've just ordered a Mother's Day bouquet to be delivered to my grandmother with a note that says p.s. you're going to be a great grandmother!

I'm really scared of her reaction!!!

roofio87 · 04/03/2013 09:59

morning all!!
umlauf so sorry you're having a tough time of it. I agree I'm sure you'll find someone at antenatal classes who will look after you, they won't just ignore you!!
honestly ladies, can someone reassure me that I'm not the only one with a non existent sex life at the moment!?! we haven't done it for weeks as I feel exhausted and sick in the mornings and evenings!! I feel sorry for my dp,he's so patient. I really miss that part of our relationship, but when I actually think about doing it I can't stand the thought (all that effort and jiggling about!! Haha) and I don't even have any dcs yet so I'm worried that's its dropped off already!! how's everyone else coping,if you don't mind me asking!!Blush my friends were making jokes the other day about how my dp must be loving my bigger boobs, they've no idea that sex is just not appealing at the moment, especially having my boobs touched!!!Wink

Umlauf · 04/03/2013 10:06

roofio were the same... We've not dtd since conception Shock but I feel exactly the same as you, plus the fact that if it jiggled anything around and I saw blood I would have a major panic!

I feel a bit bad, but he did get a lot during ttc...!

NOTHING touches my boobs now!

TheFalconsmistress · 04/03/2013 10:08

roofio no sex here don't worry your not alone!!

umlauf that sounds horrid glad your having a well earned rest before work.

Ds did not want to go to nursery today so i have him driving me made with kids programming and puppy dog decided to do a doodoo in the house, which she never does if DH is home needless to say clearing that away led my to be violently sick :(

Feel like finding a quiet cave for the next few months to hide in!

Sal1977 · 04/03/2013 10:12

Umlauf - 4.45am I eventually must have dropped off! Just got on the scales this morning and have put on 3lb already. Cried my eyes out for 5 minutes about it and how I'm going to look like a fat minger on my wedding day conveniently forgetting all the crap I have shovelled in my face in the last few weeks and now hoping for some serious morning sickness

Where in Spain do you live? My mum has lived there for 13 years and it took her a long time to become fluent. Also they go to a medical clinic where the doctors speak English (I think they're actually German), so is it worth asking around about whether you can be seen in a clinic?

Try and pick up one of the expat magazines that are normally knocking about in bars run by English folk as they normally have adverts for clinics and also groups that meet for various interests. It might be worth trying to see if there are any mother and baby groups that you could check out as I'm sure they would love to point you in the direction of antenatal care that would put you most at ease.

Another idea is to really hunt online for expat communities and chat room/forums. You can bet that you're not the first to be having your first bubba in a new country and won't be the last. It just might take a bit of digging!

We're contemplating moving out there to help mum and step dad run their biz, what do you do job wise out in Espana? Xx

Umlauf · 04/03/2013 10:19

I live in San Sebastián in the Basque Country sal where do your folks live? Unfortunately this is a really un-expatty area although I live in a big residence for foreign researchers so am not alone, although none of them are pregnant! My secretary is lovely and willing to come to appointments with me but I don't want to put her out. I think I have to woman up! I work as a tefl teacher in a private academy, and teach business-english in-company too. Lots of my business students are pregnant but I'm not willing to share my news yet!

I tried desperately to find an english speaking doctor but they just don't have one in the state system. We can't really afford to go private although this morning I had a wobble and suggested its, but then I think about all the immigrants in England who have babies there without speaking english and if they can do it why can't I etc etc. DH keeps saying 'it'll be an adventure!' in a chirpy voice, as if having a baby isn't enough of an adventure!

Sal1977 · 04/03/2013 10:20

We hasn't DTD since they day we got our BFP (month ago today) and because I've been too nervous about doing it, DP has wanted it even more! Haha, he's been very good at 'sorting himself out'. TMI Alert - since getting my BFP I have had 2, yes 2 really rude dreams where I have had an orgasm and my uterus (I can only guess its that) has gone into a massive cramp/spasm afterwards, hence was I have been avoiding it.
We did actually do it on Friday and ladies....try it (if you can stomach it), there must be all sorts if extra nerves and things going in down there as it was great! And, I didn't realise how close it really does make you feel with your man/partner.

Sal1977 · 04/03/2013 10:27

That's tough Umlauf. Mum lives in the campo outside of a torn called Frigiliana near Nerja on the costa del sol (the other end to Marbella etc). I think they do pay for medical care and they say they can't fault it.

Could you maybe see if you could get just a pregnancy package? A bit like booking into the Portland in London?

Just think, once you've increased your fluency, you could hire yourself out to other rich mums to be who are having the same problem!! Ker-ching!! Grin

34PinkLadyApple · 04/03/2013 11:30

Morning ladies. Sorry you had a shit appointment umlauf. My folks are in Spain (Mazarron, South East) and even though they've been there 12 years, are not in the slightest bit fluent! Comes with age and my dad using hand gestures rather than trying to speak to the natives I think (like in a restuarant, he waves at a waiter and says 'oi John!' Blush. My dad has a lot of skin problems so has been in and out of medical centres etc. They pay a local interpreter to go to the appointments with them. She's quite cheap I think and they found her number at the Centre on the notice board. Maybe you could ask around or just wait until you are ready to announce and take your secretary (buy her lunch as a way of thanks?). I'm sure she'd be more than happy to get some browny points off the boss!

We have only DTD twice since our BFP but I agree with sal, there was definately more tingling going on down there and it does (even before BFP) make us all warm and fuzzy for a good while. I say, give it go, but them I'm not getting MS so can't say how I would feel about Sea Sick Sex!

I have my first MW appointment tomorrow afternoon at 10 weeks. I have to take wee with me. Should i do it just before I go in or in the morning? What do they need it for? Also, my H2B was planning on coming (pardon the pun re: last comment) but can't now due to work. Did any of your OH's come to the first appointment and did you think it worthwhile them being there? He said he would try to get out of his work thing if really needed there...

Nice to see some sun for a change!

roxvox · 04/03/2013 11:49

34pinkladyapple the MW took a urine sample from me yesterday. She did a protein test straight away, and then took the rest away to check for any uti's as apparently they are very common in pregnancy and can go unnoticed as 'part of pregnancy' but they need to be cleared up as can be passed on to bubba. Something like that anyway Smile

I was reading up about MC's (straight after getting a BFP... I just wanted to know what to look out for) and it said something along the lines of "Some couples may feel as though sex may have been the cause of their miscarriage, but this is unlikely to be the case." ... Straight away I thought 'unlikely'?! Not 'definitely'?! DH read it too, and that's always in the back of our minds now I think! Was probably just a typo but it was enough to put us off the idea of sex for now.

I hope you're all doing ok today!

cazboldy · 04/03/2013 12:47

tiredness is the only reason we haven't done it as much...... but when we do it's lovely! Smile

salThe uterus going hard thing is normal, and happens even more later in pregnancy! Supposed to boost blood flow to the area, and i believe baby might also get some endorphins, so they sometimes go a bit mad and have a jiggle around afterwards too! lol

pinklady only thing you might need dh for is his family medical history, but you can always have a look at that together so you know xx

It's such a lovely day here, i would love to take the horse out for a ride! Oh well........ i'm sure it will be just as nice at the end of October Hmm !

Sal1977 · 04/03/2013 13:02

In for a scan tomorrow morning but I already know that I have lost our little miracle. I am so devastated and keen going to the toilets at work to cry.

Sorry for the me me me...
