Here you go. New thread...number 3!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
racheld33 · 12/03/2013 20:33

Thanks rockchick will look into it. Saw my friend had one on hers so thought it was compatable, if not will get DS a scooter Grin

Thanks tarlia I did nap when he did! But he woke so upset it was hard work (reminded me of a newborn!) If we can all just sleep well tonight, I think we'll be over the worst Smile

roofio87 · 12/03/2013 20:46

I've not thought about buying anything yet!! I won't be able to think about it until further down the line I think, definitely not until scan and then will probably wait a while after that!! only things I've thought of so far are things I'll want from my sister who doesn't want any more dcs so will get some things passed on from her!!
I think as long as you have enough money to survive that's all you need. what's more important is being loving and attentive to your dcs. they need time and attention and playing with and teaching etc not branded clothes and the latest toys!! I think we'll all make great mums/already are great mums as we obviously care enough already to be constantly worrying about our beans and asking each other questions and we've not even gotten past the first trimester yet!! Grin

Sanjifair · 12/03/2013 21:18

I have a stokke, for which I plan to get new covers (especially if it's a girl as it's got blue covers now). DS (2.5) can walk/scoot, or alternatively go in the buggy and I'll have the little 'un in a sling.

CelticPromise · 12/03/2013 21:36

pinksky no worries, I really love a bargain and hunting in charity shops and everything I got for DS is secondhand. Poor love has no new clothes ever!

When my sister was expecting, I found her a Mamas and Papas vintage style pram and several bags of clothes on freecycle, so that's always worth a look too!

char1eston · 12/03/2013 21:57

Natalieand - I'm in hove. The snow has been mental hasn't it?

To anyone worrying about the coat of things, don't. With dd I managed to get a cot an changing unit on eBay for £50 (just bought a new mattress) and we were given a bugaboo (I know, still can't believe it). Second hand really is the way to go, there's no need to spend loads of money Wink

Undecided as to whether we will find out the sex. Didn't with dd and I'm so glad we didn't find out. We admitted to each other after she was born that we both wanted a girl Grin

char1eston · 12/03/2013 21:58

Oh and I can't recommend ikea high chairs enough - £15 with a tray

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 22:07

char1 just up the road from me, I'm in littlehampton!! Near worthing.
Yeh snow was mental and then it was sunny this afternoon so it started to melt now its re frozen and is like an ice rink outside my door!

I said to dh to sell our high hair and get cheap ikea one as they are smaller and he thought I was winding him up so that isn't looking likely now.

Got blood results back from midwife today which I thought was really quick only 24 hours!!! I'm immune to chicken pox so that's a relief and also my GTT came back all good so just have to have another one at 28 weeks :-)

Irishfairy · 12/03/2013 22:16

I agree about the ikea highchairs char1, great value for money, easy to clean and fit well in small spaces.

Tarlia my dd gave up naps just after she turned 2 although when she was ill over Christmas she fell asleep in her buggy a few times and fit fine. She is tall for her age and outgrown her little umbrella pushchair but the bugaboo is still fine. You ds sounds very tall though so might be a squeeze!

Rockchick1984 · 13/03/2013 07:32

Morning ladies! I've got my booking appointment this morning - have to take my toddler along though as DH couldn't get the morning off work so will have to load the pram up with toys and my phone to distract him while we are there!

cherrycherry41 · 13/03/2013 07:52

Anyone wanting a new pram but dont want to pay £500+ check pram outlets such as Silver Cross Outlet ( just type in google). This time last year we got a Silver Cross Linear Freeway System complete with carrycot/childseat/ carseat/ footmuff/ changing bag and raincover for £200. Only reason it was so cheap was because it was the previous years model! Dead chuffed.
Will need to fork out for a double this time- so gutted i cant keep using my silver cross!
Only thing is for secondhand stuff- DONT BUY CARSEATS OR MATTRESSES SECONDHAND! v.v.important hence the caps Wink but in all seriousness- you dont know whether a carseat has been in a crash and is unsafe (if ur getting from ur Dsis then thats fine, pretty sure youd know!) and secondhand mattresses are a SIDs risk, only if absolutely neccessary reuse if it has a wipeable plastic cover.

Right, now ive passed on my words of wisedom im going back to sleep Wink

p.s. working class family here too!

JellyCurls · 13/03/2013 08:01

Day of scan has arrived and I am struggling to drink Sad been throwing up all night. Thinking I now got a bug. So nervous but be back on later to tell you how it has gone x

HotSoupDumpling · 13/03/2013 08:07

This thread is manic!!

jellycurls - good luck! We have a viability scan at the Fetal Medecine Centre at the end of the week...a bit apprehensive but excited at the same time.

Am studiously ignoring the pram chat as if I get sucked in I will definitely become a bit obsessed!

Rockchick1984 · 13/03/2013 08:19

Good luck Jelly!

Natalieand · 13/03/2013 08:46

Good luck jelly!! Let us no how u get on. Dh and I are just looking on the Internet at 16 week sexing scans to get one privately :-)

Wickedgirl · 13/03/2013 08:52

For those of you unsure about further/other testing.......www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1695701-Harmony-tests-a-no-risk-test-for-Downs-Syndrome-unlike-cvs-and-amnio-which-carry-a-small-risk

I found this interesting.

Sugar water also works on constipated babies, so that's one to remember in the future!

FeministInTraining · 13/03/2013 09:27

Morning all, good luck to everyone having scans soon! I love the buggy talk will be googling later. Spent my journey home after parents evening last night catching up with the thread, thanks for taking my mind off of the train making me feel sick!

We won't be finding out the sex, both decided we would rather wait for the surprise, think I want DP to be the one to look and tell me Grin

A question for fellow teacher ladies- told my sector leader yest as I've been feeling crap and didn't want her to think I was just lazy! I didn't say it was a secret but she knows I had a MC in Jan and I told her I'm only 9 weeks (yay!). She then later tells me that the principal and assistant principal are disappointed I won't be there next year (WTF?!) and asks me if its ok for them to put in an ad for mat cover by the first week back after Easter. That's 2 weeks after scan so I'll only be 14 weeks. The reason was that there's another woman pg in the sector (at least 6 weeks further along than me) and its cheaper for them to advertise in bulk with other posts. I also imagine they want to be appointing before the last half term so the next person can hand in notice if they need to... I said that should be ok as the 12 wk scan would be done but I'm now wondering if 14 weeks is a bit premature? Also a bit peeved that the principal knows- he came over and smiled at me asking me how I was during parents eve which made it worse- I'm only 9 weeks! AIBU?

Really sorry for the long me me me msg!

Tarlia · 13/03/2013 09:39

Fem I think because you told a senior member of staff they were very likely to see it from a business eye, than personal :(. I don't think it's fair that she told others, but perhaps that's normal protocol? So long as you've had the 12 week scan I think it's fine for them to advertise, I'm not sure you can stop them now they know..? The likelihood of anything going wrong after that is slim and if it were to then they would be the ones to have to turn down your maternity cover as you'd still want you job.

Urg, feeling so sick today. I think I'm going to end up the size of a house, I keep having to eat little and often to try and keep it at bay.

roxvox · 13/03/2013 09:40

Good luck today rockchick1984!

I have been purposefully avoiding looking into cribs, buggys, baby clothes, any of it, until we've had the first scan. I know it's silly to be superstitious but unfortunately I can't help it! Plus, I know that if I started looking now, I would probably have a wardrobe full of baby clothes by Friday as I will go eBay mad.

Like cherrycherry41 said, I too have read that you shouldn't buy second hand car seats or mattresses!

There is some stuff I will want to buy new (perhaps the first outfit our baby will wear etc), but apart from that then I am happy to buy second hand. For my parents though this will be their first grandchild. My Mum and Dad are always picking up little shoes and doing the whole 'Aw, look at them' etc and I already know that they will be worse than me at buying bits and bobs for our baby. DH's parents keep telling us that they've still got stuff in the attic from when our niece was born (9 years ago), which they'll dig out should we ever decide to have children, which is cool but I think we will want to replace some of it with newer bits (depends on what they have up there I suppose!)

I hope everyone is doing well today!

Tarlia · 13/03/2013 09:41

I'm not a teacher btw, so I could be talking out of my bum.

FeministInTraining · 13/03/2013 09:52

Thanks Tarlia, think you're right maybe I'm just worrying too much. She is senior but she sits at the desk next to me in the workroom, so we've got a pretty good relationship- not like I went to an office to seek her out so I just didn't look at it like that. Naive me [sceptical]

FeministInTraining · 13/03/2013 09:52

Hmm even!

feminist when I was 7 weeks with DS, I told deputy pratice manager as I had to go to hospital with hyperemesis, that same afternoon my practice manager phoned and asked what maternity leave I was taking and when so they could advertise!
This time, told practice manager at 5 weeks, expecting hyperemesis again. She told 3 people that day, and had advert out for my job the next week. If I had a MC now I would be annoyed people knew, but it would be them who would have to still employ me, even if someone else already been set up for my job!
