OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 17:30

Yeah on the scan haylebop and boo on the being sick natalieland I wish so much my scan was next week have no symptoms at all anymore and my tummy seems less hard more squishy im sure it will be fine but i would love to be reassured!

A car is very needed we had to get one and not pay other bills as otherwise DH has no chance of getting a job for summer

Sal1977 · 12/03/2013 17:49

My OH is also a student Falcon (38yrs old I hasten to add, I'm not shacked up with a kid of 18! Lol) and his part time job takes us over the threshold for Working tax credits but a couple of quid. I work as a beauty therapist from my treatment room at home but my income is so erratic, can be £20 one week and £300 the next!

You have to live and let live, I find it hard not to get 'well jel' though. Lol. My close friend has just spent a grand on a buggy and I just can't get my chicken sized mind around that. BUT, it's been my choice to be self employed not that I've been fired from nearly every job I ever had since the age of 25yrs, I have to take the rough with smooth!

At the moment my main bugbear is how hideously lardy I feel and I supposed to be getting married in 12 weeks. Big fat downer every time I look in the mirror at the moment and not sure what to do about it...

ldt87 · 12/03/2013 17:55

Can i join in please? I am 7 weeks tomorrow by my dates, haven't had an appointment yet but its going so slow at the moment because I've known for 3 weeks and its still such early days! Think my due date is October 30th subject to change at scan.

cazboldy · 12/03/2013 17:58

ill steer clear of that thread then - they'll hate me!

dh works 6 days a week on a dairy farm

I only work 1 day a week ( but am doing a degree via the ou too), my friend collects the littlest 2 on that day, and i am home by half 4. I collect her children 1 day a week too.

Dh is on low income, but we are not too badly off as we get this house rent, rates and council tax free - which obviously really helps.

I could not work out of school hours, as dh works from very early in the morning, until 7 pm, and then every other night for an hour ( at least from 9 - 10 pm, checking the calving cows etc ) - and even if i did holidays would be a nightmare!!

childcare would be extortionate and also is not widely available round here - very rural.

We obv get child benefit, and we do also receive some child tax credit. (though for how much longer who knows!!)

we are also lucky enough to have milk from the farm for free, and we rear our own beef, have chickens for eggs etc

this dc will put my working back by about 2 years i think..... then I aim to do my pgce and train as a primary teacher, around that time dh will more than likely be forced to look for other work, as the farmer's son will be leaving school, and joining his dad in the business. There are few farms round here, we will not want to disrupt the dc schooling, and we have a few of our own cows (19 at present) so the plan is for him to do something with them hopefully! and I will go out to work......

all if's and buts at the mo....

sorry for the essay lol

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 18:00

Lol sal I'm the same on the price of buggies. I would probly get the mamas and papas luna if I was paying as its only £150 brand new and comes with 2 year warranty however dh mum is paying so I feel I may as well take advantage of it lol. Think fish and chips r gunna be for dinner although it will probz be savaloy not fish that mince has traumatised me lol

OrangeBlossom2 · 12/03/2013 18:06

Just catching up on all the chat today.

Wicked, my boobs have also gone up a lot. I thought they had stopped but then they stareted hurting and growing again. By my measurements i have gone from a 30B to a 30DD but the lady who fitted me in John Lewis suggested going for a 32DD band as I will get bigger there too soon she thought (not convinced my ribs will get fat soon?) and it left a little bit of growing room in the cups. She also said I could only choose a non wired bra. I have read that wires are considered fine now as long as the bra fits. It meant that there was a very limited choice (in fact only one bra in the shop in my size!). I am not convinced as I now just have a rather baggy ugly looking bra that probably doesn't give the best support. I didn't feel I could buy something other that what she suggested. I only bought one to tide me over and will go back again soon to try some others.

Wicked (was it you again?) I am off the alcohol completely as I am quite petite and a lightweight drinker. Even a small glass of wine makes me feel tipsy and flushed. I also watched a documentary on foetal alcohol syndrome last year that compared it to pickling your baby which put me off. Perhaps later on in the pregnancy I would have a sip but at the moment I am not missing it and don't want to do anything that I would feel guilty about if anything went wrong, even though I know the research says a little bit is ok and that wouldn't really be the reason.

Jelly, I am glad your constipation is gone and hope you settle down to feeling normal soon. I had it from being on codeine after an operation and it hurt so much I decided it was better not to take the painkillers for a day and took three different remedies as I told my DH to buy everything in the shop. Before that I never realised just how incomfortable it can be. Sorry yours had to be relieved in such a dramatic way!

Whoever said they feel very behind everyone else, me too. I am only 7+6 and scans and booking appointments are still ages away.

A child was sick outside my classroom at lunchtime today and two other children in my class felt sick so were sitting on the carpet with airplane style sick bags. The smell of sick and disinfectant wafting through the air is not good at the moment! I spent the afternoon trying to keep as still as possible and not join in the throwing up.

Oh dear sorry for the super long post!

OrangeBlossom2 · 12/03/2013 18:18

Caz I am envious of your rural lifestyle. I had hoped to move a bit further out of london before having children but I dont think that will happen for a while now.

Going to bed now for a little nap before dinner. I woke up at 2am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep until half an hour before my alarm went off. Zzzzzz. It probably isn't a good sign for October that I don't do well with a lack of sleep! Confused Hopefully I will be used to it by then.

Feelinghungry · 12/03/2013 18:33

Wow this thread has moved fast. No scan date yet for me Sad but I am a little behind most you ladies only 7+4. However the tiredness has hit me hard this last week, really horrible.

Orange your post made me laugh about joining in the throwing up with the kids. It is the odd food they eat during break that sets me off, weird flavour crisps and snacks etc. How are you coping with things at school? I feel like a rubbish teacher. I am usually pretty energetic in the classroom but currently feel sapped of all energy so planning/marking and performing are all not great atm. I have resorted to teaching sitting at my desk for some of my nicer classes. Really makes me look quite lazy. At the end of the teaching day I feel exhausted and am really struggling to focus on the mountain of work I need to do. Have you used a strategies to cope with this? I also have Parents' evening this Thursday till 7:30pm after a full teaching day!!! I might actually cry.

Re: Alcohol, I am not till 12 weeks, then I might indulge in a glass of wine. I think each to their own really on that one. I know people who do throughout and those who don't.

Buggies: I really havent looked into that, but some of your quotes are scaring me. Do they really cost the price of a small second hand car? That is crazy money!!

pinkmoonlight · 12/03/2013 18:40

feelinghungry I've had a student in since half term teaching 60% so that has been really helpful! Particularly when I'm sat in the dark on the floor in my cupboard eating a ginger biscuit and trying not to throw up! Not sure how I'll cope next week, I'm quite scared about it actually. I'm 7+4 too, booking in on 20th but no scan date yet x

CelticPromise · 12/03/2013 18:43

orange it's def fine to weara wired bra as long as it fits correctly so the wires are not sitting on breast tissue. It's also possible to buy extenders to put in the back as you grow. I've got no intention of ditching wires! (Am a H cup and in a soft bra that ain't pretty!)

pinksky I got a secondhand Bugaboo for DS from eBay, will be using it again from this one. Have also seen some very decent prams for sale at NCT sales. Netmums local is also worth a look.

Tarlia · 12/03/2013 18:50

orange even your post had me heaving blerg.

Pram/buggy prices are crazy! We had a really unfortunate time last time, one broke and one was crushed during a flight (luckily airline paid out as it was only 2 months old!). We then used the money to buy a lovely buggy but has a seperate carry cot which we didn't need for a 1 year old so didn't get, so now we are forced to buy something. I think we will get a proper box pram this time as its really cold here during the winter, and this time baby will be born right at the start.

pinksky · 12/03/2013 19:03

Thanks for those suggestions, Celtic - really appreciate it! The bugaboo looks fantastic and I have seen them for 250-350 on ebay.

Welcome ldt87

So I've tried to update the list, to add new folk and sadly remove others.
Please can people update if I've done it wrong? Sure some are missing... Rugbywife I wasn't sure what your due date was so please do add yourself!

Bronzemoth · 12/03/2013 19:20

I'm not even thinking about buggies (and at the moment I hardly no one end from the other!) - I wouldn't call it superstitious. But until I have had the 12 week scan I'm trying hard not to get ahead of myself and plan to much. I've got a private scan first thing tomorrow. I'm feel really nervous especially after all the sad news yesterday so I'm trying to prepare for the worse (I'm slightly paranoid as whilst I have fatigue and nausea my boobs aren't really sore at all and never have been). I think if it does go okay then I'll start to plan a little more (and start telling people).

I think pregnancy is a leveller money doesn't really make much of a difference to the aches and pains (at least thankfully in the UK with the NHS). Even old Kate Middleton had to contend with HG.

Smitten1981 · 12/03/2013 19:20

Just ordered some maternity jeans from Next and a bra extender from EBay (£1.35, bargain!) sick of my clothes being tight, let the fat times roll!

Thanks ladies!

pinksky · 12/03/2013 20:01

I have just eaten half a jar of sweet pickled onions and now DH has gone for fish and chips Blush I know I'll probably be sick but I need them!
What vits/minerals am I missing to be craving vinegar??

Umlauf · 12/03/2013 20:06

H everyone! It's been ages since I've posted so just catching up with everything and the thread moves so quickly!

So so sorry to hear of your sad news birdsdoit and topslou you are both so so brave with your positive attitudes and I really hope to see your names on the next bus. Maybe you'll have christmas babies!

sal don't worry about feeling awful, in 12 weeks you will have lost the first trimester crappiness and be in second trimester glow with a proper bump, shiny hair, perfect nails, perfect skin! Best time to get married!! I got married in June and it was absolutely incredible, enjoy every second of the planning it will pass by so quickly.

Money chat is so miserable. Being in Spain I'm not entitled to ANYTHING despite being here long enough to pay substantial taxes. No maternity pay, child support, NOTHING. it's going to be bloody hard on just one (low ish) salary but hopefully worth it in the end.

I bought new maternity jeans from asos for £22 and they are great! I wore the, today as they look so smart BUT I had the first stranger ask me if I was pregnant! Am 11 weeks and its my first, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!!? I must look elephantine.

Scan is on 22nd when I will be nearly 13 weeks, its my first scan and I'm so excited but also scared they will a)tell me there is nothing there or b)tell me the reason I'm so massive is its quadruplets.

With regard to buggies I'm obsessed with my bugaboo chameleon and will be using it again.
It is pricey (my mum bought it as our baby gift) but we have used it everyday for almost 3 years and when my dd still napped she would only nap in her buggy which was great for when we were out and about (which was very often).
I used to be a nanny and tried out lots if different buggies and for me nothing came close; it's easy to push on lots of surfaces, faces forwards or back when it converts to the seat, has big shopping basket, all the pieces are removable and machine washable and the warranty is really good. My dd still loves it, hopefully she will be happy to let baby have it come October! Going to get a buggy board to attach on for her. Also you can buy all the material separately so can have a whole new, fresh colour this time around... Like a new buggy but for a fraction of the price. can you tell I love it?! Grin

Hello all

DS (2.5) had roaring cold today and spent afternoon crying cos he felt ill. Felt like a bad mummy cos with MS had no energy other than just cuddle him on the sofa. Hears hoping he sleeps ok tonight!

As for prams, I got Icandy peach for my DS, gift from parents. Which luckily still looks like new, and I love, so nothing new in our house other than a buggy board!

Rachel I didn't think the Peach takes a buggy board? I know iCandy don't recommend it as they said it can crumple the chassis - that's another thing putting me off it as I don't need a double for long but a buggy board may come in handy!

How rude of the stranger, Uml. Hope your response was, "no, I'm just fat!" I hate it when people guess/ ask, especially when it's early. I tried to wear my mat jeans yesterday, but had to keep hiking them up, but they are so comfy I will not give up that easily. They do make my tummy look very round suddenly though.

Irishfairy Does Dd still manage to nap in bugaboo? We looked at it when DS was 1 and was replacing, but he was already too tall :( He was the height of a 2yr old at 9 months and is now 1 cm off height of 3 year old at 2years. Insane, I'm a shortie though OH is pretty tall.

Poor DS, rachel :( Hope he feels better tomorrow and sleeps well tonight. Don't feel bad, the ms will pass. I'm sure a day snuggled up watching tv and reading stories did you both the world of good. Did you nap when he did?
