I no I'm a bit behind on responding here but in reply to the drinking alcohol I not a big drinker anyway so I won't really miss it tbh. I may have a glass of champagne/wine or whatever my sister is having as toasts at her wedding in August other than they I probly won't bother as as I said I won't miss it anyway. Xxx

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 14:47

I had decided the oyster was for us too after seeing it when i went to look at prams the other day its a very smart set i like how you can pick different colour packs for it too and the wheels are not too huge so i can go on the bus when DH has the car!

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 15:09

Am I the only one not having a new pram? Well I'm sprucing up dds. I've got the loola and the versatility is great. Can take the car seat or the seat unit either way (parent or forward facing). I had the one with the bar handle which for shopping bags was rubbish so I'm getting a new frame, seat cover and hood to match :-) although I have washed the ones I got and they came out as new!

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 15:14

I might be buying mine second hand haylebop depends if DH gets a job in the summer. DS pram was huge bulky crap for public transport and we sold it years ago we never thought i would be able to fall pregnant and keep it going touch wood so never kept a thing!

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 15:20

I've just been on mothercare and had a mini heart attack at the prices! Beautiful prams and pushchairs but oh my god DH would drop dead! Think I paid about £270 for my loola in 2008, now they want £400-£1000 for prams! [shocked]

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 15:21

Shock even

pinksky · 12/03/2013 15:24

Jelly so sorry, but glad you're cleared out! Do you feel lighter? Grin

I was thinking of getting a second hand pram once I've worked out what I want... Any major drawbacks to that idea? There are heaps on ebay.

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 15:24

You ladies are naughty! I know want silver cross surf in aubergine!

Sal1977 · 12/03/2013 15:28

Haha Hayley, you read my mind!!

I'm not buying anything new for this poor bubba. My sister is giving us the pram she bought second hand....it's a...errr.....pram? Haha! We have black sacks of girls stuff and boys stuff ready to head our way and the only new things we will need to buy are bottles, nappies and other consumables. We're blinking lucky!!

Also am very jealous of people buying things. We've said we won't have any baby stuff in the house til at least the 3rd trimester cos we don' t want to jinx anything! Stoopid superstitions!

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 15:44

If baby is a girl the only things I will be having new is, a buggy as I only have a small stroller for dd now as our original travel system was faulty and was returned and refunded to kiddincareare at 1 year old. Plus dh mum Is buying it as she did with dd so would be rude not too haha. Plus a a swinging crib as dd didn't have one but are going to have one so baby can stay in our room longer this time as our 2 children will eventually be sharing and don't really have room for a full size cot in our room on a long term basis. Even if baby is a boy I will still use our pink bouncy chair and pink high hair, poor boy haha

Rockchick1984 · 12/03/2013 15:48

If I get a double that works well as a single too then I'm flogging my existing single to help pay for it; but if I buy one that only works as a double I'll keep my Babystyle Oyster to use when a double isn't required. I love my Oyster and will be sad to see it go :-(

Pinksky a preloved pram is fine as long as you can have a look at it before buying in my opinion - check that it's not wobbly to push, tyres aren't too worn etc. My friend got a second hand pram, and it reeked of smoke - she only paid about £30 for it but even washing all the fabrics down she could still smell it and it really put her off it. I know other people though who have bought them and had no problems and it's been a huge bargain. Only other issue is no warranty on the pram, but when I had a problem with my pram the manufacturer repaired it without seeing any proof of purchase so I guess that's just the luck of the draw!

pinksky · 12/03/2013 15:55

Thank you rockchick - there are plenty locally on ebay and most say you can view before offering, so I'll definitely go and look first. Thanks for the tips re testing and warranties!

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 16:12

A bit of an aside here but although I love MN for this thread I get really sad when I look around at other threads so many seem to be very against low income working class people ie: me! its a real eye opener and extremely disheartening just wish i could give them a day in the life sometimes then assumptions would not be so quick to be made.

Rockchick1984 · 12/03/2013 16:22

Falcon I think there's a good mix overall of people from different backgrounds on here, it's just the middle-class mums are the most common on here so tend to be the most vocal. (I'm also low income working class, you tend to pick up which regular posters are from a similar background to you). Is it anything in particular upsetting you?

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 16:28

falcon me and dh are also a low income working class family. Xx

Flyer747 · 12/03/2013 16:32

Falcon, don't let these other people get you down, people can sometimes be a bit prejudice and have lack of respect for others. In my opinion they are probably a little small minded and need to see the bigger picture. I bet you are a lovely lady and it shouldn't make any difference as to how much wealth you have, it's whats inside that counts. :-)

cazboldy · 12/03/2013 16:38

and us falcon

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 16:47

I love you all on here, there is a thread about Ian Duncan Smith wanting to stop any benefits for people with more than 2 kids, tax credits and child benefit, and a few not all some are lovely has a very bizarre view on poor people we are all devils because we claim working tax credit etc, for some of them it does not seem to cross there mind poor people might work at all they seem to think we are all feckless Hmm I got a bit of a shock at some peoples mindset is all.

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 16:54

Surely working for a low income and having it topped up with tax credits is better than not working at all falcon obviously if u need job seekers while u genuinely seek a job thats different its ppl that choose job seekers as a life style choice that annoy me. Xx

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 16:59

As they do me natalieland I am not entitled to JSA because hubs gets a student loan which puts us £3 over a week Hmm so in the process of starting my own business but i just feel that some posters cant see a full picture and I don't agree with the amount of children the state will help out with should be capped. circumstances can change so quick and only the kids will suffer is there is no help but i did not want to drag it over here i like this thread as its not so judgy Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 17:00

if not is pregnancy brain

pinksky · 12/03/2013 17:04

It's really disheartening sometimes, Falcon - try not to take it to heart (hard). I think many people have a totally unrealistic idea of life on a low income, and some don't realise how privileged their lives have been. But hopefully this thread is a safe space where our differences don't matter and we can all support one another on this journey Xx

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 17:10

I hope so pinksky I can't get through my day without seeing how everyone is doing I cant wait till we have all had our scans and can start to relax (I hope I can anyhow)

Natalieand · 12/03/2013 17:19

Oh that's so irritating te student loan thing falcon ATM just dh works and he is a car salesman. I haven't worked since dd was born as I decided not to return after my maternity, this time last year dh was on job seekers as he lost his job as a wheel clamper he's been re-employed since July so for us job seekers was a fill in the gap kind of thing. And it put food on the table- just about lol.

On a different note, I haven't had morning sickness yet and I'm 8+6, but I just opened a packet of mince to make chilli for dinner and as soon as I cut te packet open the smell sent me gagging whilst hovering over the bin all watery mouth etc it was horrible luckily not actual sick came out! Safe to say dh is now not gettin his much wanted chilli for dinner lol

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 17:23

falcon a lot of people seem to think you need loads of money to raise a baby but I know that's not true! Dds clothes get sold to fund her next ones. I am currently waiting to put all last years summer stuff on eBay to pay for get summer clothes this year. If you waited for the "right time" to have a baby I don't think anyone would! There would Keats be a reason why it wasn't suitable!

DH and I are earning what we need. If I wanted to earn more I could work full time but dd would be in Childcare most of the time which would take up my extra income anyway! We do have the odd treat but dont spend on unnecessary items. We do have a car each however but thats more of a necessity.

In other news..... I have a scan booked for Friday Grin
