Here you go. New thread...number 3!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pinksky · 12/03/2013 09:12

We'd like to find out the sex. I think it'll help DH bond with the baby, and I'm just impatient and nosy!

bowlful, no I don't have a scan date yet! But not booking in til next week and like you, they won't give me a date before then. And headaches - pretty common in pregnancy I'm afraid. I've had two focal migraines recently when I'd not had one in over a year. Paracetamol might help, but I find rest/darkness best!

favellio how lovely about your honeymoon, despite the lack of booze. Someone bought me a bottle of sainsburys no alcohol cider at the weekend and it was surprisingly nice.

Flyer747 · 12/03/2013 09:19

Pinksky, I'm totally the same as you impatient and nosy and hate surprises. However on this one I'm going to hold out and wait for the surprise at the birth, it's going to kill me waiting 6+ months to know the sex!

BowlFullofJelly · 12/03/2013 09:22

Thanks ladies - so consensus is get over myself? Think I agree Smile.

Also glad I am not the only one without a scan date, I don't feel so alone now.

wicked - may be setting myself up for a roasting as I know this is quite a contentious issue, but I have had the occasional glass of wine so far, and will continue to do so, as I did with my last pregnancy. I know my body and my limits, and there would have to be some pretty damning evidence (which there isn't!) to convince me that a glass or two of wine with a nice meal every few weeks is going to damage bubba. Having said that, I respect the views and choices of those that don't drink anything as it's not worth the risk (so please don't flame me Grin)

Rockchick1984 · 12/03/2013 09:23

Wicked I won't have any alcohol before 12 weeks but after that I probably will - last time I had a glass of wine with a meal roughly once a fortnight. Everything I've read says that a couple of units once or twice a week is fine.

We found out what we had last time and want tinkle this time too. Partially so DS can bond with the baby, but also I'm not a big fan of unisex clothes and I don't want to be going out buying baby clothes with a newborn - have kept all of DS's clothes but if we are having a girl then I'll want to shop! Not necessarily for all pink, but I do love frills and ruffles on a girl :)

pinksky · 12/03/2013 09:24

Flyer you're a stronger woman than I! I'm thinking that giving birth will be quite a surprise Grin but it's got to be pretty cool finding out at that point. Was your DH keen to wait too?

Flyer747 · 12/03/2013 09:29

Wicked, I'm also have the same view as bowlfullofjelly, a glass of red with dinner once a week or every other week is acceptable according to my doctors. Tried that alcohol free red wine the other week as I was hosting a dinner party and needed to fool people, omg it's minging, avoid at all costs haha!

Flyer747 · 12/03/2013 09:33

Pinksky, yeah he wanted to wait also. I've waited 34 years for this baby, been broody for a while now, I'm hoping I can wait another 6+ months. However I hate surprises, and go hunting for my Christmas presents (hidden in the house) before Xmas, so don't know how I'll manage to hold out :-)

cazboldy · 12/03/2013 09:36

I think we will keep the sex a surprise

I have only found out with one of mine (number 4) as dd1 was with me and desperately wanted a sister (she already had 2 brothers) and the sonographer said did we want to know, and she really did, so we did..... and it was another boy.... and she howled. I guess in a way it was a good thing, as she had some time to get used to the idea, and was ok with it by the time he was born...... and she got a little sister 15 months later Grin

I like not knowing

Tarlia · 12/03/2013 09:37

flyer good for you! We had a surprise last time too, but don't think we will this time. I don't need to do much shopping as I have some beautiful white, yellow, green and blue bits for newborn and 0-3 i also suspect this one is a boy too, but if not id like to get a couple of girly outfits.I think a surprise is 'in' at the moment as in 2010 gender neuteral was tough to find, but I noticed that its everywhere now.

HotSoupDumpling · 12/03/2013 09:38

bowlfull, I don't think anyone here has any grounds to flame you! As you say, it depends on your own body. I'm avoiding alcohol, but only because I'm a light-weight even when not pregnant. Otherwise I'd be having the occasional glass with a meal just to put nosy people off the scent!

pinksky · 12/03/2013 09:40

It'll be awesome, flyer - I'd be pretty proud of myself if I could wait.

Well I just measured myself and I've gone up two cup sizes. Going to order a couple of new bras today, hoping they'll see me through for a while, and maybe also post birth...

moonblues · 12/03/2013 09:44

Sorry tops & birds that you have had sad news.

I still haven't heard anything about my booking appointment or scan... I'm 9 weeks today, so not as far on as some of you ladies, but it would be nice to know I'm at least in the system. I went to see my GP 3 weeks ago, and she warned me I might not get my booking appointment til I was 12 weeks and then a scan at 16 weeks, so I'm trying not to stress about it...

I'm going to see my mum over Easter, when I'll be nearly 12 weeks, so was planning to tell her then, but feel I should tell my DCs at the same time, who are 5&3, but would prefer to have had a scan first or at least have someone listen in so that I'm a bit more confident that everything is ok.

When is everyone else telling their other DCs?

CelticPromise · 12/03/2013 09:48

Jelly I'm with you on the alcohol. Have had the odd glass of wine and low alcohol cider while watching the rugby!

We'll find out the sex. We did last time. We've got an extra scan booked at 16 weeks so will hopefully find out then.

pink I've also gone up, and bizarrely down in the back as I've lost weight recently. I've ordered two bras, hoping to get by with them til it all changes again!

Don't get measured at Mothercare anyone, I secret shopped them for one of the bra threads and they are hopeless.

HotSoupDumpling · 12/03/2013 09:52

Good tip celtic - I'll steer clear!

I'd rather not find out the sex, but it's very important to DH who is very nosy curious. Also it might help my MIL get over herself - ages ago she said something along the lines of 'I don't want you to have a girl...I don't get on with girls...' Shock.

Iheartcrunchiebars · 12/03/2013 09:56

Hi bowlful same here. Booking in appointment tomorrow when I will be 10 weeks. I'm going to try and be firm and ask for it in the next 2 weeks as after that work gets massively hectic and it will be very stressful to be leaving. Fingers crossed! But I imagine easter will put a stop to that.

Alcohol wise I have had a tiny bit of wine but I generally don't drink so it doesn't matter to me. However I can't see how a glass revert now and then will hurt. I'd be more worried about cleaning products etc (using them not drinking them!)

OP posts:
pinksky · 12/03/2013 10:01

Thanks for the tip, celtic - everyone raves about bravissimo but sadly none near me. I'm happy measuring myself but then each brand is so different, it's a bit meaningless.

moon that really doesn't seem on waiting til 16 weeks for your first scan. Can you harass the midwives?

slippysnow · 12/03/2013 10:14

Hiya, I feel so behind everyone else. I'm 7 + 1 today with booking in April 2nd scan April 15th. Just trying to stay positive and avoid being impatient, silver lining is that baby should be well developed with lots to see! I doubt anyone has to wait as long but if any scan buddy's are out there?

P.s my boobs are killing, still feel sun burnt I'm in agony especially when I walk the dog in the cold or get out the shower. I bought some cream, not as helpful as I thought :(

Sal1977 · 12/03/2013 10:19

We're definitely not going to find out the sex, I just think that when it pops out and they say "it's a boy/girl!", I'd be like "yeah I know". Haha..not quite as exciting in my world! My mum and sister are gagging to know, so that's quite fun to wind them up!

Booze wise, I'll have the odd glass of something when I fancy it, but I'm not a big drinker anyway, so don't see it as a problem. Had a delicious glass of champagne on Sunday! I specifically asked my MW if occasional drinks were ok and she said yes of course!

TheFalconsmistress · 12/03/2013 10:20

I am scared today I know its normal for my symptoms to have faded at this stage but my tummy doesn't hurt when I sneeze any more or lie on my front and now im worried honestly feel I cant win and I am never going to be able to enjoy this pregnancy Sad

roofio87 · 12/03/2013 10:23

wow, you manage to get a lie in and you miss so much on this thread!!! Haha!
I don't have scan date yet either, I'm 10w today!! had my booking in with community mw last week now waiting for hospital to organise app with a mw there and my scan date. tried ringing yesterday but she said they only got my referral on Fri so to ring back at the end of the week!! I'm worried dp won't be able to get the time off with it being such short notice!!
we'll definitely be finding out the sex, I couldn't wait!!
Hope everyone's doing alright this morning!!xx

cherrycherry41 · 12/03/2013 10:24

Think we'll be having a surprise here too! We had a surprise last time and it was a wonderful moment finding out after my EMCS that she was a she and not a he as we'd thought! We have plenty of nice neutral 0-3 clothes and we have the type of family to spend spend spend so we got a wardrobe full of girls clothes last time before we were even out of hospital. Only thing im worried about is the double pram ill need to get, dont want to get a plain boring one like last time!
I'll be having an ELCS so will want to look forward to finding out at the birth!

Haylebop12 · 12/03/2013 10:45

Ill be finding out the sex. I was against it with dd but glad DH talked me round as I felt I could really start bonding with the baby.

I too am not a big drinker but will have the odd glass of something one a week/fortnight.

Been sick this morning, not happy! I'm trying I hold onto the thought that's its gonna get worse before t gets better!

Iheartcrunchiebars · 12/03/2013 10:50

We're not finding out the sex either. We did talk about it but decided on a surprise. (And my mum would kill me!)
