Holiday sounds great dinky! Love Legoland but think DS is too young to really enjoy it yet. We have our last pre baby holiday for over Easter weekend, going to the fab Mazzard Farm self catering cottages. They have pretty much everything you need for babies/children and animals, loads of lovely forest/woodland and a yard with toys, scooters etc. Nice and relaxing!

dinkystinky · 12/03/2013 11:14

Which one am I thinking of that you can wear on your front or your back then (which is what I meant by the similar comment re the Beco)? Pregnancy brain clearly hitting hard today...

Your break over Easter sounds great Vinegar. Hope spring roles in soon!

Aww sounds lovely dinkystinky Dorset is near me so say hey if you see a pregnant woman walking around dragging loads of bags from mothercare Smile

Thanks for the moby insight VinegarDrinker

VinegarDrinker · 12/03/2013 11:45

dinky I think you are thinking of an Ergo? There are loads of similar soft structured carriers though.

dinkystinky · 12/03/2013 12:39

Yep that's the one Vinegar - thanks

Photographer I think it's a Moby I am buying but they're quite heavy (in terms on heat) and we're all due summer babies! I think I am also buying a ring sling for the summer and breastfeeding, TK MAXX up here are selling loads of ring slings, really pretty ones for £20.

Dinky Hope you enjoy your holiday! :)

Guavas I haven't been sick at all this time but I was sick several times a day the whole way through last time, including through labour! Try and see if you have a food trigger or through tiredness. If not you could get anti-emetics and take one when you start feeling sick.

Hai1988 · 12/03/2013 14:26

Omg im so tierd! All ive done is a bit of painting. Gotta find my second wind soonthough as have to sort my flat out as have someone viewing it 2moro.

dinky will take ur advice btw and tell sil to man up, im sure that will go down well :) enjoy your holiday btw

Thinkingof4 · 12/03/2013 14:41

Re slings I have a moby which I love for first few months but am a bit worried if we get a warm summer (long shot I know!) it will be far too warm for me and baby to wear. I also have a woven wrap called a girasol which is beautiful and probably would be a lot cooler but it's sooo long and I never really got the knack of it last time. Maybe I should start practicing now! I do also have a connecta Blush which will be ok when baby is sl bigger but not sure if I'd use it from tiny newborn stage (then again I may have a huge newborn so might feel ok!!)
Got to rush, boys to collect!

Guavasforbreakfast · 12/03/2013 15:05

Thanks all for sickness empathy. Was just in a bad mood this morning! I've pretty much narrowed it down to waking earlier than normal (so always Monday morning after my weekend lie ins) and if I've eaten dinner later than normal the night before - my food doesn't seem to digest after 9pm and DP is used to eating at 10 or later due to his job!

Schro that's interesting how different your pregnancies have been - was it a different sex last time? My sister felt sicker with her boys than with her girl. Fingers crossed the next one won't be as bad (I must be making some progress as I was resolute that I'd never do it again for most of the 1st trimesterGrin).

Listening intently to the sling chat - I've also wondered whether a Moby might be too hot with our summer babies, surely there's a heck of a lot of fabric tied around the two of you? My sister's lending me her Ergo but not sure how good for a newborn? I'm considering getting a more manly one for DP - leaning towards the Stokke mycarrier instead of a BabyBjorn; they look just as structured and plain, but legs are 'froggy' instead of dangling so better for hips?Any experience with one?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 12/03/2013 15:12

Guavas Tiredness can make you feel really sick from this point on. :(

And no, boy the last time and boy this time. Confused I have no idea why it is so different, I was really ill with a lot of problems the last time. Maybe my body is just more used to the changes because my 2 are so close together?

I think a Moby will be too hot for a warm summer. It is a lot of material and the structured carriers aren't good when they are teeny, it makes them sit in an un-natural position and they really hurt your shoulders. The bigger more seat like ones are good for when they are bigger though.

photographerlady · 12/03/2013 15:42

thanks the feedback regarding RE:slings the UK doesn't seem to have hot summers so just worried about getting a sling for summer that I will never use again. I guess that's what slingmeets and rentals are for. I am still leaning to the Moby when the weather chills out in late aug/sept

Cheeseandbread · 12/03/2013 16:52

No willy growing inside me Smile I'm on team pink.

Holiday sounds lovely dinky and vinegar very jealous.

Guava sorry you are still feeling poorly.

I bought a Calin bleu wrap from an nct sale which is a sort of muslin fabric- seems like it will be cool. I have practiced with a teddy Blush

Hope others that had scans today went well- it was actually quite scary while they were going through everything...

PhieEl06 · 12/03/2013 18:05

Evening ladies, had such a busy day today, feeling rather exhausted now. My best friend has brought me The Great British Bake Off, Learn to Bake book, with the message inside saying "at the moment there is no hope for you in the kitchen, we may as well give you a helping hand, here's to you being a domestic goddess!"

Bit late now but welcome Josine, congratulations on the baby girl! (Waves like a nutter)

Glad you had a nice weekend Ama!

Congratulations on the boy Schro!

Re Pre Baby Holiday - OH & I are going to Portugal 6th May for 10 days, which I did book before I found out I was PG, I am very excited but makes me a little sad that at 18 it's my last baby free holiday for a large number of years, I love my holidays, usually 2/3 a year! Sad

Cheese congratulations!!

21+3

CitizenOscar · 12/03/2013 18:59

I had DS1 in a warm June and I did find the Moby too warm. Mostly because I got a bit flustered trying to tie it but the fabric is quite warm. I think the calin blue is meant to be thinner. The ergo would also be warm as the newborn insert is like a mini duvet! I've got an ergo performance which I still use with DS now but it wouldn't be ideal for a summer newborn IMO.

I'm going to give the Moby another try this time because I think a stretchy wrap should be lovely with a snuggly newborn. Last time I switched to a Babyhawk at about 7 weeks so if I don't get on with the Moby I'll probably just use that instead.

Would definitely recommend a sling meet or sling library to try some out before buying if you can. You can always sell them if you don't get on with the one you buy but it'd be better to get it right first time, I guess.

Abzs · 12/03/2013 19:01

We are also booking a last holiday in mid May. We are thinking somewhere in the Kielder/Holy Island/Alnwick triangle. Some place Nice, with space to just relax if I feel fat and knackered. Any Northumbrians able to suggest anything? I last went there 23 years ago and DH has never been.

Going for a pub tea tonight for my birthday - above holiday is my present. In lieu of something on the day I have been to the Gap sale (again) and got some grandad style tops that are layerable now and feedable later.

Better go and see which of my pub type clothes still fit...

VinegarDrinker · 12/03/2013 19:45

We used the Connecta from newborn with DS as a second carrier - I could feed in it whereas I couldn't get the knack with the Moby. It is also a good warm weather option. Not nearly as cuddly as a stretchy wrap though!

VinegarDrinker · 12/03/2013 19:46

Happy Birthday Abz!

dinkystinky · 12/03/2013 20:08

Happy birthday Abzs - hope you have a lovely birthday meal out. We went to a friends wedding in Alnmouth - v near Alnwick - which was really lovely.

Congrats on pink bump Cheese.

Phie - holiday in Portugal also sounds great. We went to Lisbon in October with the kids which was lovely - the Portuguese love children!

Re summer babies and slings - the last hot summer I can remember was from 2006 (Ds born in late April that year). We baby carried a lot (he hated his buggy) in a baby Bjorn (not the summer version) and he was OK - just tried to make sure it wasn't for too long/ in worst of the heat.

Happy birthday Abzs hope you have a lovely meal tonight and settle on somewhere nice for your holiday. Northumberland is one area of the UK I don't know very well I'm afraid. We are off for a break on Anglessey in N Wales for my birthday at the end of May - DH wants to learn how to kite surf Confused whilst I intend to be sat on the beach, weather permitting, with a good book.

Phie it is scary to think of all those years ahead where it will be child focused holidays and no more doing what you feel like. But just think, by the time your little one is getting too old for holidays with mum and dad you'll still be sprightly in your mid-30's, whereas us older mums will be well into our 50's and looking at the Saga brochure!

Guavas really sorry you are still throwing up. I haven't actually been sick since 13 weeks but still feel nauseous after dinner most evenings. That is bad enough so I really feel for you.

I treated myself to a couple of pairs of maternity jeans from New Look today - I was getting so sick of living in leggings and the one pair of ultra uncomfortable under bump jeans I got in an ebay bundle. Why oh why though do they have to put the maternity stuff in the furthest corner of the upstairs floor of the store, and then make you walk back downstairs to the fitting room?! It feels like some kind of conspiracy to make pregnant ladies walk further!

Still looking in vain for a linea negra but nothing there as yet. On the plus side my bump is now growing so fast I swear if I stared at it long enough I would see it getting bigger! There'll be no more hiding it soon Smile

VinegarDrinker · 12/03/2013 21:35

Ama were you at Westfield Stratford by any chance? Or are all New Looks so stupidly laid out?!

VinegarDrinker · 12/03/2013 21:36

Oh, and meant to say I am 24 weeks today! Hooray! < does a small "viability" dance >

Thinkingof4 · 12/03/2013 21:51

Me too vinegar it's a nice milestone to get to isn't it!

lizincornwall · 12/03/2013 22:10

Very jealous of the holidays ladies, they sound wonderful :)

Great sling discussion - will look up some of the brands i haven't heard of. I used a babsling for the first weeks with DD,hoping that will work again. I LOVE my Moby wrap, but have same 'summer heat' worries, but i guess I'll try to work out some of the more complex baba sling positions!

Scan today - small head (5th percentile), so scan again in 2 weeks. This happened with DD, and she was a normal 6lb12oz at birth, so just hoping it means a healthy small baby again & thinking i should be grateful that a small head is on its way....

We're team pink! Yeay for reusing all the baby clothes we already have!!!

SlouchingPanda · 12/03/2013 22:15

Wow! Viability! Congratulations Vinegar and ThinkingOf4 - still over a week away for me, but never ever thought I'd get even this far when I got a BFP back in November!

Happy birthday Absz and Happy Pink Bump / No Willy day, Cheese Grin

22+5 - and DH felt a kick yesterday!

SlouchingPanda · 12/03/2013 22:16

Cross post with Liz - happy pink bump day to you too!
