Wow, it's been a busy couple of days on the thread Smile

Twinkle thinking of you and hope you get some reassurance soon. As others have said many babies are born with a hole in their heart and go on to be absolutely fine.

I think I am probably one of the oldest on the thread to be having their DC1 - I'll be 36 in May, so another one who's theoretically old enough to be Phie or Ginger's mother! All credit to you though, ladies, you sound a whole lot more mature than I was at 18!

Congratulations on the good scans everyone!

MarieKL · 07/03/2013 22:03

Twinkle good to know they've picked it up early. I hope Tuesday comes quickly for you and provides reassurance.

Cut and Beginning you need to give your employer 15 weeks written notice before the beginning of the week your baby is due if you want to take mat leave. See link below. Beginning sorry to hear you aren't getting as much maternity pay as you originally thought. Schro I don't know which sector you work in but if you do get the job its worth checking the staff handbook. In the NHS (under agenda for change) it looks like if your contract is due to terminate between 11th week before you give birth and the week you are due they extend your contract to cover your maternity leave.

www.gov.uk/maternity-leave

Totally, Thinking and Abzs I'm 34 as well, but as my birthday is in July, depending on when baby arrives I may well be 35!

Trust yay on bump appearing!

Phie so glad your private scan was a positive experience.

I have no idea how all you ladies with SPD, back pain and other medical issues are copying. I feel terrible when I just get a sniffle Smile.

cheekbyjowl · 07/03/2013 22:39

What is spd? I can't work it out twinkle I have a hole in my heart too. But my mum failed to mention it until I was 24. I at the time I was commenting on the fact that my cousins son had one when my mum said 'oh well so do you, but it's never bothered you'. She was right. Smile I know that there can be different levels of severity but it doesn't always need to be a worry. I've never noticed mine

I quite like henrietta I think you should pick it Grin

dinkystinky · 08/03/2013 06:40

Cheek - its symphisis pelvic disorder, also known as pelvic girdle pain (pgp). Relaxin hormone in pregnancy makes pelvic area unstable (its meant to help things stretch and soften for all for birth prep - for some it goes too far) causing body misalignment, pain, difficulty walking - in really bad cases people can end up on crutches or in a wheelchair.

Marie - in my firm if you are a contractor on a fixed contract you get zip if your contract ends before mat leave starts. I think the NHS position is the most generous I have heard of.

Had bad nights sleep last night - lots of hot flushes - can't work out if its just pregnancy or another lurgy setting in. Oh well, time will tell!

Morning everyone!
Good luck with scans today.
I'm having real trouble getting used to sleeping on my side. It's not really working at all. I keep waking up with uncomfortable hips or shoulders or just lying on my back again.

AmaDablam · 08/03/2013 07:10

Morning Totally - yep me too, exactly the same. I now have an assortment of pillows and a wedge but nothing seems to work. I was somewhat reassured when SiL told me that she spent most of her pregnancies sleeping on her back as it was the only way she could get comfy. It doesn't seem to have had any effect on her or her 2 DS's.

Baby is now starting to kick in response to having a hand or gentle prod on my belly. She did it for her daddy last night which was lovely, although still too gentle for him to feel Smile

We're off to spend the night in a hotel tonight (surprise location - DH has organised it!) for our anniversary. A bit extravagant I know but we figured it's going to be the last time in a while we can do it. It's actually our anniversary of getting together as our wedding anniversary is just a few days after the baby is due so we've decided to move it!

Have a good day and good luck to any remaining 20 week scanees.

Wow a lot to catch up on. On phone so no way I can remember everyone for comments. Just nice to hear that everyone's getting along ok.

We have just made (after 2 days of researching) to go for reusable nappies! Feeling excited and a bit Hmm Have a 1 year old so she's going to be our trial run so it's not do much of a shock when the newbie comes.

Also feel proud that I have gone from knowing nothing and getting overwhelmed to knowing all the lingo - with a lot of help from Mum's on my baby bus from dd.

We have decided to go for bumgenius freetime, going to see how they cope with nighttimes then maybe get some bamboozles if we need them.

Any advice from more experienced real nappy users?

Hai1988 · 08/03/2013 07:57

Hey all

Sorry to hear some of you are surrering with spd and pgp :(

Last night i had a really servre migrain so much so it kinda scared me, had blurred vision and got really confused couldnt remember silly lil things. It wasnt good :(

Slept it off now i think although it still hurtwhen i sneezed just now :(

On the plus side dh got to feel kicks last night for the first time :)

Hope everyone else is well tho

Grannyapple · 08/03/2013 08:10

Scan day is here at last...just wanted to say good luck too to BadmissM-think we're scan twins today?

Devilforasideboard · 08/03/2013 08:18

Huge sympathy Hai, my migraines are like that and it can be really scary. I just have to keep telling myself it will pass and try not to panic. It's a bugger not being able to take proper painkillers for them (I have Sumatriptan normally which stops them after the flashing lights/confusion stage before the pain kicks in).

Hoping this weekend passes quickly for you Twinkle and sending positive thoughts your way.

I've got a day off today which I plan on mostly spending lazing around as I'm knackered. I need my boss to get his finger out and agree to changing my working pattern so I don't have to cram so many hours into my working day - really starting to feel the physical effects of getting bigger now.

dinkystinky · 08/03/2013 09:10

Good luck for your scan Grannyapples (and anyone else up for a scan today) and hope you have a lovely lazy day off Devil. Ama, hope you have a lovely night away. Believe it or not, nights/weekends away are still pretty easy when the baby is little - just take them with you! But you dont get lie ins in the same way again, so make sure you really make the most of it before baby arrives.

Hai - that migraine sounds horrible. Do you normally suffer from migraines? Keep your fluids up and take it easy today.

I tend to feel Bean kicking away really low down in my bump but last night think Bean was pogo sticking or somethign as alternated between low down movements and movements right up at the top of my bump. And could feel Bean hiccuping away which was v cute - DS1 used to have epic hiccups in utero and when he came out too.

ps latest report from tightwatch - the H&M Mama tights I have on today (knitted black ones, have sized up to L) are staying put so far, without having to go all superman on them. So sizing up and H&M knitted and Vertbaudet tights are winners!

Morning all! Hope everyone's scans go well today! I have a long & boring day at work ahead, nothing to do so will be Internet shopping & trailing mumsnet all day waiting patiently for a call from my boss.

Morning all! Good grief, I can't keep up with you guys at the moment. :)
Sympathy for the migraine - I suffer from then too occasionally, its awful when you can't take anything strong enough to get rid of them. I usually have to just try and sleep it off.

I'm 34 but on dc2 (I was 33 when my first was born).

We've booked a private gender scan for next weekend (our hospital won't tell you at 20 wk scan), can't wait!

Good luck to all with scans today.

AmaDablam have a lovely night away and happy anniversary!

TotallyEggFlipped you sound like you are getting the same sort of sleep I am, I just can't get comfortable at all no matter how many duvets and pillows.

dinkystinky hopefully its a random hot flash, no one wants to spend the weekend poorly.

Calmisthemantra I purchased a mix of bumgenius free times, totbots, little lambs all in ones and also some wraps and prefolds. Some new and some preloved from ladies on facebook. I was worried about sticking to one brand of cloth nappies just in case the LO gets rashes or doesn't fit a certain one well. Prefolds are a bit more work but dry so fast and for days around the house I think they will work fine.

Good luck on the scans today Grannyapples and BadMissM

Lovely to hear people are feeling kicks!

MightBeMad · 08/03/2013 10:55

Good luck on the scan granny and missm!!

Having a nightmare week here but will catch up properly soon x

dinkystinky · 08/03/2013 11:10

Totally, Photographer - if the only way you can sleep is on your back, do so. Its important for you to feel rested. You could sleep on your back on an incline if really worried about blood flow/vena cava restriction issues. Sleeping on your left is recommended, not obligatory.

OP posts:
photographerlady · 08/03/2013 11:18

I hear you dinkystinky I have noticed a new nights I wake up on my back most times I try and wedge a pillow on one side to keep me rolled over. I am assuming the stick "no sleeping on back" rule applies more later in pregnancy

bigbelly4 · 08/03/2013 12:28

Well I am feeling so much better today and dont look like poo now!

Good luck for scans today!

I had a massive panic just now, popped to the loo and had a huge red line down my belly. Thinking OMG its a bloody great stretch mark then oh actually its the line from my tights! How dim is that! Think baby brain has well and truely kicked in, dopey mare. But yes, H&M tights stay up!

On the age front, im 35 but on number 4. But tbh I have huge respect for young mums, that I probably didnt have before having my own babies, becuase im not sure I would have coped at 18!

DH working all weekend so have given in to 3 gremlins wish and we are going to look at a few baby things (teddy bear/neutral vests etc) tomorrow. Not sure who is more excited, them or me! Also going to try car seats and how they will all fit in as I really dont want to change my lovely car. Need isofix so there is no accidental undoing of seatbelts, and. Two are on boosters so need to see if they all fit in with eldest in front.

My MW said not to worry too much about sleeping on your back, as your body will wake you up before any problems kick in, hope that helps!

Grannyapple · 08/03/2013 13:35

Hi ladies-all went well at scan. I have a low lying placenta at the mo so go back at 32wks for another scan to check. But we're team pink here too...lovely to have one of each but still in shock as I'd assumed this one was a boy too! Best sort out ds's clothes then...

Hope badmissm has/had a good scan too.

PhieEl06 · 08/03/2013 13:51

Congratulations Granny on your little girl & glad all went well.
Seems to be lots of little girls! Smile

photographerlady · 08/03/2013 14:56

welcome to team pink Grannyapple Glad the scan went well. Anyone mind if I add a list of gender to our stats thread?

Sounds like a lovely idea photographer. Grin

photographerlady · 08/03/2013 15:49

done! Can you tell I am having a very very slow Friday at the office?

MightBeMad · 08/03/2013 16:08

I've added mine too. Can't remember who was asking about baby weight at 20 weeks? I had my scan at 19+6 and apparently my little boy was about 12oz. Anyone know if that's a lot/a little/bang in the middle?

Congrats on good scan granny!!

Hoping badmissm is alo haing a good one.
