MightbeMad - I think running for as long as you arent overdoing it (so dropping intensity and distance) and no other issues is ok as long as you're feeling up to it. But your friend is right - its not great for your pelvic floor and given your history it sounds like you're doing the right thing by changing your work outs. Hurrah for stopping bleeding - enjoy the pool.

Orangebubbles, I'm still exercising - bodycombat once a week, pilates once or twice a week, gym work out (re gym work out - you may need to start adapting weights work outs now you're in the second trimester and will definitely need to adapt as you get to the third trimester - there are some good pregnancy weight work out books available), weights/boxing session with a trainer once a week and pregnancy yoga once a week. Will keep up with bodycombat and gym work out until third trimester and see how I feel and then probably swap to other things.

MightBeMad · 30/01/2013 11:05

Thanks all, I know it's the right decision for me but I do miss it. Still, DH and I have promised ourselves that we're going to enter a local santa fun run in December and do it with both babes in a double buggy Grin Even if we just walk round, it at least gives me a target to aim for (I've promised myself that for my long term health I'm not going to start running again uuntil at least 3 months after delivery and take it gradually). We did an 8km last year with dc1 in the buggy (she would have been about 8 months) and she slept the whole way round! Grin

BB, I was going to do aqua natal at my local pool but they've cancelled the class and I'm struggling to find another one, but I would really like to. will let you know what it's like if I manage it!

Abzs · 30/01/2013 11:08

So envious of those still running! I haven't run since November. I had a massive and sudden drop off in fitness and energy at 8 weeks and haven't felt well enough to recover any. I think it may be too late now.

I'm considering trying a pilates/yoga dvd but suspect I wouldn't do it often enough.

If DH keeps going to intervals, I can swim at the same time and still keep in touch with friends form the running club.

BB01 · 30/01/2013 11:46

Abzs, you could try speedwalking as an alternative, or try slow jogging alternated with walking??

Swimming supposed to be so good for you..much easier on your joints etc too.

I feel a bit left out as I had to quit the boot camp style class I did too...too much ab work lying down and rough stuff!! Unfortunately a lot of my social circle revolved round it so having to really make a big effort to keep in touch with people and make new friends.

MightBeMad, I thought there'd be classes all over the place but am also struggling to find ones nearby. Yes, keep me posted! The fun run sounds great and it's good to have a target, whatever that may be.

BB01 · 30/01/2013 11:48

It's 11.45 and so far today I have eaten
Big bowl porridge
Choc flapjack
Handful almonds, raisins and 2 choc chips
2 big homemade sarnies with chicken, cheese and tomato
Packet of crisps
Apple
Ahhhhhrrrrrrr!!! Anyone else have days when they randomly cannot stop eating?? I always eat a lot but this really is ridiculous

VinegarDrinker · 30/01/2013 11:52

Re exercise, after a seriously grim 1st trimester, I was back cycling to work (12 miles/day) until the snow hit. I feel very unfit now and desperate for the weather to improve enough for me to cycle regularly.

photographerlady · 30/01/2013 11:54

I hear you BB01 Ive had egg and soldiers for breakfast, 2 peaches, 2 handfuls of dried apricots, then loads of dates and just polished off a snack side cashews. Oh look at that its lunch time!

BB, inspired by your comments, I think I may have just found a class!! It's with this company: www.turtletots.com/index.php they seem to have quite a few in the south east (don't know if that helps you??)

dinkystinky · 30/01/2013 12:40

BB01 - pre-pregnancy I used to do plenty of hardcore exercise and had to drop the more hardcore stuff (kettle bells/circuits etc) so know how you feel. But I'm trying to see this time as one when I can and should slow things down and enjoy doing things which work for my changing body and know I will have plenty of time after the baby arrives to get my fitness levels back up. Am also munching away lots in this pregnancy - I find if I dont I tend to get heartburn so good excuse to snack little and often..

AmaDablam · 30/01/2013 13:24

OK now I feel bad. Just went to have bloods re-done with MW#3 and found out the reason I couldn't see MW#1 (my allocated one) on Monday was because she's broken her leg in 3 places! And there's me ranting away about it on here Blush! Why didn't MW#2 tell me?!

Also lost blood results seem to have mysteriously turned up now, so I only had to be relieved of one tube of blood today (triple test). Happy days, although not for the poor broken MW, obviously...

BB01 · 30/01/2013 13:36

AmaDablam, oh dear, don't worry though - it's only natural you were disappointed!!

Dinkystinky glad it's not just me munching their way through the day and yes in a way it is nice to be able to do some more gentle exercise without feeling guilty for not giving my body a good pounding!!! Also getting body back to a better level of fitness after might be a nice way to have a project that's just yours and not baby related...that's the way I'm trying to think of it!

MightBeMad, brill - the class looks great! I'm up north so no good for me but the chances are there'll be something similar somewhere so I may take another look! Hope you manage to go along.

Photographerlady, yaay - ok, your choice of foodstuff sounds a bit healthier than mine (I am feeling partic naughty at the mo) but still, impressive before midday!!

Abzs · 30/01/2013 14:15
MightBeMad · 30/01/2013 14:16

The course isn't running due to lack of numbers Sad humph!

photographerlady · 30/01/2013 14:53

oh I am only playing teacher's pet because my diet has been appalling the last few weeks and I am going to have another round of bloods soon and really do not want to be told my iron is low. So its dried fruit and nuts but seeing I am greedy I am overdoing it and stuffing my face. I am so stubborn.

WeeS · 30/01/2013 15:45

Hello everyone, I've only just found this thread!!

Due with my first on the 5th July. Havent a clue what I'm doing!

Smile
orangebubbles · 30/01/2013 15:47

See, it's the type of and quantity of crap going down my throat that is my motivation to keep exercising otherwise I'll be huge by 40 weeks!!!

Photographer I'm dribbling at the thought of soft boiled eggs... mmmmmm I treated myself to a lovely bacon sarnie this morning but oooh I would have loved a nice runny fried egg with that!

dinky yes I've given up weights for now, I'm just concentrating on cardio and core stability through pilate's based exercises.

flying must be very frustrating but I think walking and low impact is the way forward with the bleeding.

totally mightbe I'm barely achieveing a run more like a jog and I must confess it's a struggle and getting harder and harder but I am just chuffed I'm managing to at least try and every little helps.

Actually anyone still exercising don't forget that you should not be laying on your back after 16 weeks as it can restrict blood flow to baby. So things like sit ups etc are not recommended.

Ama Don't worry, you weren't to know and glad you didn't have to go through the whole thing again.

dinkystinky · 30/01/2013 15:48

Welcome WeeS - feel free to add yourself onto the due date list a few posts up..

Photographerlady - your diet sounds much healthier than the packet of haribos I just munched. Ate my bodweight in haribo when pregnant with DS2 too - and his dream diet is pretty much what you described you ate today. Whereas with DS1 I ate lots of fruit and veg and he just loves carbs and sweets. Go figure.

dinkystinky · 30/01/2013 15:49

Ama - you so werent to know about your midwife's accident! Glad the PCT 's computers are workign this week though.

elliejjtiny · 30/01/2013 17:08

Ama you couldn't have known your midwife had had an accident. I find doing a mixture of cloth and disposeable great because some of DS3's trousers don't fit over cloth so I use disposables then. There's less likely to be a "oh no, I've run out of nappies" situation when you have both kinds too and you end up with the best of both worlds.

I had my registrar appointment today. Registrar was quite dismissive I thought and completely ignored me when I said I didn't want the proper GTT if I still have morning sickness then but I would be willing to have the random finger prick test. I'll talk to the midwife on friday about that and see what she says. The anaesthetist was lovely though and even did my booking blood test for me.

17+5

BadMissM · 30/01/2013 17:47

You're all so healthy with the exercise, it's making me tired to read it!!!

My diet had to go healthy because of the gestational diabetes.... so no cake for me!

pearlsthatwere · 30/01/2013 18:23

New to Mumsnet and new to having babies - but I'm due on July 12 so thought I'd say hello here!

Just to pick up on the exercise thing, does anyone have thoughts about maternity swimwear? I'm not sure whether to go for a costume or a tankini; no idea how big I'll get, or if there are other practical things to consider.

trustissues75 · 30/01/2013 18:51

Just adding myself in.

All this talk of exercise is making me feel guilty - and a little worried. DC1 was a non-eventful pregnancy with a non-eventful birth - I was 28 and very fit and healthy and was back into my normal clothes two weeks post birth and weighing the same as my wedding day. 8 years on and I'm 2 stone heavier and have been unable to step inside a gym for 2 years - I'm very worried that I'll get high blood pressure and all the other stuff that comes with not looking after my body. My diet is atrocious - used to practically live on veg and fruit smoothies, flax, whole grains etc...now I've developed a sugar craving that's at least 12 months into having its grip on me, I'm not overly keen on vegetables and have lost my love of cooking.

Welcome Pearls - add yourself and your due date to the list Trust just updated. If into serious swimming go for a proper maternity swim costume - if just for holidays go for a tankini (not v supportive in my experience but I have big boobs even when not pregnant so they are enormous by the end of 9 months of pregnancy!).

Trust - your body has given birth before so you known it can do it again. Maybe look on the pregnancy as an excuse to refind your cooking mojo and get into smoothies etc(gives you the sugar in a healthier way) if you are really worried about it.
