Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Baby activity is really strange isn't it... Sometimes there is loads - like the other night when I was lying on the sofa, it felt like there was a party going on in there. It was the first time I could actually see my belly moving. So weird! My dh has been away for the last 2 weeks and he gets back tomorrow. I think he is going to be quite surprised by the change in his wife! Having staying pretty small up until now (lots of comments about how I didn't have a bump at all - grrr!) I seem to have had a proper growth spurt over the past few days. I'm a bridesmaid in 2 weeks time, so am hoping that this extreme bump growth doesn't get out of hand!

Talking of mixed units with pregnant women and people after birth reminds me of being at the hospital this morning. While I was waiting to be assessed I was put in a cubicle next to a woman who gave birth 2 weeks ago. I had to listen through the curtain to some pretty gruesome details of her birth - the forceps, stiches, incontinence, pain, infections etc. Having felt pretty calm about the birth up until now, I could feel my anxiety levels going up by the second! Her little baby was making really sweet noises though, which I tried to concentrate on!

My baby loves hearing daddy's voice. Movements are so much stronger when he is around.

Roast- I'm also a bridesmaid in 2 weeks for my little sister. I tried my dress on at the weekend with the all important underwear and it is fitting ok! Hope baby doesn't grow too much in the next 2 weeks.

I saw midwife yesterday and she has booked my in for a GTT. Had anyone else had one of these? Also booked in for 2 extra scans because of my BMI. Don't mind the scans but not keen on the GTT Hmm

It's so lovely to hear some good news from the lovely May girlies.Grin

I'm absolutely worn out today so it's a sandwich for tea and bed very soon.

X

MaybeAMayBaby · 29/01/2013 18:38

Brilliant news, 10 and beaver! Such a massive relief for you both.

Beaut I'm also out of breath a lot. But I'm not exactly fit to begin with.

Thanks for the C-section info Moo. My DD is pretty independent (v annoying at time) but also has bouts of doing zilch for herself. A few more months to sort it. I'm planning on leaving her full time nursery for the first few weeks anyway. DH will take her etc.

So, growth scan today. Baby is just below the 10th percentile which has got me worried. They don't seem overly concerned but are giving me another scan in 3 weeks. From what I can tell, it's the weight that is low, the other measurements are higher? Also, can I ask where people are feeling baby move? Mine are still very low down. Pubic bone 90% of time. And today during the scan, the sonographer tilted the bed by about 45 degrees with my head on floor and legs in air, to get baby to move out of my pelvis! Never had this before and now wondering if baby is too low in pelvis and stunting growth Confused.

Also asked abou mole and was told 'not normal' for it to grow in pregnancy, so no I've been told to make an urgent appt with GP. Really not what I wanted to hear.

Thanks for reminder on matB form. Have a MW appt next week.

Lol at the baby movement stories. DP has been kicked in the back a few times and in the face when he lay his head on bump to talk to him/her. He/she waits til I'm relaxing and trying to sleep to start partying but also seems to respond to DPs voice. I had quite a few posts to catch up on and can't remember who said what but to the ladies who are having a tough or scary time ATM, I hope all is going well. I'm starting to find myself needing to sit every 5 mins because I get tired from standing and so I feel like I'm getting lazy. I have also developed a definite waddle now, I move like a bloody penguin. Lol x

MammaBrussels · 29/01/2013 20:23

Maybe I'm getting movements low down and high up. I think it's kicks and punches. Re the scan data with DS I had scans every week for the 5 weeks before his birth. My Obstetrician told me at about 36 weeks (I think) that he was already over 4kgs! At the next appointment he was 3kg Hmm. The scanner's computer works it out based on the measurements they take which don't appear, to me at least, to be very accurate. I'd imagine that this must be especially true if the baby is difficult to scan because of their position.

berri · 29/01/2013 20:33

Rachy - I have the test on Thursday actually, they test absolutely everyone here (USA) for some reason? I've been told to expect a long appointment....

Maybe that's annoying about your mole - when's your gp appt going to be?

10 I'm so pleased to hear the clot has shrunk! Great news. Now stay on that sofa!!

Ellypoo · 29/01/2013 20:58

I am having the GTT 2 wks on Fri when I go for next growth scan, will be a long & boring appt by all accounts so am going to take a book to read!!

Re growth scans, I believe the weight can be really inaccurate, the measurements are most important I think, so try not to worry x

Am absolutely shattered atm, had to lie down for half an hr earlier and can barely keep my eyes open now!!

Am sleeping pretty well, horlicks or ovaltine before bed, having vivid dreams again and wake up quite a bit when I move, which is quite a bit because I can't get/stay comfy!! It's all good fun!

LittleSpade · 29/01/2013 21:47

Really great news beaver and 10 Smile - please keep resting!

Sorry to hear you've had worrying news maybe but like others have said hopefully they're not too worried or presumably they'd be scanning you even more often but get thee to your GP regarding that mole!

Wanted to say thanks again for everyone's support and words of encouragement yesterday - it really helped me feel like i wasn't been a crazy/grumpy hormonal pregnant person and that i really had been treated badly and also gave me the confidence to do something about it.

I called the birthing centre and spoke to my normal midwife tonight and she was really kind and reassuring. She went through each of my concerns in turn and gave me a proper explanation and reassurance. Although i did feel slightly like i was going 'and another thing, and another' by the end. She has referred me for physio on my hip and said that she'll check my blood pressure thoroughly at my next appointment to ensure its not continuing to go up. It was slightly embarassing that she clearly knew who i was complaining about but I'm still glad i did it. Also had the bonus of me finding out that she can do my 28 week bloods rather than me needing to go to the hospital seperately for them.

scooby26 · 30/01/2013 08:44

Maybe- try not to worry... Growth scans are often wrong- and in any case nothing at all wrong with small but perfectly formed- out of 100 babies percentile - ten will be the smallest! ;-)

10- soo pleased that you have finally had some positive news!

6 days into the parents house- 8 to go...!

OP posts:
beaver33 · 30/01/2013 09:27

To all those talking about growth scans - is that a standard thing? I get another scan at 32 weeks but I thought that was really unusual, and basically because I'm booked into a big teaching hospital.

25+2

Artigene · 30/01/2013 10:07

Just back from my growth scan and uterine artery check. Beaver, here growth scans are only given if you have risk factors such as, in my case, preeclampsia. Anyway, all good, baby actually a tiny bit bigger than average. Uterine artery pressure now within normal range albeit at the high end of that range. Umbilical arteries perfect. BP good and no more protein - so basically all great news.

10, I was so pleased to hear that your bleed has shrunk and baby is growing. Such fab news! Keep resting. I recommend box sets of Homeland, Breaking Bad and if you like dark Scandinavian stuff then The Killing.

Wirra, I've just seen you post on FB and noticed we have two mutual friends, one of whom I've known since I was 5. Small world!

SeaSalt1 · 30/01/2013 11:07

Wirra, Artigene's post prompted me to look and we have 10 (TEN!) mutual friends in common on FB. That's amazing! I don't think I've ever met you but it's possible we played in concerts together (back in the days when I was actually playing... ahem).

10 so happy to hear things are improving, have been thinking about you and crossing fingers!

Artigene, excellent news re: arteries / blood pressure etc. Must be v. reassuring - hope it helps you relax over the next few weeks.

Thanks to those of you who have asked after me in the last few days. The ECG machine I wore over the weekend showed that I have a bit of a funny heart rhythm (which wasn't a massive surprise to me as I feel it sometimes) but the cardiologist has said that it isn't a problem because the extra beats are generated from a certain part of my heart. Hooray!

The clinic also scared the wits out of me by telling me one of my blood tests had come back with an anomaly that might indicate a particular cancer. I had an ultrasound and they didn't find a tumour (hooray again!) and the consultant believes the anomalous result was due to a raised level of something in my blood that occurs in pregnancy.

I am still waiting for further test results but some of the real nasties have been ruled out as you can see above, which is great. I'm just taking one day at a time and hoping the news continues to be good. It has been a real roller-coaster, first wondering if I had a heart problem, and then cancer, so I am emotionally exhausted, but holding up ok. Fingers crossed the rest of the results come back ok.

Thanks for all your support ladies, you are brilliant!

Ellypoo · 30/01/2013 12:44

Great news arti!

Crikey seasalt, that is a real rollercoaster, great news so far though.

beaver I am only having the growth scans because I'm high risk due to my history - certainly not standard.

Only got 7 weeks left at work after this week now, and have got 1 day/week booked off from next week, so hoping that will fly by and I'll have more energy! Am like a zombie at the moment, it's crazy! Think it's the stress/worry/anxiety just taking it all out of me.

MooLL · 30/01/2013 16:04

Big MOAN alert!!! ... had consultants appointment .. meant to be at 9.30am ... at 10.15 after I had seen a ton of other women come and go after their appointments I enquired whether my notes had been handed over - for the receptionist to come back and say yes and that the wait was because unlike many I was seeing the consultant ... 20 mins later she saw me still sitting there and went to investigate - only to come back and say they didnt have my maternity notes and was I sure I had handed them over ... after a quick think (as with my brain anything was possible) I did confirm I had ... anyhow another 15 mins later the receptionist found them at her desk under a pile of paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEN my consultant had the cheek to comment that my bp was higher than she would like - no bloody wonder after that little experience!!!!! annoyingly it means I am now booked in for growth scans at 28 and 32 weeks, bp checks at my GPs and when I asked about getting at date for my ELCS at 30 weeks she almost laughed and said 'well if you get that far' ... I can just tell she thinks it will be out sooner than that ....

MooLL · 30/01/2013 16:05

was meant to be ELCS at 39 weeks not 30

shelly81 · 30/01/2013 16:30

Hope all you ladies that are struggling are feeling a little better & 10 & beaver glad things are looking bright. I have to have another Gtt in 2 week because I still have glucose in my urine MW will not seem to listen that I had it all the way through with both other DC's and nothing ever came of it apart from big babas. I also have to have a growth scan which really are crap at estimating the weight but lovely to see baba again I got told with both DS's that they were 8lb max they were both over 10lb haha xxx

MaybeAMayBaby · 30/01/2013 16:44

shelly does that not indicate gestational diabetes? Both the big babies and glucose? Sorry if I've missed something.

Moo same thing happened to me during last pregnancy. I was sat in the hospital still waiting at nearly 5pm (appt at 1.30!). I was furious! In this case it was after bp checks and the nurse had misplaced it instead of putting it on doctor's pile of notes.

seasalt is it ectopic beats that you have? If so, they ARE completely normal. My DH had them loads after his stroke etc and I was worried sick but we were always reassured. He was told to cut caffeine and take more exercise. Not really great advice for a pregnant woman!

Day off tomorrow. More hospital appts and hopefully GP about this mole.

Off to check fb for mutual friends. I have noticed at least two of you live very close!

goldmaple · 30/01/2013 17:29

Glad to hear that everyone is doing better (10 & beaver)
I have my GTT today... So that should be fun. DH is looking after DD in the morning so I am actually looking forward to the hour of sitting still and reading:) I'm in Canada so that's why the timing seems odd.

Beautician - I feel like the baby has run out of room as well. Most likely he is just getting himself into awkward positions but its hard to believe that I will be getting a lot bigger.

Frankie - I can't remember the name of the pillow but I have a large c-shaped one. I use it from about 12 weeks on... It is amazing. It does take up a fair bit of space on the bed.

Moo & maybe - I thought 45 mins of waiting was bad!! Especially if it was due to a mistake and not the GP being busy!!

Has anyone started their nursery yet? Any theme ideas? Anyone with a DC keeping their DC1 in their room (the nursery) or moving them to a big kid room? I can't decide!

Wirrawoo · 30/01/2013 18:15

artigene and seasalt It's such a small world! All those lovely mutual FB friends and have realised I have 2 mutual friends with twinklingelephant too! It's been really great sharing this journey with all you lovely ladies and now feels even nicer :) nothing to report really, just home feeling STARVING waiting to go out for dinner. Really have to get more organised with grocery shopping! Have just stuffed my face with grapes and endy bits of toast!
Still confused about which support pillow to buy. Those full body ones look comfy but what about when you want to roll over? Have to buy a proper one soon, need a bit of sleeptime support!!

frankienoodles · 30/01/2013 18:18

Thanks everyone! after a further 3 nights of crappy sleep I've caved and ordered a huge u shaped body pillow, not very portable or husband friendly but with my increasing tiredness I'm feeling less worried about his share of the bed! now all I need is to not have to pee round the clock and I might stand a chance of catching 40 winks!

starting to feel slow and properly pregnant now, feeling short changed on my "glowey" 2nd trimester, went to walk the dog today and sloshing through the mud up hills felt like the trenches of ww1! then I bust my lower back lifting my horrible muddy collie into the bath. obviously can't keep up at the moment.
