Anyone know what's covered in the 16 week appointment? Mainly weighing and heartbeat?

flyingsprocket · 11/01/2013 09:13

Good luck grannyapple mine's not until 1730- so long to wait! A friend of mine broke the news yesterday that she's due in July, I don't want to steal her thunder but hope everything goes well today so I can tell people in a few days.

SlouchingPanda · 11/01/2013 09:32

Hello hello!

16 week MW appointment mainly involves checking blood and urine, possibly weighing, and talking about results of booking bloods if needed. Listening to the baby's heart with doppler is no longer on the NICE guideline for 16 weeks, but your midwife might do it (if you beg).

I told work this week which went really well. They were so nice I wanted to cry! although that is not an infrequent occurrence these days. I'm really not sure when I should plan to start maternity leave. My job is stressful, involving being on my feet for 12h shifts, nights and weekends and has a 50min commute each way. But I love it and really want to work for as long as I can... it's a tricky one.

Still no sign of a bump yet, although a little 'thick' around the middle and in my 'fat trousers' - could quite easily pass it off as post-Christmas bulge!!

SlouchingPanda · 11/01/2013 09:34

PS: Good luck to today's scanees!

photographerlady · 11/01/2013 09:57

Thanks Panda :)

JessicaMLH · 11/01/2013 10:46

Good luck to everyone having scans today!

BB01 · 11/01/2013 10:53

Arkady, I have everything crossed that you'll be not far behind us :-)

Supershiv1, h2b has advised me to do exactly the same thing and yes, I can confirm, it really does help!!! Someone could probably publish a book on the number of tips my OH has regarding toilet habits!!

TotallyEggFlipped · 11/01/2013 11:39

Does anyone else's belly seem ridiculously big, or is it just me? I know I have a bit of a poo baby in there too, but I definitely look much more pregnant than I am and I can only wear my bigger clothes. I'm hiding under baggy jumpers.

I found out one of my old friends is also expecting a baby in July. She's due 2 weeks before me. Unfortunately she lives in NI now and I'm in Devon, so we won't get to hang out with our babies.

TotallyEggFlipped · 11/01/2013 11:40

I'll definitely be giving the 'rock and plop' a go. Genius.

specialknickers · 11/01/2013 12:46

Anyone else feeling a bit whale like? I braved the scales this morning and I've gained 4lbs.... That's not baby is it? That's Quality Street.

Aggghghhhhhhhhh

MightBeMad · 11/01/2013 12:49

Totally I am massive too!! Or I was until my digestive processes suddenly speeded up a couple of days ago and then 'bump' magically disappeared Wink

I'm so bloated by the end of the day though. And I'm now in mat clothes. Given up on my regular trousers especially. So much more comfy.

Haven't told work yet but I'm taking comfort from those who have. Maybe next week as I got my unchallenged blood results back yesterday and all good so now gradually sharing the news!

specialknickers · 11/01/2013 12:49

Egg flipped I hear ya. I am massive and in maternity jeans / leggings already. Blush

dinkystinky · 11/01/2013 13:27

Hmm typed big post then MN went offline and lost it!

In short it said, Arkady - am glad your loved ones are looking after you so well. Good luck for scanees today - and anyone telling work. And I too am enormous - I seriously look around 5 months pregnant. Have the day off today as our nanny is off and did the school run and all the mums there clocked it immediately. Am currently running the second load of maternity wear washing as even my fat trousers dont fit now. Ho hum.

Just had to undo my skirt at my desk. I think I'll give into maternity clothes very soon. Got a meeting this afternoon with my colleagues so going to break the news. Wish me luck!

Good luck for all of the scans today

Good luck Tash I tell my boss in an hour.

wifey6 · 11/01/2013 13:41

Good luck to all telling their bosses today.
I told mine the day after my 12 week scan...they were amazing & very supportive. Hope you all receive the same from your bosses.
A big YES to feeling massive! Been in maternity jeans for several weeks now as suffered a lot of bloating & now I have a very prominent bump so no hiding it Smile
Don't appear to of gained weight anywhere else yet, & don't weigh myself so I guess at my 16 week check up they will tell me how much I've gained so far. Eeekk

Hello ladies. Told my boss went well and will produce my letter in a few weeks. Hoping to start leave the last week of April. I have a lot of annual leave to use first so figured I can use the time to do more of my side business during the holiday time and it then will run into my mat leave in June.

CottonSock · 11/01/2013 17:52

Glad it went well photographerlady. Bit of a weight off my mind now I have told all those I feel I should tell in person (expect my department head as I found out he quit, so one conversation saved!)

My bump looks bigger in maternity wear I think. Trying to stretch out what I have of original wardrobe, with mat trousers for work. I know I will be sick of my new mat wear soon, but itching to wear it :)

My Next swimming cossie arrived and it's perfect fit. Wow, I'm finding it easier to buy mat clothes than normal clothes.

Have a good weekend folks, busy one for me.
