Jessica - my letters with both DCs have said no need for full bladder. Don't know if they use different type of scanner? But same for any scans I've had (12, 20 & 25 weeks last time, 12 weeks this time) and it's always been a really clear scan, so don't worry.

flyingsprocket · 10/01/2013 17:53

Thanks for the tips dinky I've been using a Pre natal pilates DVD which I love, the instructor is amazing & she's 34 weeks pregnant in it! Went for a long slow cycle ride, that & the fresh air seemed to lift my spirits.

I'd say choosing between Hindu & English names is harder than Irish & English. I'm Irish & love traditional Irish names but as the proud owner of a particularly difficultly spelled one, I think it may be cruel to bestow one upon my English child!

Good luck tomorrow telling your boss photographer, my work have known right from the beginning. I've had to change jobs because of being pregnant & I miss my regular job.

thinkingpositivethoughts · 10/01/2013 18:01

cottonsock I bought one from mamalicious it was also in the sale so a bargain. I think next normally do a decent range too although not sure how sporty they are. I'm off for my first non holiday swim in years on saturday. Hoping it will help with back ache which has been pretty bad this week and probably only set to get worse!

AmaDablam · 10/01/2013 18:43

Hello, great news on the scan orange and good luck telling work tomorrow photographer. I broke the news to all my colleagues today (boss already knew), proudly showing off photos from yesterday's scan. Everyone was really pleased - I don't think I've ever had so many hugs in one day - which was lovely Smile

Two not so good things to report - firstly MS is really bad again, just when I thought it was easing off - just thrown up for the second evening running Sad. It never totally went away, but is it normal for MS to diminish and then come back with a vengeance?

Second (and I apologise in advance for TMI) after having a number 2 this morning I wiped to find bright red blood all over the loo roll Shock. That was it though, nothing before and nothing since. I've had no cramping, staining, unusual discharge or anything today, plus have the reassurance of seeing the little one alive and well less than 24 hours previously, so I've more or less convinced myself the blood must have come from my bottom Blush. I've not been constipated but it was a little, erm, uncomfortable on exit shall we say so I think that must be it. Did give me a shock though. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Actually, CottonSock, good point. I don't know. Despite this being a flipping antenatal thread, that obvious requirement fell out of my brain entirely...

DifferentNow · 10/01/2013 19:32

Hi AmaDablam. I had the same thing in my last pregnancy. Sounds like hemorrhoids to me. You don't half get a fright when you see the blood though.

dinkystinky · 10/01/2013 19:32

Congrats on good scan Orange.

Ama - blood most likely from your bum. Up water and fruit if MS will let you and should make pools softer. Could be piles but you would know normally.

Ds1 was kicking back in his 12 week scan, arms behind head, was evicted at 42 weeks - and is still v laidback to this day. Ds2 was somersaulting away, was nearly 2 weeks early in a fast labour and is still a little scrappydoo. This one was somewhere in between.

Guavasforbreakfast · 10/01/2013 19:45

Ama mine seems to have gotten worse after a week of being a little better, think it's the return to work as I'm not as rested.

Um I've had your second issue - blood on tissue but from results of painful poo (sorry can't think how to make it sound less gross) - occasionally even before pregnancy, bright red and just on wiping. Apparently you can get small tears down there and they just heal on their own eventually, rarely cause a problem, which is why I never bothered to get it checked out. Confused I'd just see if it happens again, it's happened a couple times in my pregnancy so far and you can kind of tell on wiping where it's come from.

Sorry, definitely tmi.

AmaDablam · 10/01/2013 19:48

Thanks different and dinky. Been consulting Dr Google and piles does sound like the most likely culprit - noticed I'd been a bit itchy down there the last few days too so it all fits. Hopefully the bleeding will be a one off but if it does keep happening I'll give the GP or MW a ring for a bit of reassurance and suggestions for treatment.

GingerJulep · 10/01/2013 19:56

AmaDablam was alternating between too hard/soft somewhere around 6 weeks I think... but all normal now so you may stabilise

Dab strategically with paper next time to determine origin.

You can get something like a fissure where there is essentially a little cut (that takes a while to heal) at the edge of the opening. As others have said you want to be softish and also avoid straining - 'breath' them out, good practice apparently!

JessicaMLH · 10/01/2013 19:57

Citizen thanks, I feel a lot better knowing other people have had that too, looking forward to the scan instead of worrying now Smile

ama My morning sickness goes away for a few days then comes back horribly for a few days, then goes again getting further between the further along I get. Was the same in my last pregnancy, got worse up til 9 wks and then better from then. Hopefully yours won't come back too often and be gone soon!

AmaDablam · 10/01/2013 19:57

Thanks guavas - don't worry I started the with the TMI!!

Sorry to hear you're suffering with renewed MS too. Yeah, I did think return of it may be work related as I have been particularly stressed the last few days. Hopefully a rest at the weekend will get us back on track.

dinkystinky · 10/01/2013 20:13

Just googled supportive maternity swimwear and I reckon zoggs website is best for sporty supportive ones.

AmaDablam when I first moved in with DH I caught him rocking back and forth on the loo.
I burst out laughing and asked him what the hell he was doing. He said that it helps get the poo out if it's proving a bit difficult and you don't want to strain. I didn't believe him. Then one day I had the problem and tried it, and it only ruddy works.
DH must be some sort of bathroom Yoda!

CottonSock · 10/01/2013 20:47

Bleeding bum most likely to be small tear or piles... it's pretty common.. don't strain as if the tear gets bigger it can get painful. A Colo-rectal surgeon in the family so bum talk never TMI here lol. If painless more likely piles. If with diarrhoea then get it checked out.

Found a good swimming cossie at Next, should arrive tomorrow. thanks for suggestions. I swim a few times a week so probably worth the non-sale price.

Guavasforbreakfast · 10/01/2013 21:10

Ahahaha shiv that made me chuckle as mine seems to be a bit of a bathroom yoda recently too... He recently explained the reading on the loo thing men do, and it totally works. Stop thinking about it and hey presto... Wonder if that would work with labour...

dinkystinky · 10/01/2013 21:14

There is something to it Guava - don't get stressed out about contractions etc and go with the flow and let your body do its thing.

OP posts:
Supershiv1 · 10/01/2013 21:28

Yes I am hoping the bathroom Yoda rocking back and forth action will work for labour too!

Beginningofthejourney · 10/01/2013 21:31

Love your thinking Guava! Lets read our way through labour! (I can see that trying not to stress about contractions makes sense though!) love an equally optimistic first timer! Smile

On the subject of poo, I used to work with a constipation nurse the method described is call 'rock and plop' lol

14 weeks

flyingsprocket · 10/01/2013 21:47

lol beginning rock & plop Grin

Gingerpanther27 · 10/01/2013 21:59

Rock and plop lol..... Grin I have ibs so it was really bad in first trimester and now I'm sort of back to normal I take iPad in now save the boredom Blush

You laugh Beginning but I spent the first hour of labour with Ds2 doing just that!

OP posts:
Beginningofthejourney · 10/01/2013 22:13

I'm just hoping I have a high pain threshold so I can do just that, I have a lovely image of chilling out then a few pushes and all done! I'm in denial that the pain etc on one born every minute is going to happen to me Hmm positive mental attitude!

ArkadyRose · 10/01/2013 22:19

Really glad your scan went well, Orange! Right now it really is comforting to me to read about other people's scans doing well. What happened to me really is just down to bad luck - likely just faulty chromosomes; one of those things that just wasn't meant to be. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in mc before 12 weeks; that means I have a 3 in 4 chance of everything going right next time though, so really the odds are on my side when you think of it like that. And all you ladies with healthy pregnancies are proof of it too! I'll just be a bit behind you all when you're having your babies next July, is all. Smile

I'm being very well looked after - my OH is taking time off work to look after me and do the school runs with DD3, and my eldest two are looking after me as well. I've been overwhelmed with good wishes from friends & friends of friends as well. Mostly I've spent today tucked up in bed with codeine & a hot water bottle, but I was able to sit up with DD3 and read her a bedtime story. I'm doing OK, really. I wrote a big long LiveJournal post about what happened yesterday that was therapeutic.

I realised I ought to take my name off the list:
