and Happy New Year

Mizar · 01/01/2013 20:35

Just checking in - Happy New Year everyone!

OhGood - was really relieved to hear things are looking on the up.
Supershiv - hoping for good news for you too this week.

I had my scan on Monday - was really nervous beforehand, like waiting for exam results, but everything was all fine - such a relief! All arms and legs accounted for and wriggling so much the sonographer was moaning about it. It's bang on the measurement for my EDD so no change there - will stay due date buddies with Liz.

Fascinated by all this buggy talk but as this is the first for us, I think I will remain with my head firmly in the sand for a bit longer though!

As for the bump - not being the fittest person in the world, it's hard to tell what's bump due to no stomach muscles vs blubber from overdoing it at Christmas. Have bought a few jumpers in the size above for now, will see how long that ruse works...

All the best for those having scans soon!

Abzs · 01/01/2013 21:59

Hello, like marmitemad, finally feeling brave enough to wade in...

Pg with DC1 after surgery for endometriosis and cystectomy in the summer after two years ttc did the trick.

EDD is now 7th July, after being 30th June and 11th July. Date calculators don't deal well with irregular cycles, and DC appears to have had a growth spurt in the last two weeks and moved up a few days.

I've had 3 scans now, thanks to UTI pain, date confusion and growth of cysts. Going to have a few extra scans I think. Excited (and slightly freaked out) by being able to see DC kicking and stretching and rolling over at what feels like quite an early stage.

Happy New Year to you all!

Abzs

Welcome to Marmitemad and Abza. Congratulations to you both.

Shiv the lady you saw sounds lovely, glad it was positive news. Twinkle good luck for the scan on Thursday.

I'm definitely getting wider but no bump yet!

I went slightly mad the first time over pushchairs and dragged my poor DH all over London looking for one I'd seen at the baby show, only to go with a second hand one in the end. My sister has an ICandy and loves it but my DS wouldn't have lasted that long in it as he grew really quickly. I think we actually spent more time researching pushchairs than we did buying our car!

Starting to think my delayed MS is a bug rather than MS as DS was ill just before bedtime! I'm sure this has been asked recently but any idea how you can tell the difference? I feel fine until I eat anything but then I'm not so great. Oddly fine with sugary food though, very bizzare. Sorry for the long post but starting to worry.

orangebubbles · 01/01/2013 23:04

Happy new 'our babies will be born this year' year!!!

photographer Arkady we're scan triplets ... I'm on the 9th too!

will try and catch up properly soon, so much happening at the mo, I'm a bit behind.

BadMissM · 02/01/2013 00:22

Happy New Year everyone... have a scan this Friday, my second NHS one.

YikesHereWeGo · 02/01/2013 07:18

flying - your post made me chuckle about how clueless we new mums-to-be are! Grin To be honest, if I mentioned buggies to my DH he would just glare at me. He's said we can't even tell his parents about this baby even when I get to 12 weeks!! Totally in denial. Confused I might have a sneaky look on-line at some point though. Not til scans are all ok though.
twinkle and supershiv - good luck for your scans today.
Hello to marmite and abzs Smile
badmissm - are you having the NT test on NHS as well as via FMC? My DH is very sceptical about FMC and doesn't want me to rely on their results if they contradict NHS results. Confused
I have a mini-scan today at FMC before they take my bloods. Then booking in with mw this afternoon. Exciting! Then NHS scan next Thurs (10th).

photographerlady · 02/01/2013 07:26

Morning all. Had a huge shock slipping on clothes for work this morning. Seems I am widening around the middle :)

First day back to work since my holiday break on the 12th. Missing those few extra hours of sleep already and even though my train fare into London is more expensive it doesn't make it any more pleasant for a cat nap.

shelley72 · 02/01/2013 08:10

morning everyone. just checking back on the new thread (pt 3 already!). happy new year to you all and welcome to all the newbies!

supershiv i hope things go well at your scan, its sounding postive so thats good.

according to another website, my baby now weighs an ounce. which doesnt really explain where the 5lbs (yes 5 Shock) weight gain has come from. i am trying since new year to eat more sensibly, have rather used being pregnant over christmas as an excuse to eat a bit too much. i have a bump already, which is coming as a bit of a shock to me and i am finding it quite hard to adjust to that and feel a bit frumpy. need to start looking for nice flattering (cheap) clothes i think.

we finally told our DCs - DS shrieked and ran around the room in excitement and asks first thing every morning 'how is the baby doing mummy?'. DD was not that fussed, but shes only 2. just kept saying 'no baby' - think we may have problems with her further down the line but we will see. DS also let slip the news to MIL last night who was rather unimpressed by the thought of having another GC. and i have told my friend who has been having an awful time TTC and she was pleased so that was a relief. i still feel awful for her though.

am rather Envy of all you first time mums with long shopping lists - we had a quick look round the sales but there isnt much that this new baby will need and i LOVE baby shopping Sad.

need to phone MW today and make my 16wk appt. not sure which dates i should be going by now though as scan made my EDD 6 days earlier than the LMP date.

good luck to all of those with scans today, and hope those going back to work dont find it too tiring!!!

13+1 / 14+0 (depending on dates)

MrsMillions · 02/01/2013 08:18

Back to work for me today and thankfully feeling a lot better than I have for the last few days. Only a short day too as I have my scan this afternoon, so will be escaping about 2pm.

Had to buy some size-up jeans before Xmas just to get some style variety as the skinnies were the first to strain at the tummy. Hoping that will be it for a few weeks. Belly is definitely bigger but strangely if anything my weight has dropped, think small proper meals have helped offset the nausea-easing grazing in between. That and nearly 9 weeks off the booze (save my half glass of posh fizz on Monday night, was delicious!).

Welcome newbies.

dinkystinky · 02/01/2013 09:00

Welcome and congratulations Marmitemad and Abzs.

Marie - if you're feeling cramps/getting runny poos its probably a bug. Also if slight temperature/any aches or fever.

Shelley - wouldnt worry about a 5 lb gain. I've put on over 2kilos already. Ho hum. I'd go by the scan dates for the 16 week appt - I think that's what they do at the antenatal clinic normally - but ask your MW if unsure. Glad at least one of your DC took it well.

Yikes - we were all pretty clueless at one stage (and I'm still pretty clueless in many respects despite having 2 DC already). Its going to be a case of trial and error to find out what works for you and your family.

So pleased to hear of the good recent scans and good luck to all those having scans this week.

OP posts:
shelley72 · 02/01/2013 09:10

i know 5lbs/2kg is going to be nothing by july but i was shocked as not bothered with scales since booking! on the hunt now for some clothes that fit! i am hoping that DD will come round by july - she has always been a mummys girl but has started favouring daddy lately Envy. still that may not be a bad thing.

and so glad im not the only one with 2DCs that still feels clueless sometimes. its v much a case of trial and error in our house!

MightBeMad · 02/01/2013 09:30

Happy new year all!!

Still intermittently bleeding here (that's about 3 weeks now, more possibly). Still hoping everything's fine. Midwife said wait until my 12 week scan so that's what I'm doing. I figure more scans won't actually change the outcome so nothing lost. Scan is next Monday 7th!!

Not quite in my mat clothes yet but definitely in my 'fat' jeans! Think when I back to work next week I may be forced to dig out my maternity work trousers Smile

Nausea still ever present but I'm hoping it won't be long now...

11+1 ish

MightBeMad · 02/01/2013 09:32

Ps for those with events coming up, last time I never actually bought a maternity dress, just empire line drapey normal dresses (think Grecian maxi dress style). Even when I was bridesmaid at 39 weeks (and I was huge!!). Might be worth a thought x

wifey6 · 02/01/2013 10:30

Good luck to everyone with scans today/this week!
On the subject of prams/buggies.. My DS will be 3 when the baby arrives & although he is great at walking..I was wondering if one of those buggy boards would be worth getting? I don't drive yet..so we do quite a bit of walking. Does anyone have one/buying one that could recommend them?

MightBeMad · 02/01/2013 10:34

No knowledge of buggy boards but may investigate them too. I think we're going to need a double buggy though (dd will be 22/23 months). Any recommendations for a good all round double?

BadMissM · 02/01/2013 11:17

yikes Yes, am having the NHS Nuchal as well as the FMC one. TBH, I would trust the FMC more than the NHS one. I had my initial scan and Harmony Test on Monday, and they were much more thorough and professional than the NHS. Also it was a doctor both doing and interpreting the scan.

I have an NHS scan this Friday....

shelley72 I am having to buy evrything from scratch..DD is 4, and was born in France, so anything I did have got left behind when we made expensive move home...

mightbemad When pregnant with DD just wore lots of stretchy cotton lycra stuff and empire-line dresses. Only really bought leggings, tights and bras

I suppose am a bit more nervous than average as I am 45 with an appalling pg history..so am being a little paranoid, but just want to cover everything...

dinkystinky · 02/01/2013 11:19

Yikes - every scan at the FMC is done by a very well qualified dr - often a consultant.

Wifey - we had a buggy board for DS1 when DS2 was small. He was often on his scooter but if tired would hop on the board. Was a life saver at times. Buggy board max I think.

Thank you dinky...I'll look online. Smile

YikesHereWeGo · 02/01/2013 14:21

Eek, exciting scan results. There's definitely a bouncing baby in there Grin!!
Dates totally wrong - EDD now 22 July Confused so will be 12 weeks on Monday. Have booked in for nuchal with FMC on Monday Smile
FMC was sooooo posh, it's more like a swanky boutique hotel than a hospital!
11w2d!

MightBeMad · 02/01/2013 14:50

Congratulations yikes! I'm another fmc fan here. Awesome isn't it? And amazing that all the profits go into fetal medicine research.

CottonSock · 02/01/2013 15:02

Back to work... 3 changes of trousers this morning and it was obvious to people I think. Got some looks and my friends noticed before I told her. Went to mothercare at lunch for emergency clothes shop. Got a meeting next wEek so need stuff to look good. Nothing I got was in sale though! Should have hit shops in the rainy holidays.

mightbe I was supposed to be a bridesmaid at 36 weeks and have just told her I can't do it. Was stressing me too much. She did pick a maxi dress in case. Maybe I was too hasty. Feel bad for her and was looking forward to it. Boo

MightBeMad · 02/01/2013 15:20

Oh cotton that's a shame but no point spending the next 4 months worry about it. I was lucky in that the bride was very relaxed, happy for me to be there or not, if I found I couldn't make it at the last minute, and had all the bridesmaids chose their own dresses. Would your friend be similarly relaxed?

OhGood · 02/01/2013 15:24

yikes congrats and shiv good luck for tomorrow.

Thinkingof4 · 02/01/2013 15:59

Happy New Year everyone! And welcome marmite and abzs
I'm still squeezing into my 'fat' jeans but wearing dresses at every opportunity as much comfier.
We have a bugaboo chameleon which has been in near daily use for almost 6 years now, it has excellent buggy board which will probably be used again when this one arrives.
We do have an excellent double buggy, the mountain buggy duet which is a side by side but only as wide as a normal single! Sounds impossible but it's narrower than my sisters phil and teds. I might use it for a short time when baby arrives but ds3 will be 2 by then and he's a great walker already so I'd be using it more for containment than necessity iyswim! Might just use bugaboo plus sling though. I have a moby sling which I find really comfy until baby is about 6months. We also have a macapac babycarrier but that's not suitable till baby is a bit bigger. Slings are great for offroad, as are both of my buggies esp the mountain buggy duet. It really is an awesome buggy, there will be some 2nd hand by now, it was just new when we got ours so we had to pay full price, but was by far best thin available at the time for what we needed.

14 weeks today!
