Thanks, C&S - I think it probably would help to talk about it, but I just can't bear the thought of people getting excited for me then having tell them if I MC. Only 2 weeks now.

Hope you aren't getting cabin fever being stuck inside... at the moment I would love not to have to go to work, as I'm finding the cold, dark mornings a struggle, but I bet it's no fun if you're ill. Hope you're back on form soon.

Welcome, Larty and congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm not usually so whingy, honest. Just having a bad morning!

Quinandthem · 13/12/2012 13:19

Afternoon,

Congrats Larty, Penguin & Nob and cotton & dinky for your scans - must be a relief.

I finally had my booking appointment today at 11+5 as the Drs lost the referral to the clinic... Anyway all went smoothly and only took an hour - hopefully i will stay 'low risk' although my BMI is getting a bit high since i haven't done any exercise in the last 12 weeks as i didn't want to bounce it out (had a MC last time @ 8wks and whilst in my head i know that swimming & zumba had nothing to do with it - i am being a bit anal this time round).

So exercise starting up again in Jan (with all the other resolutions - the pool is never as busy as in the NEw Year).

MW asked how i was feeling and i said really well - too well in fact as i have very few symptopms, no MS (only 2-3 times i though a bit off but only for a minute), tender boobs but no pain or bleeding which is reasuring.

Have my scan booked in for Tuesday morning (12+3) and cant wait to make sure that something is actually in there!!! and then we can offically tell people at Christmas.

dinkystinky · 13/12/2012 14:22

Welcome to the thread Larty! Thanks for the congrats Quin - was indeed a relief. Sympathies on the referral getting lost - exactly the same thing happened with me with DS2. Hope time flies till your scan on Tuesday.

Quinandthem · 13/12/2012 16:35

A question for those that have had scans before

I was told today that i would need a full bladder for the scan on tuesday morning. My appointment is at 8.30am and i will definately have a pee when i wake up - so my question is How long does it take for a drink to reach your bladder and how much should you drink to fill it up with out bursting (for a pee)?

I usually pee alot during the day anyway as i have a 1.5 lt bottle of water on my desk that i get through as well as my de-caff coffees.

Any advise?

dinkystinky · 13/12/2012 16:40

My scan was at 10 today Quinn - I had a pee first thing, then a cup of peppermint tea and nothing else to drink - and the image was still super easy to find. So I wouldnt worry too much. Just have a cup of tea/drink of water pre-scan and you'll be fine. I got told off with DS1's scan for having too full a bladder - I was dying for the loo the whole time!

Badgerwife · 13/12/2012 16:46

Hi all,

I am belatedly joining this thread!!! I'm due on 1st July. This pregnancy, like the first one, is the worst kept secret in history because I am completely rubbish at pretending to be OK when I feel sick as a horse. Still the MS is nowhere near as bad as it was last time when I was signed off by the doctor, stayed in bed for a month and lost half a stone. This time I'm even able to cook dinner!! Just as well, with DD1, 16 months old, being an active still breastfeeding little madam.

Got my scan next Tuesday, I'll be 12 weeks exactly, and on we go!

QuinandThem I would just drink as much as you can stomach after your pee and then just sip regularly until you get to your scan time. I doubt you'll need to drink a litre

SundaySunshine · 13/12/2012 16:54

Hi all,
One very happy and relieved Ms Sunshine here. Scan fine, one wriggling jumping bean with little heartbeat all present and correct. OMG the relief is enormous! Xmas Grin

Glad to hear dinky and cotton also had good scans Grin

Quin I had my scan at ten this morning and drank a glass of water, cup of tea and a carton of squash 30 mins before (my previous attempts at holding down drinks were dashed by being sick everywhere), and it was fine. If anything I wish I wasn't so full up because scan lady really had a good poke, and I had to really concentrate not to wet myself! Blush

SundaySunshine · 13/12/2012 17:00

Ooh forgot to add, measured 12 +2 so technically I'm due in June, but I'm pretty sure I'll go over dates (was 41+6 with DD), so if you don't mind I'd like to stick around with you lovely ladies Smile

wifey6 · 13/12/2012 17:01

Smile Grin Yay for all the good scans! That's wonderful! Welcome newbies..July is going to be a massive baby boom! Smile
Ok..so posted about symptoms fading recently..well that only lasted a few days..they are back & different in a way. Have just ordered myself a Doppler. I know there are conflicting views on using them..so have bought it with that knowledge.
Have any of you told friends & family yet? I've had to tell my 3 Dsisters as we are going out Saturday & my belly, lack of alcohol & scatty brain may be too obvious to hide! Plus it's lovely to have that support. Smile
Hoping you lovelies are doing well.

10+3

SundaySunshine · 13/12/2012 17:02

Hi badger congratulations and welcome to the club Smile

Thinkingof4 · 13/12/2012 17:10

dinky you've got me worried now- my scan is tomorrow and we have same due date. If my little bean is too small to do nuchal measurements I'll be kicking myself as I basically had to tell my work in order to get time off work and I really wanted to keep it quiet a bit longer. Well I didn't exactly tell them bit they know I'm going for a appt that has to happen within fairly short timescale and they will definitely work it out! I'm sure they were all clocking my little round belly at work yesterday!
Ach well, main thing would be little bean being ok. My anxiety levels are rising and I've been on the brink of tears today thinking about it Hmm I'm such a daftie!
Lovely to hear about lots of people having good scans though, long may they continue

Thinkingof4 · 13/12/2012 17:11

Ps wifey good to hear your symptoms are back!

SundaySunshine · 13/12/2012 17:12

Hi wifey
I told mum, dad, best friend and manager at 9 weeks. DH family still in the dark but we're waiting to tell them face to face. I was pregnant earlier this year and didn't tell anyone, but then I had a miscarriage and had to tell all of the above anyway, which was horrible. My family were a bit upset that they were only told after the fact and weren't there to support me, which in hindsight I really needed. Having said that I'm not going to tell 'the world' until I get an obvious bump. I guess you just have to do whatever you feel is right for you.

Persuasion · 13/12/2012 17:14

Congratulations to all those with good scans! I am looking forward to, and dreading, mine in equal measure, like someone upthread I'm also paranoid something has gone wrong.

Talking of baby boom, I read and article in the standard yesterday saying there's a big increase in expected births from Febuary onwards, apparently 9 months after 50 sahdes of grey was released! So fess up girls, how many of you are having grey babies???

DH has work xmas do tonight, so will be late home. So my big dilemma is whether to nap when I get in, then do dinner, or dinner then nap (I want to be up when he gets home so I can collect from the station). It's a hard decision. I also have to decide what to have for dinner, but am strongly leaning towards hot buttered toast at the moment!

wifey6 · 13/12/2012 19:09

Sunday..sorry to hear of your previous loss. I told my family, a few friends & work when pregnant in Feb this year..but sadly also had to inform them when we had a MMC in April Sad was glad for their support.
Haven't told work or anyone outside of family yet. Scan in 10 days.
thinking..yes I'm very pleased they are back. Smile
persuasion.. Must admit I've never read a 50 shades book.

ArkadyRose · 13/12/2012 19:12

wifey You're not the only one - I have no desire to read something that's basically Twilight fanfic with the names changed. Friends who have read it tell me it's an appalling example of how not to do BDSM/kink, which given it's origin isn't exactly surprising. The story was notorious in fanfic circles before the author started changing names & trying to get it published.

I can't stand the original Twilight rubbish; I certainly am not about to waste my time on third-rate fanfic of it! I really don't think you're missing anything.

wifey6 · 13/12/2012 19:19

Arkady...glad I'm not the only one. My DSis tries to push 50 shades & Twilight on me on a weekly basis. Angry

twirliedobbit · 13/12/2012 19:25

I've never read 50 shades either, well actually I lie, I read about 2chapters and just couldn't carry on. I hate predictable chick lit at the best of times- even more so when it's as poorly written as 50 shades!

I have told both sets of families our closest friends and most of my work friends have guessed, they just know me too well and all of those people knew about my Mmc which was in September.

Don't worry about lack of symptoms, This will be my 5th pregnancy, and they have all felt the same...all with no sickness. My first pregnancy, I didn't even know until 11 ish weeks!

twirliedobbit · 13/12/2012 19:26

Oh and for those who are a little blocked try swapping to multi seed bread (I have a seeded bagel every morning and keeps me regular-ish!)

esme80 · 13/12/2012 19:56

Persuasion I am also excited yet scared about scan, christmas eve feels sooo far away. Dont have any reason to think anythings wrong, but still worry about mmc and only finding out at scan.

My ms got a lot better last week, and now seems to have come back but mostly in the evenings. More manageable but still getting fed up with nausea!

Oh and Twirlie Im with you, read about 20 pages of 50 shades and couldnt manage any more!

We have told dhs family as it became obvious when I was poorly. Havent told my parents waiting for christmas when they come over as want to tell them in person. Will tell friends after scan.

AmaDablam · 13/12/2012 20:08

Great news on people who have had positive scans today Xmas Smile

Persuasion my DH is at his work do tonight too. I feel really mean now as I've told mine he'll have to walk back from the station. Normally I'd pick him up but it'll be around midnight when, these days, I've usually been fast asleep for 2-3 hours and I'd worry about crashing the car in my half asleep state at that time of night!

Oh and I'm definitely not having a "Grey" baby either - not that I'm a prude or anything, but nothing I have heard about those books has made me want to read them I'm afraid!

In terms of telling people, we have told our parents, sisters and a select few of our close friends. All people we know would support us if anything bad happened and where it would be difficult to keep a secret due to the whole not drinking thing, especially over the festive period. Thinking I may tell my boss next week, especially as I will hopefully have my scan date by then and it would be nice to officially have the time off, rather than supposedly working at home and then skiving, like I did for my MW appt!

Aargh why are there so many food programmes on TV! They either make me have massive cravings for unhealthy stuff (carbs and sweet things) or want to throw up (meat)! AND all the sentimental ads that are on in between make me all weepy! Think it's time to give up and get an early night....

8+4

Calmisthemantra · 13/12/2012 20:11

Hello all and sorry to those that have had to leave. Wishing you all sticky vibes in the future

slouch hi neighbourGrin I had my dd at RBH but was quite an odd labour. She was back to back and I laboured strangely. Hard and fast. My waters went, then contractions jumped straight in at every 3 mins but only lasted 30-45secs. The pain never increased but just seemed full blown the whole time. They didn't believe I was in labour (only 1cm) at RBH and basically shut me away in a glorified broom cupboard as I refused to go home. Begged them to check me 3 hours later and I was 10cm!! It was all action stations thenSmile I have since met with a consultant midwife as it was still bothering me that I felt so isolated and talked through my concerns as I had a big fear of history repeating itself and I want them to LISTEN to me as I labour very quietly. My midwives said I wasn't making enough noise to be in labourAngry Anyways new pregnancy new birth and all that.

Sorry bit if an epic post. I also have a constant fear about mmc Sad I think it's natural to be so worries. My DH is very good at calming me down and thinking rationally.

Tuc biscuits have been my saviour. Scoff a few before I get out if bed and they really sort me out. Lovely bland saltiness Smile

Take care July baby bus peeps

dinkystinky · 13/12/2012 20:20

Welcome to the thread Badger.

I'm part of the never read 50 shades of grey club too. Also part of the club whose DH has xmas party tonight. DH was out boozing yesterday too and made the bedroom stink with his alcoholic fumes so much last night I had to wake him up and kick him out to the spare room. He's been given strict orders to go straight to the spare room tonight whenever he rolls in.

Thinkingabout4 - apparently "the bean" (so nicknamed as he was conceived in Chicago on our first kids free holiday since having DS1!) was 4 mm too short to do the nuchal test - but they could see it clearly. They said there was no point doing it as it might not be accurate. Who knows - maybe your baby is longer/more developed. I had no idea what my due date is as cycle was abit erratic before getting pregnant - so 4 July is the EDD given today at the scan going on baby length. So please dont worry - am sure your nuchal scan will be fine and all ok.

dinkystinky · 13/12/2012 20:21

P.s. so pleased you had a good scan Sunshine and please do stay with us! You can be another outlier for the thread babies!!

Thinkingof4 · 13/12/2012 21:27

My dh is out for his Christmas night out tonight too! Is planning to get last train home so hopefully won't be too late. I'll be in bed by then though, big day tomorrow.
Mine is also not a grey baby, I haven't read it either as I'd heard it was so badly written. Plus I never have time to read books anymore!
