gary - no, belfast zoo for me. Chester zoo christmas sounds lovely!

ruck - i know, i got to self refer to caseload midwives i saw last time before mmc but i still have to see gp on 20th dec to get official 'hospital referral' and i won't have booking in til around 11 weeks. And I'm only 4+4 now...so long wait!! Oh well at least there's plenty happening over xmas to keep our minds of it!

ScubaSarah · 06/12/2012 19:52

Hello, just found this thread and I'm afraid I'm too lazy to read the past 202 messages.... Congrats to us all!
I'm due Aug 1, got my BFP nearly 2 weeks ago and currently torn between feeling pleased my symptoms are only tiredness, backache and sore boobs (up 2 cup sizes) and wishing I felt worse to prove to me I'm REALLY up the duff! I can't wait for the first scan and am thinking of paying for 7.5 wk if I could get the MW to call me back!
Looking forward to sharing this amazing experience with you all x

sunflowerlady · 06/12/2012 21:46

Hi all.
Anyone else feeling totally freezing all the time? I'm 6 weeks today and for the past week I've been cold to the core!!!
Could everyone help me out with abbreviations please! I get DS,DD ect and have just figured out POAS, FRER and MC but no idea about the others! Please help so I can keep up!!! Lol
Thanks all!!

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/12/2012 22:36

sunflower - yep freezin!! Electric blanket on bed, having to keep it on all night. Fair enough it is cold but this is def a pg thing! Funny cos by the end we'll be a lot fatter and it'll be the height of summer so we'll all be roasted!!

RuckAndRoll · 07/12/2012 07:10

sunflower I have been freezing the last week or so but as had DH (husband) so I think it's just the fact we live in Scotland where it's pretty cold at the moment! Ok so abbreviations, there is a tab at the top of the page, just under the purple bar that has a link for abbreviations. But a few to keep you going:

DH/DD/DS/DM/DMiL etc - Dear/Darling Husband/Daughter/Son/Mother/Mother-in-Law etc

BFP - Big Fat Positive
BFN - Big Fat Negative
AF - Aunt Flo (Period)

Is it bad that I POAS three times yesterday? The first one a cheap internet one, so shocked by the BFP, did a slightly more expensive one at work, and DH wanted me to do a digital one that says the number of weeks as well. Slightly amazed they all still say pregnant this morning and it's not a dream!

BelissimaLol · 07/12/2012 07:20

I've been freezing too. Not sure if its pg related.
I have also poas quite a lot if I'm honest. Last one was wed and I got 3+ on digi so now I'm determined to stop.
I have a scan next Friday when hopefully ill be 6+5. I'm already scared!

DaveMccave · 07/12/2012 07:43

I have been hot and cold a lot, never consistent. My heating is constantly up and down.

I did my 9th test this morning Blush I went out and bought a boots 2 pack of digitals yesterday so I didn't have to show the boyfriend really faint cheapy dipstick lines. The display disappeared after an hour so I did the second just before he came round. Then I just did one of the cheap dipsticks this morning as I have several left I might as well get the reassurance it's getting darker as I have no symptoms yet. It was darker this morning finally Smile . So thank you to those who advised me hcg doubles every 2 days and not 1.

ScubaSarah · 07/12/2012 08:29

Congrats ladies!
I'm also feeling the cold so much more but then the night sweats are horrendous too. Blummin body can't make it's mind up!
I'm sat on the train on the way to work wrapped up in my pashmina like its a blankie!! Shock

Sugarkane · 07/12/2012 10:23

Im cold but also in Scotland, which doesnt help. Luckily I work from home so dont have to go out unless I really have to, just means I have to get dp to do the nursery run.

Christelle2207 · 07/12/2012 10:32

Good morning.

Well quite an interesting debate about the chemicals in decaf tea - have to admit it never occurred to me that there might be nasty chemicals at play. Anyway I am on sainsbury's own brand fairtrade decaf tea which tastes completely fine - even DH now drinks it. I have looked at the packet and no nasty chemicals mentioned (just says 100% tea) but will be more vigilant next time in the shop!

Have my mw appointment - I think. Seems to be organised by a "children's centre" rather than the hospital. Anyway going on the 28th December which suits me fine because I'm off work so don't need to make awkward excuses.

Im either hot or cold all of the time. Bizarre. I've also been feeling a bit light headed and faint, though better when I eat!

So I haven't really had much boob soreness but one of them has definitely got bigger!! Is this normal - I mean for one but not the other to enlarge. Presumably the other will catch up at some point otherwise I will be seriously lopsided.

Did yet another test yesterday - my 9th or so - and the test line is finally as dark as the control line, hurray!

Christmas do later, I've already said I'm being a lightweight but I expect several eyebrows to be raised. They can speculate all they like, I just hope they don't ask me any awkward questions directly.

x

BraveLilBear · 07/12/2012 10:34

Hello and welcome ScubaSarah and SunflowerLady and congrats!

I'm cold, but work in a cold office and it's freezing outside so not reading too much into it. I actually think my temperature is slightly higher than normal...

Got my booking-in appt thru for 3pm on Xmas Eve which is exciting. Still weighing up having a private reassurance scan at around 8 weeks. I'd feel so much more confident sharing the news at Christmas if I had seen a heartbeat!

Toughie. Anyone else thinking of getting one?

wavesandsmiles · 07/12/2012 10:38

Christelle - I have my xmas do later as well. I am going to arrive a bit late so hopefully people have had a few, and don't notive the lack of drinking!

Was really sad this morning - my jeans don't do up. I've been size 8 for years and years and didn't expect my boobs and belly to increase so early on. Utterly broke until 14th, when I am going to have to buy new bras, and potentially some warm tights so I can switch to skirt/tights/warm boots combos for now!

DH keeps teasing me - I am having a lot of dizzy/faint spells and have been passing out a fair bit too. His diagnosis is the sudden increase in the size of my boobs! In all seriousness though, any tips on coping with the fainting? Managed to pass out in the kitchen yesterday and am counting my lucky stars that I didn't hurt myself other than a bit of a bruise on my head...

BraveLilBear · 07/12/2012 10:43

Waves all that fainting seems unpleasant Sad I've been getting a bit light headed but nothing as dramatic as that.

Tips I've read elsewhere and from a friend who was pg recently and suffered with it, were to move around slowly, especially when standing up or leaning down. The quicker you move the higher the chance of getting faint.

Also, make sure you're drinking loads and loads of water. Fluids help with low blood pressure, literally adds volume to the blood, it's why they make you down a pint before giving blood.

If you're really struggling, might be worth talking to GP...

Pingu82 · 07/12/2012 11:42

Hello and big congrats to those with new BFPs!

Waves - I have been feeling dizzy too but haven't actually fainted. Hope your heads ok today?

My other symptoms are extreme tiredness but don't know if this is because I've got. Horrible cold and not sleeping properly, luckily at home in bed today rather than at work.

I read the discussion some of you were having about getting non-underwired bras. Is this just a comfort thing or is there a reason for avoiding underwiring in pg? Boobs are sore but haven't grown (yet!)

Had an early scan yesterday due to having some bleeding (i would have been 6+1) Everything was fine and even saw a teeny tiny heartbeat! All quite surreal Smile
Brave - before having scan yesterday I was also planning on paying for scan at 8 weeks, partly because I just couldn't wait til 12 to know if everything was ok and also because we wanted to tell family at Xmas and I wanted to have some reassurance before doing that. I'd still like to as know risk of mc really reduces if everything ok at 8wks but oh thinks it's a bit ott now we've had a scan. have you decided what to do yet?

RuckAndRoll · 07/12/2012 11:46

All this fainting doesn't sound good. It's a specislit subject of mine on a normal day (been passing out fairly regularly since I was a child), move slowly, espcecially when standing up, bending down etc, plenty of water and food little and often to keep your sugar levels up.

I'm quite shocked at how quickly the symptoms have come on. Felt fine yesterday morning, a little bit off last night, and by now retching, queezy, light headed, really know something's going on now.

BraveLilBear · 07/12/2012 11:50

Great news on seeing the heartbeat Pingu sorry you had the worry of bleeding first though.

Need to discuss it with OH over the weekend. No idea how to approach it. Last time we had a row talked about it, he said that if I had the money then fine. He understood it would be a huge reassurance but wished I could just be positive anyway.

Thing is, I'm not flush as we just had to buy a new boiler and Xmas is coming etc. Believe it or not, I am being positive! But lots of cramps recently has got me wobbling. Have now stopped taking full prenatals in favour of folic acid only to see if that eases cramps (I think some have been constipation/wind etc from iron)... but still!

Christelle2207 · 07/12/2012 12:17

pingu brilliant news on heartbeat! My understanding is that you can't guarantee being able to pick it up this early (even if it is there) so extra good news.

bear yes am probably going to have a private scan around christmas. they cost about £99 around here. Can't decide if it should be just before or just after christmas though, just before and it could be good but obviously will ruin our christmas if bad. DH thinks I should just wait it out but is willing.

Never mind morning sickness I am getting evening sickness. Start the day ok and go rapidly downhill in the afternoons.

sunflowerlady · 07/12/2012 13:29

Same here Christelle. Start off fine then slowly decline as the day goes on. Would like to fast forward to End of Jan please!! Only prob then is that I will start having to think about next August, had a horrible labour with my first and had to jump overboard without a life jacket to make the decision for number two. Would love to discuss an elective c section but hear docs and midwives aren't really up for it :-(

Thanks for the abbreviations all!!!

At work now wishing was at home in bed!

LittleMissSnowShine · 07/12/2012 13:45

pingu - fab news about the heartbeat!! Underwiring in.bras bad for.milk ducts and soft tisdue in boobs that becomes more engorged with blood etc in.later pg. In early pg its mostly about comfort - bought a super comfy seam free one for a fiver in Sainsburys this morning lol

brave - i had a scan last time at 7+5 last time and everything seemed ok but unfortunately baby stopped developing a week later and mmc was picked up at 10+4. REALLY not trying to.be a gloom.merchant but all an early scan shows is if the baby is ok that particular day which is no guarantee that it will still.be ok tomorrow. Early scan made me assume everything was fine so.mmc was a terrible shock. Im sure that wont happen to you but if money is an issue (& working part time so.i can.look after DS im def in.the same boat) i probably wouldnt bother - there wont be.much to
see and it only gives you pretty limited reassurance. I'm saving my money for some new maternity clothes!!

waves - id really slimmed down for my wedding a few months before i.got.pg with ds and i remember feeling like that too! Not so thin this time lol in reassuring.news first few weels is just water retention and bloat, usually calms down again after that for about a month and then around 18 weeks (well for number one, earlier after that) you start to properly show and thats you!!

AmelieRose · 07/12/2012 16:35

Hi everyone! Just marking my place. I was on the July thread, but have been for an early scan today and turns out I'm less upduffed than I thought (5 1/2 weeks instead of 7 1/2), so will be due sometime at the beginning of August.

Can't work it out at all though, and have another scan on the 17th so will hold off adding myself to the stats until then.

Lovely to see so many of us here already. Let's keep thinking positive! Smile

wavesandsmiles · 07/12/2012 16:46

Hi Amelie - good luck for your scan on 17th Smile

I am now bracing myself for my work xmas do, and how exactly I am going to manage the whole not drinking thing (particularly as it is free drinks all night). Not because I want to drink, but because everyone else will be, and people are bound to ask why not. My very lame excuse is that I have to take the DCs swimming at 8.30 am Confused Hoping I can find something nice to wear that fits, now boobs are bigger and tummy bloated. Keeping my fx that the dizzyness/fainting stays away too.

Anyone have any nice plans for the weekend? Tomorrow I am very excited as SiL is looking after all the children for the afternoon so DH and I have a whole afternoon to ourselves. We are going to do no DIY at all, and just snuggle up to watch a couple of films in peace and quiet.

AmelieRose · 07/12/2012 17:11

Thanks waves. I sympathise with boobs and tummy growth. One of my friends from work today (who knows I'm preggers) said I was looking 'thick of waist' today. She then hastily backtracked when she saw my face, but then my other friend said 'no, I don't think you look thick in the waist, but your boobs look MASSIVE!' and stared at them for about five minutes.

They are usually pretty big, so they are getting massive. No need for shouty capitals-tone yet though! Wink

DaveMccave · 07/12/2012 17:20

Hi everyone. Gosh i don't know how you all keep track of who to address in each post.

As fore the early scans, pingu fantastic news about the heartbeat. snowshine I'm sorry for your loss last time. I have heard though, that usually when a heartbeat is detected your risk of miscarriage dramatically reducues. So If you've seen the heartbeat already, I wouldn't waste money on an 8 week one, as that is just trying to detect what you already have ifywim?

Good luck to those mock drinking on nights out tonight! We decided to drive and lose the money we'd already paid on coach tickets tonight, BF doesn't want to drink without me, and it's pointless us getting home so late on the last coach when we are up early and sober! And this gives us an excuse not to drink with the friends we meet with. Normally I would have a few drinks anyway if BF driving, perhaps I'll have a couple of orange juices and say they have vodka in?! I'm not sure how fun a sweaty crowded punk gig is going to be when sober!

I've found out today that I have access to an independent midwife service for free, funded by the NHS. It's a pilot scheme in my area. So one to one care all the way through, appointments whenever I want-evenings weekends at home or in their clinic, scans in a clinic and not hospital with no long waits, and they are pro home birth and challenging of the medical model, offer free hypnobirthing class and others too. So I'm very excited about that Smile Miles apart from the last time.

Can I ask when everyone's symptoms started? I'm very paranoid that I don't have any of the obvious ones yet. I'm 4 weeks today.

Chuckaluck · 07/12/2012 18:31

Hi all, I have just discovered this forum! I am 6 weeks tomorrow, due on 3 August. I am seeing midwife for first appt on 17 Dec. Feeling a bit nervous about it all as I don't have any symptoms really. Can feel stretching in my lower stomach, can't sort out my body temperature (but think that's just the weather!) and am very tired but no sickness, no increase in boob size so feeling a bit scared. Had absolutely no bleeding though so should I be worried?? Anyone else feel like thierry stomach is stretching? Also thinking of an early scan so we can tell people at Christmas but it's £90 near to us and we dont have that lying around! Xmas Smile

BelissimaLol · 07/12/2012 18:45

Had letter with booking app for 21st dec and scan on 22nd jan! Very exciting.
I agree on reassurance scans. I'm not sure I'd have one as I think it could give me false hope. Having said that I have a scan next Friday which will no doubt give me hope anyway!
If underwire bras feel comfortable is it ok to wear them at this point?
